I purchased the all black GMT to commemorate a professional achievement for myself. I got it slightly above retail and I was okay with it. Came like new in box with tags and everything. The biggest reason I love the watch so much is because my father was able to hold it and wear it just before he passed. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that. Hopefully my kids see it that way in the future.
Sold my all black GMT. Don’t miss it at all. Also sold my DJ. I’m dumping Rolex because I’ve reached the end of my Rolex tolerance. It’s very cathartic.
Same reason I stopped paying taxes. I was tired of their monopolistic position in the market. Enough is enough and I don’t miss it one bit. There’s plenty of other placed to spend my money.
@@Treetopflyer777 exactly ones you owned them the hype is gone. Also don’t see myself buying another Rolex. Bought really nice watches instead and love them!
I will have to say now owning both the new Sub date and the GMT Master 2 Black Black they are similar at a glance but each have their own characteristics when you wear them. At first I was not a fan of the pcl bracelet but now it is much more comfortable than the sub bracelet and I have a 7.5 inch wrist. The smaller clasp is ultimately much more comfortable in a full day wearing. My GMT melts on my wrist and ultimately I like wearing it more. I just needed to get over the scratch issue and realize that it does not matter. I am keeping my watches forever and passing them down to my children. I have the sickness of collecting and hunting for the next watch, but I got sucked into the investment and value BS. I hate putting any of my watches in the watch box. I wish I could wear them all. That is why I have them. My first somewhat luxury watch was a Tag Aquaracer Chrono I bought in 2004. I wore that watch everyday until around 2018 when I tried out an Apple Watch. I serviced it once at 8 years and It has been running great since. Once I purchased my Omega Seamaster in 2019 my son told me he always loved my Tag. I gave it to him and he wears it everyday, and has for the past 2 years. I since have purchased the Sub after a 1 year wait from my AD, an Explorer 2 black dial from my AD, and my Black Black GMT from David SW. I still want a Wimbledon Datejust with jubilee and smooth dial. (Sorry but the fluted bezel is for old people and I am only 50. Not old enough to wear that yet!! Also a Pepsi GMT on oyster bracelet. I think the GMT is a sports watch so should be on an oyster. My opinion but that is what makes it so fun! I plan to keep them all and wear them until they are passed down to my family. Very few things that men have that are relevant heirlooms, and watches are my obsession and passion! What other 200 year old technology is still alive and well today? Thanks Bruce, always enjoy your content!
Have said it for a while. The LN GMT is probably the best one and done watch out there. I own a Pepsi jubilee and a couple of subs but if I could only have one watch I would choose the LN GMT over a black sub.
Today, you can order a Jubilee or Oyster for thr GMT Master ii. If you could order a Jubilee bracelet for this GMT , it would look much more updated like the Pepsi, Batgirl or Sprite and look really good.
I've always liked the all black but have never seen one in person, while I doubt I'd be able to get my hands on it I'd love to see Tudor go at an interpretation of it one day.
Most people that own Rolex refuse to use it since they fear they might get robbed. Buy something you will actually wear often to make it worth it guys 😊
You’re 100% correct actually. I got rid of most of my Rolex for that very reason. I wear my omegas every day. ZERO concern. And I can actually get whatever one I want. Whenever I want.
Prices are starting creep up a bit again…go for it!!! Bruce hit the nail right on the head. My Pepsi on jubilee sits just a hair better on the wrist than my Kermit, but i love the all brushed oyster bracelet day to day. They are both extremely comfortable and accurate and long term they will all hold their value well.
Good observation! Face it, this is possibly Rolex's most masculine watch. It is more exclusive than the black Submariner while having a more sophisticated movement. The lack of contrasting colors lets it stand alone in symmetry compared to the other GMTs. It matches clothes better than the other GMTs.
Of the GMT Masters, this one is my favorite. That said, I don't really see myself buying another Rolex, I could surprise myself some day, but we both know my interests have slid in other directions. For me, the other GMTs are just a little too flashy, but this one, I do have to admit being tempted by it in the past!
I absolutely love the GMT Master II. I wear my Pepsi as much as I can. That is the watch that I will pass to my son one day. I still feel very tempted from time to time to get a Batman. My AD is excellent and this could be the perfect time to get one. Great video Bruce. Thanks.
This is all a matter of personal opinion and taste but I agree with Bruce here. The Pepsi will always be the GMT to have. It's an icon for a reason. I however do own the 116710LN and I will never sell it and believe it is more versatile than the BLRO. I look at the batman/batgirl and always think it looks too cartoony which is why I chose the LN over it. Once the Coke is reissued the BLNR will be even less popular and for some may even be more desirable that the Pepsi.
Sold my 2005 gmt coke bc I couldn’t get over the overpolished case. Made an ill informed purchase and didn’t want to refurbish the case. Crown was too small imo. Crown on newer gmts are a great size but the bezel action of the aluminum bezel gmts felt much nicer and ratcheted. Bezel action on the new gmt feels rather… cheap. Pros and cons on both old and new gmt. Still prefer an unpolished aluminum bezel gmt
This 116710LN happens to be my first Rolex and well be my last. I wear this watch everyday. An excellent mechanical time piece, and practical useful daily tool.
The 116710LN is truly is one of the most practical tool watches you’ll oblige for its intended use; 99% of subs will never be worn below 2m of water; 99% of Daytonas will never be used as a stopwatch; but you can bet that every GMT Master II is adjusted upon landing in a foreign land.
The real answer is to buy a 16710, that way you can have a black bezel with a red GMT hand. And you can also swap between bezel inserts on a daily basis so you can have a Pepsi or Coke or plain black whenever you feel like it. Takes about three minutes to swap the insert at home. Those watches were designed for easy insert swaps
I appreciate the outdoor shots, as I’ve loved and considered this model as a one watch collection. But seeing it in the true wild, I can’t help but believe it’s too dressy and scratch prone for serious activities-in particular ones that are better suited for your sub. Then again, maybe that’s why God created G-Shocks.
Not really, ADs in Europe raise prices for a Submariner date to 10.100 € form 9.700 €. So secondary market will rise too. And If I click for new 2021 - 2022 models in Europe on Chrono 24 prices did go up for about 500 € as well.
@@skyworks1621 asking for those prices may not equal selling at those prices. There's always been speculation that dealers are trading between themselves.
I've given up on ever owning a Rolex and moved on to other great watches. I was on the mythical "wait list" for almost two years. If I ever get the call I'll just have to refuse it because I've spent the money elsewhere on watches I can actually buy. Kind of hard to "build a relationship" when you can't even buy one. But as far as the GMT II goes, my favorite is the white gold meteorite which of course is out of my price range even if it was available.

does it use the 'maxi-case' that was on the last version sub?
The LN was released before Facebook even existed. If it was released today, it would be the top watch to get.

How does the case compare to a new Batgirl or Pepsi? The black GMT looks boxy (super maxi case)
They look pretty similar in person. The new case is slightly more tapered
It’s still selling for a minimum of $3-4k over retail. Down to earth would be at list imo.

Buy what you like! It's that easy. Do you want the GMT function? Will you use it? If not, buy a sub.
The used Rolex prices will continue to go down with the high interest rates and inflation
