      @chrisgrech7992 4 місяці тому +1

      she isn't the worst villain, she did some pretty bad things but it was mainly to take revenge on those who hurted her. She never reached the levels of Ramsay or Dany who was a war criminal even before the events of King's landing.
      Others in show plotted and caused all the troubles, Littlefinger and Olenna for example. Ned Stark was ready to believe Lysa, but he must have heard that the woman was crazy, still breastfeeding her son at 10 years. The same Ned had no issues in executing deserters without checking why just on face value.
      Cersei and the Lannisters had to defend themselves against all those enemies. Even if she was killed early on, Dany would have brought war to the 7 kingdoms. It was Robert who picked war with drogo not Cersei.
      Cersei made mistakes, but she was also a victim of others as well, she was sold into an abusive marriage. She was cruel to Tyrion, unjustly cruel, but he did not help in trying to have a decent relationship, him selling her daughter into marriage only served to make her look at him as an enemy. Him killing Tywin sealed that, even in view she believed he killed her son. Even Jaime turned against him.

    To put it in the words of her lord father, Tywin Lannister: “I don’t distrust you because you’re a woman; I distrust you because you’re not as smart as you think you are.”
    And this was absolutely true. Tywin listened and negotiated with Olena Tyrell because she knew how to play the game. In the show, he showed respect towards Arya, because she was incredibly clever and showed she was smarter than some of his own war council.
    It’s sad to think that Cersei had all of Tywins pride, yet none of his foresight, which is what ended up dooming House Lannister. If she had at least one child with Robert Baratheon, people wouldn’t have looked in to her bastards with Jaime. If she had taught Joffrey how to be a decent person, they could’ve spared Ned Stark and averted a full blown war. If she hadn’t been so quick to accuse Tyrion of Joffrey’s murder, and actually took time to listen to Tyrion and have people look deeper in to it, not only would she have gotten rid of the Tyrell’s like she wanted, but her father would still be alive to guide Tommen as king. And if she wasn’t so quick to arm a group of religious zealots, she wouldn’t have become their prisoner.
    Joffrey and Ramsey’s sadism is what made them so detestable, but Cersei was so detestable because she was a vain fool who only thought about what she wanted, and never about the consequences of her actions. That’s why I never held any sympathy for her. She is the very definition of pride cometh before the fall…

    • @chrisgrech7992
      @chrisgrech7992 4 місяці тому +5

      Joffrey had a "Father" who preferred going after whores than being a father and a guide, Blaming Cersei for Joffrey is gross. Myrcella and Tommen are decent kids, so she did a good job raising the kids alone. Only dying Robert realizes he should have passed time with his son. No wonder Myrcella was happy to find out Jaime was her father.
      Robert Baratheon was abusive to Cersei he used to rape her in the early days, She was sold into the marriage by her father against her will. Unlike Dany she did not give into pleasing sexually her rapist.
      Cersei and Jaime got back at their father and Robert(who used to insult Cersei infront of Jaime) by having their own children. Yes, she was in an unnatural relationship, but the irony of all, hers and Jaime's relationship is the one that survives the series from the beginning to the end, and the one that feels sincere despite at times being toxic. You wanted her to give a child to her rapist, a man she was forced into marriage, to avoid people looking into her children's parentage? seriously?
      Her secret was safe for many years and would have been, if Ned Stark was not that stupid to believe that the Lannisters killed John Arryn. He decided to believe his sister-in-law who breastfed her ten year old son!! Ned was a hypocrite he hid Jon's parentage from his friend Robert but was ready to spill the beans with Cersei's children.
      Tyrion had already threatened her and had already took away her daughter whom he sold into a political marriage reminding her of her own horrible experience. Joffrey pointing at him strengthened her conviction that he was guilty. Also Tyrion murdering her father put a seal to that. Even Jaime came to believe that.
      Olenna poisoned joffrey with Tywin around. She wanted to control the 7 kingdoms through her niece, No Tywin would have not guided Tommen, he couldn't even control his own children, nor noticed what happened under his nose. Jaime and Cersei had been lovers since their teens. Tommen was under the sexual spell of his wife, he was so weak that he was ready to sell his own mother. Tywin was not invincible he couldn't free his own son from being a captive. Also if Tywin did not die, he would have come into conflict over Tommen with Jaime, who already made it clear that he would see that his son would be ok.
      Also you people point out at Cersei's faults forgetting Jaime's, He started all the mayhem by throwing Bran out of a window, he starts a brawl with Ned, escapes to his father, leaving his twin fending off their enemies. Jaime has no problem in killing his own cousin, after his so called redemption he was ready to kill all sparrows, to exterminate all people in Riverrun, to catapult a baby boy into a castle, poisoning Olenna, vowed to retake everything that was of the Lannisters among others. Not to mention the other characters, Stannis who sacrificed his own daughter for power? Robert who sent assassins to kill the Targaryen girl? Tywin who orchestrated the starks wedding massacre? Daenerys who watched her brother being gruesome murdered without trying to save him? or the prisoners of war she executed in a horrible manner? Yeah but only Cersei was cruel to her brother! Cersei taking revenge on Ellaria was cruel, but Sansa with Ramsay was justice?
      Cersei made mistakes but was often the victim of the plotting of others, she took revenge sadistically against those who hurted, all that made her into a stern dour heartless person, but she was an amateur compared to other characters. Not last Daenerys who was a war criminal who left a path of destruction behind her, that made Cersei an angel of mercy.

