    Thanks for posting this! I like the house rules as you explained them. I also agree with Chris that Sealion is rarely a winning strategy, and that "abandon China" is death for Japan. I'm glad he tried, though, so you can see the possibilities in your new rules set.
    I really like the little bases for cranking out infantry/transports! That will be a game-changer, for sure! A bit pricey, but definitely worth considering for places like Africa and Middle East. Great addition, guys!

      The Hilltop Pillbox thanks! I think he was going for surprise with the abandon China strategy, but I agree it needs to be retired.

    Chris and Brian. this video was very enjoyable to watch both because you attempted an out of the box strategy as well as the creation of house rules to make your play more enjoyable. for that reason, the negative comments below make me think of something my mother told me one time: "if you can't say something nice about something don't say anything at all." that said, I think you are moving in the right direction to rebalance towards the axis. probably, the China house rule is a little bit much. however, in this game 12 with Chris pursuing naval strategy of the pacific, it probably would not have made much of a difference. what would have made a big difference was Japan pressing into Russia or dominating the money islands early while prepping for Amphib attack on India. Never allow Australia PNG beyond round 3. Hawaii could have been taken very early on by sacrificing a penance of two transports. Fully loading them would have withheld the islands to keep American bonus away quite a while. if things look too unhappy on the Eurasian landmass than simply taking Sydney would've won the game for the axis. for that reason I would tend to argue that you could not call this game in the favor of the allies however certainly needed to quit the game and starting fresh again for your own enjoyment. so everybody keep calm and carry-on

    Great videos to watch!
    I do disagree with the conclusions about the rules needing rebalancing though. Saying "Sealion is never viable" isn't fair here - in your game the UK does a very conservative UK1 and UK2 buy (though the Taranto was probably questionable) then Sealion *shouldn't* be viable. The Axis' greatest strength is the ability to be mobile and threaten multiple targets, forcing a response and then attacking elsewhere. As you mentioned, you have to threaten a Sealion or else Italy gets crushed, but if UK does a conservative London buy like that, then drop a stack of mech and tanks and hit Russia.
    One strategy that I think is really effective is holding some or all of your money G1 - it's a little counterintuitive that not buying something could be a good move, but having so many IPCs for G2 still threatens SL enough to keep the UK honest, but it doesn't take away from your push towards Russia if the UK reacts defensively and buys 6inf 1 ftr. I like it more than the G1 carrier buy since is a carrier is 4 mech not going to Moscow.
    Also, a Japan who doesn't get a single threat from the US Pacific for 6 turns should probably be able to take China, the Money Islands, and either India or Calcutta. Seeing so many ships not doing anything hurt a little :) there were some good blocker usage on the allies side, if the axis player gets more comfortable using that, they might be less tempted to feel they have to death-ball Japan's navy.
    I haven't played with these rules or anything, so it's totally possible the allies are super imbalanced, but I think it didn't look to me that's why the allies won.

    could you do a video about the table you play on maybe?

    • @chrislavigne4478
      @chrislavigne4478 7 років тому

      Ian Rogers -- not much to report on; its Young Grasshopper's file (available on the forums, we used "with ghost box option") and sent the file to a print shop who used a reinforced foam core board (I think its called gorilla board or something) and then plopped it down on some plastic folding tables. Nothing like the tables others have. Our board is a large improvement, but the print option available required the print shop to laminate the board so it has a glossy finish, which is OK, but it has a reflection you can sometimes see in the video. Wish we had a matte finish, but we will do that on the next print job.

    clearly it’s the europe side of the board when there are japanese troops on it in the first few turns

    I would recommend if you do a Chinese partisan rule it should be max 1 infantry a turn. 1 infantry per territory seems ridiculously overpowered. And if you are playing Chinese partisans what about Soviets? There were over 100,000 German troops hunting Soviet partisans on the Eastern Front

    Japan didn't even take the money islands properly.

    japan was not as aggressive as it should have been. those american subs defended hawaii well. Germany let russia advance into the homeland. could've easily prevented

    Your house rules ensure Allies ALWAYS win. The Chinese partisan rule is crazy(!): either Japan abandons the mainland or must waste one infantry per territory it conquers. In no other area, and for no other nation, must resources be wasted in this way. Is it not enough that China can place new builds ANYWHERE, even in newly conquered territories??? Also, what is this CRAP about UK being able to relocate European capital to Canada??? So, the Capital conquest rules don't apply to European UK, but do apply to the Axis powers, such as Italy. Hmmmm. I watched this video hoping that the two of you realized how ludicrous your house rules are. Regretfully, I wasted another hour watching this ridiculous excuse of a game, which is no longer G40 A&A.

      Craig Simmons as I mentioned on your other comment, it's just a game, man. But we do invite honest critiques.
