Absolutely ridiculous video. ROLEX doesn’t care about the grey market. They simply wanted to offer further bracelet options. Prices are unlikely to change dramatically because there is NO availability for either the batman or batgirl - look on Chrono 24 the prices for both are almost identical. Why would this change now given its impossible to get the current batgirl? Rolex makes the watches they want according to their own strategy. Their strategy is clearly to limit supply of SS models and push their brand further upmarket. They now only ‘reward’ large repeat customers with SS models going forward and this limited supply will result in continuing high prices for all SS models on the secondary market. Once again, this video is utter rubbish.

The value was not "killed". What company would want to "kill" the value of any of their products new or old? The reality is that both versions are still hard to obtain. I have a difficult time believing the market value is going to fall anywhere near an amount worth mentioning. Besides, remember the OG batman was the very first bicolor ceramic bezel made by rolex. What this means is that in 40 years it will be more sought after because it was the "original" regardless of its inferior movement to its successor.
This. Nailed it. It’s about supply. The buyers by far outweigh the supply. The collectors will always want the first. The original. Look at history. A first serial cermit goes for 40k, whilst the later ones 20k. People always want the original. And, as said, this is the bicolour ceramic bezel on a Rolex. They’ll want this watch for sure, if a 116 isn’t in your collection, get one. In ten years time you’ll thank me.
Rolex doesn't like the gray market? Oh please, Rolex loves every bit of it. That's why Rolex removed the requirement to place owners name on the new warranty cards!!! I really don’t like gray market but frankly speaking gray market is the reason why Rolex is so much popular...
Seriously!!! I’ve wanted a Yachtmaster 40 for so long and none of my Ad’s carry it, I checked the gray Market and you can’t get them for cheaper than 15.5-16.5......can’t justify paying that much even though it’s my favorite, never mind the Pepsi which is damn near 20k
Man said Rolex didn’t update the explorer ii because they didn’t make enough money in the last 2 years. That’s the worst explanation I’ve ever heard. 🤣
Love what Rolex did with their GMT batman and Pepsi update to the oyster bracket . Those grey market dealers were killing us with their unjust inflated ripoff prices. Your video is spot on great observation
@@glenoxman7904 Could be. On the other hand people are getting fed up with Rolex because of the “keep it scarce and impossible to get” attitude. Real luxury isn't feigned scarcity, it's actual scarcity and with quality and workmanship additionally attached to that said thing. Rolex is mass produced and not hand made at all. Yes they are great watches, but come on. If you spent like 20 or 30 thousand on watches before you got the 1 rolex you wanted, I'd say just buy a laurent ferrier or an FPJ and call it even 😂
@@Maarten_official_account other brands actually are more attractive imo. A. Lange and Sonne, patek, ap, grand seiko even, JLC, FPJ, laurent ferrier.. gronefeld like.. the amount some people spend to get the actual rolex they want is wasteful. I know they make nice stuff, and i enjoy a good rolex here and there... But jeez . It's disgusting to make fake scarcity .
Unless buying a Rolex becomes available without having to spend thousands of dollars at the AD’s or waiting for sometimes years, I don’t think the prices will take a hit because most of people who want a gmt simply can’t get one. Let’s not even talk about getting a Daytona. If Rolex was more available then most of the customers would get them from AD’s instead of going gray. I collect, the AD knows me and I still can’t get a new sub.
Furthermore, I think the price of the earlier Batman’s will actually go up since they look just like the new one and since you can’t get the new one from an AD, where do you think buyers will go to get it?
I always thought the gray prices on the Batman were ridiculous, but I don’t think Rolex was really trying to kill them with this option. Having a choice of bracelet for the GMT is nothing new, they have been doing it for years, before the introduction of ceramic.
I agree, I think they are starting to play with the grey market. Maybe they stopped the Daytona green dial and platinum being discontinued because people were openly holding onto them to make more money out of the Rolex brand! The only thing they need to do is produce more watches!!
I seriously do not think Rolex made this move to combat the grey market unless they plan to produce double the amount of GMTs due to the addtional variant in bracelet... If Rolex really wants to combat the grey market they should increase the production of steel sports models. Rolex's production is already number 1, well ahead of other swiss watch brands at 900k anually give or take, so its not easy to further increase production but they can decrease production of other models like the Cellini line, ladies/mid size OP/DJ, 2 tone DJs, precious metal pieces to churn out more steel sports. Even then there will still be a waitlist but it will not be as bad as the current situation and that may bring down the grey market prices by a few notches. Sure it will hurt profit but if they care about brand image over profits like you say its the way to go. Sadly I don't think Rolex is doing that, they added 2 tone SD43 a couple years back and launch 2 tone Explorer, new dials for 36mm DJs and full gold with full diamond for ladies this year...
