So grateful for your guide! You're the only UA-camr that really touched on the nuances of the game that I needed confirmation on. This is my first 4X game so it's pretty overwhelming but you pretty much simplified everything for me. Easy sub!

Thank you for making such a thorough tutorial! One minor topic suggestion that seems to be missing is seafaring, embarking, and nautical combat! Liked and subscribed!
Also remember: Boosts are applied retroactively. So if you queue that town hall so it starts getting built around the time your city hits 5 pops, that's an investment refund for you. Edit: The shuffle also lets you lock in a tech to be available after your current research finishes; useful if you roll two techs you've been waiting for for a bit.

Fantastic guide for starting out! I found it incredibly helpful. Question: How do you get those diplomacy stones. I know you start with one but how do you earn more? Comment: CRITICAL COMBAT INFORMATION CLARIFICATION - Line of Sight. You mentioned that if there are any intervening units, it will lower your chance to hit your targe. There is a HUGE exception. Your own units that are directly next to your ranged unit do not count. This is absolutely critical because it allows you to strategically position your archers directly behind your defenders. They will benefit from any defensive bonuses and they are really hard to get to without the ability to pass through other units. SUPER effective and very obviously intended to be used that way. I know this is in the tool tip and you did not have time to go over every little detail, but I thought that this was important enough to point out as it affects the usage and effectiveness of all ranged units in the game.
Are you planning on running some campaigns on this in the future? I've only seen people play multiplayer on their sponsored videos and I'm more of a singleplayer guy, i want to see how the game works and if there's any significant bugs before actually getting this game
I'm playing on PS5 and have encountered a few "bugs" or the game just not displaying things correctly: 1) When you do a major or minor race transformation, it does not show up under the active spells. It seems like the active spells are only showing the unit enchantments. 2) Maybe I just haven't found the option, but in terms of the "economic overview" button on the top right corner, it simply doesn't even exist on console. Playing with the a controller is fine, but I just can't seem to bring up the menu. However, when you go into one of your cities and bring up the city menu, and go to the bottom icon to annex a province, it does somewhat show those economic points of interest but it seems way more easy on PC to do so. 3) Another weird UI bug when you annex a province from a workcamp. When you do this, a menu pops up and it covers up the pin of the province. So say you annex a province (from a workcamp) that has a food or lumber tile, a sub menu pops up over it. You can still pick the pin, but you just can't "see" it.
well, I was playing on PS five and also PC. I had a bug on PS five where it kept saying save the game do not turn off constantly and would not go away. Also played on PC had like an hour long game where I was finally getting the hang of it, and learning some thing and building an army and researching upgrades and the game crashed and it didn’t auto save anything really made me angry. I think I will be waiting for a patch before I play this game and commit to it also, if you want to play on PlayStation, we could play together I need somebody to learn with.
What's missing here is a bit of a breakdown of the different builds one can go through starting from the faction creation part. Because obviously I'd guess that some starting builds are better for certain things, and to better pursue a certain type of victory (if this is anything like civ and the like), which as a beginner I have no idea about. So I could pick something that looks cool to me but just isn't very good for how I would want to play once I learn a bit about things.
I’m not new to this style and it still feels daunting to me too! I have hundreds of hours in AoW3 and other civ type games. You’ll get there! Just keep playing. 🎉❤
First of all: great tutorial. It is very helpful and i appreciate your effort to make it easy to understand for all of us that are beginning to play this game. I have one question, tho: in the combat, at 1:16:04 you said that if you use "Healing Sap" that has the cost of an Ability Point you cannot move and that you have to decide to use the ability or move. But if the cost is just one Ability Point, shouldn't it possible to use anyway, since the movements take at max two ability points? Maybe i misunderstood that part.
