“Frampton Comes Alive!” was the must-have album in 1976. Everyone owned it, it seemed like. Oh, this brings back some sweet, sweet memories of my teenage years! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸🎤❤️❤️❤️
do you remember the line from Wayne’s world? “I grew up in the suburbs. We were issued this.” Lol
He was always awesome live. He loved performing and audiences could feel that. They were fun shows to be at. This one has everyone subdued as part of their agreement to be part of the broadcast, where they want participation, but nothing disruptive to hearing the music.
Also, a talk box, for a skilled person, isn't that difficult. They just play the notes they'd sing, and then 'sing' as normal with their mouth, *without* pushing air over their vocal chords. That way the guitar sound comes up the tube and replaces our breath and vocal chord vibrations, and then the mouth shapes the sound waves as normal. That said, some people are really good at it, and Frampton, Slash, Joe Walsh and a few others are particularly creative with a talk box. (If you notice, Peter always mouths his solos even when not using the talk box because, like a lot of people when they solo, he plays what he sings in his head.)
@@loadedorygun Yes, it came in the mail with samples of, Tide.
1976 broke my album budget. There were so many great albums that came out that year. Frampton, Boston, Eagles, Queen, Nugent, etc...All straight up bangers!
@@larrychasen1070 How could you leave out, A New World Record?!?! Every song on that album was great!
The live version from Frampton Comes Alive is a must. Actually the whole album….
Frampton comes Alive is a must, AGREED!
Yeah but this is a decent introduction.
Yes, the entire album 👍
This is live too.
Love the album!
Damn, I miss those days. I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 70’s, which, imo, was the best decade of music ever. Peter Frampton was huge… HUGE, when his Frampton Comes Alive album came out. You just don’t hear solos like this anymore.
Agree with you, Maggie - 1977 saw Frampton open for KISS with Cheap Trick! Amazing!
It's funny how great music and movies can come out the worst economic times. The 70's had a creative explosion in music (yes, even disco), and the movies were incredible. The economy....inflation and stagnation.... Just look at vids of Times Square in the 70's.
@@jayjordan7104 Same in England when we could only work 3 days a week to dave Electricity in the Mid 1970;s for a year.
The 70’s were good, but the 80’s were better.
I was in my 20s and grew up in San Francisco. Just listening to this brings me back to how much great music we had back then. The music reflected so much of what was going on.
The “Talk Box” was similar to a Wha Wha pedal. The plastics tube was inserted in your mouth and the difference in air pressure as you spoke or moved your mouth around would cause a difference in the tone of the guitar sounds. Not too many players really learned to handle it that well, except for Peter Frampton.
Joe Walsh was not bad
@@sab4336 Joe was real good with it.
and a pretty damn fair guitar player too
Close... it's actually is just a small speaker in the switch unit on the floor that plays the guitar and the sound goes up through the tube and into your mouth. You simply talk or sing while playing and get all of the unique sound of mixing your voice and mouth with the sound of the guitar.
Peter Frampton invented it
The guitar he’s playing in the video has an interesting story… it’s a custom 1954 Les Paul “Black Beauty” (with three pickups). He absolutely loved that guitar and it’s also on the cover of his “Frampton Comes Alive!” album. He called it “Phenix”. In 1980, a plane carrying the bands equipment crashed and burned in Venezuela, and Peter Frampton thought it was lost forever. But he got an email in 2011, where the guitar showed up in Holland at a guitar repair shop, where the owner recognized it and contacted Mr. Frampton. So 31 years after the guitar went missing- like it’s namesake- the Phenix ‘rose from the ashes’ and was eventually returned to him later. Turns out, some first responders on the scene of the original crash found several guitars and stole them. But he has it back now, and continues to play it today. ❤️👏🏻🎸
Great story, thanks!
Love my 57 Les Paul standard. 🇺🇸🪴🌴🌅
I don't think I heard about the police stealing it, but I did see Peter post about getting it back on Facebook.
When "Frampton Comes Alive" dropped it took over the world. Back in the day when listening to FM radio was the most important and listened to media his album got huge air play.
And when you went to a friends house and flipped through their albums.....EVERYBODY had this one.
@@rubbersole79 I still have my copy from 1976....
I am 57, and this song filled so many blurry smoke filled scenes in my youth. Simply Perfect. This whole album rocked!