You talk about the new one as if you can just go to an AD and buy it.. I don’t think any sports watch will ever lose “significant” value when new models are released simply because the secondary market is almost the only way most people can get a Rolex now, this is the new reality and the prices are crazy either way
If they wanna control the grey market and get control over the prices then they should pump up the production and start having watches available at the ADs for everyone.
If Rolex made 5 million Pepsi and everyone can buy one, would you buy it? The demand vs supply is why they hold so much value. If everyone can get one and if they have 10 Pepsi at the AD why would you want it?
@@robertmunoz3386 For me personally yes. I've been waiting for a ceramic Pepsi since the original 116710 LN release (2008.) The steel Pepsi was discontinued for a really long time, almost 11 years. It was a mind boggling decision even back then. It was a very much loved watch since the inception.
Covid is currently keeping the production levels low. They have to stop and clean all the machines after each shift for the next workers. They can't risk shutting down completely so theyve slowed everything down.
I disagree with your assessment as owner of 116710LN I am happy and do not want 126710LN. On TRF most original Batman owners plan to keep their watch not everyone wants to upgrade to latest Rolex model. DavidSW has not changed price of original Batman. Only 116710BLNR will have “Swiss Made” dial and for watch enthusiasts the details in dial are everything. The watch that hurt the flippers and grey market the most is the Polar Explorer II since most people thought it was being discontinued. Additionally no one knows what Rolex is thinking 💭 Two Tone Explorer I in 36mm is perfect example, which no one predicted.
That’s fair! Everyone that has the 116710 should enjoy it every bit as much as before! In fact more people would be able to enjoy the 116710 as they come down in price on the grey market! But I guess only time will tell whether the grey market prices are affected. I think they’ll come down as dealers find them gradually harder to sell as people come in want of the newer batman.
@@StandardTime you mean like it did with the stainless Daytona, pre cermic GMT, pre ceramic sub and hulk. Need I go on ? This has never happened nor will it . You are dreaming. None of these watches are hard to sell since the new versions came out. Your logic is backwards. The only thing to drive down grey market price is increase supply and that won’t happen any time soon.
I actually find it very interesting that they didn't do so! Perhaps they want more on-paper differences to the case design of the submariner. Also traditionally a diver is expected to be more beefy, that would be my guess.
It won’t have a huge impact on the value of the Batman.. as it’s still impossible to get any version of the Steel GMT.. all Rolex will do is make the same number of GMTs but now the numbers will be divided between the two bracelet options... so it might drop the price a bit but not kill the prices..
I think the price on this BLNR 126710 will go up some more as people would want this specially now that you can have both bracelet on this vs. the old 116710 unless your a collector but for most they will go with the new improved better version.
I have a quick question, do you think Rolex is going to phase out the batman/Pepsi on jubilee? Or do you think rolex is just going to produce both these versions of both these GMTs
I believe that both will be available. Rolex has just begun to rampantly add the jubilee to almost every watch in their lineup. Since the jubilee costs a little more, I'd assume it is only beneficial for their margins to do so.
@@wicked-witch-of-the-west That “one and out” is an illusion to justify the purchase. Rolex builds great watches. That don’t stop with your latest greatest acquisition. What’s the odds of Rolex NOT coming out with some watch in the future that isn’t a candidate for your next “one and out” purchase? You know you want it! - lol.
It's not logic.....Demand stays high, supply stays low. Its still extremely hard to get a GMT or Daytona at list price even though they continue the Batman. Its impossible to control the market as long as the demand stays this high. Nothing changed. Market prices are pretty stable of all Rolex models. Green dial Daytona: 70-80 k all day long on Chrono24. If you dont have an insane purchase history with ur AD its impossible to get this piece. So why should the price drop as long as there is demand and cheap money in the system??? The demand is there. Disconinuation would have been even crazier for the grey market prices.
