- In this weeks vlog Chelsea goes to Juneau to do some much needed shopping. She ends up going to Costco three different times! You can also see what it's like to travel in rural Alaska. Chelsea flies to Juneau and takes the Alaska Marine Highway ferry back to Kake with most of the groceries.

Could you imagine, “oh I forgot the milk!” 😂
It happens! There is always something that you slap your forehead about on the trip home. Lol!
Or like me after a grocery haul (weekly) "there's nothing for dinner!!"
You be making a list and checking it 10 times twice.lol
Lol
yeah or i really want something different for dinner
Holy crap! And I thought my 20 minute drive to Costco was bad. I’d need a Valium after all that. Hats off to you lady, you’re pretty amazing.
Wow, taking a plane to go to the grocery story blows my mind!!! Thank you for sharing this and opening up my eyes. I love seeing how everyone’s lives are different. ❤️
It is definitely a different way of life! Thank you for watching ❤️
My local grocery store delivers each week - and they bring it inside for me ! Will never complain again. You get an A+ for all that !
I’m so intrigued as to how you store/organize all of your things! And the planning that must go into all this!!!
Me too!
Same
I'm never going to complain about grocery shopping again. 😂
How cool, so interesting to see how others live and how they manage. Budgeting $2000+ for groceries is a big deal on its own! Great video
Fascinating! Helps us stay grounded and grateful for the little things
Ok so I would not be able to have 1 shopping trip a year, but the idea of having a three day trip to do groceries all by myself sounds pretty amazing 😂
So interesting to see! I live 5 min from 2 Krogers, Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Publix, Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, and a ton of smaller grocers. Realizing I am quite spoiled for choice. My family was stationed in Alaska just before I was born so interesting to see what their life was like!
That’s if you live remote. My family lives in Wasilla and is 20 minutes from 2 grocery stores and a hour from Costco.
Wow! That is crazy. I can’t imagine getting that much food at once. Me living is Alaska....nope not me. Glad you like it...wide open spaces and nature. Much Love
Going out for a quart of milk, honey. See you in 3 days!
Hahaha. For real!
@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska 😄
@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska do you have a small store for milk and vegetables.?
WOW!!! I can't imagine ! I must never whine about grocery shopping , again. Unbelievable 😮. Amazing
Thank you for watching! We all complain every once in a while :)
Thank goodness that is an annual trip. God bless your energy. Blessings to your family
Wow! This is the mother of all grocery hauls! I am astonished at how you could handle all that stuff and get it all home. Your daughter is so adorable! She must have been wondering where her mommy went.
It was sooo much work, but I am glad I was able to do it. Thank you! She was having a ton of fun with her Grandma. Not sure she really noticed I was gone. They just tried not to say momma.
Ive always wanted to live in Alaska, i have no idea why or when it started but it began as a very young girl. I live in London in England, and the fact that 24 hour shops werent 24 hours during lockdown felt extremely difficult for me. Its so humbling to watch this, and my dreams of moving to Alaska are still alive and well, sending love from London ❤️
I live in Birmingham U.K. I too want to live there I’m hoping to go to Alaska to studie animal behaviours
I had the same "whaaaat?" feeling when I realized 24 hr walmart was no longer gonna be. They used at 8pm and I remember it being so bothersome since I was used to going to the store at 10, 11, midnight because that was my prized "ME" time away from my kids and their noisy chaos...and the 'Rona took that one special thing away! Took a few times of actually driving to the store and realizing it was closed in order for my brain to click! Hahaha! We definitely get used to stuff like that and get spoiled.
I'll never take my trip to the grocery store for granted again! Beautiful family!
Lol. It can always be harder or worse. I am glad we can afford to do this. Thank you so much.
Wow! That's incredible.
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for vlogin... just wow. I can’t imagine living my life like this.
I live on an island in the Marianas Pacific and I can totally relate! Oftentimes, I’d have to fly and island hop to buy household goods and supplies and air cargo them back. It’s a struggle sometimes, but definitely worth it!
I am glad you get it! :)
Same. We are from The Bahamas and has to fly to the US to do the same!
what so how much does it cost to fly? also how much does it cost for the air cargo?
Boy I sure do have to hand it to you girl! I could never do that. I will never complain about having to go back out to the store (which is about 6-8 blocks from my house) if I forget something again!! God bless you.
