She literally barley adds anything, face shapes can be very distracting, and hair should be matched with your whole body structure in general. for example short hair for someone with a big stracture can look very unbalanced and make the body look even bigger, instead Full long hair can make it look better or even minimize it, it’s not always about the face shape.

Finally! Someone who actually knows what she is talking about when it comes to hairstyle shapes. I’ve been a hairdresser for 30 years and have never seen a video that has correct information when it comes to face shapes and the most flattering hairstyles for those face shapes. Great job! Everyone listen to this and you will never have to wonder what shape haircut to get again. Also, straight long hair around the face, without layers, is very aging, once your skin begins to sag.

@@ManesByMell I’m a recent breast cancer patient who had to have intense chemo. Before chemo my hair was very long, fine hair (and I had a ton of it! - it was generally straight although I was told I had wave at the nape of my neck. When it dried on its own it was a little frizzy, was really heavy and generally boring) Weirdly my hair is growing back in with quite a wave (it’s about 1.5 to 2 inches long now) given the massive change in hair type I’m totally flustered on what to do with it and what cut to get as it’s growing. I watched a video by Amanda where she recommended Zero products (I’ve bought them and I’ve started using them) and I’m shocked at how curly/wavy my hair is now when I use all 5 products. I get a starting number of compliments from people on how my hair looks (which is really nice) and I think I have the right products... but my question remains - how do I go from a head of 2 inch curls to something that will suit me in the future? Based on the video I just watched My hair is: fine ( I have a ton of it so I believe it’s also considered thick), I have an oval face and flat profile. I know reaching out to ask about this is a long shot but I’m hoping you can provide suggestions... your loyal fan Deb

Hi Mell! Firstly I just want to thank you! Thanks to you I have completely transformed my curls! A year ago I was totally clueless about my hair, always envying my mom's beautiful curls and never wearing my frizzy hair down. Like ever. I have learned so much from you and have grown to not only love my curls but have become a curly consultant for my friends. Thank you!
I also have been cutting my own hair from before I started understanding my curls and I would really appreciate some advice on the topic. The top layer of my hair is the curliest, 3A/3B (depending on styling usually). The bottom layer is wavy, it ranges from 2C to 2A! I usually cut the top layer of my hair quite layered and then leave the bottom a more uniform length, sometimes I even cut some of the bottom layers shorter because they have less shrinkage. Basically, every time I cut my hair I have to decide if I'd rather have more of a shape or make the layers of my hair look cohesive. My hair is mid-length but my face is oblong so I don't know if I should grow it out (which might help improve the shape vs hiding-the-straight-looking-part dilemma). I highly doubt you will answer my essay but I would really appreciate your advice on what to do. THANK YOU!!

My recommendation is to compare the prominent features of your face to the types listed in the video and apply those instead of following the tips for just one shape. For my face my cheekbones and my forehead are the most prominent, so to highlight them I used tips from both diamond and heart. Hope this helps!

I brush my thin bangs to the side, with a slight side part. I really need help finding a style that will give me some height since I am 5 foot 2., but I am thin on top front and back. PLEASE HELP ME. Thank you.

I'm stuck somewhere between an oval and square. I quite like the shape but the features themselves are quite un-appealing. So hair can't do anything for them on one hand, on the other I've tried a lot of haircuts and liked them all visually (even thought a lot of them are very unpractical so its bun-appropriate length again)

This video just helped me make sense of why I also prefer to wear my glasses with certain styles and rock contacts with others. I've chosen my glasses to give me a more balanced face, so a certain hairstyle can throw that balance right back off. Couple that with the fact that certain necklines make my chin look sharper than it is, and I'm starting to understand why I spend so much time pairing a neckline, with a hairstyle, with glasses. 😂