I agree with this: I think Rolex could see the price of the old "Batman" becoming increasingly crazy, and they found a way to hit this. The older reference is still a great watch, of course. But it will be hard for grey-marketeers to hype it up into the stratosphere if there is a current production model which is essentially the same, but with an upgraded movement, longer power reserve, etc. It wouldn't surprise me very much if we see the "Hulk" making a comeback next year as well. BTW I have been told by my AD that (from 2022 onwards) those of us who have a ceramic GMT2 with a Jubilee bracelet will be able to order an Oyster bracelet to switch, if we want to. I understand that this is official word from the big R. They said they had contacted Rolex UK to inquire about bracelet switching, because many customers had been approaching them with this question.
Thanks! It would be really odd seeing the Hulk comeback but yeah that's definitely not out of the realm for Rolex at this point. It's great to hear that Rolex will swap bracelets on the GMT Master 2s. Since back in the day Rolex allowed dial swaps, this would definitely be a step in the right direction towards customer satisfaction. Frankly it's high time Rolex took care of their customers.

Well folks, nothing has changed, the grey market still controls everything and we can't buy anything good from an Authorized Dealer. Nobody is dropping their prices. Period. End of story.
I hope this is a move by rolex, to help us genuine watch enthusiasts, and fellow collectors. Maybe this will help out a lot, keep them greedy buggers guessing rolex, bravo 👏
2013-2018 Batman with oyster bracelet has no crown between Swiss and Made at 6 o’clock position 2018 onwards has a crown at 6 o’clock so if you have a 2018 onwards and has a crown with an oyster bracelet(not jubilee )it’s not the original and the oyster bracelet was a customer order.did you forget?
I unfortunately do not agree with your take on the reason why the batman and pepsi in being given an oyster bracelet. First off, none if these two watches fetches incredibly high prices in the grey market and as a matter fact they are not the most hyped Rolex watches out there. However, I do agree with your point on Rolex reducing R&D cost by being lazy and just put in more option for bracelet and uses inventory stock parts for sharing with as many watches as possible. As for Patek discontinuing the blue dial RO, see what they replace that with - another similar RO with green dial - so much for not wanting to be seen as a one watch brand. Trust me, all watch brands (including Rolex) ride on their hyped model hence they are able to justifiably increase their prices regularly without being seen as greedy.
That’s fair! Although regarding Patek, Thierry Stern said the new green dial 5711 will be the final edition, even more limited in numbers of production and essentially a goodbye to the 5711 series. Stern indicated that he didn’t like one watch getting too popular as well.
Rolex could take some control of the grey market by cutting back on production of Datejust's and making more Submariner's and Daytona's. You can walk into most AD and take your pick of Datejust 36.
Thanks! Being Rolex’s most complicated watch, the skydweller is awesome! I haven’t spent too much time looking into the skydweller market yet but from initial impressions alone, not everyone seems to want the jubilee and some prefer the oyster. Ofcourse if you’re getting a skydweller, the blue is the one two go for, then perhaps chocolate with the white being the least desirable model at the moment, going for around $20-22k.
They did not kill the value - there is a glut of them on the secondary market ... don’t pay the inflated prices and negotiate your best deal ... what I did to secure one 😁
Rolex loves the grey market, if they didn’t they would produce a lot more watches. Rolex is a charity that makes watches. They don’t care about fulfilling demands. They care about keeping their brand strong for years to come and you’re not going to be able to do that if you fulfilled demand. Exclusivity and scarcity is what makes things worth more and desired.
You have no clue about the control of the grey market. You really think oyster or jubilee offers will make a difference? It’s going to be harder to get now. This release by Rolex will not control the grey market. The brand is the brand, people who can’t get the professional models are the ones crying about the grey market. Rolex is luxury, people will buy.
What are you saying? Don’t mean to sound rude but they just added the oyster no need to make up theories here. Plus it was that overpriced compared to Pepsi or Daytona
Thanks for the video. Interesting insights!! Does that mean there is hope for me to get a GMT from the authorized dealer?? I have been waiting for monthsss :(
Thanks John, I try my best to apply my reasoning to understand some of the moves made by the company. Might be wrong in some cases but I guess there will at least be something learnt there.