Wow!!! I thought weekly shopping for my family of 5.5 was hard!! Our pup is .5 i will never complain!! You are amazing!!💜
Wow, this is really amazing. I do not know what I would do in Alaska because I really love to shop. This is a full scale precise planning, traveling, buying, sorting & shipping it all to where you live. I have yet to visit Alaska and now I am a little knowledgeable on what to expect. Thumbs up and high praise.
Thank you for showing another way of life.
And I’m over here complaining about my 2 hour grocery trips..... I will stop complaining lol you’re Wonder Woman
Well... I’m going to stop complaining about having to go to Costco once every 6 weeks... geez this triggered some anxiety for me haha
lol when we lived in Juneau for college. I loved going to Costco. I am sorry you do not enjoy it. Maybe as time goes on it will grow on you. Think about all the good deals :D
Right?! I am literally 10 minutes away from Costco and complain that I have to deal with parking, etc. Not going to complain again...lol
Maybe it varies location to location but I have not noticed Costco having good deals at all. We save enough on the dog food to about break even.
@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska how long did the ferry ride take? I would have loved a video of you loading your groceries-you know how people film then fast forward to shorten it?
Hi! This video was suggested to me. Unsure why because it isn’t my genre but I really found it interesting your journey for goods. Thanks!
Hi, I am glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully you will get a chance to watch other vlogs in the future.
Same here! This video was suggested and I thought it looked interesting, and it was! Already suscbribed and I think I'll binge watch some more videos 😁
Yeah I second that! I think its because my phone knows buying Alaska was on in the background ... 👀
I can’t Even shop for a week. Can’t Imagine doing all that.
Same! I realize I’m spoiled by being able to eat whatever, whenever...I’d save so much 💰 if I did this smh...off to Chipotle I go 😂
Wow! That is quite the adventure going to get food supplies. Amazing job Chelsea.
Thank you so much.
Wow amazing I'm never complaining about grocery shopping again (it's only me). Your a super shopper. God bless be safe.
Thank you for watching. We all have something we don’t enjoy lol. Happy holidays!
This was by far thee best haul video I have ever watched. A massive thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤
I shop for my family of 7. We are multigenerational. Me my mom and my sister and our kids 4 total. We used to be 8 😢. This is how I shop normally. We have food for at least a year maybe more. But it’s taken awhile to get to the point I am in now. But my Costco is 15 minutes down the road and we have a SUV and a Midsize SUV and then my regular car. I can’t imagine doing this. You are a warrior!!! I’m exhausted as it is after just one trip to Costco. I can’t imagine 😳
This is incredible 🤯
See ya next year 🤩
Shopping out there, is quite the adventure, and I am sure everything so far north is very expensive too. But the place is awesome.
I believe its so expensive some items Re government subsidised
I just found your channel and it is so amazing how you get all your food and I would love to live like yall do!
Awe. Welcome to our UA-cam Family! Thank you. We love gathering and hunting for as much as we can ourselves.
Chelsea you are a G.O.A.T. This video is hands down the best Costco haul on UA-cam. I don't know anyone else who must to take a plane and a ferry to grocery shop for their family. I am so glad a few people you knew where traveling that day to help load stuff in and on their vehicles.
My daughter and I pull of some big Costco hauls. However, we live about 10 minutes from a Costco and 30 minutes from another. City dwellers take convivence for granted. I shop once a month shopping at Costco, Sam’s Club, Trader Joes, Hyvee, and Walmart all on the same day. I used to complain about the parking. Never EVER will I complain again. Make your lists and check them twice. I will be sharing your video at our next ladies night! New fans!
Awe, thank you so much. Its always a crazy time when shopping that much, but its a great feeling to get it done. Oh man, you have so many options. Do you go to each for the best deals or just like to shop at all of them? Have a great ladies night! Tell everyone we said Hi :)
So interesting! I love seeing how other people live their lives. Thanks for sharing!
Of course, thank you for watching!
I’m addicted to watching Alaska vlogs, this is so intriguing!!!
I am so glad you found us!
Makes me feel guilty when I mumble to myself after getting home from the supermarket at having to unload the car. To explain, no Cosco where I am, but I have 3 supermarkets that are a 5 minute drive from where I live I will never complain again! You are nothing short of an absolute legend!