Every moment that Cersei suffered was as good as a goal for my favourite football team. It’s just a shame that her death in the show was nowhere near brutal enough. I think it’s interesting how much of an impact Robert had on Cersei in a negative way, at least in the books. It’s said that Cersei began to force herself on Taena Merryweather when she served as Tommen’s regent and she started to become fat due to her newfound alcoholism. To me, it seems like in spite of all the hatred Cersei had towards Robert for how he treated her during his time as king, she had become exactly like him when she sat the Iron Throne, and this truly embodies her hypocrisy

    • @captainhowlerwilson508
      @captainhowlerwilson508 5 місяців тому +9

      While I am sure what Robert did to her may have been unfair, it can be hard to blame him as I am sure he understood what kind of person she was and what she was capable of. This is why, depsite him admitting that slapping her after her diabolical torment towards an injured Ned Stark was not a kingly thing to do, it still felt satisfying because she was being a huge bitch there.

    • @sudowtf
      @sudowtf 4 місяці тому +20

      Robert was nothing like Cercei, though. Robert was a warrior who had no idea what a king should be like but he recognised this, hence why he gave most of the control away to his small council. Cercei on the other hand wanted to be the small council all by herself and really had no sympathy for the common folk of the 7 Kingdoms. Also, while reading the book where Robert is alive, I didn’t get the impression that he really knew how evil Cercei truly was or could be. He more so viewed her as a difficult woman he couldn’t bend to do his bidding.
      It’s also important to note that Robert never loved Cercei and he was still in love with Ned’s dead sister.

    I love your video, but I disagree with you on one thing. Cersei wasn't born hateful or selfish: she learned it from Tywin. Daughters often try as hard as possible to emulate their father's philosophy, making them far more like their father on a personality level than a son would (think Jinx from Arcane, The Prince from Bullet Train). Tywin is cruel to Tyrion and a narcissistic prick who also never forgets a slight, real or imagine (just ask Tyrion), only loves himself (he only loved Joanna, his cousin because she reminded him of himself), and hates women for making him weak (which is why he whips Alayaya in the books after raping her). Cersei and Catelyn Stark both had the same major flaw: They couldn’t see past their own desires. Cersei couldn’t see past her pettiness, cruelty and hatred for being born a woman and her desire to rule in her own name after Tywins death, her desire to murder Tyrion, her desire to bed Jaime simply because in her own narcissistic mind she’s bedding herself and feels whole when she does, with no regard for the consequences and desire to rid herself of the Tyrells, all of which has brought House Lannister to ruin. Catelyn Stark couldn’t see past her children and desire to save them which is completely understandable but it drives her to make terrible decisions, arresting Tyrion for the perceived attempted murder of Bran which leads to Ned being crippled and ultimately imprisoned and executed (also not listening to what Ned told her to do the last time they spoke before she left KL). Freeing Jaime with the delusional idea that it would somehow lead to Sansa and Arya being returned, which greatly undermined Robb’s campaign tho Robb certainly made his own mistakes but losing Jaime as a prisoner freed Tywin to conspire the Red Wedding with the Freys and Boltons, no way does Tywin plan that if Jaime is still Robbs prisoner. Both Cersei and Catelyn greatly diminished the power of their Houses and nearly brought them to ruin but one is clearly more evil than the other

