@@liamshearer183 if you’re talking about when it starts, it won’t have much direction to it because it’s happening at the end of the backswing. As the DS progresses, it’ll be pulled in towards the target some by pelvis rotation.

We did. We added some more knee bend so he didn't have to be so bent over with his upper body. I just tried the link, it work straight away. Did you click on the green button below the video?
Quick question! I get that we need to lower our arms under the shoulder plane, but Is there any limit for how low your arm can lower? can it go too low early in the swing?
Thanks so much for the video. I've worked on improving my position at the top and was struggling with consistency. I felt like I had to be "close", but I would hit pulls with swings that felt very good. I started working on keeping my hands "behind my right shoulder" and I became much more consistent.
@@howardphillips8513 great question. It starts as re-centering is happening so weight is back to the middle. It will be left by lead-arm parallel in the DS.
Does the swing you show and teach here require the left or lead wrist to be bent in flexion (bowed) at the top of the backswing, or can the advice you are giving about lowering the right arm also work for someone with a backswing where the hands are high, the shaft is in a more vertical position and even a bit across the line at the top, thus with a bit more of a flying right elbow, and the left wrist appears to be somewhat cupped at the top, although it is not cupped but simply retains the natural slight extension flex that both wrists are in at address? Basically al la Taylor Pendrith. A video of his swing certainly seems to show that while his backswing begins with the club head quite far out and loops up to vertical and across the line at the top, with flying right elbow, he does bring his right elbow down sharply, with hands behind his right shoulder. He seems different than any of the pros whose avatars you show here. Could you place the lines you show over a video of his swing? Would be very interesting to know if they are the same as other pros despite the different looking moves.
Am I correct in saying that in the main pro's open their hips less than am's in the backswing but have more chest turn? If so, would quieting down the leg action help consistency?
Does fixing the pulls like you have shown improve the release as well? Long time pull hooker where I don't ever feel I can release the club properly. Looks a lot like Jeff's follow through in his original video. Hit balls today with the thought of lowering my arms as shown and not only did I hit it better, but I felt like I was releasing the club more properly instead of kind of holding on to it.
when i try to implement that movement of the trail knee, like when you pushed his knee forward at the top of his swing, it makes my hips spin out too quick and leaves no room for my arms, trying to work on lowering the arms properly while also adding trail knee flex, just curious if this is a common issue you see
@@jmag-kq9nl a couple thoughts for clarity 🙂… 1. No one can implement a new movement without first repping it to the point it happens. 2. 5-8 degrees of knee bend will not cause the hip to spin out. BUT trying to do/feel something new/different at full speed could. See point #1 😉 3. If the upper arm isn’t re-connecting/lowering, you’ll be penalized for moving the lower body better. That’s why we detailed the sequence of Jeff’s issues. 4. Yes, trying to add rotation to a swing with out-of-position arms/club is one of the most common issues we see.
@@derekmitchell6083 gotcha! Yeah make sure your club’s in a place where you would benefit from being more open, then work on the drills we gave Jeff to do at home👍
With the last swing, at the top of his backswing, I noticed his left shoulder seems a lot more under his chin. More similar to all the pro images. Before the swing changes, his left arm was pretty much covering his entire face, including his nose. That makes it a lot harder to keep the hands back at the turn.
@@Dwu0nbUrYky5yr4U5FA that has more to do with the graphics of the avatar itself. His left shoulder wasn’t covering his face in any of his swings. The GEARS avatar is the best, but it’s still an avatar 🤓
I'm confused. The 2 things you gave him related to the downswing. How did this get him into a better position at the top? Obviously I've missed something.
It happened automatically. Having the feeling of getting the hands under your shoulder will make you bring them deeper at the top. If your hands are high and in front of your shoulder at the top, you can't get them underneath on the way down. This was how I interpreted it.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I was hoping this was correct, I plan to try this with my daughter (she's 13). Her coach tells me she needs her hands deeper and not so high at the top, we can't figure out how to get her there. Using the feeling of "skipping a rock" has helped get her hands down and around more but as I look at her videos, she is still over her shoulder. Hopefully this will be the key to getting her hands back a little more. I already watched the drills. Wish I could afford to get her to your studio near us, I think it would do wonders for her.