Awe, thank you so much. That is very sweet.
To put my comment into more perspective, my closest Cosco is about an hour's drive from me 🤦♀️
I will not complain about the Costco that is 10min away anymore. Not sure how I came across your channel but I love them.
Well I am glad you found us!
Wow just wow! how much work and sacrifice you have to do living in Alaska. Taking plane for grocery, leaving family for few days, stock up necessity for a year, packaging, ferry to, not enough sleep, omg! There are just too many things that I take for granted. This is an eye opening for me. Thanks for sharing the life of this side of the world. Stay safe.
Thank you so much for watching. It is definitely a different way of life, but it also allows us to live in a beautiful place surrounded by nature!
Lived in Alaska 37 years, southeast Alaska for 12 of those. Glad I live in Arizona now...
Where in Southeast did you live. Glad you get to enjoy the warmth now.
@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska 10 years in Juneau, 2 years in Sitka. I did enjoy the hunting & fishing, it was fantastic, but got tired of the rain & isolation, wanted to live where I could drive as far as I wanted...
I can't imagine how to plan a huge grocery trip like this. how overwhelming! perhaps one is used to it living in Alaska, tho. interesting to watch. chelsea is too cute. I have a boy around her age ❤
My brother is moving to Juneau from Anchorage at the end of the month. He was telling me about the ferry. Now I can tell him I have seen the airport, the ferry and the Cosco. HA! Thanks for sharing! It was educational.
Thats great. I hope he likes it there. You can help him out on what to expect lol :)
I am so super excited to have found this blog! Living in England rurally has nothing on rural Alaska! If I could move anywhere that is where we would go! So excited to binge watch some vlogs once the kids are in bed xxx
Welcome to our UA-cam Family! So glad you found us as well.
This is insane! Your planning skills are legendary! Thank you so much for sharing. Puts a lot of things into perspective.
So many question, you didn’t explain very well for us reg people lol. By that I mean a grocery store every 15 mins in every direction.
1. How did you get it all to the ferry? A cab? Then you loaded on 3 friends cars? So everything went on 3 peoples cars you weren’t sure who would help. How did you get it all home? Did you unload again at ferry then another car? Why don’t you rent a car for the whole experience? Or how come you don’t own one? Or your mother? How come you do this all alone? Do you have lists you use every Time? Soooo many questions we all have. Like how you store. This could be a whole video. Longest question Ive ever asked.
My sister drove the silver car and a friend brought her Jeep to help transport stuff. The stuff went into two friends cars who where taking their cars back to Kake. The other stuff went on the baggage cart that the ferry provides. Joe and my brother Jonny brought our two cars to the ferry to pick everything up once we got to Kake. I went to Juneau by myself because Joe was working and I did not want to take my daughter to Juneau with all the Covid-19 trouble. I had a master list I took everywhere. We will try to show how we store everything in a video soon. Thank you for watching. Hopefully I answered all your questions.
@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska Thank you for this explanation. I was watching the whole video in anticipation of seeing how you got it all home by yourself. This looked so much fun. I love shopping but I never have to buy so much as we live in a city.
I think next time if you could just rent a cargo trailer for the stock up if that would work?
Yes, I have lots of questions as well. How long was the plane ride? How long was the ferry ride? What are the prices like there?
@@jeannerybaczek5855 Prices are very high....there's another family from Alasak that does videos that do the occasional shopping haul & show prices at the store. Some of it is like YIKES! I don't know how people afford to live in Alaska with how high everything is. In most places literally everything is flown in & the stores have to pay their price plus shipping per pound which others have mentioned (they talked to managers) are usually $0.50 or $1.00 a pound. Again yikes.
She's adorable holding the power screw driver tool and handing it to her daddy is the cutest
My goodness! She’s adorable Lil Miss Bon Bon. That’s cute
Thank you ❤️
Your a great mom!!!
This is so interesting 🤔.... to try to shop for a yr... love seeing this
Thank you so much for watching!
I was so confused when I read the title....this is AMAZING!!!
Thank you. It was a lot of work. But a relief once I got home.
Aweee you have a beautiful family, and you are a strong woman! 💜
I just watched this video and I would have loved to see you unpack it all and see how you store so much.
Thanks for the video!!