The small crown on the 12 will be important for the 11 since it indicates the very first watch from Rolex with a bi color bezel... just look how the „inverted 6“ played out on the Daytona 🚀
Best time to buy a gen 1 batman. Looks exactly like the new 1 and has a proven movement which has been around for years and is now slightly cheaper on the grey market
I don't think Rolex cares as much about the gray market as you are suggesting. If they wanted to get rid of the gray market, they can just make more watches. Also, Rolex does not need to care about controlling the brand. They are in the unique position of being the standard, and it's pretty much unbreakable. An example is you can look at 100 different sports watches, and people will say "wow, that looks a lot like a Rolex". No one, ever, looks at a Rolex and says "wow, that looks a lot like . While that is true, and it will be true forever, the gray market is of no importance to them. For Patek however, they don't want one of their least expensive watches, that was made just to try and capture a market they were not in, to become what everyone thinks of when you think Patek, so they have a different issue.
Not only the Batman version. Recently my friend bought a deepsea Jason Cameron 126660... and I had the 116660. During the release of the 116660, Rolex make it sound like this would be the piece that is special , is big and it celebrates the deep dive. I manage to get hold of it and I feel proud wearing it knowing it is special and would not release any more. Rolex release it with a crown at the 6 o'clock and change of mechanism to 3235...I feel that my watch is no longer that special.
There were a lot of people scooping up the James Cameron under the pretext that Rolex would discontinue it. I wonder whether this will replay itself next time round Rolex releases a refreshment.
How to kill the hype of discontinued pieces while this hadhave boosted the hype of existing blro/blnr at the same time? The decision of Explorer 1 had made both 39mm and new 36mm hype in grey market. Essentially whatever they do will be a hype anyway, unless the supply being more than demand.
@@grandsicko8580 purely going on the assumption that he knows more than me, and what would he think 🤔 just for fun 🤩. I’m just an enthusiastic admirer of all watches and have no idea how Rolex work.
Quite honestly, “Rolex doesn’t like it when the grey market controls the brand” is utter nonsense. “People start disliking Rolex because of the grey market” what does this even mean?? The grey market is the market! The grey market shows demand for Rolex far outstrips supply and this is why the prices is high. If Rolex wanted to reduce prices in the grey market that’s would MAKE MORE WATCHES! This is the only way they will reduce the grey market prices. I can’t believe your publishing this trash.
Do you think 🤔 that with the current trend to make watches bigger, that the gmt 2 is slightly small at 40mm , or is it perfect 🤩. As I understand it still has the maxi case, with slightly slimmer lugs . I love the maxi case but my omega seamaster seems perfect at 42 mm . Thanks for the videos mate 👍🏻
Thanks! I think the Seamaster is pretty perfect as well. I'd reckon the GMT Master is good at 40mm because they will probably increase the lug to lug distance if they made it 42.
No doubt the Rolex bubble will burst, sooner or later. Guys who banked on the gold Daytona with the green dial being discontinued, buying them up for crazy prices, may be very sad when they try to recover their “investment.” Another solid video! Keep up the good work!
"kill the Grey market". You obviously can't understand supply and demand. Rolex is constantly driving more demand even though they're not trying to meet the demand. They not making more watches but they are making more customers and most of those people go Grey market cause they have no choice. The Grey market price is the real market price.
I totally agree with this and said on release day. It will also dilute the Pepsi demand as some will sway to oyster some to jubilee now.. or you could get either then buy the preferred bracelet after
I think this take is completely wrong. Because resellers only concern is to make a profit out of the hype of Rolex watches. Of course Rolex has every right to release a new watch. That means thinking that the Batman lost it's value is simply stupid. In the first place, you should buy a watch because you like it, not because of the resell value.
Actually. Grey market is important for any watch brand (in fact, any brand). If the items you produce sells for more used than new, it means it is desirable. Who actually wants their watch to worth less when they first bought it ?
That aspect is part of it but as of recent the grey market values have been increasingly damaging to Rolex's brand perception. I feel they value that to a large extent as well, considering how good they are at marketing.
The best watch I have ever owned is a Davosa Batman. Great silk feel great work of art. Now the Batman Rolex looks like the Rolex Batman. I tell people no don’t insult my watch. It’s a Davosa Batman
All Rolex watches are bad value. They’ve been overpriced for years. Obsessed watch collector’s and Rolex’s inability to meet demand (or internationally manufactured scarcity) have only made things worse. Great watches but I’m over all the crap that goes with it. I’d rather have another brand like Omega or Glashutte Original.
