About the arctic terraforming, there is actually another spell in that tome, "Marching Winter" that is more meant to terraform your territory. It turns two provinces per turn into arctic, has a two province range outside your owned domain, and every snow/ice province in your domain will provide +2 food and production. The spell you cover is more about turning one province outside your domain into arctic for fights with an army on that tile.
Faithful reminds me of why I enjoyed Theocrats so much in aow3, they weren’t just high morale heavy hitters, they were also complete economic power houses on account of vows of poverty and paid absolution
Now that you mention it they're pretty much all aligned with magic decks. Order =plains, dark = swamp, chaos = mountain, nature = forest, arcane = Island, and materium = artifact (colorless)
Don't sleep on Tome of Winds, abducting cyclone is extremely good tactically for pulling enemy units into kill zones. The biggest issue in late game is huge battles with tons of units taking up space making it hard to focus melee and goon. Tome of Winds also has one of the best archers in the game and a good melee elemental. Can not recommend it enough, especially if you are going down a materium civ and don't have access to good archers.
Don't sleep on Tome of scrying: for any ranged-heavy faction, Guided Projectiles is one of the best enchantments in the game. It allows you to entirely ignore soft cover from other units (meaning you can keep a proper defensive formation rather than having to send ranged units to the flanks for better accuracy) and can ignore some hard cover as well. 70% hit chance can bump up to 90%.
As a 40k fan, I’m just thinking of making a drukhari and even inquisition based armies, of course also a skaven army. Super stoked for this to drop and thanks for the guides they’ve been really helpful as a newcomer to the series.
What makes nature tomes extra spicy is the ability wild expansion from the empire tree. Whenever you annex a province you get an animal unit based on the province. Combine that with the huge boost to food feudal/nature affinity/tome of fertility gives and the society traits prolific swarmers and adept settlers. With that Setup you can basically print armies of animals while rapidly expanding your cities, while also having tomes focussed on buffing animals. Btw. Annexing Ocean Tiles has a pretty good chance to spawn a Tier 4 Kraken, meaning two coastal cities can give you a full T4 Water Army by turn 20...
Bro when I heard a Dark Age of Camelot reference I had to comment. Albion always, although I did roll a disgusting one shot warlock just to feel the power. Thanks for the informative video, very excited to try this game out!
The potential combo synergy looks kind of nuts. Nature seems like it's heavily geared for pairing with either Chaos (even if they have mutually exclusive race transformations) or Order, while Shadow looks like it could do some crazy stuff comboed with Materium or Astral. So many choices, so many playthroughs to do.
I'm so excited for this game!!! I spent 100's of hours playing age of wonders 3 and while not as much played a lot of Planetfall as well. Thanks for the video great info!
i love the magic in age of wonders. it is all so familiar and reminds me partly of warhammer or elder scrolls. but it is all in one game, one universe and it is immersively integrated
In older Age of Wonders games I made a wizard lord based around dark magic and ice magic. It's interesting to see that they combined those two into Shadow in AoW4.
Every affinity have great low lvl tome which is worth touching. For example tome of faith give you tonns of healing. Including true healing, not just temporary one. Plus very very good support.
The game offers so much flexibility especially since you choose tomes as you advance. So while tomes like Order are pretty straight forward, if you don't care about focusing down a tome line you can really do some cool hybrid factions. It is so fun. Right now playing my first game as a Chaos Barbarian faction. Didn't even know Chaos lead down the path it does, went in blind, and over time I started realizing I was basically playing Norsca lol.
There is undead transformation, got it in some temple. Looked cool, life steal and stuff.. but it changed the look of my good looking, long-haired high Moon Elf I created to a bald creature lol.
I found that Order is a great path if you're going for a Magic victory. You don't really get bonuses to research (that you would get in Shadow or Nature), but the overall output fits rather nicely. Casting Wrath of the Emperor four times per turn softens up the spawns real nice. Nature is something that is a really valuable splash. Not necessarily because of the tomes themselves (although the Glade Runner is a brilliant ranged unit), but because the Empire improvements from the Nature branch have some of the best choices.
I'm glad your playing AOW4, you make damn good content man - i would love to see some deep dives on some of your builds, maybe analyze the strategy right on the pre-win autosave so we can look at the build in it's final form. I have been CRUSHING it with UNICORN MYSTICS. You combine tome of BEASTS with Unicorn Mounted Spellbreakers that have the Enchantment from Tome of Scrying that cancels accuracy penalties for shooting into crowds. That way you just use a Mounted Hero and 5 Spellbreakers for each army. It's really expensive and takes a while to get it going, but when you have Pack Leader and all the Beast buff's going on Battlemage Cavalry it's insane. And when something pins you in melee, you just use the unicorn to teleport. Broken AF.
Shout out DAOC! And yes, Midgard forever! God that game was great in its time. Wonky controls, but there will never be a PVP experience quite like it ever again.

It probably will be up tomorrow
There are 3 wiki-like posts on the official forums made by Ericdb that have most of the info with screenshots.
is there a tome to make your people vampires?
Not exzctly. Close is wight born from tier 4 tome of souls and with the dark culture you get kind of close
@@italianspartacus bet
Sooo... where's bramble wall? Wall of fire? It feels like they removed all the super cool city and strategic spells :(
Probably a paid DLC in the future.
Feels very much like we're being asked to buy 10%~ of a game here; another $Parodox$ situation where to actually get the full game it'll be dozen of DLCs adding-up to hundreds of dollars.
@@ItWasSaucerShaped well, there's the season pass, for everything it's like 80 bucks. I didn't really play yet but I spent a lot of time in the encyclopedia... And I must say I'm pretty disappointed because we're missing stuff. The transformations are meh and the races feel largely dumbed down.
I feel like Shadow Magic will never be matched. AOW3 had some interesting ideas but they were already dumbed from SM and now, we're getting a dumbed down 3.
They used the pretty cool and interesting ideas of AOW Planetfall and they improved many things but other parts of the game are suffering from it.
It really makes me wonder what the next AOW will be like, be it planetfall 2 or aow 5.
You know, I was almost hyped for AOW 4 because I wasn't expecting much of Planetfall and I was really surprised by they way they managed things.
Now, AOW 4 is a major step back cut of much content.
0:03 🤣🤣🤣
I think you may be a day early big fella😂
Swapped the two videos I have planned oh well!
@@italianspartacus dudent matter, was still a good video!
*Soooooon…*
nope there is 6 hours til release
Midguard forever #DemHibbies think they special
Gonna have to put this video off till later, thought u might just be talking about starter tomes but this is massive spoilers you might want to mention that for people who may not want to be spoiled on the higher tier tomes, so ill be saving this video till atleast later on tomorrow after i can play a bit
So while I do TALK about those tomes I just quickly discuss certain higher level tomes that work together. Think of it like a Dev blog on tomes becsuse I don't show off any explicitly
@@italianspartacus thats fair just saying even looking at the tomes and what spells they get even if you dont go into detail is still a little spoilery, to each there own just thought that putting a small notification would be nice
No worries at all man! I would just feel bad if you came back after and didn't get more info
I tried to watch your video and I was going to subscribe, but you curse too much for me. I don't understand the need to curse with your generation. It shows a total lack of manners. good luck
What the fuck are you talking about
