- We got to finish out our yearly grocery haul in Juneau. We sent a second load of groceries on the barge. Then we finally flew back to Kake. We are home! The real work begins, unloading the barge, and putting everything away. In this vlog we show all of our storage for our yearly grocery hauls.

I glad you managed to get so much of your shopping done and sent home, and Bonnie's bed is absolutely gorgeous it must be a relief to you both to have a big store of supplies in. I do hope someone has looked after your veg garden for you while you were away. I can't wait to see you all enjoying a bike ride. It was lovely to see so much of Bonnie, and hear her beautiful giggles. Sending love and best wishes to you all 💞
Sadly our garden was over taken by weeds when we got home. We will share more of that in the upcoming vlogs!
Your daughter will have the best of two worlds living an island life and time spent in the more populated city.
The key to success is as you have said relationships helping one another. I love your channel and someday hope to visit Alaska
This is how Chelsea grew up, and she loved it. Awe, thank you so much. Hopefully you can visit sometime soon!
Cute. She reminds me when I sleep during traveling.
I love your guys videos. It always relaxes me and I find life in Alaska very intriguing
Awe, thank you so much.
My lamb.Lil Miss Bonnie is growing so quickly. We love your family friendly videos.May The Universe bless your family.
Its wild, she just wont slow down. Thanks for watching!
Bonnie saying "barge" was the most precious thing ever
Right! She keeps talking about it. So cute 🥰
Little Miss Bonnie has grown so much this summer. THANKS FOR SHARING HER WITH US..
GOD BLESS from Julie West Central IN Farmland ✝️🇺🇸🥰🚜
Awe, We where just talking about that. Glad she can bring happiness to people’s days. I know she is always brightening our day.
Are you near Stronghurst?
The process of getting all your shopping items shipped to Kake is kinda neat to watch. Thanks for sharing. 👍
You guys stay busy, but it doesn’t look like it stresses you out. It’s great motivation for your viewers. Welcome back! I’m glad you had a great vacation with friends and family. What a beautiful array of house plants you have.
Thank you. We inherited most of the plants from Chelseas mom. Only a couple have died in 4 years. So we are doing pretty good.
Bonnie is SUCH a cutie! What a lovely family! I'm so glad I found your channel today :)
We are so glad you found us! Welcome to our UA-cam Family!
you guys are very nice to go shopping for others. i shop for 4 houses every 4 months....it's a BIG haul....nothing like your shopping for a full year...but it's a lot of work!! bless your family for your kindness!!
That is very kind of you. I am sure that is a lot of work. I am also sure that the people really appreciate it.
So sweet. 💝🙏💝 you have a beautiful family. 💝🙏💝 prayers and congratulations to you guys enjoy each other.
Hi! Have A Great Day! Much Love!
That shopping haul is such a big chore. Wow! I love Bonnie’s new bed, it is really sweet.
I am so impressed with how prepared you are! I work hard to shop once a month with a meal plan and household stock up list. Doing it once a year is so hard! Great video!
Thank you!
I love your life! Thanks for sharing.
Awe, thank you so much. Very sweet. Thanks for watching!
keep sharing!!!
I saw your dryer sheet and had an idea. If you still get baby wipes you can get the plastic wipe container and put dryer sheets in it. Keeps them fresh longer...💜
We never really had those plastic containers, but I think someone gave us something in one. I will have to see if we still have any and try it out :) thanks for the idea.
All of that wonderful space and everything is just thrown together
Your daughter is so adorable. I love watching these grocery hauls. We just bought a cabin in the mountains and the closet Costco/target etc is over 120 miles away. It’s going to be a huge change and I’m going to have to learn how to shop differently. Would love to see how you go about planning for the year!
You are the second person who has asked that. I am afraid it would not be a very good video. My family has been shopping this way as long as I can remember. So its a lot of going off of instinct. I will think more about it though!
I wondered the same thing. I do monthly but i can still go for fresh if needed. The planning would be crazy
You are the cuties GINGER FAMILY.
I am enjoying you videos and your family life. Very different from my life as a young mother. We live in Toronto , Ontario.
I am now retired and love watching young family’s. Sending hugs and love….keep up the great work!💕
Thanks for watching! Hugs from AK
Sounds like you have a really great neighborhood friendship 🥰 I love how community comes together, from shopping for each other to helping getting the package home 🥰
Thank you for sharing and very interesting! You are a beautiful family 😊
Love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴 (yes I read that Norway was on your bucket list for traveling and some parts are more like rual Alaska, and have more dark winters and light summer, and others are more "regular" places. Anyhow I think you will enjoy the nature here, we have a lot of beautiful nature, just like Alaska 🥰)
People in Kake are so good at helping each other out, its so wonderful. It seems like Norway would be very similar to Alaska. We love to learn about other cultures.
