You're a great teacher!!! Very thorough and clear! I was afraid of textures and nodes, but you make it easy to start! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
I like not only your slow and clear description of each subject but also the repeat and summing it all up for context at the end. As a practical result, I already felt that I could just redo the steps without reviewing the video. Thanks
thank you for watching!
Commented! Subscribed! Liked! Learnt! Thanks a ton mate! One of the best tutorial videos I have seen about texturing in blender. Cheers to the patience and knowledge you have about the subject.
Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you for this! I had been struggling with wrapping my head around nodes and you explained it so simply.
Glad it was helpful!
I just got started with blender (wouldn't be here otherwise lol) and no one teaches as good as you, the way you explain things is amazing. Especially to non-native English speakers I think it's important, not like I wouldn't understand what you're saying at 2x but I'm Italian and although I'm decent with English sometimes I still need things to go slow and you're fantastic with that, I've seen people rushing a bit too much in other tutorials and it's not as easy to learn like that
Im a native English speaker and most these guys speak way too fast for me to follow along. Ryan is one of only ones I don't have to pause every and rewind every few sceonds.
Fantastic tutorial series man. I've been working with Autodesk software most of my career and it was really easy to grasp that learning curve in Blender with how you explained some terms, shortcuts and why you should do or not do things. Absolutely great essentials one should know on any program. Makes it easy to understand the different terminology that's used, and one can relate it to the previous knowledge one has of another program. Subed!
the way you explain things, your voice tone, and the fact that you gave us 40 mins of your time to make it look easier and "possible" for us to enter the 3D modeling and animation world... this comment cannot express how grateful I am.. keep up the good work man ^^
thanks for watching!
on point comment
@@RyanKingArt Nothing could ever work for me more than his explanations, and taking his time to give others in details the platform, man, forever grateful dude! Keep it up 🫶🏻
This was the best modern tutorial on texturing in Blender I’ve come across, and I’ve watched plenty!! You stroke a perfect balance between beginners and low-intermediates, and explained very well why and how you were doing what you did. I like your approach of setting the bases slowly (but not too slowly) and “by hand”, and only then showing the shortcuts (still at a paced rhythm, to let them sink-in). Too many other people just go: “activate node wrangler and click ctrl+shift+t and the magic happens”. You absolutely earned my like and subscription here! Thank you.
To other people, I’d suggest you also watch the old tutorial by Blender Guru where he shows how these “super nodes” (like the main, “principled SDF” one) come from. That tutorial is on an older version of Blender, so he starts composing and grouping smaller nodes to end with a “super node” with the right set of “knobs” to make it easy and versatile. I don’t know if he had any direct involvement on the development of the current nodes, but I assume he at least influenced people into making them a standard part of Blender. In any case, with that tutorial one gets a pretty good idea of what the complex nodes are doing and why, which helps reduce the overwhelming feeling when you see other tutorials just pulling them out of nowhere (“how did he know which one to use?”).
glad you like the tutorial! thanks for watching.
10/10
Awesome tutorial! Thanks Ryan, you've just made it easier to me :)
Glad it helped!
bro you're the only one explaining EVERYTHING, CUZ U KNOW how hard it is when u start... amazing mate amazing
glad it helped!
This actually blew my mind, I didn't knows you could import textures. I also have to say this is the most comprehensive blender tutorial I've ever seen. Keep up the great work.
glad it helped
Once again, your tutorial and explanations have been the answers that I have been seeking... Thanks for sharing your accumulated knowledge...

Hey man, thanks so much for the tutorial!
welcome!
this basicaly saved my entire project thanks man
glad it helped!
Super grateful for your work!!
thanks!
Man I'm starting to get it. I just skinned up my beater drift car on here, and started to redo some of the other textures. I'm about to drift some and get some game time in. I can't believe I'm starting to get it. I've had Eevee on and I didn't know... so there were some things I wasn't able to do like you've said. I also missed the "hit Z and hit rendered" so my stuff wouldn't change. I was about to give up, but now we are back in business. Thank you for the great content!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.

Haha, Thanks!
Neat tutorial, now my models upon using this kind of method looks like something out of a classic 2000s Pixar, Disney or Dreamworks cartoon.

I don't understand why there are so few likes. Probably newcomers see the length of the video and immediately get scared)) But the tutorial is very clear, and it doesn't feel long and drawn out. Thank you!

