Van Damme Movie Cyborg Is A Forgotten Masterpiece - Best Movie Ever

- The movie Cyborg was Jean Claude Van Damme's second leading role and is criminally underrated. Released in 1989, it's a mashup of Bladerunner, Mad Max, and Terminator only with awesome splits and spin kicks. This is a recap of the greatest and least appreciated JCVD roles.

“He stabs him in the brain, which is redundant because his mind was already blown”…perfection.
Yeah that dude that got stabbed is Ralf Moeller, a German bodybuilder and actor. His presence was one of my favorite aspects of the movie. Epic death!
HAhahahaha !! So funny !! this dude is a genius !!
I been laughing for 30 straight minutes from this wonderful line
So good.
Though I can't believe he missed the love scene nightmare where the villains are just randomly watching him being with his misses in bed
I saw this movie in a Dallas theater recently during a Trash Night Tuesday (TNT), where they show really bad movies the first Tuesday of the month. It's absolutely free and encourage (responsible) drinking. Needless to say, it was an absolute blast. People went ape shit during the splits scene. One of the best theater experiences yet
Sounds awesome. Wish we had that in my town.
I was just in Texas but didn’t make it to Dallas and that alone makes me wanna visit.
What theater ???
@@bennybeltran9913 Texas Theater in Oak Cliff on Jefferson. It's a pretty cool place
What I would give to see this on the big screen, genuinely one of my favourite movies
I’m glad there’s other people who appreciate this movie as much as I do.
I have to watch it at least 3-4 times per year haha
Growing up as a kid I thought this movie was sick as hell I still like it.
I forgot about Cyborg. That movie was the biz.
I like the dead I like the misery I like this world
This movie is so hard and good !
Who else watched this movie in 1990 on VHS when they were 10 years old!?…😁
Right here!!🎉🎉
We started the cult😂
oh hell yeah. depending on the time of the year i could have been 9 or 10 lol. what a treat LOL
the main villian tho; scared the hell outta me lol
Not me, I was 11 in 1990. I watched Blood Sport probably like 15 times.
Edit: Actually, I guess I was 10 for half the year. Oops.
Edit again: I think I probably watched it at least 25 times. But who's counting?
I saw this movie in theaters with my dad. I think he was expecting something a bit more light-hearted.
Dude, Cyborg is a jewel of my childhood. Fender was a perfect unknown psycho bad guy.
Cyborg and Bloodsport on VHS were my prized items
@@Paul-sl9zm and Conan the Barbarian 👍
@@grimmblade also James and that Thick Ol’ Peach. Childhood classics
oh man you said it
Yeah. I watched it many times. Funny review though.
I remember the movie as having very little dialogue. It was very unique and revolves around the tension and suspense. This was when action movies were like video games and the antagonist was a “final boss” type character.
"While I'm not saying Van Damme is Jesus.... I'm also not saying Van Damme's not Jesus" You have a point there. 😂😂
Best point ever made in my books 😂
@@Daya97228 😂😂
No one ever mentions the incredible soundtrack that sets the mood so perfectly, one of the best I ever heard.
They went absolutely wild on the end credits with the score.
“the most awesome thing you’ve ever seen in real life or on tv or in a dream” 😂
What about double impact??😂😂😂 man movies back then were the 💩
Literally my favorite part in the movie
"He stabs the guy in the brain, which is redundant, because his mind, was already blown"
I started cracking up! 🤣🤣🤣
true though as at the angle he thrusts down he pretty much stabs his own balls, certainly didn't reach the guy 1+ ft further down, but it's a JvCd movie, looking back on this it does look a little B-movie, though I guess it was being a straight to VHS, first movie I ever saw of his, still loved it though, most of his a worth watching but there is some bad ones though.
A moment of Silence for Albert Pyun who left us in 2022 at the age of 69........ Without him we would not have THIS Classic. 😢
Poor one out! Cyborg! looks and is cut amazing! Great Director! SPLIT HIGH 54EVA!
@XA-lf2pk the edits are not from him for the most part. You can actually find a full director cut version titled "Slinger" and is basically Pyun's full vision of the film as he intended it to be. It's very rough but totally watchable.