I have to say - such a cute family... really enjoyed watching you all.
Wow so much work for groceries! Guess I shouldn’t complain about having to go so far for mine 16 miles. Also, Bonnie is a little cutie, hope she enjoys her new bed
I live for uour videos, you guys are amazing.
Im from Ireland and we really take for granted having grocery stores so close to us xx
Awe, so glad you enjoy our content. ❤️
Love seeing how you plan and shop and make it all work!! :)
Thank you! It is always an adventure lol.
Thanks for sharing your shopping trip and haul wow.Hope Bonnie love her big girl bed.I think it is a beautiful princess bed .👍🥰
Luv Bonnie's bed, wish I had all that pantry space 💜
I have to say I applude you guys cos that's amazing for a years full of shopping for 3 of you, yes I know that you haven't got fresh goods but you got boxes, a bed, bikes etc amgost your food shopping YES guys some of you may say wow that's alot but remember this family shopping for a year and they have to pay to ship it home so it's not easy for these guys so bear that mind everyone!!
I do so enjoy your shopping hauls, I go Costco here in the UK and we don't have as many nice goodies as you guys 😩, I wish we did
Lisa UK xxxx 👏👏
Always fun watching how things work regarding all of your groceries, etc. Knowing the work and cost involved is interesting. And, thanks for showing us where/how you store everything. You are fortunate to be in a large home. I'm sure it's hard to remember what you all have at home and what you all need especially when you need to buy so far in advance.
Very true. Sometimes we buy more then we need because we forgot and sometimes we buy too little.
Love your videos! It’s like things I never knew that I wanted to know! LOL. So interesting!
Love the yearly hault !
Looks like y'all are pretty much stocked for a year.
How often do you go shop for fresh fruits, vegetables & dairy?
Also where do you go get it?
Your daughter has grown so much! She's adorable!
Do you live in your child home?
5K really isn't bad considering all you & your husband bought & had shipped.
It's nice that you help out your friends/family & visa versa. You help out each other and that's great!
Thank you for sharing you life.
I find it very interesting and it goes to just how spoiled I am having access to the grocery store and other stores whenever I need to go. Much respect!
You & your husband make a great team! Stay safe! 🙏🏻
We get fresh food. Once a month usually or every month in a half. We have the fresh stuff sent on the plane from Juneau. We do live in Chelseas childhood home ❤️
I can’t even imagine doing a yearly grocery haul! When I go to the store, it’s hard to find dry foods that aren’t expiring in under 2 months
I guess we don’t worry so much about expirations. Its just a made up number in our eyes.
Bonnie’s hair is getting sooo long! It is an absolute pleasure watching your little miss grow up and your continuing family adventures! Love you guys!
I loved seeing all your adventures this summer with family in Seattle and your travels back home to Alaska. It was definitely interesting to see how things get from the lower 48 all the way to Alaska and then to your home in Kake. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoyed this video. Where you live, looks beautiful. Lovely wee family. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Lizzi. ✌️🤗
Thanks for watching!
I'm working on getting to the point of once a year shopping. I need to get a little better about figuring out how much I use with lots of stuff so that I can do that. Y'all did amazing!!
You all have the most beautiful hair. Love the color.
Awe, thank you!
WOW,what a haul. Bonnie is too cute.
Thank you ❤️
I just came across your channel. After seeing that, no more complaining about having to get groceries . Love yours and your daughters hair color
Awe, thank you ❤️
That's fun your busy just to go shopping you have to go thru a lot.
You all did wonderful job
Love, love your videos,
Love your support! ❤️
You guys are very cool. So peaceful. I really like your channel. 😊
Awe, thank you so much.
Hi Lewis fam-welcome home. I was shocked to see all the food and supplies you have in your house. But that means less grocery store visits, which I loathe. I order most of mine on the store app and then do store pick up. What does Bonnie think about being home now? Love Bonnie cam at the end. Take care, hope to see more soon.
There is a lot of stuff for sure! Bonnie is very happy to be home, but missing her Nana and all the family time.
I believe many are going to be short when the shortages begin again. Some are not preparing but the Lewis’ are way ahead of the game.