You can move and use it OR only use it unfortunately :( even with full action points, using an ability, unless it's a shaded in blip, will result in the end of that units turn
The other scenarios have turn limits for the end game? I am a beginner and the first games I have played I lost because I wasn’t aware or the turn limits( plus i suck but having fun)
As a fan of Ratfolk from Pathfinder (the PnP version, OwlCat still makes a joke out of what was a core race), the bit about distant claims allowing Underground Acclimated or Isolationist empires to summon units above ground/into the midst of occupied space just prior to cashing in multiple grievances and declaring war.
this video has been a boon for me! thank you i played the original age of wonders a long time ago and saw AoW4 brought it and was imediately confused lol. still i got some fun made a halfling called "Frodo Baggins" made the halflings evil AF and loading up the game i was greeted with "Greetings Dark Lord Frodo Baggins,........" i swear i burst out laughing. i got to about 2 hours into the game all the while confused as to what i was doing then it crashed lol. i guess tolkein saw what i did and used his godlike power to prevent the greatest threat ever known......... an evil frodo who was corrupted by the one ring, turning the halflings into an evil hellish race of unstoppable migits XD. thats when i decided i needed help and thank god your video was at the top of the list. also i cant remember what thing did it but when creating frodo baggins the armour set had that complete mordor vibe and it kinda made go into the evil frodo tangeant lol. Edit: the back story i had in my mind was that Frodo finally became seduced by the one ring stabbing sam in the back and tossed Golom into the lava lake of mount doom to which shortly after he wore the one ring and proceeded to kill sauron, claiming the throne of Mordor for himself. in the midst of all this gandalf felt a great disturbance falling to his knees and said "Frodo no, what have you become! im afraid we are all now doomed for a new Dark Lord has risen, one more powerful and more terrible than sauron ever was."
Currently going through this great video, but I'm confused on some things like production. It doesn't show total accumulations like gold, so is it just a gauge to show how fast you can do things? But I think I heard you say that it can be "banked". I'm playing on the PS5 so my UI is different...
For anyone still having graphics driver related crashes, switching from borderless to windowed display mode is worth a try. I went from a crash every couple of minutes to no crash in a hour of play.
Liking this game so far. Lots of customization, deep systems, interesting maps. I do find myself a bit put off by the extreme reliance on status effects, buffs and debuffs in combat. You HAVE to be very aware of the buffs, debuffs and effects that both your army and the enemy work with to be effective. It can be tiring for someone used to Civ or even XCOM style turn-based combat.
These tips are helpful for understanding how things are supposed to be working, unfortunatley I haven't goptten to really explore much in the game doing the story scenarios however. I'm playing on normal and every story has been completed in like 40 turns, simply by just sending 2-3 6 stacks of mainly t1 units to wherever the enemy is and just auto-resolving any battles on the way to their cities and then their city without stopping. I guess i need to up the difficulty but I'm worried that the little details in the game are just going to be overlooked due to vastly incompetant AI :/
Great video. So its everything that CIV 6 shouldve been. My friend played civ 6 with me and after about 12 hours, it was so dull. AOW looks like it has developed complex and epic gameplay. Paradox made another good game. Good to see. Thanks Sparty for your great videos!
@@MeldinX2 I wonder why they made planetfall pretty differently, I wonder if it was just because it was the first age of wonders game to be put on console or they wanted to try something mechanically different since sci fi was new for the series, Planetfall was my first entry into the AoW series and people were saying 3 was a lot better and I didn’t think it was much different but after playing 4 a bit it feels so much different and better to me I like both but definitely gotta hand it to 4
Hey new player here with a question. So when im building a new structure it has a cost at the bottom like 150 food 250 production. Though say I only have 50 food and 60 production it still lets me build? I'm kind of confused about the resources.
When I launch the game I get a Black screen with the audio playing. Any idea how to fix that. I did go to Steam to get help but after following their instructions, nothing changed
First map i played i spent 80 turns getting every vessel to join me. Then I went to war thinking they would all join. Nope 20 turns later not one army left my vessels city's. Do they not help in war?
Please help I need to know how to cancel a magic materials trade I cannot find a single iota of info on this. No one has a single article or video on it
If i have a unit in an amry that i dont want in there, how do i remove them? For example I've had a scout in my spear and archer army and cant remove the scout. . smh
Great video tutorial!! But something odd keep happening to me when selecting "Affinity Checks" or Choices in ancestral locations. So, if you have a certain amount of affinity required you may choose a special option when entering certain ancestral places and it says the % of success. Awesome video! Thank u for taking the time. With that said, I'm completely new to this style game, and it still feels way too daunting to get into 😢
I’m not new to this style and it still feels daunting to me too!
I just started playing stellaris and now I’m loving this type of genre
Pretty sure if you increase the mouse deadzone setting, you'll have an easier time getting to the tooltip box before it disappears.