Who cares. If you’re someone who buys the watch because you love it and want to wear it, the value of the watch doesn’t matter because you’re not going to sell it. This just makes the watch easier to get for people who actually love the watch.
Value always matters, especially in this range of prices we’re talking about. Nobody wants to burn thousands of dollars, whether they plan on selling it or not, it must at least hold the value they’re paying for it since it’s selling much above retail.
It’s still a great watch worthy even of being a one watch collection. ignore the fluctuations and enjoy it. In the long run it still doesn’t lose value im sure. Unless for those that bought only for short term gains.... (u still gain a lot if you bought it at retail anyways tho)
I respectfully disagree. Anyone with basic economics knows market is determined by supply/demand. Trying to manipulate the market without the fundamentals of market force is futile. Rolex being in a luxury goods producer, must have highly qualified economists that understand market mechanism. Rolex being Rolex the brand equity is probably their ultimate consideration unlike other public-traded manufacturers that quarterly profit is not going to dominate the business decisions.
Some interesting points, however I can’t see the Original Batman going down significantly it might take a small bump but it will always remain as the first Batman. Like the first generation of anything it will always have its place in the market as the first. If anything, I can see the price of the new versions being worth less over the next 5-10 years than the original. Fundamentally, buy a watch you like, not because of its potential value.
Thanks! You could very well be right in your hypothesis too! It not going up in value would be great for actual watch enthusiasts. Would also help people actually wear their watches too!
I think Rolex not fully done for 2021..........however is not a good thing ..................sometime slow down and focus can help to stabilize the demand, price, etc.............to me current Rolex 2021 focus on unpopular models, focus on right size......Standardize their "baseline production".........I think Rolex is doing something for the market and start to listen and respect their Supporter.........However for sure, Rolex is making themself to the "Next Level" like Patek................................Just my thinking
Totally agree with you, also essentially Rolex is doing the same for the explorer2. Rolex don’t want flippers or feed the grey market with discontinued model and 50th special editions. Ideally Rolex want people to love the brand, own their watches and wear it. They don’t want it get out of hand, where the average person misses out. It is not fair when only the rich and/or well off people can become a VIP to get the sports model. People becomes greedy and sees the watches as an investment. Don’t get me wrong, I have 3 Rolex sports model and I do like it that I don’t lose money, but last 3 years the market gone insane. The AD is encouraging it and the grey market is milking it. About time Rolex do something about it, if is too out of people’s reach, people will just go to other brands. I bet when the current Kermit/Starbucks discontinued they will bring back the hulk with new movement and 70Hr power reserve to kill the grey market from the old hulk, for people to focus and concentrate on the new hulk.
Yeah the last three years have taken Rolex on such a tsunami like wave! Bringing the hulk back would be an insane move, not sure if they’d do that as that might actually hurt peoples interest in the selection they have since it would be over 10 years of the same thing. But I definitely want to see people, regardless of who they are, walking out of ADs with proper sports models on their wrists. Playing interview or “pick me” at a luxury store is just nonsense.
And your also wrong about the original Batman being less desired. It’s the original it will always be more desired it was the first watch to actually do a new color scheme. Most people would rather have an original Batman. The new Batman has an identity crisis is it a Batgirl or a Batman? The original is clear-cut, it’s a Batman. A Rolex collector would rather have the original Batman.
Rolex isn’t Patek and the Batman isn’t the face of Rolex. They Daytona is. They aren’t combating hype at all. Prices won’t budge they are still pretty much impossible to get. Why would Rolex want to combat hype ? That’s what sells the watch 🤷♂️
The GMT Masters are right there behind the Daytona. Controlled hype is great for a brand, however, a brand like Rolex is already the most ubiquitous face of watches worldwide. When the hype is no longer controlled, it could quickly turn into frustration and defame the brands reputation and customer satisfaction.
@@StandardTime I disagree. What happens when you want to give a Rolex as a gift? You would have someone else's name on your watch. Good luck with that - you will need it. To get any sort of gmt you will need to be a preferred supreme and a 36mm explorer will not qualify you as one!

This vid is pure poo talkin
Love what Rolex did with their GMT batman and Pepsi update to the oyster bracket . Those grey market dealers were killing us with their unjust inflated ripoff prices. Your video is spot on great observation
Lol sure champ. Now that it's 7 months later how are those values doing?
Rolex could also make them available so there wouldn’t be a grey market 😁
Demand could drop for them, other brands would then compete more for your money. Rolex success depends on a strong grey market in my opinion.