You stoner you, lol
I wonder how many of those double albums still have pot seeds in the crease?!?!?🤩
When we saw this live in 1975, it was the most revolutionary, groundbreaking musical performance we had ever seen. It's great that people are still being blown away by it.
We were totally spoiled in the 70s with extremely talented and creative musicians. Midnight Special, In-Concert, and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert brought us so many great concerts right in our living rooms. Even my mom watched with me when I was a teenager and she was 40 years my senior.
Oh the good ‘ol days!! 8 track players in every Dodge & Mustang!
I drove a VW Bug … 🚗💨
you guys got the good stuff....smfh
If you get a chance to see the 14 minute live video..EPIC!!
@justmare111…..those were the days!!! All my favorite shows!!! I’m 64 y/o now!!! It went so fast 💨
Certainly a Rock and Roll Classic. Stands the test of time easily.
Yep will be songs from the 70's and 80's live forever
1976 you had Frampton comes alive and Bostons debut. What a time to be alive
I love how Frampton looks like he really enjoys what he is doing on stage.
Peter Frampton is an English rock musician, singer, songwriter & producer. He was previously associated with the bands Humble Pie & The Herd. I had his famous 1976 album "Frampton Comes Alive". His biggest hits are "Show Me The Way," "Baby, I Love Your Way," "Do You Feel Like We Do" & "I'm In You". He was famous for using a talk box in live performances.
YESSSS - Show Me The Way
Voted "The UK Face of 1968" Peter spent his whole career demonstrating he was NOT just a " Pretty Face" and he grew up and went to Art College with David Bowie and Peter's Father taught David Bowie, Art !....They were both born and grew up within 10 miles of me in South East London.....
@@Isleofskye That’s so very cool 😎
Thanks Debra.
Take Care:)
But he lives in the usa from so far, nowever
Frampton comes alive is on the best live albums ever recorded. That is no joke. This song is one of my all-time classic tunes. Its just that good!! And seeing you guys smile and enjoy this as much as I am right now makes me so happy. Music in the 70s blows away anything nowadays.
And look how animated and happy Frampton he’s on stage playing the guitar and just shredding it.
And if you didn’t catch it with that voice modulator in his mouth, he says ”I want to f*** you”. Then he has that shit eating grin on his face after he says it. Go back and check it out you’ll see it
The line was "I want to thank you".
Heard this as a young teen and I was SOLD
The story about that black Les Paul guitar is incredible. Its worth seeing who he got it from and how it disappeared for many years in a plane crash and how he got it back !!.
My favorite Frampton song and probably most well known. I love how he makes the guitar talk with a voice box. Also check out Show Me the Way, Baby I Love Your Way, 30 Days in the Hole, and I'm in You.
30 days in the hole, one of the great humble-pie Tunes
WE used to run home on Friday nights to watch "The Midnight Special every week. They would have the top Rock, Blues, Motown R&B artists on every Friday Night at Midnight to 1:30 am. They would even sprinkle in the hot stand-up comics of the day like George Carlin. Steve Martin, and many others from the 70s. It was a great time to be a teen or young adult.
I can't believe anyone wouldn't feel happier after listening to Peter Frampton for a short while, it still works for me after all these years.
The 70s were a great time to be a teenager...
Asia & BJ, his "Show Me The Way" is equally epic!! His live album 'Frampton Comes Alive' was amazing and in everyone's collection back in the day!
That's for sure!!!
After Framptin Comes Alive, everybody put out a live album. They didn't sell very well til Frampton showed them the way.
@@markwilliams6394 nice play on words ✌️
@@markwilliams6394 Clever!! ✌️
It's still in my vinyl collection.....amazing album and so many great songs
The talk box is an amazing and simple invention by a country steel guitar player. Frampton saw him using it at Abbey Road in the UK and was so interested that the guy gave him the original prototype. For those who don't know, the guitar sound is routed to a small box with a speaker in it and the guitar is piped up to the users mouth through that tube, allowing them to "voice" the guitar. Simple and ingenious.
One of the greatest guitarist ever, And great singer, And so very beautiful. And so supportive of PBS. What a fine man.
Frampton still making the ladies smile like it's the 70s again....great stuff
Peter Framptom was a fine musician and a "fine!" musician! I was listening to an interview with Peter Frampton after I had lost my sight and my husband stopped and said "who is that?". When I said it was Frampton he said oh wow - I hate to tell you but he is completely bald!".