I love Cyborg. This is one of JCVD’s forgotten classics. Always overshadowed by Bloodsport. Cyborg is the shit
It's not the shit it's just shit
My Dad brought this home around 1992. This was a mind blow to watch as a kid. I remember being so scared of the pirates. But truthfully, it made me remember to be like Gibson, and fight back
This film is a god damn masterpiece. I had it on VHS as a kid, watched it every weekend.
poor VHS tapes, i ruined quite a few in the 80s and 90s 😀
Yep, I watched Cyborg on VHS until the cassette wore out
Cyborg is a masterpiece of brilliance, I love this movie.
"He stabs the guy in the brain, which was redundant because his mind was already blown." LOLLLL 🤣🤣🤣
Why isn't he writing scripts?! 🤣
This is no joke. Cyborg at the time just blew my mind and it holds up to this day. It is a classic for sure.
You forgot to mention the best scene in Cyborg when JCVD goes bar dancing in Thailand.
😂😂😂
Iconic scene. Can't believe people mix it up with that entirely different scene from kickboxer 😂
O shit I didn't even catch that
That's kickboxer not cyborg
He wears female clothes in his newest movie.
This is a great movie. Watch it to this day. Love the soundtrack.
Hell yeah, you reviewed Cyborg. Hands down my favorite Van Damme movie. Just absolute batshit DIY post-apocalyptic goodness.
I didn't know it and I need to watch it immediately.
@@emidom2004
I highly recommend it.
💯
@@emidom2004 After that you can also try Nemesis (1992) same director Albert Pyun. Both great action movies.
@@eyeprops5422 Cyborg and Nemesis were really good.
@@meeu Yep. that's how to make action movies. They Took it seriously... So did I... Another movie I love is Hardware (1990). About a guy just trying to impress his girl with a Christmas gift of the remains of a deadly forgotten buried AI used by governments that attributed to the Apocalypse. He found it in the post apocalyptic desert. A lot of heart in this movie. I still love it. Really sad if you listen to the social and economic undertones of the movie spoken by the actors.
We actually watched this in primary school as a treat on our last day of term! Everyone enjoyed this, kids and teachers alike! lol
Whoever came up with the idea of naming most characters after music instrument/gear brands was a genius and mostly likely high af.
Who could ever forget the character glockenspiel?
Well it was the 80s. Cocaine was America's cup of coffee back then. o_O
Broke Araki and Guilty Gear devs: naming characters after rock bands
Woke Cyborg writers: naming characters after musical instrument/gear brands
I watched this movie many times as a kid, but I never realized how brutal the story is before I saw this UA-cam. They don't make movies like this anymore.
Really brutal, and it's was actually edited down, before it's release, so not to get an X rating
Bloodsport, Cyborg and Kickboxer have 80's movie magic!
And the catalyst of that magic....is JCVD!!!
haha I watched this in a agrindhouse back when it came out in the 90's and we could get 3 movies in a row for a pittance, people EXPLODED in laughter when the villain revealed his flat abs, and cheered when he finally died. I had a BLAST and to this day this is one of my favorite Van Damme movies
It really is a masterpiece most people don’t recognize.
This is great. Also, rip to the director of Cyborg, Albert Pyun. He passed away just last year. Another of his films you could review is The Sword and the Sorcerer. That would be a lot of fun.
Fun fact: Cyborg was originally supposed to be a sequel to Masters of the Universe, but it fell through, so they used the sets to make this masterpiece…
That would have been an awesome sequel, they could have had Lundgren come back and Van could have played Fisto.
The sets not on location, were on the backlot of DEG Studios in Wilmington, NC, and were recycled from "Year Of The Dragon".
It was also supposed to be Spider-Man. It was a really convoluted production.
As in He-Man?
@@gingersnaps7186 yes. It was during the heyday of Cannon films buying movie rights, getting a star, making a poster, and selling it off lol. So Albert Pyun was going to direct a Masters of the Universe 2 and Spider-Man movie at the same time using the same sets. Dolph lundgren refused to reprise the He-Man role. So they were going to do it with Laird Hamilton. Anyway, the whole thing fell apart for both projects so they used the sets they built in North Carolina for a totally u related project-Cyborg…
I f***in love this movie. A Van Damme classic💯💯
We all need to thank Van Damme for giving mankind hope to live again 🥲
He's the real cure.
