You know something crazy? I used to wear makeup because I felt I needed it. I was dating a guy at the time. We dated before I got into makeup and during it. One day, he said that he missed my natural face. I was surprised. I thought he preferred me with my makeup. Turned out he liked me for who I am. No longer together, but I still cherish what he did for me. I feel comfortable in my skin now, natural or dolled up. 🤗🤗

His words were deeper than what u think. If u leave the house w/glossy lips or lipstick, men's eyes are going to be drawn straight to your lips. If u have on mascara/lashes it draws attention to your eyes. What man wants other men looking at his lady's popping lips &beautiful eyes lol. Men know exactly what they're doing when they say that. If you love that makeup enhances your already beautiful features then do what makes u happy!

My first fiance used to always ask me to take off my makeup whenever I wore it. He really preferred my bare skin. I was having fun with makeup though, so wore it anyway. But it was a nice vote of confidence that someone thought I was beautiful just as I woke up each day.

I think most women look great without makeup or very little. I don't put on a lot of makeup and I never use foundation because I hate it. I rarely use makeup except when I go out on the weekends or something like that. People have even told me they don't see any makeup on my face because I use very little just to brighten myself up a bit. If you don't want to wear makeup, just don't. Why make yourself miserable for a bunch of nobodies that don't matter?

I've gone foundation free these last couple of years, after literally never leaving the house without it for 25+ years. It is freeing. I cut my hair short, stopped wearing underwire bras, and mostly only wear sweats and t-shirts. I feel so much more myself these last couple of years. Also started dyeing my hair wild colors. All things I never would have dared do a few years earlier.

@@juststartingover2735 I felt like that about my grays when they first started coming in. My natural hair color became dull and an ugly shade of grayish brown. I started using Castor oil and omg, it totally revived my hair. It got darker and people are complimenting me on how healthy it looks now. I haven't dyed my hair in probably over a year and my grays don't bother me anymore because I'm loving how healthy my hair looks and feels now. I'm getting old and it is what it is. It makes me so happy when older women liberate themselves too. My mother stopped wearing make-up when she retired from her job (neither one of us ever wore an underwire bra btw ;))...it wasn't mandatory there, but more or less expected. She thought that she'd get an even worse reputation (they did not like her) if she didn't wear make-up. The dark circles she always had and were the main reason she lathered on the make-up are now gone. It's like make-up is there to cover up how little we get to sleep, how shitty we feel, how toxic hustle culture is to us.
I was always the weirdo who refused make-up and high heels. Never even had my ears pierced because again, no desire. If I was a teen now, I'd probably think that I was trans and maybe make a terrible mistake but I know I'm not. I have no desire to be a man, I just don't want to ruin my feet, slather my face, wear clothing that feels horrible (underwire bras) and spend hours on my hair just because I am a woman. I remove most body hair because I feel like I smell better and wear dresses sometimes because I like them. So really I just want to be myself, in the female body I was born in.
When I was in high school, one of the main things I had to keep in mind when deciding on possible careers was whether a career required women to wear make-up and high heels. Anything that did was out.

I think the pandemic encouraged a lot of people to wear less makeup (especially me) Being home all the time and wearing a mask made it less of a “need”. Which might be a reason why skincare has really taken off, people want to feel comfortable in their own skin since they spent more time with themselves. Just a thought! Btw your bare skin is AMAZING

So true! I work from home and now I wear makeup like once a week, and it's not even foundation anymore, just a bit of color corrector and concealer under the eyes, and a touch of powder. I started liking the look of skin just being skin.

I have been wearing full face makeup my whole life and since the pandemic I have barely put makeup on. I always had trust issues as I have acne prone skin but not wearing makeup has been an eye opener. My skin has cleared and I get fewer pimples when I do. I started a skincare routine which has completely saved my life though not having "perfect" skin.
During the first few months of the pandemic of not wearing makeup, my skin started improving and I came to realise that my skin looked much better without it. My complexion was much brighter and since then I have stopped wearing foundation, blushes, powder etc. I only apply some lipstick or eyeshadow if ever I want some glam. That's it. I feel more confident now going out bare skin; not afraid of people judging me anymore and I even tossed out all my foundation bottles.

