Same here man. My instructor told me nothing about rpm range and why truck was jerking so much especially in lower gears. He kept telling me keep practicing. I failed my test today. I booked another one with different instructor. Hopefully he is better. Such a waste of money and time. This video was really informative. I wish I had done my research before I went for test. I feel so pissed off. Btw I'm from Australia and we drive on the left and use km not miles.
This guy is a BRILLIANT teacher. Many many many teachers make this concept so difficult and then blame the student for not catching on. This one video alone helped me way more than hours and hours with the trainer I had. So simple and so direct. I love it. Thank you sir for your knowledge and for your patience and for your natural talent at teaching. You're a gift to new drivers
Imma keep it a buck this dude clearly has English as a second language.and he explained this manual system so that it can be UNDERSTOOD!! My American instructor didn't make it make sense like this. That's the thing about teaching. Many people can do something that require skill/technique . Few can actually teach the knowledge to someone else
You explained everything in this video that my instructor couldn’t I swear these days I don’t know how some people become instructors. But you’re very good and training and instructing a new trucker thank you 🙏🏼
I have my road test this Saturday and my instructors have been awful, they’ll scream at you for not doing it correctly as to where this guy will teach you calmly and collectively. Definitely helped me out
This is my girl's account but I'm getting my CDL this week and I can't even emphasize how amazing this video is. Thank you for breaking it down so amazing, I feel more confident about the driving part now 👍
HANDS DOWN THIS GOTTA BE THE MOST SIMPLE AND EASIEST MADE WAY TO SHIFTING I WAS DOING IT WRONG YESTERDAY NOW I FEEL COMFORTABLE AND CONFIDENT GOING ON THE ROAD AGAIN THANK YOU BROTHER CANT WAIT TO FINISH CDL SCHOOL AND GET MY CLASS A
The way you explained how when you’re at a stop, you have to press the clutch all the way down helped me so much because I was on the road and I was at a red light and I kept grinding trying to get into second and i never understood why. I was told to get out the driver seat by my instructor. Thank you!
I like how he explains downshifting. You don't have to go a million miles per hour to get into the next gear and it was a good point since you have to give it gas anyways it will pop into gear after your clutch-gear.
I tried for a job with a very large company and they put me in a Volvo 10 speed manual. I had experience with 13 speed Freightliner and wasn't told the RPMs required in the Volvo. He failed me on 'too many revs', BUT never ever told me the right revs. I wish I had found your videos before that terrible day! Awesome video!
I don’t know how many times I’ve asked people for the RPM’s at which you need to shift/downshift and their response is just to listen in which to someone learning means jack shit…thank you so much for giving that simple information. Learning to listen is fine once you’re taught how to do it and gain some experience with the sounds.
I learned so friggin much from watching this video! My instructors sucked! Wish I had you! This video helped me to pass my road test . I just kept rewatching this video over and over again. Ur so calm and nice and patient. Great job! I learned ALOT
Randell Carter thanks you sir, Im glad this help you. Remember to do 2 second count for your upshifting. Timing is very important and trucks are designed to shift at that time. 1 to neutral and 1 to Gear, pull and press at same time (clutch and gear shifter). Good luck 👍
Thank you for this video , I needed a refresher getting back into a 10 speed after being in an automatic for a while Great video made it real easy and simple
I failed my on road exam twice .. first time i bounced the trailer tires off a curb. Second time I missed too many downshifts. I bought 3 more hours of on road training. My last shot is 5-13 !!! Pray for me 🙏
This guy is a very good teacher very thorough and takes his time explaining slowly and repetitively to make sure he drills it in your head most truck drivers don’t use the clutch after they takeoff they just float the rest of the gears to grab Them I never knew that by shifting like this you could do it in a semi using the clutch every time I was always taught to float gears Once you took off