YUUUUUP!!!!
One of the post apocalypse moves I loved watching during the mid to late 80s. I have on blu ray
I bought this dvd 20 years ago and it's the best movie ever made, even better than Star Wars and Citizen Kane and The Little Mermaid and Space Cop.
DVD 😂😂 I had the VHS 😂😂
I had it on every platform imaginable. Currently I have it on bluray now. I bought every freaking van damme movie up until The Quest (everything after that movie didn't do it for me anymore) at least 3 times - VHS, DVD and bluray. Can't say I did that with any other movies.
This was my first Van Damme movie. I've been a fan ever since!
I love this movie. This is my dad's favorite Van Damme film because of how much darker it was in comparison to what Van Damme had put out up until this time period. Fender was also one disturbing/intimidating villain. His look and that voice were incredible as was the film's score. The fake teeth in this film also deserve praise. They looked disgusting.
Fender was actually a surfer doing competition and the director saw him and loved his scary eyes or something like that...that actor is actually not an actor lol. He only played this one role if I am not mistaken.
@@lajeandom I had no idea. He killed it as Fender. This guy genuinely scared the crap out of me as a kid and I wanted to see him die so badly by the climax of the film. He damn near immovable for the majority of the film. He was an awesome villain.
Vincent Klynn, also in Point Break gettin' jacked up with Anthony Kiedis by Keanu.
@@lajeandom He was also in Kickboxer 2

Thank You for this reminder of old good VHS days :)
Cyborg is vintage Van Dammage at his best
The action is 2Fast 2Furious and entertaining
This is a Fast and Furious action movie with a vengeance
This movie is awesome glad I grew up on van damme, Arnold and sly
My dad took my 8 year old brother to this movie when it was in theaters not knowing what it was about. Big WTF moment for him. I liked it when I was a kid though.
HOW THE FUCK was your dad able to do that???? My parents tried so fucking hard to get me into Universal Soldier. I wanted to see that more than anything and there's just no way they were gonna let me in even with parents. It was R not AA. It still pisses me off to this day. I'll never forget that moment.
@@CJTranceAddiction I managed to get in to see Predator with a phone cal from my grandmother to the ticket booth. I was 14 at the time.
@@CJTranceAddictionI saw universal soldier in the theater when I was either 9 or 10. My stepdad and his buddy visiting us from Hawaii took me to see it. I also remember seeing a couple of Steven Segal movies in theaters at an even younger age.
That Van Damme split was so awesome! Everyone wanted to train Karate cos of Van Damme, most in Nairobi settled for Taekwondo, which was vibrant at that time. I loved Cyborg, I watched it as a kid, it was one of the last blockbusters by Van Damme just before the blockbuster 'Time Cop'
I don't care what anyone says. I loved this movie as a kid and I still do lol.
Man, I think I watched this movie almost 30 years ago. I also always felt like JCVD was the real cure of the world 😭
YUUUUUP!!!😭🤣😂😆
😂
Seagal is the plague. JCVD is the cure.
Soundtrack went with this film so well very atmospheric, plenty of action.
Loved this and awol 😁👍
You can tell this is a serious movie, because JCVD did not dance in this one
What I remember most of this film, though I haven’t seen it in decades, is the beautiful soundtrack and the atmospheric dread.
I love this movie, it's so ridiculous. The part where he keeps hitting Fender in the face at the end and Fender keeps screaming. I almost died of laughter as a kid.
😭🤣😂😆👏👏👏
Best part is where he's laying with his woman and he has a nightmare where the villains are just randomly in the window watching..lmao so fd
@@chanceturcotte 😭🤣😂😆No best part is when, JACKASSES make fucked up comments about COOL ART, just to get THE APPROVAL OF OTHERS!!!😐😐😐😐
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH !!!!!!!!!
