I Love Blender but its texture painting power is honestly years behind other tools like 3D coat or Substance Painter, if you're doing it as a hobby then sure, the free aspect of Blender justifies this, but if you have any plan for using this skill professionally, then texturing with Blender is a waste of time, literally because it forces you to waste a lot of time on things that are out of the box and extremely easy/intuitive in other tools, like layers and all sort of masks, the exact same simple-modeling texturing could be done in less than an hour in Substance, while in Blender you'll spend at least x3 that time just "preparing things". Actually I am working on Audio Visualizer and between some frames a nasty lights are coming in red, blue, white, or green. Don't know what to do to remove them as they are looking bad when converting into video from img sequence. Please help.
Quick question, when painting with less than 100% strength, is there a way to not overlap the colours? Like if im painting with 20% strength, can my painting not overlap so it stays 20% and not be 40% on some parts? Like how it happened when you were painting the light marks on the blade, there is an awkward bit that is way brighter than the rest of the painting because you painted over it more than once
That’s a good question! But no not as far as I know. That’s why people usually prefer paid software such as Substance over this for texture painting. I usually just go with low strength and just make lots of strokes. That way it blends pretty well. You can also smear and smooth afterwards using the different brushes to create a better fade!
Each stroke layers, so you'd have to either mask separate areas or do it in one pass. Which could be done easier by a bigger brush and farther away. Or the opposite depending on the situation, but a soft brush makes this task easier too rather than a hard edged brush.
@@dimitriosmantzidis4816 hey man, under the brush settings (press n to bring these up), click on the advanced drop down and either check or uncheck accumulate. It's a bit weird though, just tested it again now and it seems to basically just turn opacity to 100% but I may be wrong.
I just dont get id for some reason the busch wont work if i do the fill thing it works or the mask thing that works too but the stupid brush just wont work btw im at 6:14 rn
not sure why that is. Have you tried creating a new texture? Is the texture not solid black? Is the brush a different color and does it have a strength value higher than 0? You can try recalculating the normals on your object to see if that works. Did you properly unwrap the model?
for a beginner level make sense to paint on one panel square. my head isn't ready to to learn around a knockoff sword. I just want to paint on a square to make a quick guide on what I want to model.
i forgot I commented on this, but I can't seem to paint like you. I can't seem to color right on it. I don't have the UI to choose color in side the window. I'm using 3.6 to make some CC for sims 4. @@KaizenTutorials
When i want to paint with the brush the whole blade becomes the color, the longer i hold the darker it gets. Another problem is that only the blade of the sword is smh affected by the painting. I cant paint anything else and my window left is just black, nothing else lol.
That's weird. Maybe you have a big brush size? Are you usingh my model? Is not you should make sure the model is joined using CTRL+J and is unwrapped aswell. Select the model hit U and Smart UV Project. It could also be something with a weird brush setting. Maybe you're not using the default brush?
I have i9 13900K,Geforce 4080 16GB and 64GB RAM and when I paint with big brush right in the object my computer overloaded and the brush sticks and moves slowly, especially when I use the soften brush.i trying everything but nothing 😢
That's weird! Your setup should work fine. Do you have a very high-poly mesh with lots of modifiers maybe? Although even then I'd assume better performance!
I sure can! I did a render of the sword model with the texture and one without. This was a close-up render in Blender. Then for the background I did a simple plane with a color and then some lights to get the fade. I took those into photoshop, combined the two sword renders and masked the color version out to make it look like paint. Added in the background on a separate layer! Text elements and logo and finally the tablet drawing hand and some speed lines which I just got from Google to add some movement and sense of motion to it all! Hope that helps 🙌🏻
You’ll need to bake and save the images in Blender to be able to use them in other software. I don’t know how to import them in Unity though, but there’s probably videos explaining how to do that out there!
For some reason when I paint, the brush draws on the opposite side of the model, like it's going through the faces I'm looking at and painting the back faces. Any clue why it's doing that?
Ok now I’m confused again, how do I make it stay that color all throughout the different stations (specifically animation) because it keeps going back to its gray form
I'm not sure I follow. The texture is applied to the UV's, so if you save the texture after painting it it should just stick to the model no matter what.
For some reason the UV Unwrap only unwraps the handle of my sword (a cylinder), and not the blade (a plane that I extruded to be blade-shaped). Any ideas why this isn't working.
Since you used a plane as a separate object to make the blade you'll need to unwrap each of these individually, unless they're merged. So if in the outliner you have 2 objects, namely a cylinder and a plane, you need to unwrap both individually.
That’s probably because you’re not in material or rendered view in the other workspaces. So press Z and change the view to rendered or material viewport! Then it should pop up :-)
when i press "A" to select all, pressing "U" isnt brining up the menu to unwrap the model. the model im trying to texture is around 55k polygons so idk if it being that high poly has an affect or not.