@@glenoxman7904 Could be. On the other hand people are getting fed up with Rolex because of the “keep it scarce and impossible to get” attitude. And with people I mean loyal clients like me who after 5 Rolex and 2 other luxury watches at the same AD would like to purchase a Pepsi or blue Sky Dweller but still get the “impossible sir”. They know I’m not a flipper but wear and enjoy my watches. All of a sudden some other brands are starting to look very attractive
@@Maarten_official_account it's not good or fair but it works for them. If you step back someone else will take your place.
@@glenoxman7904 it just shows how stupid that whole rolex impossible stuff mentality is. I'll gladly let some idiot purchase 5 rollies they don't want in order to get a daytona or something, if I'm not given what i wanna pay for them i will gladly go somewhere else.
I don’t think any sports watch will ever lose “significant” value when new models are released simply because the secondary market is almost the only way most people can get a Rolex now, this is the new reality and the prices are crazy either way
Is there a white gold version for batman ? If so which year did it release first ?
I think you are overthinking it. Nobody was buying the ugly batgirl, so they had to bring back the beautiful batman.
I agree but you still can not get any steel so it will keep its value where it currently is.
If they wanna control the grey market and get control over the prices then they should pump up the production and start having watches available at the ADs for everyone.
I seriously hope that’s their next step!
@@robertmunoz3386 exactly right. Remember when they couldn't even give the Daytona away? Plenty of supply, but no demand.
The only thing to drive down grey market price is increase supply and that won’t happen any time soon.
how did that work out for them
This video is a valuable lesson in why good education is so imperative for the future our young men!
I think it would’ve been a perfect time to increase the size of the GMT to 41mm. Why do it to the Submariner and not the GMT?
I actually find it very interesting that they didn't do so! Perhaps they want more on-paper differences to the case design of the submariner. Also traditionally a diver is expected to be more beefy, that would be my guess.
It won’t have a huge impact on the value of the Batman.. as it’s still impossible to get any version of the Steel GMT.. all Rolex will do is make the same number of GMTs but now the numbers will be divided between the two bracelet options... so it might drop the price a bit but not kill the prices..
Correct!
Agreed
Agree!
Thank you for the very informative video. Keep it up!
Thanks mate!
It's not a "Batgirl" Its a dressed up "Batman" Hence "Bruce Wayne"
That makes much more sense, don’t know why most call it the Batgirl though...
I think the price on this BLNR 126710 will go up some more as people would want this specially now that you can have both bracelet on this vs. the old 116710 unless your a collector but for most they will go with the new improved better version.
Yeah that’s possible but they’re already so super inflated at the moment. Perhaps just the older ones will keep coming down as they age.
I have a question for you. What waiting list have you put your name on next?
IMHO, if you've already got the BLNR. You could call it a once and done.
@@wicked-witch-of-the-west That “one and out” is an illusion to justify the purchase. Rolex builds great watches. That don’t stop with your latest greatest acquisition. @@webcityguymyclubb4032 I like it!
New 36mm explorer... bark and jacks wet dream 😹, awesome to see a video from you guys, it’s been ages since you guys uploaded, keep up the awesome work:)
Ahahah yes indeed! Thanks man, as usual your comment is much appreciated! More regular content from now for sure!
How does the new batman case compare to the other cases: old batman, jubilee "batgirl", old sub, new sub, as far as "maxi case" lugs.
I’ve heard the lugs are a smidge slimmer but would really need to see both of them side by side to make a comparison
what a nonsensical video? Where's your batman or any other rolex? do you just do reviews based on store demos?
@@StandardTime with limited edition will surely make the watch ever more hyped. Can't see the opposite reasoning to be honest.
Rolex could take some control of the grey market by cutting back on production of Datejust's and making more Submariner's and Daytona's.
You can walk into most AD and take your pick of Datejust 36.
Like Your analysis 👍 any thoughts on steel Rolex Skydweller?
Can you put the new oyster on the Batman jubilee?
Yep I believe you can. I’ve seen that some have done it online.
The 116710 value is going to skyrocket in a few years because of the movement.
Thanks for the video. Interesting insights!! Does that mean there is hope for me to get a GMT from the authorized dealer?? I have been waiting for monthsss :(
Thanks Peter :). There should always be hope but I just wouldn’t base any decisions on that possibility. Hopefully it works out in your favour!