I like your explanations for beginners like me, so many tutorials for beginners do not go thru this part.
glad it helps!
Thanks
you're welcome!
I've been having trouble with Texture Baking in Blender. I'm watching another creator's video to create a model, and following yours to bake textures, but I am unable to bake the Base Color of the model.
I watched three videos of yours to explain the concept (How to Setup Texture Maps in Blender For Beginners (Tutorial), Bake Multiple Materials to One Texture Map (Blender Tutorial), and Easy Texturing Method Without Using UVs (Blender Tutorial)), and I found some success with them. By watching your videos, I was able to Bake the Roughness and Normals, but not the Base Color.
I was wondering if I could chat with you to better understand the issue that I'm running into. Let me know if you would have the time, thank you!
New to blender but learning so much so thanks for that! I wonder tho, how do I texture only on one side at the time? I need that for the game i'm using it in when its done. I'm making houses.
learned alot love from india
thanks for watching!
Great tutorial, not much to add. Like!
Thank you!
im not even a minute into this tut but i just wanna say i hope it'll work bc i wanted to try element 3d first before blender but i cant use it bc of my graphics card lol so im really bummed out but by just looking at the comments im hopeful
I there a way to project an image as a texture on an specific moment of a physics generated shape? To explain. I want to make a reveal of a cloth covering an object, but I want the cloth to make the subject invisible at the beginning (let say the best moment to texture it is a frame 45 when the cloth have fully covered the object), as the cloth falls, of course you'll realize that was the texture at that particular moment. Hope I'm explaining myself since I lakc the technical terminology. Cheers
When I downloaded a texture it came with normal Gl and normal DX jpgs. Which one am I supposed to use like yours in the video?
Is there a way to export the textures properly after scaling them? When I export it looks how it did before scaling.
Hey is there a way to export the bump or height map? I am using a simmilar texture in source 2 but it looks too flat...
if I want to use an image in my camera to paint onto my model, I go into uv editing and the picture is far away from the uv's. would you know the reasoning for this?
NOICE
Thanks!!!
thanks for explanation sir, but sometimes there is no roughness image, they put gloss and refraction, should i put glossy and refraction bsdf for it?
Oh, Sorry I forgot to talk about those maps. Yes, just use the gloss map like you would use a roughness map. I'm not sure about a refraction map. Never seen one of those. What is it a texture of?
@@RyanKingArt roger that :) thx for the answer, i download some texture from other website, and there is refraction on it, but i can't find how to use it
Hello Ryan, I need your help. I checked and auto save is on, shift + CTRL . it plugged up but I do not see the material. I followed you step by step but for some reason my texture is not being applied to my object.
Hello, am new to Blender and want to follow your tutorial but I see you've already got the shape for the Wood, Rock, and Cylinder already to start how did you get those models into Blender are they part of the textures example you are using? If they are not part of your texture examples or the model is the steps you show still the same? How do I combine the two to be used in your tutorial?
The rock model was using the "Add mesh extra objects addon" in Blender. the plane and the Cylinder were just default primitive objects in Blender.
this will sound silly but im trying to follow along with your video and can't to the life of me figure out how you got the 3d shapes on the left window and the nodes on the right. Can someone help with this so I can follow along. I watched the video several time and that seems to be the only thing not explained. They are just there when you start. You have been the most thorough person explaining tutorial videos I have ever seen on the net. I totally get how you explain the nodes you made it so simple. But I'd like to follow along, i even have the textures you have in the video. For some reason when I split the screen it looks nothing like how you have it started. Please help so I can do this
Make sure you're in the Shader Editor. Drop down options in the upper right corner. Icon looks like a shiny ball.
It doesn't sound silly - I have exactly the same problem.
would normal maps be more performant than a displacement map due to the change to the mesh/vertices ?
Also would you combine normal maps and displacement to create more realism or would using a displacement alone suffice?
Hmm, it kinda depends on what your going for. If you just want a little bit of fake bump, like some bump on a smooth wood, then the normal would be fine. But if you want the mesh to actually pop out and be displaced, like some bricks on a brink texture, then using a displacement map would be better. But even when I use a displacement map, I also use the normal map.
@@RyanKingArt ty, i was considering performance differences
@@lokosstratos7192 Ahh ok. Normal Maps have better performance then Displacements.
help! i dont see a + new button on my screen to add textures
👍👍👍
Thanks!
wait how does his model change from grey to textured even though both are in render mode? this happens at 34:26
What is the difference between Rock028_4K_NormalDX and Rock028_4K_NormalGL ? The one of the video is which one ? Thanks
I don't fully understand it myself. Its a little bit technical. But you can look it up online. There are articles on it. But for using in Blender, I recommend using the GL version.
ive sen atleast 9 tutorials showing how to do it completely different ways
How can use a non square texture(wood) of 2:1 aspect ratio?
Just use it like any other texture. You just need to make sure you UV unwrap your object correctly, so that there is no stretching. Link is in the description to my UV unwrapping tutorial if you would like to watch it.
Yes: I had a question for you. I have modeled a round wooden table in Blender 3.0. I have textured and mapped each piece, and everything looks fine. When I try to join with control J each of the pieces together the textures disappear. What must I do to correct this problem.? Any suggestions you have to give would be helpful. Please answer back as soon as you can……. Thank s again
Hmm, I don't know why that's happening. When you join objects together, the geometry should still keep its own materials.
Oh wait, I think I know why that is happening. Olav3d made a video on it. You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/mrF29a1AL2E/v-deo.html
Can you assist me? The material I downloaded have 4 PNG images: AO, Diffused, Display, Glossiness and normal. There is no image . which one can I use? None seems to display the image. Thanks much.
I don't understand the question. If you have those texture maps, then how is there, no image? Is it not showing up on the object? Make sure you correctly UV unwrap you object.
Thaks for your reply but resorted to use the node wrangler and was able to pinpoint the problem. When I entered the diffused imahe to the image node it changed it ti diffused node. The wrangler rectified the issue.
I have enabled the node Wranger add-on. When I click Shift+Ctrl+LMB the output of the node just connects to Material output but the viewer node does not show up. :( i could not move
in the new blender update they removed the viewer node, but the node wrangler still works the same.
Idk why but when i try to open the file in blender and all i get is "no such file or directory"
how can I modify the size of the image texture
you can scale the UV mapping of the object.
gg thks
thanks for watching!