    I understand that from certain parameters we can all feel for Cersei, but and I’m speaking a primarily a book reader, Cersei Lannister is one of the most appalling, disgusting, murderous, evil spinters I’ve ever read in fantasy literature.
    And yes the misogyny in Westeros is horrible, and yes having Tywin Lannister as your father doesn’t improve your chances of being a healthy adult, but the big asterisk here is that Cersei isn’t mad about the misogyny or cruelty that women suffer in Westeros, she’s only mad because she’s not the one inflicting on others by her own hand.
    One only has to guess at Cersei’s reaction to the news of Elia Martels brutal murder, and it doesn’t take a genius to imagine Cersei Lannister laughing herself breathless at the thought at what The Mountain did to Elia.
    That’s what Cersei Lannister is deep down, a monster.

Actions are different depending on who suffers from them. Cersei deserved much worse and Robert did not care about hurting her, not simply because he is a bad man who doesn't care about his wife... One thing thing I find really interesting is that Cersei has essentially the same character flaw as Ned just manifesting in completely different ways. They both think that the everyone will do the something they would do if they were in that situation. Ned believes Little Finger will help him not because Ned is simplify stupid but the fact that Little Finger loves Cat so he will help her husband because that is what Ned would do. It does not occur to Ned that maybe Little Finger would seek to use this to seek power and remove Ned so he can marry Cat. Because of this Ned walks into a trap and dies for his mistake. Cersei is the same, seeing what she would do in everyone, expect she is a horrible person, so she thinks that everyone seeks to accumulate power and will overtake her the moment they get the opportunity because that is what she would do. When dealing with the Tyrells a family who are clearly looking to gain power and are now the only rivals to house Lannister (For Storm of Swords and Feast of Crows at least) , Cersei does not think there can be any real peace or coexistence so she plans to remove them breaking part the most important alliance her family has. She seeks out people like the high sparrow and other chorines that she thinks she can control instead of compete and loyal individuals because in her mind there are no loyal people just people like her that will grab as much power as they can. So when the high sparrow turns on her no one comes to help her and she essentially has lost all her supporters, expect Qyburn, even her brother and she is left in this state of powerlessness at least until Winds of Winter or blowing up the Great Sept in the show. For both of them seeing there refection in the intentions of those around them led to their downfall. Ned story is over essentially and I hope if the main books are concluded this character flaw in Cersei proves to be part of her final downfall.

      You do know she's had Robert's bastard infants killed right? Not only that but infront of their own mother. Also, this petty jealousy of the opposite gender has always been just that. There comes a point when someone just isn't sympathetic not only because of what they've done and who they are but because the "pain" she's been through wasn't really all that bad. Not when she was born into one of the most desirable and privileged house arguably in the whole world...
      I find it concerning some people claim to "love" this woman...🫤 I think if someone does love a person like this it's either because they don't see them for what they are, or even worse they do and see their own reflection and relate a great deal to them. Big red flag either way.

    In ASOIAF, a story that takes place in a medieval society where women are treated as the property of the men in their lives and expected to serve as babymakers, the most misogynist character is arguably Cersei Lannister. I’d list examples of some of the stuff she’s said about other women in ASOIAF, but it’s pretty extremely NSFW.

      Cersei is not just misogynistic, she is misandric too, as well as xenophobic. Understand, Cersei in the books is a megalomaniac narcissist.
      She uses everything to blame her surroundings and justify her actions and thoughts. She just wants to be a man, because in her view that would be an easier way to gain power, however, she doesn't understand that it was just because she was a woman that she got to the position she did. After all, she would never have been a royal if she were a man.
      Tyrion described her perfectly to Young Griff. Cersei is hungry for power, love, honor and anything she values. She is just a totalitarian tyrant who happened to be born a woman.

    31:09 I respectfully disagree on there being nothing inherently wrong with an incestuous relationship due to the simple fact that any children born from such are far more likely to have severe birth defects. One of the most glaring examples of this would be the Habsburgs whose efforts to keep their blood line "pure" played a massive role in their downfall.