Thank you for watching. I slept in the next day and Joe put everything away. He forgot to video it. We will try to do a tour of where we keep it all :)
This is so fascinating, Chelsea! I so take for granted just going to Target down the road. Wow! Thanks for sharing your life with us. :)
Oh man, I love Target. I miss that store. No problem, thank you for watching!
Good job getting it all done. Figuring out what was necessary for a year, planning, list making , travel plans, paying for incidentals such a s UBER and so on.
Thank you. It is a lot of work, but also second nature at this point.
I can see it now dang that's a good chocolate bar - I will pick more up NeXt Year !
Your daughter is hilarious. I am in awe of what you do.
This is just so interesting! I complained when they remodeled our grocery store and I had to travel three miles away instead of one!
It's all about each situation. When we lived in Juneau we complained about having to drive like 10 miles to get downtown lol. We rarely went. Thanks for watching!
Interesting life in Alaska. It must be harder up there, with scheduling seaplanes.. I'm in a rural small town in Pennsylvania and when the snowstorms come we adjust and prepare for the hard months.
I am one block from the Chicago border-it literally starts at the end of my block. I am six blocks from a major supermarket. Even with essentially being in a major city, near to what we need, we keep a full pantry for the winter months. When we get snowy, freezing winters here it is just terrible. No one wants to go out for necessities.
Wow thanks for showing this. You did a great job of managing this.
Very interesting! Wow! Thats alot of work for you. I enjoyed your video😊
I feel you on those diaper boxes! An expensive necessity, that's for sure! Hope you got some stuff for you too, Mama! Loved this video.
I miss ferry rides. Loving Alaska 💞
I enjoyed this so much. I've always dreamed of living in Alaska. It's beautiful. I don't like to fly which is the only bad part. That takes a lot of planning to do what you did. I would love to see what you make and how you organize it all.
Thank you for watching! We love living here even though its kind crazy. Keep watching and I am sure you well get a peak into what we use it for. Sadly and thankfully, Joe put everything away while I was asleep and forgot to taken a video. Maybe when things get more organized I will go through and show all our cubby holes!
Wow this is an awesome video thanks for showing they way you live your life !! My heart melted when Bonnie responded back for a mommy kiss 😘
She is precious!! Look at that beautiful red hair!!
Thank you so much. It is so fun that she has red hair like mom and dad.
Oh my! I can't imagine having to do this. I am at Costco at least twice a week 3x if I forgot anything. Great video! Stay safe ❤
Watching from Maine
Of course I had to google where Kake is in Alaska. Looks like it’s a couple hours on the ferry. New sub here. Love this!!
Welcome to our UA-cam Family! Where do you live?
@@LewisFamilyVlogAlaska I live in New Jersey USA! ❤️
Thats awesome. Joe and I traveled there before having Bonnie.
And I get annoyed making a special trip for a 10 minute car ride to pick up a 79p loaf of bread. Damn, girl
Me too!!
In other parts of Alaska groceries can cost much much more then in southeast Alaska.
When I take a 20 minute drive to the Bread outlet I try to combine it with other errands along the way. Oh, and I pick up 4 loaves at a time. Enough for more than a month
@@jillygirl2024 how in the world does that last you a month 😂. I grab four for a week and a half.
I actually thought there will be more since it is a year's worth. Great job. Doing this would give me anxiety especially given that you have to disinfect and store everything. Hope to see how you will store it. 😊👍
This was our biggest but for the year because we where able to take it back on the ferry. When we travel ( if ever since covid) we will take a tote and get smaller things here and there if needed. Joe put everything away while I slept in. It was great! I probably would have bought more stuff if I would have know the ferry would work out so well. 🤷♀️
WOW! You win the award for hardest working grocery shopper. Your hauls are epic. I live in NY state & complain when I shop on line & use instacart & have to drive 3 &1/2 miles to pick it up have someone load my car for me then I drive 3 1/2 miles back home & have to unload my car & put it away. I'm so ashamed after seeing how hard you work grocery shopping. I will never complain again (well maybe a little, hehehe)
Juneau is my hometown( first 18 years of my life), Ive only been home once since 2008 so it was so nice to see little bits of it in this video.
I am glad you where able to see your home town. Hopefully we can start traveling again soon and show you more adventures in Juneau.
Fantastic!! Love seeing all you can get up there. Gorgeous little girl😍😍
Wow I totally take for granted just Amazon-ing something and having it usually the next day for free or running out to the store just for a few items.
