I love you guys, but you blew it on this review. You talked all through it and over intricate guitar work. Then some of your commentary was just vulgar. You are better than this.
I talked my mom into letting me go to his concert in ‘77-78. EVERYONE had Frampton Comes Alive. Saw him again 40 yrs later and he was fantastic. Still 😍 but with less hair.
I had his poster on my wall in 1975. We would go with a keg of beer in the hills with huge speakers and 8 track tapes and dance until dawn. We had freedom and cops would show up take our booze and tell us to be good and leave. ❤ loved your appreciation for Frampton.
He and David Bowie attended the same school..Frampton's father was Bowie's Art teacher..Bowie was 3 yrs. older, but Frampton was in a band at 12 (The Little Ravens), and Bowie was in his band (George and the Dragons) and they would spend lunch breaks together playing Buddy Holly songs..Bowie's real name was David Jones, but there was already an English bloke with the same name in a little band called The Monkees, so he changed it to Bowie.
That’s a talk box that’s connected to his guitar through a tube which alters the sound of the guitar by the way he moves his mouth. And yes it’s freaking awesome!
Thanks for mentioning that. I feel like it should be obvious what's going on, especially given how the video production overlays his picking hand with his vocalization. But then I knew what this was back in the day so I'm biased. The important thing is appreciation for the performance.
We were so freaking lucky to grow up in the ‘70s-80s. The music was incredible and concert tix were CHEAP. I tried to list all the concerts I went to and it was damn near 100 (not including the great bar bands in Philly). I love to see younger people appreciate it. 💕
Frampton Comes Alive! Was the BEST live album of all time. I was 16 and the album cover was on my wall. 45 years later I saw him sing this song from the front row! He still can play!
This song put Frampton in the limelight and was in a way, his downfall cause he could never duplicate it's success. Still you can't deny the man's musical talent. He was a superstar in his day. Everyone I knew had the Frampton Comes Alive album. And the Midnight Special was the best thing on TV back then. Loved it when Wolfman Jack hosted it.
Eh, perhaps. He did have a real downfall. The Sgt. Peppers movie was terrible for him. The album after this sucked (with the single "I'm in you") But he was redeemed. And you know who did it? Because he went to school with his older brother? David Motherfucking Bowie. Glass Spider tour.
It's March 2024 now and Frampton is on tour.....seeing him LIVE is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed. March 16, 2024 Windsor Ontario Canada....& Then throughout USA. Incredible guitarist. ❗
I had a lifesize poster of Peter Frampton in my room in 1973! My first love looked just like him (with black hair and blue eyes) and played guitar. Peter Frampton's guitar was great! Oh, the memories! Thank you for this!
I got to see Frampton play this album on the Forth of July 1976, in Nashville. One of my all time favorite concerts! He is considered one of the guitar heroes!
I saw Peter Frampton in concert twice - once about 1978 when my husband and I were dating, and again just a few years ago. He is still just as good in concert as he was back then! And he has his son singing with him!
I bought the album and did the same thing. Then he came to Mobile for a concert. Went and Gary Wright opened for him. Was great. Then Frampton came on, the whole concert sounded exactly like the album down to the the last note. We were kind of let down. It was great but we all thought we could have just stayed home and listened to it. Gary Wright was amazing though. All synths.
His father was a music teacher one of his students was David Bowie. Back in the Guitar years 60’s and 70’s Frampton was one of the very best. He did had success with a band called Humble Pie early on.
You are right , Humble Pie was considered one of the first British super-bands were Frampton played guitar as a duo with Steve Marriott . But Steve lead singer was the star of the group. When Frampton left the band he deservedly achieved instant success .
Music, I grew up on and I love seeing other people discovering new music from the old days. Loved your reactions. Peter was a genius with the guitar and loved performing. Had the pleasure of seeing him live in Atlanta. Oh Baby I love your ways is another one of his that was a big hit.
A TalkBox isn't any kind of synthesizer. It's entirely analogue. Instead of his guitar playing out of an amp, the TalkBox is like a mini-amp that sends the sound wave down that tube you saw him put in his mouth. The guitar sounds come out of that, and he shapes them with his mouth, just like he does with the vibrations from his vocal chords. And guitar face is very much like sex face. On any instrument, if you're *really* into it, your face matches how you feel, and you could care less how it looks.