I replied "well, I still love you even though you've lost your hair!". He took me out to dinner...
Awwwwww 🥰
Master of "tone". His use of pedals and reverb are insane.
And he was such a cutie.
Definitely!
Nothing beats 70's music
Every true Rock n Roller has Frampton Comes Alive in their collection. Top 5 albums, possibly? Top 10 albums, absolutely!
It's a MUST to listen to Frampton's "ALIVE" album, the entire album! This is one of the best top 10 Live Albums ever! (along with Bob Seger's "Live Bullet" ;) Great reaction! Love you both!
You SHOULD HAVE played this song from his Frampton Comes Alive album... It's absolutely Musical Genius and Perfection! It's as iconic as Live Freebird, Stairway To Heaven ect..... Do yourselves a HUGE favor and listen to that recording!

Peter Frampton arguably one of the best guitarists of a lifetime
Peter Frampton was and still is the WORLDS GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME.
I saw him live in the 70's. Frampton Comes alive is the best live album ever.
Saw him just before Covid …. He’s so amazing. Older, bald but his sound never changes. When you are that talented, it never goes. His music is like a journey through sound. Great reaction. ❤️🫶🏻❤️. Don’t you guys wish you were in my generation? I keep saying we were the best music generation EVER. Pure undeniable talent. I love watching you guys love our music!
and soooooo many varieties of sound to choose from
I’ve been playing guitar for 30 years and even though this show happened before I was born, I still look at him as an icon.
EVERY teenager had this album! FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE!👊
Heck yea. Fabulous live performance. There’s a reason it’s one of the top 50 albums of all time
I like watching you young ones reacting to the music i heard as a teenager. I remember staying up late to catch the Midnight Special and all their guests performed live. When i first saw this I acted just like you all are right now.
Born in 92 and still jam out to Peter Frampton in 2023. sound's wicked and ahead of its time even in the 90s. nice content guys!
"Bob Mayo on the keyboards... Bob Mayo!" RIP
He's still performing, and hasn't lost a beat. This was a masterpiece.
He has some health problems that is effecting his motor skills, don't know if he has retired but he's not touring alot.
I love asiA and bj thanks for your show I am 63 and N old time rocker. Do band Boston more than a feeling mike
This brings back great memories of growing up in the 70's, this show was the highlight of every weekend, no lip syncing,no backing tracks everyone played live and it introduced a lot of legendary performer's to America
Frampton - one of the best guitarists of his time & one of the QUINTESSENTIAL examples of using a Talk Box pedal
I saw Frampton twice, in '75 and in '76 the two years when his Frampton Comes Alive album ruled the world. His opening act was Gary Wright who had the huge hit 'Dreamweaver.'
I saw him in the Morris County College NJ gym the night before this Album released on 1/5/76. We just thought he was the guitarist from Humble Pie. STUNNING PERFORMANCE! Once in a lifetime experience. Brought the house down!!
Fantastic memory!
This is truly "classic" rock... Peter Frampton was (and still is) an expert in making the guitar sing for itself either with a pick or using the voice box or any other way you cut it. Frampton Comes Alive was one of the very best albums ever produced. I am so glad you are able to appreciate his music.
Every teenage girl was crushin on Peter Frampton 🥰🥰🥰☮️💜
Peter Frampton and his mate Bob Mayo were a great combo; I saw him in concert and Peter just tore the house down. My friend never forgave him for losing all his hair that’s how much he was adored back in the mid-1970s.
Great show, you hit an underrated talent in Peter Frampton, I saw him at least 10 times, he was always around and on huge, multi-band bills. This is a signature song that he did often as an encore or just before. Great guitar player, too, he came from another classic Hard Rock band, Humble Pie. Their Live at the Filmore has Peter on it and is one of the best live albums, ever. Try Don't Need No Doctor, it is a tremendous banger. Enjoy! 🎸
Underrated? Never.
18 times for me
I consider Frampton a legend. Best player I've seen live.
I agree with you guys, not underrated for me, amazing performer and nice guy, we met him at his Merchandise Table many years ago, he was funny and kind for the time he was there.
I wouldn't say underrated by any means. He was the king of music when Frampton comes alive came out. It was all people were listening to.
