That feeling when the person that taught you the most about your hair GETS THE SAME HAIRCUT AS YOU and suddenly tutorials are A BILLION TIMES EASIER. Thank you so much
Started my curly hair journey with you 4 years ago. Having Amanda's hair type and length, I followed along with all the steps. No longer a newbie, but I cut a bob yesterday due to hair loss! I'm excited for the journey. Here's to healing and growing, inches of hair too. God bless😊
I have been cutting my curly hair short for like 20 yrs now. Had a few years there of longer hair but chopped it last year again because postpartum hair lost. My curls(hair) always look better short, fine and thin hair. I'm pleased that you cut your hair so i can see a new perspective of how you style. My hair is so fine those brushes you are using just straightens it out. I want volume all the time.
I just know I’m gonna love the new Curlsmith line, Mell used it to style her Seester Amanda’s hair for her Wedding, she wouldn’t use just anything for her ❤
@106andie Hello 👋 I bought Weightless Air Dry Cream... I use this in the shower with first using Marc Anthony's Strictly Curls Shampoo & Conditioner along with the Tangle Teezer Detangling Brush. I Wet Hair First, Then I apply a little of the conditioner so that when using the Tangle Teezer it's not ripping my hair out of my head, where I was losing a lot of hair before by just starting off with the Shampoo first. I then rinse it out and apply the shampoo and rinse and add more of the conditioner and rinse, then apply the Weightless Air Dry Cream, but don't rinse and just squeeze a little to get excess water out, I then twist my medium long hair and apply the Curlsmith Microfiber Hair Towel. PS After using the Tangle Teezer in between each product, I Rake through with my hands, especially when applying the Weightless Air Dry Cream I use the Tangle Teezer squeeze just a bit of excess water and then Rake through and apply the Curlsmith Microfiber Towel. I then give it time to soak in by rinsing off my body, drying myself, and putting things back in the bathroom. Then I apply Marc Anthony's Curl Cream not a lot as it is thick a nickel size works for me, and Rake that, through, apply Marc Anthony's Mousse, Rake again, apply water from my Bottle Mister if needed (depends on your porosity and how fast your hair dries in between products your adding). I get dry hair towards my ends and middle, so I spray the Mister in between products if needed. I then apply, Aveda Replenish Leave In Conditioner and rake and scrunch gently, then I apply Curlsmith Miracle Shield raking and scrunching. At this point, I apply my make-up. Now, it's time to diffuse on medium air to medium heat using the CURLSMITH XXL DIFFUSER. If I'm in a rush or the top of my scalp towards the back, which takes the longest to dry, then in that area I put on the high heat holding my head down and avoiding the ends of my hair with the high heat. Then first, I gently scrunch my hair on medium heat while slightly scrunching, then I flip my hair up and dry just a little more while gently scrunching while my hair is still damp but on the wet side to dry side from side to side. If I notice if my ends are stringy, I apply a little of Marc Anthony's Leave In Conditioner, rubbing product through my hands and scrunching the stringy areas (you always want to rub your products on both your hands and then rake, prayer hands and scrunch gently). You can use the diffuser again for the stringy ends, but I prefer to let it dry on it's own. At this point, I get halfway dressed, leave my Blouse/Shirt off (this gives my hair more time to dry on it's own), and then I apply Marc Anthony's Curl It Up Spray. Apply to your hands rubbing your hands together and apply to your dry hair, wait a few minutes, and turn your head upside down. Take your hands with your fingers onto your scalp and give your hair a shake, then gently scrunch away both upside down and standing up. I have Coils, so to get my sides of my hair fluffy, I gently separate the coils to give fullness, and then I spray hairspray 6 inches away very lightly an quickly once all over my hair before, cause I want to make sure that my hair is set and good to go before I spray very lightly, and I'll just give it a little scrunch on my sides to make sure that my sides doesn't coil and gives it fluff. To give the back fluff I put my head down and gently shake then flip up standing upright and shake your back and sides hair side to side while looking at the ceiling lol 😅 I plan on getting more products from Curlsmith 😊 I just arrived yesterday from Florida to see my Boys 34 & 29, plus get my hair done cause Florida sucks and I went to three Salons and they screwed up my hair and spent over $300, where I can go to my Hairstylist that I've known for a long time and spend $230 including highlights. Then I'll see my main Dr tomorrow as he treats my Lupus and many other things, cause Florida Doctors Suck, cause you only see the main Dr once and then after you get a Physician's Assistant, where in NYC you see your main Dr everytime no PA's!!! 👍🏻😊😡😪 Then after I'll see my younger Son for 3 days and then head to Pennsylvania and see my older Son. We moved to Florida in 2021 and I hate it there, but my Hubby retired and I'm the youngest one in the 55+ Community so I have no friends there, and I can't drive cause I'm disabled with Peripheral Neuropathy in my legs, Double Vision, Seizures, etc. I've been sick for 30yrs now and I'm tired 😢 Anyway, I hope I helped in some way on how to do your hair. I had straight hair all my life and in 2018 my bangs were starting to curl at the beginning of summer and then by Spring of 2019 my hair was completely curly and had no idea what to do with it and thankfully I found Mell's on UA-cam and she has helped me a lot. It's all trial and error ugh 😅 Curly Hair is Actually Harder than Straight Hair 🙄 Take Care and Good Luck ❤🥰😉
New to your channel. 48 and struggle with thin post cancer thin hair for several years (yes survivor! 💪🏽) Definitely going to try this… FYI, your personality is EVERYTHING!! You’re the cutest mamas 🥰
I'm 56 years old and I am still called CUTE more often than anything... Chic, sexy, and the like have never been used to describe me, no matter what my hair looks like! LOL!!! I finally learned to embrace it. I rock cute! LOL!!! Regardless, you look stunning, whether you're rocking the cute or something else. LOVE IT!!!