So this guy is exactly me but gets it around in 10 fewer strokes 😂 Question: was adding rotation specifically to help the pulls? Generally what are the benefits to more rotation, if it’s not always going to help one’s performance (based on other things going on in the swing)
Getting his hand to work under his shoulder, thereby keeping some depth deeper into his downswing stopped his pulls. That then allowed him to get more open which helps with consistency.
Okay thanks. So getting more open at impact IS a good thing to work to add into your swing to aid with consistency, but have to arrange those other pieces to make sure you can get it?
ever think about collaborating with some youtube golfers? Jerome Rufin has had tons of pro level coaching and I think a few lessons with you guys would do more than a year of random lessons and a testimony to your method!
@@AthleticMotionGolf I look at his swing and despite a year of lessons, he still struggles with something you guys could probably identify and point him in the right direction in 1 session. lol.
Good video! Only problem I have is, pushing the right knee out during the downswing seems to push my swing path, causing a heal shot. Anyone else expedience this...maybe I'm pushing my knee out too much!
@@AthleticMotionGolf thanks! For me, it's tough to understand the best way to get this done. By pulling the front hip open, thus the back leg/knee must react, or pushing from the back leg. Any suggestions?
Can anybody explain “get hands work under the shoulder plane?…does it basically mean try to get hands under the right shoulder at start of downswing?…dont want to misinterpret that concept like i tend to do when i want to introduce a new feel to my swing…😅….many thanks…
and what direction is that knee bend in the trail leg happening? similar to the lead leg it’s slightly inward, it seems like copying that on the trail side makes sense?
@@jmag-kq9nl most golfers (pros and ams) set up SLIGHTLY open. Use video to make sure you’re square looking and you’ll be fine. Yes, slightly inward with the knee👍
So the club drops under the shoulder, but when does the club start to get out in front? Hands drop, but club is starting to square up? Too much down and you are way late in squaring the face.
His trail knee straightens a lot on the back swing compared to the pros resulting in a much deeper right hip (51deg compared to ~30-35deg) turn and having to get rid of that much “slack” from the hips in .8 seconds just isn’t going to be possible. I get the flexing of the right knee on the down swing as one way to mitigate the issue but wouldn’t it be more efficient to just have him maintain some right knee bend in the back swing instead? Regardless, great stuff as usual Gents.
@@RobFinneran good eye! We did a follow up after he’d had time to get used to these changes. The laid off was pretty much gone. We only had an hour with him, so we had to prioritize what we put on his plate. If we do our job well, other things like this should start to clean up. But to your point, sometimes we attack that head on, especially when there’s a concept causing it.
@@chachichochacorta8577 right!? The speed the younger pros can produce, with little appearance of effort, is impressive. We're fortunate to have the tools we do to capture how they do it!
You say in the backswing that he WAS 50 degrees open and is now 30 something, because he bends his right knee earlier in downswing? Ypu probably forgot some details there, i get the knee bend in diwnswing will help him get open, but why were the hips 20 degrees more closed in the start than the lst swing at top of the baclswing??
He started at 51 deg closed at the top with 26 deg of stretch. At the end, he was 36 deg closed at the top with 38 deg of stretch. We never asked to rotated less, we asked him to start his knee bend earlier. Doing so gave him a dynamic transition which is what created the extra stretch and allowed him to generate more speed. Before, everything went back, then everything came down - very undynamic (if that's a word😊).
@@AthleticMotionGolf Thanks! see now, hands somewhere between toes and ball. Fighting pulls, will use your info to make corrections. I know soon as the left shoulder goes left, you got a pull every time unless clubface is really open.
0:46 One thing I don't understand is how closed shoulders cause the ball to start on a pull. All other things being equal I would guess that closed shoulders would start the ball to the right (for a right handed player). God I need lessons