The desperate panic in Van Damme's voice before he swings on the pipe. 🤣😭
This movie was my jam back in the day! 💯👌🏾
Make VHS 📼 movies great again!
I love it. Always had. A great low budget apocalyptic movie. I love JCVD
Watched this every Sunday morning when my uncle and his kids spent the night at our place, then had lunch together before they headed back to Long Island. Then I would fire up the genesis and chill. My Uncle hated on Fender, but I think my Uncle was jealous because my Aunt had a crush on him especially when he took off the glasses... lmao. Simple times man thanks for the memories.
one of my all time favorite JCVD movies as a kid an adult lol watched it over 100 times lol
I love the hard core power emotion from every Van Damme statement in this rockstar video!!!!!
My friends and I went and saw this in the theater. Best day of my f***in life!
You lucky bastard.
when i was a kid I remember buying a VHS double feature of bloodsport and cyborg. I never got tired of watching either.
This is my favorite Van Damme movie of all time. I used to watch it twice a week when I was a kid. I had it on a VCR tape 😂
words fail me to express my thoughts feelings.... I was only a child that for the first time i watched it, that was too much for a kid at that age.. still i watch and love it there is not and won't be anything better that this one I wish he would do more like it... good old days
This is how I explain movies to my daughter so I can get her excited to watch these older movies with me 😂😂
guilty pleasure masterpiece!
the vibe of this movie is perfect.
miss that era
This movie has lived rent free in my head for decades. My affinity for Oakley's is rooted in this movie subconsciously....it all makes sense! XD
This movie recap is what what we need right now in society!
Awesome! This is big refresher from all the Steven Seagal "films"
I saw it for the first time a few years ago and was surprised with how good it was.
When I was a kid I watched this over and over and over and I think it's time to watch it again
Van Damme's awesomeness is the one thing that can't be cured
this movie is a gem of my childhood... Van Damme's flying kicks are kickassery!
Had this and blood sport on vcr. Watched em both a hundred times. Great memories!
Damn right you did! 💯
Nice. Me too, both on the same VHS
This was a childhood favourite
Oh man I was 13 when this came out and I loved it! And still do, Fender is one of my favorite all time bad guys, I still find it amazing that he didn't become a bad guy type cast actor after that movie, I only truly cherish a small handful of Van Damme flicks and Cyborg is one definitely.
I must’ve seen this movie 20 times over the years on USA or TNT back in the 90’s. Fun times!
waking up early on saturday mornings to watch cartoons and got up too early and catch this gem sometimes the warriors would be on first then cyborg then wwf wrestling oh man the 80s were fun growin up
This is one of those movies I got as a kid that just blew me away
thought i was the only one that remembered this movie lol
The splits of death, very original scene.
BRUTAL
This is one of the funniest commentary to any movie I’ve ever come across…lol. Had me in stitches.
HIS MIND WAS ALREADY BLOWN !!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've always loved this movie and I was unaware that I was such an Albert Pyun fan until I learned he directed that and many others that I loved renting from the video store. RIP Albert ♥
This is probably one of the most awesome bad films I have ever watched, enjoyable movie
What A Awesome Movie!
Still better then most movies period.
I saw this in the theater on opening day. The entire audience (had to be a least 20 people) was laughing be the end of the movie because it was so bad. Thanks for a second laugh at this masterpiece.
Bullshit
It’s so bad that it’s so fucking good bro
@@toshoshi1551 no . Shut up shill
Why were they laughing?
@@Met9171 the guy is lying. There was nothing to laugh about actually. The movie had an evil, hellish vibe to it, with just a glimmer of hope in van damme n that girl. Everything was lost. N she died. And the movie was very well made. And had alot of violence. Great music ( i still recall, even some of the music was scary with a bad omen or hellish vibe to it) Etc. This is just bs. It s impossible for a large number of ppl back in the day especially to laugh at the movie. Prolly just a 15 y old that watched this video and made a bs comment.