Y’all make me want to visit Alaska ☺️
Me too 👍🏻
Me three!! Lol - I’ve always wanted to go but this and Somers in Alaska channel is making it worse 🙏🏻🌻
Aww I’m a new subscriber
Welcome to our UA-cam Family!
U are so pretty.. OMG ur daughter is a cutie pie and very smart. I love the way u and ur husband shop. I'm a new subscriber looking forward to doing some binge watching😊 to catch up!
Awe, that is so very sweet. Welcome to our UA-cam Family! So glad to have you join our adventure.
New subscriber and I already love your video/vlogs….Cute family🙏🏼❤️
Welcome to our UA-cam family! ❤️
Good job organizing! I'm impressed by y'all's energy. I'm afraid I would have collapsed the moment I walked in the door.
Lol, sometimes we wanted too. Thats for sure.
Fantastic job🌸
Have you guys ever thought of getting buckets instead of those bags? Then you can get those screw tops to put all your perishables in there like flour and stuff not perishables but you know what I meant
I have never seen buckets of flour or rice at Costco. If they had them, we would probably buy them. We can always use a bucket!
I’m soo jealous!!! I don’t know how Bethel continued to survive long enough for me to end up here. It’s sooo expensive and inaccessible . So few options. You guys are blesses. I hope something happens in my future so I can end up somewhere where I can do what you guys do .
I hope so too!
I'd love to c how you do Christmas ☃️🎄 . So jealous id love to live in Alaska. Keep the vlogs coming we love them.
Here is a playlist of our Christmas adventures from last year. ua-cam.com/play/PLT7M9yeuRUrEH5qm4tkN5OPZsXJiL6yfN.html
Hi 👋 I’m a new subscriber from England 🏴 nice to meet you 👍👋🌸
Hi! Welcome to our UA-cam Family!
Yooo I love this. Honestly I’d love to organise all of that! But then again I’m just obsessed with organising…
That would be amazing. I love to see it organized, but its hard to take the time and I get frustrated half way through lol
A few years back I bought a cupboard from IKEA. It was missing a part, they said I could only get a replacement part if I returned to store. That was 120miles away, can you imagine if that happened to you!!
Good day😊😊
Bonnie is So cute❤
Thank you for sharing..Im new and just love your vlogs..Im in Houston Texss.. Texas Angie
Welcome to our UA-cam Channel! So glad you found us.
I don't think I'll be complaining about shopping and/or transportation costs anymore (or at least out loud)!
Aawww Bonnie is So Adorable, It Feels Like We your Subscribers are Apart of A Distant Lewis Family Watching This Little Angel Grow. I Don't Do Any Form of Social Media Only UA-cam, I'm so Glad I found Your Channel We Have Watched Bonnie Grow So Quickly and Watched You Beautiful Girl, and Your Adorable Husband Share your Wonderful Life. I Have Viewed Other Channel's On UA-cam Living in parts of Alaska, Prepping For Winter e.t.c But have not Subscribed as they to me are too Fake, Over the top Religious, O.C.D Wise. But this Channel is Down To Earth and Real. You are Heading into your Winter and Here in My State of Victoria Australia all Australia are Heading into our Summer ugh Hate Summer With a Passion. I Have Never Seen, Touched or Smelled Snow, It Does Snow Here in winter on The Mountains. So To Make This Comment End, I Just want to say Thank you Lewis Family For Sharing Your Wonderful Life From Australia and Around The World. Hug's from Australia. Posting You a Christmas Card This Week so It Gets there in time. Big Hug To Bonnie 🐨🦘😇
Awe, you are so very kind. Im glad you enjoy how we share our adventures. Hugs from Alaska ❤️
I was surprised at that barge cost! I figured inflation would have made the cost higher!
We thought it was going to be higher to!
I Realize This is None of My Business!! I Will Respect Your Answer. But, what do You and Hubby do For a Living, in Order to Afford Such Huge Amounts of Food and Supplies?? Plus Plane and Barge Fares Back and Fourth?? This Just Astounds Me!! You Must Live Very, Very Remotely. Love Your Videos and Your Daughter is a "Cutie Pie"!! Thanks!
I understand how it seems kind of wild. It is a very different life then most people live. My husband is actually just a teacher. We try our best to keep other expenses low so that we can get our food in bulk. Its really the same that others spend in a year probably even less, its just all at once.
Depending on the amount of subscribers they, they get paid for vlogging.