OMG YESSS to the wet look tutorial!! I have been scouring the internet for YEARS to find a tutorial like this one, so thank you so much for making this!!! Not enough people know that we don’t always want our hair to be a voluminous lions mane. And I think that trying this method on Amanda would also be super helpful for us to see, because I’m not sure if long hair would use the same amount of clips to get the chic look. I swear you are an absolute blessing to the curly hair community, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us !!!
Both are cute and like you said suit a particular occasion, but for a daily look I prefer the cute side. I like curls looking more full, soft and the luminous.
I am loving these styling videos and you look incredible with the short hair. Would love to see more up-dos. I loved having short hair but got bored of it always looking the same.
This was a FANTASTIC video! Doing the side-by-side comparison styling really hit home the point that a curly bob is versatile! Would you please consider doing a video for short hair styling for day 2-4? I’m talking braids, Bobby pins, old school Milabu UA-cam hair tutorials. Would love to see your suggestions!!! Thank you!!
Mel, There are a ton of UA-cam people that are talking about curly hair. BUT, in the end I am watching your channel because you are the most helpful and you are really smart and you are pretty freaking FUN🎉😊🤣😅😆👍Thank you so much and tell Amanda hello.
I’m growing out a pixie from last year, and am ready for my next hairstyle while it grows - I’m thinking I’ll go for a bob! Probably won’t put quite as much effort into my hair, but it’s good to have this in my back pocket! I always feel more confident getting a cut if I know another curly girl figured out the style too.
So I am a new obsessed fan!!!❤❤❤ And I must say, a couple of times I thought you were doing something extra off camera because your hair is phenomenal. But after watching this video, I actually trust you. We have similar hair, and I'm absolutely learning from you. I get different results because I have dense, fine, curly hair. I just have to use less amount of each product. Thank you so much for your content. You teeaching how to do this at home is a blessing and highly appreciated appreciated 🙏 ❤❤
You simply changed my way of thinking about myself and thought me to love my hair as it is naturally With you I discovered my hair was waaaaay different than I always thought Thanks for all the “training” these years Please please please share your knowledge on short curly hair that would be awesome!!! 😊 Thanks!!
Obsesseddddd! I love my short curly hair but never know what to do with it aside from just a wash and go! So I’m LOVING these videos with the new hair!!! Stunning!🤩
Hi, I want to start styling my wavy hair but the waves only seem to stay on the top layer of my hair. The hairs underneath are straight and no matter how many or what kind of product i use they stay straight. Any tips on how to handle this?
Oh I relate to this! When I worked years ago , I had a theory that curly haired people find it more difficult to get respect and be taken seriously. Something about the cute curls is infantilising in their eyes. Anyone else found this? When I wore my hair straightened, I got very different vibes, this was the 89s and power shoulders etc were in- on straight days, a path would clear before me..
This is so true! I get so many more looks when i have a straight blow dry rather than wearing my natural curls, it is almost like people take you seriously with straight hair.
I can only agree -thank you for pointing that out!- and I find it sad. Take a look... how many natural coily/curly hair woman straighten their beautiful hair- especially in politics? A lot. And a designer once said that curly girls need to make at least "some styling" to the curls, so they look "put together" where as straight hair girls make a messy bun in a sec and that's it.