Let's give it a try!
Great video mate, very useful
The other scenarios have turn limits for the end game? I am a beginner and the first games I have played I lost because I wasn’t aware or the turn limits( plus i suck but having fun)
As a fan of Ratfolk from Pathfinder (the PnP version, OwlCat still makes a joke out of what was a core race), the bit about distant claims allowing Underground Acclimated or Isolationist empires to summon units above ground/into the midst of occupied space just prior to cashing in multiple grievances and declaring war.
excellent tutorial video...thanks for that👌
Thanks for the vid. I made indoustrious orcs but ironically i don't know how to manage the industry of my city's.
Very helpful and informative video, thanks!
Definitely NOT THE WORST. Nice video.
Thank you... very informative. Are there any other Spartacuses except Italian?
this video has been a boon for me! thank you i played the original age of wonders a long time ago and saw AoW4 brought it and was imediately confused lol.
still i got some fun made a halfling called "Frodo Baggins" made the halflings evil AF and loading up the game i was greeted with "Greetings Dark Lord Frodo Baggins,........" i swear i burst out laughing. i got to about 2 hours into the game all the while confused as to what i was doing then it crashed lol.
i guess tolkein saw what i did and used his godlike power to prevent the greatest threat ever known......... an evil frodo who was corrupted by the one ring, turning the halflings into an evil hellish race of unstoppable migits XD.
thats when i decided i needed help and thank god your video was at the top of the list.
also i cant remember what thing did it but when creating frodo baggins the armour set had that complete mordor vibe and it kinda made go into the evil frodo tangeant lol.
Can you make barbaric despoiler/fanatical purifier halflings in this game?
Absolutely!!
I don’t see those interface bubbles in the top left upper corners. Is there some setting to be adjusted? Thanks!
Brilliant guide thanks bro
Is it better to just keep creating tier 1 units hoping for their promotion and low upkeep, or to create higher tier units?
Thanks man, just picked up
Does the campaign have a proper story like the first three games (not the one in AOW3 because no progress was transferred to the next stage)?
These tips are helpful for understanding how things are supposed to be working, unfortunatley I haven't goptten to really explore much in the game doing the story scenarios however. I'm playing on normal and every story has been completed in like 40 turns, simply by just sending 2-3 6 stacks of mainly t1 units to wherever the enemy is and just auto-resolving any battles on the way to their cities and then their city without stopping. I guess i need to up the difficulty but I'm worried that the little details in the game are just going to be overlooked due to vastly incompetant AI :/
my god this game got me good for the weekend LOL
Great video. So its everything that CIV 6 shouldve been. My friend played civ 6 with me and after about 12 hours, it was so dull. AOW looks like it has developed complex and epic gameplay. Paradox made another good game. Good to see.
Thanks Sparty for your great videos!
Paradox is only the publisher. Triumph Studios is the development team that made the game.
@@MeldinX2 I wonder why they made planetfall pretty differently, I wonder if it was just because it was the first age of wonders game to be put on console or they wanted to try something mechanically different since sci fi was new for the series, Planetfall was my first entry into the AoW series and people were saying 3 was a lot better and I didn’t think it was much different but after playing 4 a bit it feels so much different and better to me I like both but definitely gotta hand it to 4
nice deep dive thank you
How can I use unit deployment location? For example circle of zealotry can be used as unit deployment location, but how?
Hey new player here with a question. So when im building a new structure it has a cost at the bottom like 150 food 250 production. Though say I only have 50 food and 60 production it still lets me build? I'm kind of confused about the resources.
Is there a way to disband/delete recruited Heros? Also, is there a way to get my own captured Hero from another Empire's prison?
Only way is to suicide them unfortunately. Hmm I believe that's in diplomacy negotiations
If you pull up the unit if screen on the top right near there xp level is a tap to disband the unit. Little red thing on the right border of the info
It's not there for the hero unfortunately :(
how do you create another city outside your boundary ? with scouts ?
When I launch the game I get a Black screen with the audio playing. Any idea how to fix that. I did go to Steam to get help but after following their instructions, nothing changed
Ty for the ultimate guide
However, no matter how high the success probability is it always fails. Am i Missing something or may it be a bug? Thanks in advance :)
