as much as I enjoy Patrick Stewart as an actor (first time I saw him with a full head of hair ) after I saw both adaptations I quite agree Richard Armbridge is John Thorton (although I wish they had kept in deleted scenes also they omitted the scene of John carrying Margaret into the living room after her injury which the 75 adaptation put in movie
In my opinion this is the best period drama ever made. I have honestly never seen anything to match it. The railway scene at the end.. my God!! Romantic & erotic at the same time. Margaret, you lucky, lucky girl!!
This so beautiful!! I very well done i absolutely love it! It has basically all of the essences i love about North & South. Thank you so much for sharing this :D
Though I loved North and South bbc, I never liked the scene they added where he beats the guy up. This did not happen in the book. In the book he was never a violent man!
@@sasthra3159 it's more nuanced in the book and harder to explain quickly in film imo. They took a shortcut by having him beat up the guy for the quick shock factor. Film adaptations always have to condense and hence compromise a bit. I do think the violence is out of character for Mr. Thornton. In the book, she is used to aristocratic life in London and those people look down on someone like Mr. Thornton who makes money by working. The nobility in England don't work, their money is generated by their estates. Mr. Thornton does not have the social ease of someone used to high society, nor does he have the cultural background and education to discuss art, literature, etc. Basically, he is different, from a lower class than she is used to and also boring. He is also a bit tongue tied for similar reasons - he thought Mr. Hale had a little girl for a daughter and wasn't expecting a lady with grand airs. He feels out of his league. I don't think Margaret hates Mr. Thornton on first impression, but she definitely doesn't find his personality appealing.
This is right up my alley! I'm a bisexual who loves BBC movies, so I'm crushing hard on both of these super adorable leads. But especially Richard Armitage. He's so pretty.
OMG ditto! While watching I couldn't decide if I was more into her or him..... By the time he was proposing to her, I realized how silly it was that I couldn't decide..... because DAMN.... that man is just WOW!
Pride & Prejudice, in either a 6 part mini-series or a 2 hour movie. Also, "Wives and Daughters" based on a book by the same author as "North and South."
If you haven’t seen the 1985 & 1987 Anne of Green gables, I highly recommend them. They’ve surprisingly held up really well and also have an unrequited, love/hate central romance.
could someone here please tell me where I can watch the whole movie for free…I'd like to order the dvd from ebay, amazon or bbc but they come in region 1, as my country is in region 3….I really want to have the complete dvd…pleaseeee someone help
OMDUBBS I honestly cannot imagine anyone else playing him, he's officially THE mr Thornton. LOVE THE BOOK AND MOVIE
Madison Landry: HE IS REALLY " T H E M R T H O R N T ON" !!! PERFECT AND INIMITABLE!!!