Mell! Love the new look. I would love to know how you're doing sleep protection these days. Recently cut my hair shorter, and my old tricks don't work.
I have been following you for years and have learned so much! As a short hair curl gal myself, I’m beyond excited to see your techniques for your new hairstyle!!
I have been following your vlog's since I started my curly hair journey over 2 years ago and have learned a lot! Today I used the Aveda shampoo, light conditioner, mousse and gel. Although, I'm not sure about the shampoo and conditioner, the mousse and gel were fantastic! My hair had volume and shine! I air dried and the drying time was cut in half. Thank you for always bringing new products and techniques to my attention!
I like them both Mell. You are not only cute but very pretty. Your curls are very becoming. Thanks for doing this video. As a curly natural it gives me good ideas how to style my own curls.
Thank you for sharing. I recently chopped of 3 inches off my hair so I can have bouncy curls, and I can't remember the last time I had short short hair. Feeling very self conscious about it, but videos like yours help me embrace short curly hair ❤❤❤
I too regretted getting my hair cut into a curly bob...i liked it for about 2 weeks and then regretted it and missed my longer curly hair. I actually found it was ALOT more work and had to wash my hair more frequently as i would get wonky curls. Made me late for work many times! lol. Also, my longer hair i cut it like twice a year - nope with shorter was more like 2 months or it would start to look odd. Bob is nice but it can be a pain when you want to just put it in a ponytail and not think about it - especially in the summer or when you are busy at work or housework. Also working out i find is easier to be able to put my hair into a ponytail/bun. So now i have collarbone/mid back/bra length which i found is best for my 2c3a curl formation. I guess it comes down to what your lifestyle is and what suits you best. I think it is very important to have a detailed hair consult before deciding on the big chop! You do look cutely chic though!! Suits your sassy personality too.
Great tutorial, thanks Mel! I'm a week late, I know... I really need you to tell us what your new short hair nighttime routine is like, and, AND, what refreshing on a non-wash day is like for you now! PLEASE!
Mel, your hair is beautiful worn both ways. Question, can you give us a tutorial of how you cut your hair short. My hair is thinning out badly and it is hard to style without having lots of my scalp showing. I have been thinking of going shorter and love your haircut. Thank you for all the information and time you provide to us curly girls and curly men.
This was incredibly helpful, thank you!! I’ve been trying to decide how to style my short curls and this was so clear and concise. Especially showing how you section it. I prefer the “cute” look because I’m in a place with very low humidity which makes for super flat hair. Both look beautiful on you
Mell! I have LOVED this style for forever but never been brave enough to cut it! My curls are not as tight as yours, so I am not sure how it would look.... but I SO want to try it! Thanks for all the tutorials ❤
OMG, thank you Mell! My hair got cut this morning, close to your length and cut. I agree, there's a time and place for both. My stylist likes to do the "cute" look for drying. When I style myself at home, I go for more of the "chic" vibe.
Love this! And you! I cut my hair this length almost a year ago so these styling tutorials are fantastic. While you totally rock both looks, at this stage in my life (60 yikes) I'll happily take "cute". More please
I can’t wait to get my hands on the new curlsmith anti frizz line. You styling Amanda’s hair with the product line was my first time seeing it. Curlsmith never disappoints.
Someone on Reddit recommend that I look u up here and I'm so glad I did! TYSM 4 sharing your knowledge of curly hair! I have such a hard time with frizz, I def need to get some product cause I don't use any rn. Thx 4 the tips!
Thank you bc I'm planning on getting my first curly cut to have more volume but I was kinda stressed about how to style it to achieve what I want but I think this video will really help me 😊
I love them both! The chic side is definitely more formal of a look. The voluminous side is more sassy and spicy. You have such a beautiful face, every style suits you! ❤
This is great! I just cut 2/3 of my hair off on Tuesday. I am going to try the elevated look next wash day. My curls are not as tight as yours though but we'll see how it turns out.
Could you please do refresh video on short hair like yours? maybe new night routine? I know you mentioned you just leave it as it is under the bonnet but still... how does it not squish? Also, you're rocking both styles
So I have a curly pixie and I'd been considering growing it out into a bob, and after seeing your new look, I really want to. A little worried about the transition from my undercut, though. So I'm looking forward to more short hair videos. All that said! I just worked out, and I remember your older video about putting longer hair into a pineapple, but how do you protect it at this new length? Mine is still short enough that it's not a concern yet, but I'm looking forward to that with a bit of trepidation. Thanks so much for these videos! I wore my hair straight for years despite having natural curls, but I'm loving having curls again, especially with these new tips.