I wish my instructors explained it to me like this excellent job. I was pushing the clutch all the way to the floor and grinding gears all day today I got frustrated and wanted to give up I hung in there until we got back to the yard. Hopefully I can get it together and shift the right way. Thank you sir many blessings to you .
Awesome videos! I trained in 10 speed when I got my cdl but only drove manual for like 8 months. I've been driving 3 years now with automatic trucks and planning to go to a company with 10 speed manuals so this really helped me knock the rust off lol ITS LIKE RIDING A BIKE THANK YOU

I havent driven a manual since I learned in a 13-speed in 2018, and my new job has a 15-speed and yours is the only video I found that listed RPMs so thanks so much for the needed review
Thank you for the video. Today was my third time driving on the road and, even though my downshifting is “okay,” I’m not fully confident… But you going through the steps shows I’m doing it right. Just need to synchronize my movements and resist the urge to press the clutch too far down. I’ve also done the bottom left to top right (6th-9th) shift on accident at least twice. Glad it’s not just me, but I can’t blame it on bumps in the road. Ha.
My 90 yr old grandmother has her cdl…. My grandfather had this big dually diesel truck with a huge camper they would travel around the country in. After he died in 97 she got her cdl few yrs after and she been on the road with that camper since
Wth you explained this way better than my instructor did.🤦🏾♂️😅 I drove a tractor for the first time Tuesday and I was pressing the clutch all the way down & holding it each time, maybe that’s why I had trouble shifting gears. I’ll use your technique the next time I drive. Thanks
Great video more detailed than my instructor but one good thing he said was just say 1, 2 instead of thinking clutch, neutral, clutch. That helped me with my rhythm
My instructor was my father in law that was fun in a weak 2011 western star they are finicky about catching gears fun times.Been doing this for 14 years now.
You are awesome at explaining in detail brother! Thanks a lot for your great patience and sharing of knowledge. God bless you! I feel a lot more confident know I grabbed a rental truck from the company I work for and was floating gears so easy 😁 Liked and subscribed
Best explanation video about manual transmission shifting gears. I knew about double clutch but just learned about downshifting gears. I just graduated from CDL school but trucks were in automatic. Looking forward to get this manual training done.
I wish instructors had the patience and attitude to explain things out and would helped a lot he would had drive on my first time inside a semi-truck. Thanks Dude peace
Thank you this helped alot. You have a new sub,. My boss let me drive and o couldn't quite get downshift tight ......upshift no problem......lots of time to practice as my school starts on January! Thanks again
You explain it so much better than my instructor. He is just throwing me in expecting me to know how to do it. Not even helping me. I drive truck around a yard at work and I am use to floating the gears. He got mad when I told him that they don't teach us how to double clutch. My first day he put me on a simulator and basically stared at me or his phone or kept going to his office. My instructor shouldn't be an instructor. If work wasn't paying for it, I would tell him I won't be coming back until he actually learns how to help. Also expects me to have my pre-trip 100% memorized in 2 days. I have no idea where most of the parts are. Basically is lazily doing his job and if it continues. I'm telling my boss I want out.
Went for my first day of training today, tomorrow and I've finished, you're a good teacher, also I needed something to review what I've done, good work. Cheers from Australia
Awesome my man. But for me downshifting was alot more difficult than upshifting matching those rpms with rd speed especially on the highway with high speeds low speeds in the city no so much difficulty. 👍👍
I wish my instructor was like you, would have made my life a lot more easy... my instructor was so dumb!

Love the way how you teach this is one of the best video I’ve seen by far
Watching this before my test today for clarification and motivation 💯🚛💙
Your videos have helped me out so much in getting my CDL
I wish the CDL school I went to was this informative. Great stuff!
Got to agree this man knows how to teach!
This dude is a awesome instructor
Nice explanation. My instructor just yells at me that I don’t know how but doesn’t offer tips so that I can learn
Beautiful concept on the clutch brake sir.
I wish instructors had the patience and attitude to explain things out and would helped a lot he would had drive on my first time inside a semi-truck. Thanks Dude peace
te agradezco mucho tu dedicacion, ver tus videos para mi prueba de manejo fue definitivo para pasar, sigue haciendo lo que haces ayudas a muchos!!!
One of best videos I’ve watched on the subject