Cool! 👍
CNTRL+Shift+T after selected Principled BSDF (Message to my future self from my past self)
👍 👍
what about opacity map? Does no one know what to do with these? These black and white silhouetted images, in my case, of flower peddles and stems
Yes, you can plug that into the alpha, on the principled shader. Or you can use it as the factor in a mix shader, and mix a principled shader with a transparency shader.
I'm confused about which one to download of your textures. I use windows 10.
If you want to follow along with the tutorial, just download all three. And for the resolution, I recommend either 2K, or 4K. that is the texture quality. Also, I recommend JPG version, because it will be a smaller file size then PNG.
@@RyanKingArt Thank you for your reply
Ok, so what happens next? to make textures permanent?
How to export?
what are you trying to export it to?
@@RyanKingArt an image
ctrl shit t, nothing happen in my blender..... helppp
make sure you turned on the node wrangler addon, as I mentioned in the video.
@@RyanKingArt With the wrangler add-on turned on, clicking one node while holding down Ctrl+Shift connects that node to the material node. Holding Cmd+Shift and clicking does nothing (i'm on a Mac). However, I can preview every node as soon as I connect it to the Principled BSDF. Is the preview done now automatically with the latest version of Blender?
We know how to download and extract files
👍
😱😱😱😱😱 oh my God!!! Blender is a liar!! thanks bro
what do you mean? thanks for watching.
This video was so hard to watch, but I forced myself to do it because the information was so good. There was a lot of information, but also so many extra “And you could also….” Points, it probably could’ve been broken into three parts. But the constant moving of everything; objects, cursor, screens, nodes, etc. while talking about them, was driving me crazy. I’m trying to look at what you are doing, but you’re doing it so fast, and talking so much, you’re filling video by clicking-grabbing-moving. I don’t think a scene was stable for more than a second. Why show us a node by clicking-grabbing-circling it wildly while talking about it? Use a cursor/key highlighter and just hover over it. Make precise, determined, smooth movements, while speaking concisely and with a purpose/plan. Maybe an outline would help. It’s like you wanted to show one thing, but then kept thinking, “oh, and you can also…” which is great info, but it became overwhelming.
Your videos are great, just need some refining. One thing I’ve noticed from great tutorials, they are like a textbook, where you could bookmark times to see specific things. One should be able to follow along. I’m going to give it a shot, but I’m probably going to be stopping/rewinding/fast forwarding a lot, to see what is going on, slow down the key parts, and skip over all the extra.
qunem lyavt
what does that mean?
man !!! you dont need talk these much !!! you could finish it in 15 minutes
sorry. thanks for the feedback.