Hello! I've been having a problem when switching to Texture Paint and it's driving me crazy. Basically I have my done my UV map of a low poly red panda, but when I switch to texture painting it doesn't appear. Now when adding a texture it "appears" but it's not the same. I can't color on it and I can't do anything. I've been having other problems like a very pixellated coloring in the areas that I select. If you could help me in any ways it would be appreciated! (Im new to blender btw)
Hmm I'm not sure what you mean. The pixelated thing could be to your UV unwrap and due to the texture size. If you have a 1024x1024 texture it's going to look pixelated. Maybe your UV's got messed up, try unwrapping again. It should work if you have a decent unwrap and add a new base texture in the texture paint workspace.
@@KaizenTutorials Thanks! I have found a different way to fix it by adding materials in shading mode and assigning the colours to the parts of my low poly red panda. Thank you very much though! I'm definitely going to try on my other models to fix the problem!!
hey for some reason it wont let me paint on my model. i think i did everything right up until you put the texture on. you seem to be able to draw immediately after doing so, but it doesnt work for me
That’s weird… if you have a uv unwrap and a texture added it should work. You can check to see if your texture is plugged into the shader in the shader editor
Six months late with this, but for the sake of anyone else having this issue, yeah, that is the problem - I've just had the same trouble myself and removing the other material fixed it. :-)

After restarting blender pressing S to use the colorpicker tool doesn't work anymore. Any idea why?
hmm yeah seems you need to click on the colorwheel now and then the eyedropper tool
@@KaizenTutorials yeah. figured that out. do you know how to apply mask in the 2d view?
i want to try this with a simple metaball but no matter what i do, no kind of UV shows up when selecting it, i just dont get it
I don't think Metaballs have UV's, or can have UV's. But I might be wrong on that though.
But how do you paint a character made up of multiple objects? I wanted to have a single texture and uv map for each object but i can't do that
You can have multiple materials. Each part has a material with it's own texture painted textures
you used 16 px margin for a 2K image, does this mean that if you make a 1K texture you should use a 8 px margin?
Yeah it does!
for a beginner level make sense to paint on one panel square. my head isn't ready to to learn around a knockoff sword. I just want to paint on a square to make a quick guide on what I want to model.
if you just want to sketch a concept you're better of using grease pencil. Texture painting is way to tedious for that.
i forgot I commented on this, but I can't seem to paint like you. I can't seem to color right on it. I don't have the UI to choose color in side the window. I'm using 3.6 to make some CC for sims 4. @@KaizenTutorials
Thank you for the tutorial.it really helped me on learning how to texture pain!Great video
Glad I could help.
When I draw, the brush goes through the model and only colors if it’s on the inside of the model
Your normals are probably flipped. Select your entire mesh in Edit mode and hit ALT+N and Flip normals. That will probably work!
@@KaizenTutorials your a great help
please help i cant color mine ;-; ive tried so many different videos it colors randomly and then i cant get it to workagain
Make sure to add a material, UV unwrap and add a texture slot in the texture paint workspace.
Paint using the mirror modifier apply the paint to the mirror side?
Uhm if you use the specific texture paint mirror option yes. The modifier doesnt do it afaik
@@KaizenTutorials Oh.ill try in simple cube and I come back with update.thank you so much 😊
Hi, can you please share how you have made the video thumbnail?

How can I import texture to unity properly ? Pls helppppp 🤯
I'd say either unwrapping issues or a mirror problem with either the brush mirroring or a mirror modifier!. Could also be flipped normals.
Thanks so much. First texturing video that was easy to follow along and had great results!! TYSM
Glad it was helpful, thanks!
For me, whenever i exit the texture paint menu/option, the mesh goes back to plain gray until i open texture paint again
That’s probably because you’re not in material or rendered view in the other workspaces. So press Z and change the view to rendered or material viewport! Then it should pop up :-)
@@KaizenTutorials How do we transfer that painting we did so it shows up in rendered?
What if you have a model with multiple parts?
You unwrap and paint each part individually
when i press "A" to select all, pressing "U" isnt brining up the menu to unwrap the model. the model im trying to texture is around 55k polygons so idk if it being that high poly has an affect or not.
That’s strange, as far as i know this shouldnt be a problem. You have to be in edit mode to unwrap though, so make sure you are!
I'm definitely going to try on my other models to fix the problem!!
hey for some reason it wont let me paint on my model. i think i did everything right up until you put the texture on. you seem to be able to draw immediately after doing so, but it doesnt work for me
Have you unwrapped your model?
@@KaizenTutorials yeah, i did it like you did in the tutorial
That’s weird… if you have a uv unwrap and a texture added it should work. You can check to see if your texture is plugged into the shader in the shader editor
@@KaizenTutorials I’ll try that, by chance, I have a material on my model, would that have anything to do with it? Or no
Six months late with this, but for the sake of anyone else having this issue, yeah, that is the problem - I've just had the same trouble myself and removing the other material fixed it. :-)
