I remember I was early-mid game France and I captured Cagliari. My main armies were busy fighting Portugal and later milan and Venice. Unfortunately, the moors began attacking Cagliari. As such I repelled them and began building up the garrison there. Later Sicily attacked me. The problem I have with them was they came with a DOOMSTACK of dismounted Norman knights and Muslim archers with Norman cav. And they did this every 5-10 turns landing one next to Cagliari. The only reason I survived was cheesing the ai while I fired catapults at their grouped up army. Then after I had a free army I began attacking Sicily. BUT THEN Spain attacks?? In total cagliari got besieged 27 times by 3 factions.
@@EthanVerstak It's an absolute flytrap and I usually don't even go for it anymore. The cost of defending it from EVERYONE is just not worth the mid income. (It also weirdly has a heretic problem) I only take it when all factions that covet it are dead and it can be converted to a city
@@MummyNapkin970my theory is that when ai has nothing to do, they’ll attack a “rebel settlement” the problem is that with island cities they are always considered as rebel and unless they see the army too big, they’ll be dead set on taking it. Well it’s my theory atleast. It might just be the ai being ai
@@EthanVerstak Yeah maybe. Also I think some AI factions are hard-coded to covet certain cities. Like Milan and Dijon, or Portugals weird obsession with Ireland and Wales
Livestreams return this Sunday at 15:00 BST where we continue the adventures of Pontus in Rome Total War! I hope you enjoyed this short form version of my series. Do let me know what you make of the format in the comments :)
I would LOVE more of the full campaigns edited together into videos like this!!! And now I know about the pacifist series so i can go back and watch it. Synergy at its best.
Thanks for the input! It takes a lot to put these together (especially years later) but it was fun and seeing as it's popular, I will likely do it for another series!
I enjoyed re watching the series to make notes for the video but it did take a fair while. Still, it has certainly been far more popular than most videos so I will likely try another video like this. Cheers for the input!
Recently I started similar Papal States campaign but with some extra twists. The main goal of my campaing is to roleplay as Santa Pope, keeping all and only Catholic factions alive by all means necessary. To make things extra spicy, I started playing the Vanilla Kingdoms mod which adds several new (mainly Catholic) factions. Having the map so overcrowded and the fact that many factions start with just one province, it is a real challenge to prevent your fellow Cristians from killing each other. Right now I am in the midst of Timurid invasion and preparing to sail to the new world. The border gore is out of this world since I don't cheat with removing the fog of war and it is hard to track who owns what. Theonly downside is that it is easy to run out of valid crusade targets.
I love this a review and look back by those who have already watched it, but I urge all of those who haven't to check it out. Such a fun, tongue-in-cheek journey of complete buffoonery. Can't wait to see Amy and Paula as well❤
Well in all honesty, I really enjoy the long term campains. Its always a treat watching them after a long day when I dont have time to play myself. Having several parts just adds to the proper campain feeling with all its hustles n obstacles and ofc, shenanigans :D
I agree in the sense that sometimes a campaign runs too far ahead of me. I'm currently still on episode 6 of the Teutonic Rebels campaign when this gem of a video dropped 😂
Just a guess, but I think the reason everyone was attacking you at the start...was the fact that you took control of one of the strategic Islands that most are probably programmed to go for as a war aim...😆 (Was that the case histoically too? I know it was for Sicily, but not sure about Sardinia?)
This run gave us an important lesson. Sometimes peace requires not handing the land you take over and defeating the enemy. Otherwise you're in a constant loop of aggression and ceasefire
You say Pacifism, but I kinda think you mean the other thing... And how dare you snipe Allied Generals? You said you liked Poland, a turn later you killed their heir, and you went after the English General. This is just not done, ser. Did you ever find out what Hungary did to get the Pope to call a Crusade on them?!? Why did you keep handing cities over? Wouldn't it have made sense to hold those in North Italy (at least) yourself? You just had to attack them again whenever whoever had them decided to betray you. This was absolute chaos. lol.
Hey TNH! Love your content, but I would like to make a request. Have you considered uploading the culmination of all your modding prowess that improves these base game/vanilla features (improved pikes, diplomacy, muskets, etc) onto ModDB or TWC? I'm fairly good at getting all this stuff done, but I have to redo it when i come back to MTW2 every couple months. Love your videos and keep up the good work man.
Basically yes! Though there are a few other quality of life tweaks to be able to launch crusades etc... I don't know that I ever made a pope guide video. I shall have to put one together!

Just by looking at Medieval 2 one would think that Cagliari is the most popular holiday destination in history
It is truly bonkers just how popular it is on this game!

I forgot just how insane the ending to this is! Great to relive it. :D
What a wacky campaign this was!
Absolutely silly!
Always a delight to watch your videos.

The edit is cool and I liked it but I like both versions. This seems to be a lot more work and got you more views if I am not mistaken.

Truly incredible run. Now you just need to mod the papal states into the Americas campaign and finish the crusade.
I was thinking about putting them into a DLC... We have to finish the job now! :D
Victory and glory!

What a peaceful pacifist campaign that was :P Great job man!

That could be a very fun way of returning to Empire!

Well no Alexiad in this timeline since that inquistor bloody canciled the woman who wrote it.

Can you do a video on vassals and their mechanics I’m trying to get as many as possible in my current campaign
Being excommunicated by both Christian nations and East roman empire, the papal state lost its influence before it even begin to have one
Is unlocking the Papal States as easy as editing descr_strat like you can for some of the other factions?

This is about as apcifist as the pope can be in fairness! 😂
That was fun
medium unit size? *retches*
The background music is awful, and I don't know why all the youtubers are picking that song.
What are you on about? 😅