the song was that long - Frampton never had much radio play but his concerts were fire - when he released his live album with this song his career exploded
I saw Peter do this song at the L.A. Forum in 1977. Frampton played a guitar solo, then a piano solo, then a drum solo in the same song… a 30 minute version of this song….AMAZING

Everyone who owned a record player back in those days, owned that live album and it still holds up to this day. That audience at the Midnight Special had no idea that Frampton was going to literally play an extended live version of his hit to close out the show. An even better LIVE performance on UA-cam is Frampton at the Oakland Colesium 1977. It was awesome. Also Frampton singing "OO Baby I love your way" is the bomb.

Peter Frampton was not only a legendary guitarist but a huge hitmaker for a few years. His double album "Frampton Comes Alive" was on the charts for a long time. He sounds even better live than on his studio albums. Try "Show Me The Way" for another hit he had.
Peter Frampton is a trip fellas. His "Frampton Comes Alive" album broke every sales record on the planet at the time, BUT a lot of people have never heard of him and he did not have the popularity staying power of his peers like, say, Aerosmith. Some think he saturated his time and people had enough, while others think that his songs were so good that he could not satisfy what fans then expected, or reach the bar that he set. Thanks guys, that was great. Peace.
To be honest... I have always pretty much felt this, even back in the day..... Early, for too long, nothing to write home about.... he about loses me.... then it kicks in, more than makes up for it.......amazing.
lol. For years I thought he played the voice box exactly like his guitar phrasings then I found that they actually channeled the guitar through the mouthpiece.
this is the era of true talent,no auto tune or computer corrected songs it was one heck of a party every where you went in the seventy's, cause in the 1970's great music was all over the world!!!!!
I love Peter Frampton & still listen to his music. His "Frampton Comes Alive" album came out in 1976 & I graduated from high school in 1977. My favorite song of his is probably "Lines on My Face." I'm pretty sure that that album is still among of the best selling live albums ever made. Every song on it was great.

And he was beautiful to boot!!!

True!!!

….without auto-tune

There could never be another MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, there's nothing out there nowadays worthy to put on.

Best Song of the 70's. Brings back so many HS memories!!
Voice box is awesome!!!!! Great guitar player! I grew up with this stuff!!!!!!
Peter Frampton Legendary. Even joined in with the Beatles. Love that Les Paul Custom. Phoenix.
Cruising the strip listening to Frampton in my 71SS
Peter Frampton is a trip fellas. His "Frampton Comes Alive" album broke every sales record on the planet at the time, BUT a lot of people have never heard of him and he did not have the popularity staying power of his peers like, say, Aerosmith. Some think he saturated his time and people had enough, while others think that his songs were so good that he could not satisfy what fans then expected, or reach the bar that he set. Thanks guys, that was great. Peace.
When you hit the heights.....how do you go higher?
To be honest... I have always pretty much felt this, even back in the day..... Early, for too long, nothing to write home about.... he about loses me.... then it kicks in, more than makes up for it.......amazing.
lol. For years I thought he played the voice box exactly like his guitar phrasings then I found that they actually channeled the guitar through the mouthpiece.
And he’s still playing and making records!
this is the era of true talent,no auto tune or computer corrected songs it was one heck of a party every where you went in the seventy's, cause in the 1970's great music was all over the world!!!!!
Love Frampton
I love Peter Frampton & still listen to his music. His "Frampton Comes Alive" album came out in 1976 & I graduated from high school in 1977. My favorite song of his is probably "Lines on My Face." I'm pretty sure that that album is still among of the best selling live albums ever made. Every song on it was great.
Peter Frampton has despite all his Pie of success remained a Humble guy
One of the best albums ever, every song on the album was great
He got in car accident, broke arm, hands, fingers. He recouped and returned!!🎸🎸🎸❤❤❤🎤🎤🎸🎸

Frampton...incredible musician...saw him a couple years ago and still musical perfection!!! Love him