In decades collectors will want the MK 1.
That’s most certainly true!
Holy Shit! Finally someone actually detailed out the truth about what’s going on with Rolex!
Thank you!!!
Thanks John, I try my best to apply my reasoning to understand some of the moves made by the company. Might be wrong in some cases but I guess there will at least be something learnt there.
You are spot on Brother, plus the gray market is driving prices through the roof, especially with the GMT Masters.
Thank you :)
The small crown on the 12 will be important for the 11 since it indicates the very first watch from Rolex with a bi color bezel... just look how the „inverted 6“ played out on the Daytona 🚀
Surely the high grey market prices ensure Rolex sell every single watch they make?
They do but Rolex has the largest watch market share anyhow so now their reputation is getting more important than sales volume.
Best time to buy a gen 1 batman. Looks exactly like the new 1 and has a proven movement which has been around for years and is now slightly cheaper on the grey market
Yeah it’s practically the same thing. Even quality wise. Just new movement and a crown on the dial.
Any idea how much is it for currently?

2020 was wild for most trying to design, zoom from home and create something big for 2021 release. I figure they decided to play it safe.
Going with your narrative, let’s talk about how Rolex just killed the White Gold Pepsi, with the oyster bracelet Pepsi. 🤣
Man that yellow dial rolex with creme white shirt is so on point!!
Thanks! The yellow is pretty striking isn’t it
How to kill the hype of discontinued pieces while this hadhave boosted the hype of existing blro/blnr at the same time? The decision of Explorer 1 had made both 39mm and new 36mm hype in grey market. Essentially whatever they do will be a hype anyway, unless the supply being more than demand.
None of this matters. If you buy any of these as retai, you wont loae.
That’s always a given! Talking purely about the grey market values because those are what I find to be wild.
Will Rolex make the gmt bigger like the submariner?
Seems unlikely since they didn’t do it this time round. They probably want some differences to the sub, since that’s a dive watch only.
With respect, how would a guy on UA-cam, know.
Rolex does not give a flying F about the gray market - as evidenced by the removal of the buyer’s name off the warranty card for one...
What you need to say for flippers......that’s what the flippers get. Screw them. By a watch to wear. Not for an investment.
No doubt the Rolex bubble will burst, sooner or later. Guys who banked on the gold Daytona with the green dial being discontinued, buying them up for crazy prices, may be very sad when they try to recover their “investment.” Another solid video! Keep up the good work!
I applaud Rolex for doing this. We need to kill the grey market back to price harmonise
It will also dilute the Pepsi demand as some will sway to oyster some to jubilee now.. or you could get either then buy the preferred bracelet after
Haha okay got half way through the video where you cover the Pepsi too...
I doubt that Rolex considered the grey market when reintroducing the oyster on these watches. Seriously doubt it.
I think you are quite confused. Maybe, befuddled is a more description.
My recommendation: Dummy up.
Rolex should stop using ADs. ADs hook up their grey market sellers and screw us over
I think they’re working towards that since they’re opening more boutiques.
There is so much nuisance in the watch world. Ty for your insightful perspective. I like your presentation
The best watch I have ever owned is a Davosa Batman. Great silk feel great work of art. Now the Batman Rolex looks like the Rolex Batman. I tell people no don’t insult my watch. It’s a Davosa Batman
That’s cool! Good that you know what you like 👍
You’re 100% correct. What’s interesting is, why they didn’t put the Platinum Pepsi on the Oyster Flex, to distinguish itself from the Steel.
Platinum Pepsi ? Did I miss this release ? 🤷♂️
@@leonshaw1008 did you?
All Rolex watches are bad value. They’ve been overpriced for years. Obsessed watch collector’s and Rolex’s inability to meet demand (or internationally manufactured scarcity) have only made things worse. Great watches but I’m over all the crap that goes with it. I’d rather have another brand like Omega or Glashutte Original.
Or they recognized that their customers wanted a choice when it came to braclets just like with bezel and dial colors.
I’m assuming Rolex likes that their watches value on the grey market are way higher....makes the brand more prestigious
Could be the case! But then there’s a point where there’s a larger number of people frustrated with the brand ready to walk away.
Rolex really did all the first generation batman owners dirty with the new batman on oyster bracelet 😂😂😂
They want everyone to know that their watches are to be worn I guess!