I like both sides equally, it’s so awesome you get some variety with this length. I’ve just booked my short curly cut for November 2 and I’m so excited to join the curly bob club!! ❤❤❤
Love them both Mel!! This cut on you has been a total SLAYYYYY ! No really your new cut looks FANTASTIC however youre wearing it styled!! Thx for sharing chica I swear you have the absolute best content for hair care- not just us curly's out here but literally anyone who watches will take away a piece of your knowledge and put it to good use!!💜💙✨️
Mel you’re the best!!! I have my hair the exact same length as you now and this video is PERFECT! I love the baddie look I haven’t try a look like that before so this tutorial will help me 🤩🫶🏻
Hi Mel, luv all ur vids - they've all helped me tons! I have a question - can everything you've talked about concerning products be translated to natural versions of those products? Not products with natural ingredients in them, but natural products, products with ONLY natural ingredients, like honey or aloe vera gel for instance. Not necessarily diys, but if I bought a handmade conditioner from Etsy a seller made themselves for example instead of the drugstore. Basically, can I still get the nutrients and results using these kinds of products instead. Can I use regular ol' olive or some other oil to seal my hair instead of the Curlsmith bonding oil; can I do a protein mask using an egg instead of something store bought. Things like that. Just want to say though, I'm not scared to buy something from the store or think all products with a chemical in them are bad, but I'd personally like to use more, not necessarily none, natural than "unnatural" products as much as possible. Thanks for any replies :)
As a curly girl with short, thinner hair, I would love some advice on how to fix my hair. I have kind of medium to coarse hair, but it's thinner because of age. I'm a 2C/3A and just get sooo frustrated some days!
Curly hair bob girl here, I love yours! both your chic and cute styles 🩷 so pretty. I wish you lived in northern Ca so you could cut and color my hair 😭😢 And yes! More hair tutorials for short hair please!
Wow, the makeup compliments each of the hairstyles so well! I went too light on my products this week and my hair is “beyond cute” 🤣 So. Much. Frizz. (Love how your brother ignores you in the bloopers 🤣)
Girl! 😂 Seeing how 🔥 your bob looks really has me wanting/considering chopping all my hair off too! Argh, it's so cute, sorry! I just love your cut 💖 I like both styles, and you're right. They both have their time and place.
Thanks Mell...my curls are 56 years old and I think in a few more years I will be bobbing it up as well. Lower maintenance for sure...thanks for these tips. Love your channel ❤
I love the Chic side because I'm a new mommy growing out my pixie. So my length is a little shorter than yours but new mom vibes and turned 30 in March is bringing out a more Chic style/vibe for me. I love both, like you said, it just depends on the day and time. keep these short videos coming
Love your hair. It is a similar style to mine. My bangs won’t stay to the side or if a middle part the sides. How do you make yours stay? Do you do anything at night for sleeping?
I just also got a curly bob and I love it and all your advice here… I was wondering though if you’ve done any videos on transitioning to gray hair? I just decided to stop coloring my roots every month and to let the gray grow out, but I’ve noticed a drastic change in texture and body, my roots are flat and I’m afraid my curl pattern is going to drastically be changing… any advice for your more “mature” 😉viewers on the transition process?
As a stylist who has watched clients go through this, color definitely adds body to our hair the transition is hard and their are trade offs. You need to be committed to the freedom of lower maintenance their are steps to remove color but it can be fairly costly. Ask your stylist about products for body and frizz control.
Beautiful!! And you are right, there's a time and place for each style. I used to be a free spirit style but for special occasions take the time for the chic😊
I wouldn't get bent out of shape when people call you cute. They aren't infantilizing you. A lot of people just mean fun when they say cute. Attractive in a fun, sassy way. Cute!
I just cut my curly hair into a bob and I do a little bit of a side part, but I find that when I’m brushing once it’s dry the top of my hair dries as a slope. The point is a while ago I remember watching a video where you taught us how to use a brush on curly hair where depending on the angle you brushed the hair would lay differently. Do you still have this video?
I loved this thank you!!! I just cut my hair the same length and it’s been in a half up half down I have no idea what else to do pls pls do some more hairstyles I beggg
i am OBSESSED with this video. thank you for putting in the time and effort, truly. i just chopped my hair thanks to YOU and will definitely be trying both. xo
That feeling when the person that taught you the most about your hair GETS THE SAME HAIRCUT AS YOU and suddenly tutorials are A BILLION TIMES EASIER. Thank you so much
Plus there isn’t a lot of informative short curly hair content so I’m glad to add Mel to the mix.