It happened automatically. Having the feeling of getting the hands under your shoulder will make you bring them deeper at the top. If your hands are high and in front of your shoulder at the top, you can't get them underneath on the way down. This was how I interpreted it.
@@chrisdee7288 well said
@@AthleticMotionGolf I was hoping this was correct, I plan to try this with my daughter (she's 13).

Great information but I didn’t see anything to click on for the drills??
So this guy is exactly me but gets it around in 10 fewer strokes 😂
Question: was adding rotation specifically to help the pulls? Generally what are the benefits to more rotation, if it’s not always going to help one’s performance (based on other things going on in the swing)
Getting his hand to work under his shoulder, thereby keeping some depth deeper into his downswing stopped his pulls. That then allowed him to get more open which helps with consistency.
Okay thanks. So getting more open at impact IS a good thing to work to add into your swing to aid with consistency, but have to arrange those other pieces to make sure you can get it?
@@calebkyle3292 Exactly 👍
ever think about collaborating with some youtube golfers? Jerome Rufin has had tons of pro level coaching and I think a few lessons with you guys would do more than a year of random lessons and a testimony to your method!
We love working with golfers who have the passion to improve. Sometimes the logistics don't work out, but we're open to helping anyone.
@@terryd89 I think you nailed it. Anything (good or bad) in the swing can be over or under done.
@@AthleticMotionGolf thanks! For me, it's tough to understand the best way to get this done. By pulling the front hip open, thus the back leg/knee must react, or pushing from the back leg. Any suggestions?
@@terryd89 don’t push with the back leg 😉
Can anybody explain “get hands work under the shoulder plane?…does it basically mean try to get hands under the right shoulder at start of downswing?…dont want to misinterpret that concept like i tend to do when i want to introduce a new feel to my swing…😅….many thanks…
@@MattTobiaz that’s it , you got it 👊
don’t pros also set up a bit more open with the hips and shoulders at address? is that something an am with issues like this ought to try as well?
and what direction is that knee bend in the trail leg happening? similar to the lead leg it’s slightly inward, it seems like copying that on the trail side makes sense?
@@jmag-kq9nl most golfers (pros and ams) set up SLIGHTLY open. Use video to make sure you’re square looking and you’ll be fine. Yes, slightly inward with the knee👍
Pro 6 looks a little like Rory’s swing. I bet that guy is good.
He's not bad 😅
So the club drops under the shoulder, but when does the club start to get out in front? Hands drop, but club is starting to square up? Too much down and you are way late in squaring the face.
@@DavidKrumenacker hand drops under shoulder, not the club 🙂
His trail knee straightens a lot on the back swing compared to the pros resulting in a much deeper right hip (51deg compared to ~30-35deg) turn and having to get rid of that much “slack” from the hips in .8 seconds just isn’t going to be possible. I get the flexing of the right knee on the down swing as one way to mitigate the issue but wouldn’t it be more efficient to just have him maintain some right knee bend in the back swing instead?
Regardless, great stuff as usual Gents.
@@-TroyStory- we actually prefer maintaining knee flex on backswing or maybe losing just a few degrees. Thanks
Lotta numbers in that one.
Knowing who these pros are, do you see correlation between the ones who have incredible thoracic extension and back injuries?
Being more deep on backswing makes club looks laid off and flat. Is that an issue
It amazes me in all your pro v am vids how the amateurs are doing more work during the swing than the pros.
@@ToddSchultzNC often LOTS more work.
Did you ask Jeff to try and keep his upper body more closed to the target as well while the arms lowered and the knees/hips started going?
We didn't need to. The goal of getting his arm to work under his shoulder accomplished that without it ever being brought up.
There is no magic bullet! Once again this data shows that the top and bottom need to work correctly. Thanks guys!
thank you!!
Pros swing at 100mph and Senior pro at 83mph. Are they all swinging 7-irons?
yes, these were all 7 irons
@@AthleticMotionGolf That is impressive! I can only manage 87 mph on my very best days. Thank you for this video and the free drills video.
@@chachichochacorta8577 right!? The speed the younger pros can produce, with little appearance of effort, is impressive. We're fortunate to have the tools we do to capture how they do it!
Bending the knee is like the "tour squat"?
@@Toaster-v1z what’s the tour squat?
If only i can find an instructor who can teach this. Sheesh

Hands over toes in setup, swing returning hands to start position...
@@dogsarefun2 That’s a pretty outdated idea, the hands do not return to where they started

@@brycegorman2383 Even with closed shoulders the hand path plane can be left or even well left. What you’re saying should be how it works, but ams are quite to talented 😉