@@StandardTime lol! 🤣
It’s still a great watch worthy even of being a one watch collection. ignore the fluctuations and enjoy it. In the long run it still doesn’t lose value im sure. Unless for those that bought only for short term gains.... (u still gain a lot if you bought it at retail anyways tho)
It’s also funny that you’re speaking for Rolex and you know the reason behind what they do 😂😂
If Rolex really cared about the gray market, they would pump out more watches so many can buy them at retail.
They still need to be desirable and exclusive
I bet when the current Kermit/Starbucks discontinued they will bring back the hulk with new movement and 70Hr power reserve to kill the grey market from the old hulk, for people to focus
and concentrate on the new hulk.
If rolex actually did this to hit back at the grey market, then hats off to them.
Exactly! Rolex did this to screw the resellers. Totally get it.
"Grey Market"? You mean the back-channels that AD's are participating? Rolex could not care less about grey market...
in the boston area. the batman/girl that commands the highest price is the new oyster band $23,500. jubilee slightly less.
Rolex is slowly realizing that no one is profiting from lack of supply other than scalpers, grey marketers and replica makers.
I hope that’s the case! But them removing the names from the card was a step backwards...
@@StandardTime I disagree. What happens when you want to give a Rolex as a gift? You would have someone else's name on your watch. My company gives Rolex as rewards, would you then have a Rolex with someone else's name on it? We tend to jump on Rolex with our own personal views and thoughts of how they should run a company, but they are entitled to run it the way they would like. We can decide whether we like it or not.
You’re speaking from bias because you have a new Batman. In life when it comes to items anything that’s all original usually has more value in the long run. The original Batman will always be more valuable than the any later version.
Yes it’s getting stupid by the day. One of the cheapest Rolex(OP) now sells more than a Sea Dweller . The Oyster Perpetual 41 Tiffany Blue 124300 now sells for $14,000 where I’m from 🤦🏻♂️. I’m not paying a $5000 product for $14,000.....only stupid people does that
oh well, since this video, the price of the batman has gone up.. great prediction
I hope you're right... I so wish I cared about watches in the 90s and early millennium when you walk into an ad and buy a freaking sub
Ahaha even 5 years ago would’ve been a great start!
Are you serious dude? Rolex knows its grey market very well more than anybody.
That’s true! Exactly why they are intentional about their choices every year!
FFS it's not rocket science....this is supposed to be a premium watch...offer the customer a choice of strap at the AD.
They could’ve done that in 2019 or years before even. I believe it to be a deliberate move
I personally love what Rolex are doing. Killing flippers with less desirable watches and making more new room for new customers who want to try out modern classics.
I am waiting to meet a new Rolex AD and introduce myself as a genuine collector. And my first purchase will be a 36 explorer.
Also own two Omega’s which are awesome pieces.
Will probably buy a batman or a Pepsi as my second purchase. All will be retail only, if Rolex wants my money .
Omega + Rolex = ❤️
That’s cool. Enjoy the 36 explorer! Hopefully you secure the GMt Master as well!
Good luck with that - you will need it. To get any sort of gmt you will need to be a preferred supreme and a 36mm explorer will not qualify you as one!

Thanks. I prefer to wait then to feed a flipper who are despicable.
If you hadn’t figured it out Rolex doesn’t want your money. They want peoples money who will buy 10/15/20 Rolex not people who just want to buy one or two. They are trying to push those sorts over to Tudor
@@Watchlover371 if you haven’t figured it out, if Rolex wanted people to buy 10/15/20 watches, they would have never discontinued the 39 explorer which became a hit over the last 2 years.
What you are saying really contradicts what they did in their announcement.
I’m happy with the new release, I don’t care if they killed the value. Only the especulators are not happy. People complaint about Rolex but keep buying. Rolex know better and don’t make big changes so the product keep the value. If they had changed the explores too much It had been disappointing for the current owners. Still people complaint they didn’t do this or did that, still Rolex is Rolex the best watchmaker period
It’s very interesting for sure. Many are convinced that Rolex themselves feed the grey market, but then they’re also going against it. Sounds like a weird loop doesn’t it. Im all for getting watches out of the safes and onto wrists!
The value is whatver the watch owner considers. If you’re buying all your Rolex so on thre purpose they will always be worth double what the msrp is then you buying the watch for the wrong reasons especially a stainless steel Batman.
