Your coverage of Darktide has been great, too (not my sort of game, but have enjoyed watching you explain/critique/have fun with it). Cheers
I appreciate that sometimes my options in this game are limited. Theres a bunch of crap happening but only giving me a few research options or a few units at a time and trickling in more choice as the game goes along. "Where do want to eat?" Vs "Which of these places do you want to eat" Def a preference thing but taking a bunch off the cognitive load without going full auro pilot is great for me.
You do not need an iron or gold special resource node to build quarries or mines, just as you don't need pastures to build farms. In Planetfall, these resource nodes would grant a bonus if you did build the corresponding province type. However, in AoW 4, any province will get the bonus. For example, if you have a gold resource node, and you build a farm on it, you still get +10 gold income. No mine required. Prioritizing expanding to these provinces is what is most important, not necessarily what you build on them.
@@italianspartacus It is all about terrain, not the resource nodes. If you look you can see some provinces have big icons, and some small. The big ones mean that there is a resource node. However, there is plenty of footage available that shows quarries and mines with small icons, meaning no resource nodes (be it gold, iron, pasture, mana, etc...).
True but this is not the case with mines, conduits, or research centers :) it is indeed node dependant. And you're right on the size - it represents the amount of income of that source
Recently started Stellaris and absolutely ADORE Crusader Kings, so now I see that there is a paradox fantasy game!!!??? How have I never heard of Age of Wonders!
One tip I would give is to acquire 4 farms, quarries, and foresters as soon as possible. This will cover all the bases for most of your city's building requirements and boosts. Since you can change provinces to other things at any time, you can then convert any of these to mines, mana conduits, research posts, etc... once you no longer need them.
@@Ty921 if you click on a province it should bring up a menu that shows you what is on it. You can then click a little circle button and it will give to the option to change to any other viable option for that space. It will also allow you to transfer the province to a connected city if that city has room for it.
It's great that you're covering this game. I've played all the Age of Wonders games and I really like them. TBH, the campaigns are usually not as good as a custom game, but I agree that playing the campaign is the way to learn. I don't think they're as good as Total War Warhammer, but they usually have interesting RPG mechanics where you can explore dungeons with heroes in a way that's more engaging than TWW. They are certainly more casual, which is a good thing if that's what you're in the mood for.
It is definitely playable without understanding it fully. On your first playthroughs pick options that look interesting. There is a lot going on but the game gives you a list, one at a time, of things you need to be doing each turn. It's really complicated if you want to maximize everything but if you put it on easy and just pick what looks fun you should be alright 🙂
Love these games and am very hyped for 4! My biggest struggle is usually on deciding when to expand and building enough armies. I can consistently have good early games, but have fun piddling around and tunnel vision on one stack and just kinda fall behind.
Completely agree on judging when to bolster armies. Maybe answer is keep watching the video 😄 but anyone have any tips on this? When should you start building out a second and third stack army and how many full armies do you generally need for end game? And same with number of cities. Should you always try to maintain your city limit (assuming you have sufficient resources)?

Very good video bro. I just bought the game last night on Gog. I was playing Aow3 and Aow Planetfall few months to get ready for Aow4. Looking forward to playing the game tomorrow I am more playing singleplayer but good that Aow4 has multiplayer if I ever wanted to play coop. Will check out your channel and I hope you continue to cover AoW4. :)
Normal in AoW4 feels like Lord (just slightly above normal) from AoW3, so it's not that bad, but it's no walk in the park. The Wonders series really encourages early aggression and quick expansion, though AoW4 put a hard cap to that due to the max city limit. Hasn't stopped me from painting the map anyway.
