I LOVE that sterling silver rope necklace with the toggle clasp. It's gorgeous. I noticed you were talking about gold plated and gold filled pieces of jewellery, and gold plated jewellery is made from a base metal, like pewter or brass, and then it's coated with a thin layer of gold. However, gold filled jewellery is made from gold, but it's hollow inside, and it's filled with another metal that's not as expensive as gold, often copper is used to fill the hollow gold components. So, gold filled jewellery is far more valuable than gold plated jewellery, because it's actually made of gold,so the gold can't wear off, like it can with plated stuff. I make jewellery myself and the gold plated components I buy are much cheaper than the gold filled ones. For example, a small gold filled clasp costs about $12 - $14, while a plated clasp can cost as little as $2.00 or less. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia P.S. The prices I quoted were the Australian prices. In America, the prices would be cheaper, but still comparable in terms of gold filled vs gold plated 🤗❤❤❤
I agree, that interesting rope lookIng necklace that was very thick, yet very pliable and movable. Hi saw some thing online with some sort of tutorial as well as interesting videos on UA-cam regarding the ancient arts and it’s possible it could be a byzantine design.
The watch you took apart is upper level and indeed a perfect example of Art Deco. Never, ever touch the dial! It is the most delicate part of any watch.
Hi, I am a newbie. Been watching videos of other people and I have to tell you - yours? FABULOUS!! A step above the rest!! You should be proud of yourself!! I hope to get as smart as you are in this field. I’m really excited. I was taking notes, had to keep pausing the video. Thank you so much for sharing, I really appreciate it. Wish me luck!
I enjoyed your knowledge and passion for jewelry, I work for a thrift store and I buy a lot of jewelry that I sell to local people looking for certain items, you’re show was great, thanks again
The silver broach is Scottish and the ‘fruits’ are thistle’s which is there national flower , love the sterling silver rope necklace, probably Indian vintage, fabulous finds 👏🏼🙏🏼✌🏻
Hi Rusty - I just discovered your channel when I watched a couple of your other videos, and I wanted to thank you for sharing the information your experiences have taught you - I am finding it so helpful that I subscribed to your channel just now. I live in Silicon Valley and until I retired, I was an independent broker of used Hi-Tech Vacuum equipment in the Semiconductor manufacturing industry. I had learned that because hi-tech vacuum equipment is so expensive to purchase new that some companies prefer to buy used equipment, repair it, then use it. For example, some of the equipment used in the field of Cryogenics are big "vats" in which the main critical component is a sealing flange that must be precise - but this one company had a machinist on staff who was really skilled in resurfacing the flange to the necessary tolerances, so they could acquire a used vat for a pittance of what a new one would cost; resurface the flange; and the equipment would be up to spec. Any kind of equipment in the hi-tech semiconductor industry costs a lot of money, and I'm not talking just hundreds of dollars. In my own small way, I helped them re-use precision equipment rather than it getting scrapped. My moral compass believes that the workmanship that goes into creating such precision equipment must be valued instead of scrapped. Now I'm learning about other used stuff from you! Thank you for sharing with us all here on UA-cam, Rusty.
Numbers that are not 925 could come from other countries, and be equivalent to. It is better to look up the number and mark and get a b tree understanding of what you have🥰
Well well. I don't know how youtube knew I'd be interested in jewelry as I don't search for or buy it online or elsewhere actually, but one of your channels came up and now I'm a new subbie on two channels. Fabulous information. Thanks!
Hello, thanks for posting this. It was very interesting! At timestamp 13:28 you show a brooch that appears to have Celtic symbols, as well as what you thought was fruit….. I thought you’d like to know that those symbols that you thought were “fruit “are thistles it’s a symbol from Scotland. You should conduct some thorough research regarding that piece ;)
Fantastic finds, great items to teach, you are the greatest. I know this vid is 9 months ago, but when I saw the silver items at the end, I immediately thought of Dawn of Hudson Vintage Jewelry, she's also on you tube, I bet she might be able to get you some info on the artist, she is a great resource for sure. Good luck hunting.
You did good on all your finds, I hope you make good money on the last two pieces of Silver your found. Yes you have to look very good on the items you find for the markings, I didn't know that 800 is S. Silver, thank you, and I didn't know not to polish vintage Silver. I'm learning from you. Thank you.
I inherited 2 spoons that had Rolex on them, took them into a Rolex store in the mall. Turns out they used to give them away as a small gift when someone purchased a Rolex watch. They are not selling for much.
Great video. I've always thought that gold filled and gold plated had little value. Did not know that gold filled was better. If you wanted to sell this kind of thing, how would you go about it? Can the gold be retrieved? Do you try to find someone who can process such things, or just put it out there on eBay or someplace like that?
I also have watches that are very old, I’m guessing from early 1900’s. They are so tiny I’d be afraid to take them apart. I don’t know where I would take these items or if I should post them online. What would you suggest I do to sell the jewelry and watches I have?
Would love to learn about my parents era born in 1920’s the women would collect they believe sterling silver cutlery set in carved wood box. But the backs say stainless, was told worth thousands
I noticed china selling pieces they say is sterling silver. I buy it and it turns green. Do chinese have a cluse what 925 means? I often find 925S" what does the S mean?
Hi Rusty, I got a gold pendant "444" very cool, chain magnatizes, but the "444" doesn't! Should I have it checked? I'm new to this, so only have magnet and magnifying glass. Could you do a video about testing gold without the kit?
The 2 pieces of silver at the end, the tarnished ones... call me crazy but if you flipped it up on the side where the "leaf stem" curves outward, would it not then look like a Koi fish or gold fish of some sort? Idk? Other than that I had so hoped you would show off the silver tennis bracelet I saw in the upper left corner in the start of your video. I have been in the market for another one myself, I've had several, I love them, but evidently someone came along and loved them more, each and every one along the way. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge, you've taught me several things in only a few videos already!!
Note...that gold ring with diamind chips...a pawn shot will only pay weight if tge gold..nothing fir diamind chips. Wheigh it. Look uo gold prece. U will inly get 30% of what its worth.
Myself, I find that other people's jewellery, coins, glass ware, pretty much everything ....is valuable and expensive. Mine cost me to have it hauled off to the dump. On coins mine is always the wrong mint, date, etc and if I am lucky it will be of face value. I find a coin that is valued to be worth something, is only good if I find somebody else that will be willing to buy it. Pretty much goes for most my other stuff too. If I was hunting for opossum feces, I wouldn't even get a hackberry. God just looks at me and says "Boy, your loved, but your plight in life is to be poor. Just be happy your loved and stop wasting your money on Lotto, and other people's stuff, because once it's yours, it becomes worthless."
Don’t know where you got the shoe and ugly thing, but the Funky Pickle featured those 2 items some time ago. She from you or you from her? LOL Great video Rusty
The "celtic" pin with the three pointed knot is called a Triquetra. The "fruit" is actually a thistle; the national flower of Scotland.
I was just coming here to say that 😊
When I heard 'fruit' 🙈
Me too, coming in here to make this exact comment, Scotch Thistle!!!
Very nice to know 🤔 thank you