Cute, chic...no matter how you style it, your curls are simply gorgeous!
Thank you Mel for showing us how chique short hair can be.
Yes! Finally some short hair looks. Thanks for the tips. Will definitely try them out. Very informative. Thanks!

I totally agree. It’s about time. Nothing against long hair but not it’s all of us. 😀

Happy Texture Thursday!! Very shabby chic French vibes love it!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
I like both but the cute side is so so cute. ❤
This was incredibly helpful, thank you!! I’ve been trying to decide how to style my short curls and this was so clear and concise. Especially showing how you section it.
I prefer the “cute” look because I’m in a place with very low humidity which makes for super flat hair. Both look beautiful on you
Both of these looks are amazing and you wear them perfectly!
Just got a curly bob haircut this morning ❤so glad I found your channel. Thank you!!!!
Love this!
I’ve been waiting for this since my hair is about your length. I’m still on my curly hair journey and figuring out all the things about my hair.
I’ve watched so many of your videos in the past few days, you explain things so well!
Could you please do refresh video on short hair like yours? maybe new night routine? I know you mentioned you just leave it as it is under the bonnet but still... how does it not squish? Also, you're rocking both styles
I recently go my hair cut in a similar shape, and appreciate the guidance.
I just love the versatility of our hair, bitter are gorgeous
Please do more short curly hair styling tips & tricks!
I like both sides equally, it’s so awesome you get some variety with this length. I’ve just booked my short curly cut for November 2 and I’m so excited to join the curly bob club!! ❤❤❤
Thanks for showing how to do style shorter hair.
I love both sides!
❤🎉
Been waiting for a hair styling video to try out ! and I love the bob on youse! 🥰😍
I love that you dont just show us you explain WHY for everythinggg!! ❤
You rock those curls! It doesn't matter the length, the curl type. It's just how you do it.
Same here. There’s not enough tutorials for women with our hair type.
Curly hair bob girl here, I love yours! both your chic and cute styles 🩷 so pretty. I wish you lived in northern Ca so you could cut and color my hair 😭😢
And yes! More hair tutorials for short hair please!
Wow, the makeup compliments each of the hairstyles so well! I went too light on my products this week and my hair is “beyond cute” 🤣 So. Much. Frizz. (Love how your brother ignores you in the bloopers 🤣)
You hair looks SO GREAT short like that!!!! Wow
Love this! Fingers crossed that there will be a tutorial for how to DIY cut a curly bob :)
curly har bob girl, too! Loving the short curls tips🥰
You look adorable, but also so fierce! Darn it, time to think about cutting my hair again. Thanks for showing the versatility!
There is no picking, both are GIVING
Cute!
That’s coz u r not her. But I’m sure she is also joking ..
they both look nice.. i got frustrated and chopped off my hair, learned a lot from your channel..
Definitely want to go for a bob next hair cut😊
Always team volume!
Thank you!! Love these styles. I’m getting my short cut next week.
I loved this thank you!!! I just cut my hair the same length and it’s been in a half up half down I have no idea what else to do pls pls do some more hairstyles I beggg
I AGREE PLEEEEEEASE!!!!!
i am OBSESSED with this video. thank you for putting in the time and effort, truly. i just chopped my hair thanks to YOU and will definitely be trying both. xo
LOVE LOVE LOVE your new style!!!!
Love your new haircut!!!! ❤
love how your makeup has been lately
You look amazing with both styles!! 😊❤
Love this new cut!! I would love to see you style this cut on wavy hair, 2a-c!!
I really love the cute side, it’s beautiful ❤
I am loving your short hair!! Just got mine cut (or should I say butchered) and my curl pattern is ruined. Mell, I need you in my life!! ❤❤
The last person who butchered my hair actually took a razor to it. So many stylists have no clue how to cut curly hair.
@@cynthiasivak5689 Amen, Sister! Don't they teach that in beauty school??
@@melindat5711 Apparently they aren't. ☹
Loving both sides but I LOVE volume.
Both looks are amazing!!!
This was so helpful, thank you, I love all of the specific details and explanations, thank you Mell 😊
Guess...
I
Got
my
hair
Cut😅
And I am following you up and learning how to do. I have been on your wagon since D' pandemic 2020.
Thanks
Doris 🇵🇷🙏❤️
I love the cute side sooooo much😍😍😍
Chic both ways and gorgeous always!