This guy and this song took an entire summer before we stopped hearing it literally every 5 minutes…..great album, great song! ❤️🎼🎶❤️🤘😎🔥
And that's 40 years old! 😃
Ooh! He was such a cutie! All of us girls liked him. Good music. My 70's music again. Truly blessed.
I saw him in 2019 along with Paul Rodgers and Ann Wilson, It was billed as his final tour because he suffers from a rare disease that will hinder his ability to play guitar. He put on a great show and seems like a great guy. He was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis -- incurable inflammatory condition that causes muscles to weaken slowly.
Gosh I didn't know this...hey how was Ann Wilson?
I am a guy but I can see that , even at his age, which is similar to mine that my fellow South East Londoner still looks great:)
When Mick Taylor announced he was leaving the Rolling Stones in 1974, the calls went out and the auditions began. Jeff Beck got one, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman pushed Peter Frampton's name. So Peter got one too. The job ended up going to Ronnie Wood. All involved agreed with the decision. The 'rejection' didn't stop Peter's assault on the radio and the charts over the next couple years. So it worked out just fine for Peter too. Loved both your reactions. Bravo!! RNB
Peter Frampton was only 18 when he played with Humble Pie. He is crazy talented. We girls were all in love with him!
Frampton is another underrated guitarist in my opinion Frampton comes alive is fantastic a must have for any CD collection
Like the comment below says, the whole "Frampton Comes Alive" album is great. THE album to have back in 1976, and just about everybody did have this album. Give it a listen.
When Frampton was hot, he was HOT and everywhere all over the radio. He was a BIG deal. And yes, the ladies loved him.
You guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite music reaction channels. Such great personalities and beautiful people.
I said a few years ago: now that Peter Frampton is a retired potbellied old man with health problems, can we finally admit what a brilliant guitarist he's always been, and not just a pretty face with a guitar around his neck?
You are so disrespectful to even address anything concerning one of the Greats...
... and THAT is how a guitar legend is imprinted on music!
That was the cut in 1976, a rock masterpice, .
I sat front row in 2016 and watched him play this! Mind-blowing experience!! Peter Frampton is a Talk Box Master and, in my opinion, one of the most prolific guitarists in Rock History. Great song, Great reaction! Peace and Love!
Guys , you can’t imagine how huge this album was. I saw him at Arrowhead Stadium in the summer of 77 with Steve Miller Band and Styx. I was so in love. Saw him four more times between 77 and 2019. Still amazing!
She has a great smile.
Peter is 1 month older than me! We both turned 72 in March and April! I just play for personal enjoyment, but he plays for everyones enjoyment with his great chops!! on his own level! 👍🎶A master craftsman!!!
I saw Peter Frampton on his farewell tour in 2019 at Madison Square Garden in NYC. He was smiling, great interaction with the crowd, some cool stories, but his singing and guitar playing at 69 yrs of age was nearly flawless. Great, great show.
I'm jealous!
OH I REMEMBER WHEN THIS WAS PLAYED ON THE RADIO ALL THE TIME ..LOVE IT ..GREAT PIC GUYS ...
Frampton is the master of the talkbox. The sound of the guitar is coming through the tube in his mouth. And the mic is picking up the sound of the guitar coming out of his mouth.
I had the pleasure of seeing him live a few years ago. He's still a great player and sings great. A true legend.
You must listen to the album version - the greatest live recording of a song ever. Laying on your bed, in the dark, listening to this from Framptom Comes Alive is truly a quasi-religious experience.
The album Frampton Comes Alive was required listening in the late 1970's. It was everywhere for about two and a half years. This performance is slightly different than the album, but carries it's essence. The voice box effect he used is the same type that Joe Perry uses at the beginning of Sweet Emotion for Aerosmith.
He is on tour now!!! 2023
Frampton comes alive , the biggest selling live album of all time. Had 3 number one songs on it, that they played forever on the radio.
Frampton is using a guitar effects pedal called a talk box. A talk box is an effects unit that allows musicians to modify the sound of a musical instrument by shaping the frequency content of the sound by applying speech sounds onto the sounds of the instrument. Typically, a talk box directs sound from the instrument into the musician's mouth by means of a plastic tube adjacent to a vocal microphone. The musician controls the modification of the instrument's sound by changing the shape of his/her mouth and "vocalizing" the instrument's output from his/her mouth into a microphone.
Congrats guys you picked a great song and a great LIVE performance.
The best ending guitar solo to any live song ever….