Mmmmmm and I bet you know exactly where everything is 🤣🤣
Sure do lol. We all get used to our own messes, right :)
If I may ask how much do you spend a year on food / supplies?
I love your vlogs 💖 God bless your beautiful family 👪 ❤ Bonnie is soooo adorable !!! 💖
Man, if I only knew. We are working on becoming better at keeping a budget, but its a work in progress. At this point, we do not know. 🤭 thanks for watching!
I've asked so many questions (I'm sorry!) but could you also do a hair tutorial? I love the way your hair looks when it's in a bun, and I can never get mine to look decent 😒
Hahaha, maybe in the next Q&A ill do one. Ill have to think about how I do it lol.
Bonnie , I love your big girl bed..😊
Hi I just found you guys today….I bonded quickly with y’all…it might be the red hair lol 😂 I enjoyed this shopping vlog. I’m from Texas and I find it interesting how y’all shop for the year or most of the year at one time.I look forward to whatever else your channel offers. Stay safe & Stay well 💗🍁🍂🐿🎃💀🌬🍎
So glad you found us! Welcome to our UA-cam Family! Hopefully you are safe from the flooding in Texas ❤️
So much fun watching all your vacation videos! Excited about Hawaii!
Us to!
I live for your sped up furniture build vids and REALLY wish that's how it happened IRL. Lol. DANG YOU IKEA AND YOUR TEN THOUSAND PARTS :shakes fist at sky:
Hahahha, I love it.
Its like a big puzzle.
It's amazing how Bonnie wears her little mask! Glad you guys had such a great summer! Hugs from Missouri 🤗
We are so glad she doesn’t fight the mask very much. Its kind of a scary world right now.
Could you walk us through how you determine what you pick out (and quantity) when you do your dry grocery haul? I’m curious to see how this is done as I’m soon going to be living the farm life, and going into town for “more spaghetti” will not be as easy of a trip as it is now
I am not sure I am organized enough to explain it lol. I have watched my parents do it my whole life and kind of just go from what I know. Ill think about it some more though. That is very exciting. If we did not live in Alaska, we would probably live on a little farm :)
I would love to see cooking videos x
Here is a playlist with videos we have cooked in :) ua-cam.com/play/PLT7M9yeuRUrHbMMr1W8A1XRWRC3Li1dVf.html
👍🏾
Love your channel. I am confused. Why do you ship your grocery. And is there life a doctors where you live.
We live on a remote island in Alaska. We have a store, but it is very expensive. Food is shipped to the store the same way we sent our stuff home. We do not have a doctor. We have a high level nurse, but no doctor.
Hiya! Very interesting shopping trip. This is the second one of yours I've stumbled across. I'm really into minimalism ( haha just watching not really practicing) but I have some questions/suggestions. Have you thought of a bidet to help you with the TP situation? People were going nuts here when we had shortages! Also maybe powdered detergent is more economical to buy since it isn't filled up with water like the liquid jugs are. Heavier but might last longer?! Do you blanch and freeze your fresh produce to make it last? Does everyone do their shopping like this up there? How do single people manage their shopping? Have you ever done communal shopping and ordered a barge for the village / island?
Why a bidet- use a flannel
We have not considered a bidet. Maybe in the future, but for now we like toilet paper. My mom used to get powered detergent, but its seems pretty similar in price and loads. We have blanched and frozen our garden vegetables, but we go through our fresh stuff fast enough that we don’t need to do that. A lot of people shop like this if they have the ability to. The single people I know still shop in bulk and just don’t have to get quite as much and it lasts longer. Some of them also don’t mind shopping in Kake, since its just them. People a long time ago did order as a group, but its the same cost now on aml if your one person or a big group. It used to be a better shipping deal in the past with larger quantities, but not now.
have you tried the pink box of sure jell it uses less sugar to make jelly and jams
I have not heard of it. Whats it called? Pink box?
It is Sure Jell for Lower Sugar Recipes
We are limited on TP and Paper Towels at out Costco. Did you notice if you all were as well?
It was not like that in July, but I think it is limited now.
Random but your husband looks like Haley J. Osment.
This was very interesting to me. We are living in an RV, moving at least once a week. Therefor, Amazon is not an option for us. Neither is storing things.
So, we do buy/order stuff before we visit our daughters. We fill up their homes with new RV batteries, bikes, chairs etc.
It’s like Xmas every time!
Depending on where you are visiting they have Amazon lockers.
I lived in Vegas and saw them.
Wow, what an adventure you are on. Thats nice you are able to send things to your kids houses.