This happened to me while working at Sephora. I started out loving makeup and by the end it was just another chore to do before work. It’s been a year or so since I’ve done a full face of makeup and I still don’t get as excited to do it just because it was such a chore for so long. It’s sucks that society makes us feel like we need to wear makeup to be “presentable”. Now I can go out without makeup on and feel confident in my own skin. :) Skin care is empowering and makes me feel confident enough without wearing makeup anymore.

I've always been nervous to wear makeup because I didn't want to have it turn out badly, or have people think I'm just doing it for attention. The issue of wearing or not wearing makeup for self-esteem can go both ways. You can feel more secure with a full face of makeup or you feel you are too visable. When I was a young teenager my mother used to point out how many boys or men stare at me when we were out together. I think she thought she was boosting my self esteem but it had the opposite effect. I never told my mom or dad that I had already been sexually molested by strangers passing me on the street. When she told me that I was attractive and that's why they were staring told me that if I wasn't attractive then I wouldn't continue to get sexually assaulted. Then my dad died when I was 20 and it felt like my shield went with him. Then I started not caring about my weight. I thought if I got fat then no one would think I was pretty and the unwanted attention would go away. It didn't. I was 115lbs, 5'8" and a DD. I was propositioned by old men who showed lot's of money and said it would be mine if I showed them a good time. It took me 30yrs and lots of therapy to realize that the issue wasn't how I looked, it wasn't my fault that I got assaulted it was theirs. I lost so much time believing that others had the power to control my life. Now I am in my late 50's, I lost those 50lbs and am more confident then I have ever been, with or without makeup. I remember hearing that you should never give that much power to anyone over your own thoughts, but that is rough and very difficult to do. I think that makeup should be used for fun but that we need to embrace what we look like underneath it all. I am now comfortable going out with or without makeup. It is now my choice and no one else's. Cassandra you are beautiful bare faced, and it sounds like you have come to terms with how you want to live your life and it's not to please anyone else but yourself if you wear or don't wear makeup. Thank you for sharing such difficult memories. ❤️

Thanks for posting. I am 33, but your story and mine are so similar. My mother always pointed things out, I was SA'd young, only 5'2" but a 32DD as a young teen and about 100 lbs. I've has old men approach me on the street, teachers tried things, even my friends fathers. It left me defeated for a long time. I am lucky that even tho my dad is 70, I still have him, but I understand what u mean about your shield being gone, as he lives 15 hrs away in Florida now. Thank you for sharing your story, it made me feel a little less alone. I am having and hsve been having some , since I had my daughter in June 2019 betwee being stuck in the hospital due to my health and hers for 3 weeks(for me) and 8 weeks(for her), then getting out and having last muscle damage, being heavier than I've ever been, not being able to tske care of myself at all the first few months and then the pandemic when she wasn't even 1 yet. It's been a wild ride, im sorry, im ranting. It's nice to see others sharing their stories. Thank you so much. You are amazing!

@@funsizedi88 thank you for your reply too! I wish you the best as you continue on your journey. Remember, for yourself, how good of a person you are and that if you feel better about yourself, you don't feel as miserable when others have good things happening in their life. Now I can appreciate the difficulties other people have and that it can make them feel sad and lash out at others. Doesn't make it right that they say nasty things but there is misery behind those comments. This pandemic has done a number on all of us. All we can do now is lean on our friends and family and start building our lives again.

What does it mean being sexually molested by strangers passing you on the street?
Just because a man stares at you/makes you a compliment/whistle at you doesn't mean he's a creep. Women stare as well and act pretty much the same like men when around a very attractive specimen. Is in our biology.
Yes, one man might grab you and invade your personal space, but this is a rare occurence. The rest of them just act silly. We all been there, but the way you put it sounds like you might have a persecution complex.
Many women have this deep embedded belief that men are creeps, that's why good ones avoid them like plague.