Very very helpful. I desperately need a DIY hair cut for heart shaped face, fine, wavy hair, born blonde that has darkened with age. I'm in my fabulous fifties. 😍
It's been five years since my hair has been cut!😱
I do not use heat all at and wash about every 2 weeks. I went so long because I've been in a medically ordered quarantine.
Now I just HAVE to cut it! I can't take it anymore. It's far too long, split and dried out for several inches on the ends. I'm ready to take a foot at least off it, and I have to do it myself.
I know there are techniques to do this myself for the style you have so graciously helped me figure out would suit me best and are very easy care for. For me....heart shaped face, thin hair( but a lot of it), and wavy. It is straighter in the front and more wavy in the back. Curly at the very back. Also known as beach wave.
So, I'm on the hunt now in your playlist how to best achieve a DIY shoulder length blunt cut with very slight layers at the bottom. I would like a bang to cover a scar on my forehead from fighting ongoing malignant melanoma skin cancer. This is a very visible scar I would like
to disguise and not undergo more surgeries for plastic surgery to correct. I will avoid any unnecessary surgeries that aren't life saving.
I am NOT licensed stylist, however I have cut hair since I was teenager for neighbor kids of single moms, friends, family, grand children, and my own some.
If you have suggestions on videos you you playlist that would suit me, and would be willing to link them in a reply I would incredibly grateful.

I got my first haircut when I was 11 years old and it took forever for them to cut and didn't even look good in the end.... ever since I've been messing around with the lengths at the salon but they never could seem to get my cuts quite right so because of quarantine I just decided "hey, I'll just try it out myself" so now I'm here :')
It's grown out quite a bit so I have plenty to work with and mess up as much as I want since in the end I'm thinking of going for a shorter look anyhow. This was really helpful for me! I cut my great-grandma's hair today and it turned out really nice so now that I know that I'm capable of cutting hair it's just a matter of figuring out what I want for my own

    Wonderful video!
Because I have very thick hair, the hairdressers are unable to cut it in layers and they do not want to admit that they lack the knowledge to do it and do not take into account my face shape and my lifestyle.
So I've stopped cutting my long hair at the salon. The last two times I came out with two hairstyles rather than one and many hundreds of kroner poorer. (Living in Sweden)
Thanks to UA-cam, I have learned how to cut my own hair the way I want it to look and which hairstyle suits my face shape. I maintain my style by cutting a few millimeters every week. Last time I cut my bangs and I got so much praise from those around me that I decided never to go to a salon again.

This was really really helpful. I now get why some cuts I've gotten just didn't work in the past, based on my face shape at the time, which has changed over time (hello Freshman 15 and COVID 15) I know what to avoid in the future and how to work with what I got. Can never thank you enough. You are my dream hairstylist! And it would be a dream come true to have a consultation with you one day! You are super talented, funny and just all around awesome. Please don't stop doing your vids!

@Joe Castiglione... if the hair is curly, it isn't wavy. wavy and curly hair are dramatically different. if someone has flat roots, and the rest of the hair is curly, it probably means they're doing something wrong in their hair care routine. perhaps stretching out the pattern by brushing or overloading with product, or even just having long, heavy hair that pulls the pattern out
I have defined ringlets from my eyes down, but above that it's straight. my hair is definitely not wavy. I've been neglecting haircuts for years, so that's probably why the area around my roots is weighted down and straight

    • @Hookzyne
      @Hookzyne 3 роки тому

@Joe Castiglione No it can actually be curly, for exemple, I have straight hair at the roots, then wavy, then 3B curls

This has nothing to do with this specific video but I watch your videos ALL the time as you know that transitioning takes a LOT of research. WELL the other day I was shopping with my bf and was pumped to see that Bluemercury sells the brand Seen with the fragrance free options you had reviewed so in excitement I said “Omg they have the brand one of the girls I watch reviewed!” And without skipping a beat he said “Your mane girl Mel?”
Just thought y’all would appreciate the fact that you’re now a curly household name ❤️

Mell! Omg where have you been my whole life?! I have been on the STRUGGLE bus trying to manage my fine wavy hair on my asymmetrical heart shaped face. I finally did a shorter bang cut and realized all the other hairstyles I’ve ever tried (most of them being nightmares) were not for me at all but that took a lot of trial and error throughout the years and a lot of bathroom tears. Thanks so much for making this video as I am on a new journey where I have to leave my tried and true curly hair stylist behind and learn how to cut my own hair as I country hop across South America. Today I am going to try to cut my own hair and due to your tips I’m going to stick with a medium/short style and try to keep my bangs but make them more curtain-y. About to go watch your curtain bangs video now. Wish me luck 😅