Hey just wondering 🙂 if you don't mind me asking, how do you pay for all that food and shipping it all back home, that's the government help you out with that stuff, awful lot of money, and shipping it back home 😵💫 not including all the hard work to do it 😵💫 I would done lost my mind 😵💫 I don't even know how to shop for a year, I couldn't even begin to figure it out wow 😵💫 I don't think I'd make it living there, having to take a plane into a city or town, and go through all that just to get food, 0h my 😵💫😵💫 but I have to say you have it down packed, you have it all figured out I guess living there all your life you would 🙂
Hi. We just use our savings. We try to save as much as we can during the year do that way we can pay for these big shops. No government money. Well we do get something called a Permanent Fund Dividend for living in Alaska. It’s supposed to be from the oil money. So you could maybe say that helps pay for it.
I really love your channel, and how transparent you are up front about how much things cost in Alaska..
Can I ask you a question, could you drive to a Walmart or Costco a couple of cities away from where you live, or do you have to go over on a bardge....
We can not drive off of our island. We would have to take a ferry. :)
How did your food not go bad?
We definitely eat food past expiration, but very rarely do we ever end up throwing food away. I don’t really remember ever throwing anything away.
So question about cars. Do you guys ship a car from your home to the mainland or do you leave one on the mainland or do you just borrow/rent. I used to live on Martha’s Vineyard and it was a 45 minute ferry ride and luckily you could take your car (needed a reservation).
We have two cars in Kake and then rent or borrow cars when we travel. Sometimes we will take the car on the ferry, but usually only if we need it to be fixed by a mechanic.
I
How many hours is the flight? Thank you for sharing.
I just found you guys and was impressed with your haul, is it that there is no local supermarket at all in Kake or is it just really expensive and so much more affordable for you to do the bulk shop, the bike and microwave I am guessing you would class as special items and just not have the shops there that sell them, interested to know what your local facilities are like and does everyone do their bulk shopping like you guys
We do have one general store in Kake, but it is very expensive.
I’ve sent things thru the post office almost costing that amount.
Wow, thats wild.
whoop whoop my "like" was #300 lol Yes I'm amused by that. So did you ever try the Can of cream style corn? what were your thoughts??
Very cool. We dis try the corn. It was fine, I did not like the corn was all cut up though. We will probably just stick with regular :)
Sorry if you get this question a lot, but why don’t you guys order groceries online from Amazon or eBay? I have found some sellers that are pretty cheap and include free shipping, wouldn’t that be cheaper than your local stores on things you buy often (cereal, canned goods, pasta, etc.)?
We do order some things. A lot of my Gluten Free food comes from Amazon. We have gotten some things, but not everything will ship to us.
How did you wind up in rural Alaska?
We are both from rural Alaska. Born and raised for generations.
Do you use a bread maker?
I do not, but I do make bread.
And I complain when I have more than a couple of bags of groceries. How long does it take you to plan out what you are going to buy? Do you have a list when you are shopping?
We kind of just have to know what we have. We do write down what we are for sure out of, so we don’t forget those things.
This was filmed in July. Did I see slight snow flakes. 😮😮😮😮😮😮
I don’t think so lol, but you never know.
If you do it once a year isn’t it more practical to do it when the ferry runs?
We do try too, but it just did not work with our travel we where already doing.
I thought your barge costs would have been higher.
Me to!
Great vlog xx wanted ask and this maybe a stupid question so sorry but I'm nosey lol can u get like stuff amazon and eBay online stuff? Or does it cost u mega to get it x I'd love live where u guys r its peaceful and u don't have live in the rat race I live on a small island called Isle of wight it is heaving at mo as we have a festival going to happen the ferries to our island is the most expensive stretch of water in England I think I'm disabled so I don't get out much now but kinda like it when it's so busy xx u do so well and have a beautiful lil gal xx
Hi! We do order from Amazon and ebay. Amazon is usually free shipping, but not everything will ship here. Ebay, you have to be careful when looking, sometimes the shipping will be added later because we are out of there shipping zone or something like that. A festival sounds fun. I hope you can see a little of it. ❤️
How much does each plane trip cost you guys to fly back and forth?! And how many hours is it? Alsoooo lol, is it a company that flies the plane or just someone who lives in your town who wants to help people out?
I feel like I've heard you talk about this before, but don't remember all of those answers, and I'm not sure which video it was so that I could go back to watch it lol
I think the plane is 175 per person, one way. Its around 1 hr. Its a company out of Juneau.
