I feel that they couldn't have chosen better actors to be paired together for this period piece. They have both mentioned in interviews that the chemistry was already there between them and they didn't have to manufacture anything and it definitely shows!
Music moving and acting superb.. So much unnecessary misunderstanding between two handsome beings. Understandable as the setting is two hundred years ago.. But a beautiful romance with good ending.. Cheers
Mr. Thornton is the only male lead character that has ever made me feel something, he's poignant eyes, tall dark and handsome....what an amazing actor!
John Thornton is a wonderful fictional character brought to life by Richard Armitage's sublime performance. Up there with the best.
Absolutely beautiful!! Gorgeous song for the most beautiful and romantic ending to any film.. Please take me home Mr Thornton!!! No-one else could have played that part so well, he goes from dark and broody to almost in awe to finally be accepted, such a look in his eyes. Have seen N&S many times now and i always have tingles up my back! All girls deserve a love scene like that!

Thank you. Makes sense. Wasn't paying close enough attention to the dialogue between Thornton and the policeman in the morgue, I'm guessing. But the guy is referenced as "Lennox", like on the stairs between Thornton and the policeman. But like someone said - Who cares! Watch Armitage! Yes!

I think this is a great song. It says it all. It is funny for the first time I am really in love with one man only. I have been for a while but I keep this feeling in a silent place in my heart. I don't know if it would go any place any way. It might all be in vian. I know I can't express my love so any one who can write a love song I admire. A great song and video. :)

Another amusings language problem - in the proposal scene Margaret says something along the lines of: ".. because you are in trade and are orange and my father is in reduced circumstances..." :-) Now I I know she has "got" to be saying something other than "orange" :-) but for the life of me I can't tussel it out! Anybody out there know what she is saying?

I have a question. I have finally seen "North&South". Great BBC film - they hit one out of the ballpark and Richard Armitage - yes! But I am puzzled by a sub-plot in the 3rd episode (I think). "Voucher" (sp?) kills himself I'm guessing. But who kills "Lennox", the guy who tussels with the brother at the train station? Is it suppose to be obvious? Or is it a loose end that doesn't matter?

My favorite garbled part is when Thornton speaks for the first time at the proposal scene - WHAT is he saying about the apples? :-) And, yes, I do know it doesn't matter because Himself is speaking but I do wonder. :-)

The film is available in Germany, I have found it by conincidence in a bookshop. It is really one of the best films I have ever seen, so watch it! (Ich würde dir nur empfehlen, ihn im Originalton anzuschauen, die Synchronisation ist ziemlich sch..., aber das ist ja meistens so.)