Frampton comes alive..the whole album...you will love.
I lived through all that great music as I was a teen ager in the 1960. You wonder if any of use knew what we were experiencing. NO because there had never been the explosion of music like there was in the 1960 and 1970, but I will say, and any one that grow up them knows, music was everywhere and it the the center on everything. You didn't do anything without having music. It was so good you never, thought it would end. It was a fact of life that music was the best thing in your life. Young people became musician back then but now computers have taken all that away. Computers have taken everyone's attention, time, and energy. There will never be another time like it. It was truly an unforgettable time and even though I'm old now I can still feel the joy of it, the emotions of it.
Nice job as always guys. Somebody may have already answered your question regarding how the talk box works, but just in case:
The “talk box” is a unique effect that allows you to modify an audio signal - most commonly a guitar sound - using the player's mouth as a filter to shape the sound. The talk box itself consists of a box, in which a speaker (often a compression driver) feeds into a plastic tube.
Yes, Joe walsh is also know for using the talk box before Frampton. The early talk boxes were sometimes dangerous and had shattered the teeth of some that used it until in was refined.
@@Prozak63 yes, I used one for awhile back in the early eighties.
@@Dougwarren69 🤟😜
There were a lot of great LIVE albums in the 70s, this was in the top 10. He can still play. 👍👍👍
My hubby’s favorite song and singer! He got to see him live and never looked back. We had the most awesome music growing up. This is less than 20yrs after Elvis turned all of the tables upside down. Lots of “Dirty Dianna’s” out there. Cool and composed while he’s on stage.
Frampton played with Humble Pie for awhile. You would love their tunes, "I Don't Need No Doctor", "30 Days in the Hole", and "Black Coffee". Great band.
"Natural Born Woman or Boogie" lol
This crowd must've been asleep! Check out the version on "Frampton Comes Alive"...Pete is a great rock player, has written some great tunes, and most importantly, he is a genuinely nice guy.
My thoughts exactly! In the live concert version, the audience got it!
It's basically the sound of a speaker is sent up the hose, so when you put it in your mouth, your mouth becomes a speaker cabinet, which makes it louder, and the mic picks up the echo of the guitar coming out of your mouth. Then you shape your mouth like you would when you speak, but instead of your voice, it's the guitar sound coming out of your mouth. It's using the microphone to amplify the guitar, via a pit stop in your mouth.
this is how rock'n roll servived the 70's
The first album I've ever bought! Thank you so much for showing this! Love you both and love your energy! Family over everything!
The device is called a talk box. What he plays on the guitar is sent through the tube in his mouth and he can shape the sounds with his mouth (make it talk)!
Frampton is a Rock n Roll legend 🎸🤘🤘
This man here Peter Frampton, is a monster on Guitar!
Best hangover line ever. "Whose wine? What wine? Where the hell did I dine?" The Midnight special was a great show. so many great artist.
he was the real deal brothers and sisters
Wow I saw him with Ted Nugget and Aerosmith in Seattle back in the 70s great concert and memories. Thanks you two Beautiful people.❤️🙏🏼
Peter Frampton top ten guitarists...got in accident, busted up his hands!!! Plays today😄😄😍😍
This was a favorite song of nighttime DJ's back in the day. They could put this record on, go to the bathroom, visit the coffee machine, make a phone call, have a smoke break, and still get back with time to spare.
Yes. Peter was known as a guitar beast. Watching this….I agree.
Peter Frampton is one of my favorites from growing up! Listening to the live version of this song is a must! So much better than any of the other versions. Actually, Peter Frampton live album is the best!
Peter Frampton, Rik Emmet, Sammy Hagar are all like fine wines, they get better with age.
They still amaze me.
46 years old and still a killer song.
There was a good reason why we stayed up until midnight to watch that show.
I graduated from HS in '76. This song, from Frampton Comes Alive, was the ish, for real. Whether you react to it or not, you have to give a listen. I got to see Frampton on his acoustic tour, a few years back, in Albany, NY. His son opened for him, and I was able to have a conversation with him about his father and his music back then. And what it meant to my generation. Very cool and memorable experience. Nice reaction. Lines on my Face is also a nice song. Peace
Peter Frampton and his 'Talking Guitar'!
'Frampton Comes Alive' is one of the best selling albums of all time. I think every household had a copy on vinyl back then. I know ours did.