Goldfilled scrap is worth more than sterling silver. 40 grams is worth about 1 gram of pure gold.
Very good information. Thank you 😊
@@danieldambrosio50 Wow!! I had no clue!!!
@@annholland51 yea Google goldfilled scrap calculator. Yw.
The watch you took apart is upper level and indeed a perfect example of Art Deco.

Sincerely, thank you for all the kind words. We are glad this stuff can help!
You’re a gent helping others to learn, thank you from Scotland!
Glad to help. Thanks for watching!
That gold building in the middle of that brooch is very like the Parthenon at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
I'm surprised that he didn't know.
I enjoyed your knowledge and passion for jewelry, I work for a thrift store and I buy a lot of jewelry that I sell to local people looking for certain items, you’re show was great, thanks again
That heavy intricate necklace with toggle clasp is byzantine design.
Loving learning about these jewelry pieces.
The silver broach is Scottish and the ‘fruits’ are thistle’s which is there national flower , love the sterling silver rope necklace, probably Indian vintage, fabulous finds 👏🏼🙏🏼✌🏻
Great info. Thanks!
I caught that myself....I would have purchased that in a hot second!
I was going to comment on the thistle's too. They are a beautiful purple color. The thistle is also shown in England.. I think a coin has it featured.
It's a Balinese necklace

The building on the rectangular broach is Greek I believe the Pantheon in Athens . Thanks a ton of gold!!!😊
Love your videos Rusty - they are great and very informative. Had a chuckle at 'fruit' - it is a Scottish Thistle💙
This was exactly what I was looking for, and I learned a lot. Thank you!

The 'pocket' knife may have been from a chatelaine set.
thanks for the video good sir. now i have something else to hunt for both my ebay and myself.
Some pieces not marked can be $100.00 of dollars to thousands. Get a book cause it is so much easier. Take to a profession if you aren't sure
The celtic knot peice is scottish. The "friut"is avtually a scottish thistle. Thanks for teaching me about hallmarks.

The temple at 11:20 is the Parthenon. The "fruits" at 13:30 are thistle flowers, the emblem of Scotland.
I literally did sell the shirt off my back. I was wearing it and sold on ebay.
> Pigeon Picker Ha, ha, ha, ha! I believe you, and great comedy relief of true but funny!
That 24 gold plated bangle magnetic bangle. Used for keeping the blood healthy.n those rubies in that watch would be real. Not lab created
Rusty, these videos are awesome! Thank you!
Thank you. Lovely pieces❤
I had a watch just like the marcasite watch. It was 1 of hundreds of items stolen when my house was burglarized.