We actually use Amazon a lot. Its hard to get food or cleaning supplies off of there. It also takes 2 to 3 weeks to get our packages. So we have to plan ahead for Holidays.
I couldn't imagine having to do that. We have four kids two of which are teen-aged boys who eat like it's their job. I get a very full cart when I go to Costco once a month.
I want to see how you store everything please
We will try to add that into a vlog soon!
You go girl! I want to live in a rural area like you do! Man I'm never going to complain about shopping again!
This was a very interesting video for me. I live in a suburb of Dallas Texas and can literally walk across the street to a strip center that has a bank, grocery store, a couple of clothing stores, restaurants, beauty salon, doctor's office etc.. We live in completely worlds and I find it so interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Wow‼️ makes me appreciate everything so much more.......well done 👏👏👏👏👏👏
You are seriously so strong. I'd be having so many panic attacks having to go to all these stores, having all these boxes and freaking out how I'm even gonna get them home and depending on other people!
I was close to a panic attack once I saw how much stuff we had. I just had to hope it would all work out.
Alaskans are wonderful about helping each other out. You have to be a hearty soul to live and survive here.
Wow! I thought I did good doing month grocery hauls. Can't imagine doing this for me family of 9!
was stationed at fort richardson alaska(army)from 1978-81 learned to ski(downhill and cross-country)fish for salmon and of course practically petting the up-teans of moose everywhere. saw the pipeline and visited the seward marina area as well as many other attractions🏔❄🙂
I find this fascinating. My grandparents moved to Alaska to teach in Nuquisit when I was a teenager. They spent 10 years there. I always wanted to experience that lifestyle.
That is so awesome. My mom moved to Kake to teach and then lived and taught her for 30 years.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us
Fascinating. Decades ago I saw list of family in Alaska who had food flown in once a year. Wheat flour sugar oats dried beans etc even toiletries. She said if they forgot anything had to wait til next year.
We are not that extremely isolated. We still have a grocery store, its just more expensive. Im glad I do not have that pressure.
That sort of shopping would stress me out, double or triple checking everything on my list to make sure I had everything.
And here I am getting all my groceries delivered to my house every week 😂
Ok I am very sorry to tell you this but in your titles there's a pic of your kid on her dad's shoulders with a teeny tiny ponytail, that was so cute and adorable I almost exploded with the feels. What a cutie pie! Seriously. Hope you all have a lovely week!
That was so sweet. I do miss that little baby. She is such a grown up now lol. I have to remind myself that she is still little.
Wow this so so cool! I love seeing what life is like in other parts of the world. Things we think are mundane like grocery shopping are so different. You momma are amazing I can't believe you were able to do all of this on your own. Can't wait to se what is next! That view with lunch was epic
Thank you for watching! It was a fun, crazy trip. If you enjoy seeing Alaska or our silly girl you will love our videos.
All I can is God Bless you. What a woman!!!! .Thanks for sharing
If that does not look like a Bob Ross painting!!! Beautiful!
So interesting, my husband wants us to move to Alaska.
Liked and subscribed..loved this video and your family is great
Welcome to our UA-cam Family ❤️
This was so fun to watch! I currently live in Sitka but spent a summer living in Kake when I was younger! Sitka is definitely not as rural but we have had our fair share of Juneau Costco ferry runs too haha
Do you ever get the guy who checks your receipt at costco who says "see you tomorrow!" because he def saw you tomorrow haha. This was really interesting and fun to watch since I live in Juneau but never thought about how people who live in rural towns come into town to get their groceries. Also wanted to add that your baby is so stinkin cute!
Oh man. I love that guy. He actually did not say that to me while I was there lol. Missed his chance. Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for sharing! Honestly I had no idea, and I think it’s so important to let the world know :).
Of course. Thank you for watching :)
I love Juneau! My hubby and I have been there a couple of times on an Alaskan cruise. We hope to go back again someday, we just loved Alaska! 😁💖
Wow you are amazing 🤩. My Costco in the uk is an hour away... I did wonder how you were getting it all home!!!
I love seeing the beautiful pictures of Alaska...
This is the first video I have watched of yours. I really like your channel and your family is beautiful. I'm glad you showed up in my suggested videos.
So glad you found us!