Oh man. I haven't watched this movie since the 90s. Fun fact, I am from Mozambique (Africa) and at the time we would watch movies without subtitles (our oficial language is Portuguese), but we have our mother tongues. So we would just make up the dialogue or movie titles. This movie title was Fender or better, FEEEENDAAA! The Terminator 2, was something that translates to aluminum guy! Comando was : Comando saves his daughter! That barbed wire scene really got to me as a child and Fender was super scary, but the cross and splits scene just blew my mind. This movie is truly a masterpiece and not forgotten at all, everyone here remembers Feendaaaa. Surprisingly, for us Stallone was Rambo, Schwarzenegger was Commando, however Van Damme was Van Damme, that is how awesome he is.
I legit LOVE this movie
I am watxching this tonight! Masterpiece! Another masterpiece is how you covered this movie. Masterpiece.
“His the real cure for this world” true even in this day and age
He's*
This movie rules. I loved it watching it as a kid back then
I think either JCVD kicked the YT algorithm so hard it keeps bringing your videos or YT team got so fed up with a Sea-gal persisting to make movies and want me to watch through you. Either way!!!! Hell yeah!
One of my JCVD favorite movies and defintely the greatest splits in history!
Interesting fact about this film, during a fight scene between Van Damme and one of Fenders henchman, Van Damme accidentally damaged the stuntman's eye with a prop knife resulting in permanent blindness in one eye. The stuntman successfully sued him for hundreds of thousands of dollars. It didn't do a lot for JCVD's professional reputation on film sets when included with all his coke n booze binges.
Woah. Wait, hundreds of thousands?? Dude needed a better lawyer, I'm a stuntman who is now blind in one eye, we are talking at least a million.
Inflation my guy
I read about that years ago. Unfortunate accident. Oh well.
Do you know why they sued him instead of the production company? I would think they would of been liable for something they were supposed to oversee.
@@MentaIPatient Because Van Damme was personally being reckless. Also the production company was Cannon films who were collapsing when this movie was made and were probably bankrupt by time the lawsuit happened. You don't sue people who won't ever be able to pay.
I absolutely love this movie, one of my all time favorite, the soundtrack is insane,my favorite soundtrack by far, downloaded it about 10 years ago from emule,I listen to it almost every day
This movie was so awesome that it needed no dancing scenes
Ice is a comedian and not just a movie reviewer. This is all gold.
This movie has the best fight scenes around.
I loved this movie when I was a kid.
One of my favorites of all time. The most 90s anime-feeling live action movie ever made.
I read that a lot of the costumes in this were recycled from the cancelled Masters of the Universe sequel.
I heard it was the sets.
Yes, especially Fenders outfit which it was for Skeletor
Cyborg is one of the Baddest Movies of all time. A true classic!
I freaking love this movie!!!!
I love the score; absolutely perfect for the movie!
You did this justice. It is one of my favorite movies of the era, absolutely iconic and the atmosphere is dense in it. Watching it as a kid really made the world of it appear frightening yet cool and the combat sequences are underrated, especially with the sound effects and repeated hits. I think this is one of his best and could be redone today with a bigger budget. I think the score is underrated too, it is not as bombastic as today's Zimmer equivalent, but it is psychologically unnerving.
@@Sometimescloudy I do agree that a remake for corporate reasons is wrong, but I don't see how remaking something diminishes the value of the original movie/game regardless. The original is still there. Any addition is just extra. This is essentially like asking why try to make tomorrow a better day than today was. Well, regardless of how good today was, we can still make tomorrow better and if we fail, it does not diminish from anything that already was. Nostalgia is attractive, but it is dangerous and limiting. Perfect example is video games, where nostalgia prevents people from actually remembering all the issues and flaws of a game and only remember it for the fond memories, leading to very subjective interpretations. I would gladly welcome a 2023 rendition of Cyborg straight-to-Netflix starring someone that can do his own stunts for martial arts. Even if it ends up being better than average, but not as good as the original, it would still be entertaining and that is what these things are meant to be, entertainment.
He was my favorite action star growing up and this is my favorite film of his!
his best movie
Still one of my all time favorites. I really wish they had made a sequel that didn't suck The one with Angelina wasn't even close to an actual sequel to Cyborg.
Man, you're channel is pure gold !
The narration is pure gold.
so underrated