100% relatable. I stopped wearing makeup about 6 years ago. It was a process, one month I stopped wearing mascara, the next foundation, the next eyeliner, etc. until I was makeup-less. The first year was a bit of a struggle because I was out of my comfort zone without makeup. I knew/saw myself more with makeup vs without. I felt a temporary insecurity that resulted in a permanent security in myself. Well Worth It! My skin and confidence has never looked better. My husband compliments me all the time.

My skin has been the best it’s ever been thanks to your very informative videos and it’s also given me a confidence boost. I was very comfortable with my appearance and loved just being ‘me’. It was strange to feel more confident when I didn’t feel less confident before. I think it comes down to my inner beauty was shining a little brighter. Thank you for your vulnerability in this video! It is refreshing and inspiring. After a couple of months of COVID lockdown, I started wearing makeup less and less often. Wearing makeup always felt like a chore that was required to look professional, but with Zoom filters, I realized I could "get away with" not wearing makeup. Eventually, I got comfortable not wearing makeup at all, even out in public. Now, I spend the time that I used to spend on makeup doing skincare, which I actually enjoy, and I feel so much more comfortable in my skin. Now, I only wear makeup when and how I want to, and so it's fun and expressive rather than a chore. ❤

I'm old enough to have seen several cycles of heavy makeup and no makeup looks cycle through fashion. I think if you are in beauty professions the norms are very different. Speaking as a professional woman living in a middle class suburb, if someone of any age turned up in full face Kardashian makeup they would look bizarre. People just don't wear that much day to day, except maybe behind the MAC counter. I also totally remember recovering from acne in my late teens and how freeing it was to let go of foundation. I'm sad to hear that teens with acne still don't get timely medical intervention still use terrible harsh products and still feel they need to plaster on foundation. If a teen got timely treatment they wouldn't have scars and feel horrible for years after.

    • @liladuran8733

I agree that most people don't wear a kardashian face daily, but I also feel like I know few professional women who wear no makeup. Most women I know have a routine including at least 3 products, some combo of eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, concealer, and lipstick. I do feel out of place wearing absolutely nothing and I have felt pressure to at least wear *something*, anything, especially to interviews.

I was a teen in thr early to mid 2000s, and in my experience, my parents wrote off teen acne like it was normal. My mother was a "just get over it, you will be wearing mske up for the rest of your life anyway." She is 60 now and I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen her without make up. I'm 33 and for the last 8 years, I haven't worn make up on a daily or regular basis. It feels so freeing. I don't want my daughter to feel like she has to wear make up, like my mother did.

I have been focusing on being so good at my job that I don't need make up to feel like I belong, and it feels great! Hope everyone here gets to feel happy and comfortable at work, doing whatever makes them happy (be that wearing makeup or not, doing their hair or not)!

Cassandra, you are light and an inspiration! Truly beautiful inside and out. I have struggled with adult acne for over 30 years, the scars go so much deeper than the surface of my skin. Actually, my skin isn't very scarred at all really, but my self image is scarred something awful... I will not even answer the door if I haven't put my makeup on, let alone even think of leaving the house without it. I did, one time, to go to the dermatologist. That resulted in a full blown panic attack, something I had never experienced before. I literally felt as though I was completely naked walking through the parking lot, and into the very public and busy office. It was awful. I hope someday to be able to heal both the internal and external scars, and stop living behind the mask of my makeup.

Honestly, I think we do it because we want to be liked. We know people are attracted to beauty and when we internally find ourselves lacking or feeling lonely, we try to find ways to "glamorize" ourselves and others.
My whole life people told me I looked better without makeup. I didn't believe that because I wasn't comfortable with how I looked myself.

I woke up one day and realized for 30 plus years I was a slave to what others thought of how I looked. Once the makeup came off I found myself being more confident about everything! I CAN do anything and speak my mind wi fear of what others think. I still like to wear it occasionally and I love skincare but I couldn't watch other channels because they didn't speak to me. Oh this is such a big topic in my mind! When I was in my teens / early 20's I could NOT even go to the store without makeup. My younger brothers asked my step mom about it, and I'll never forget her saying "That's her armor." It does make you feel protected, like a shield from the world because you just don't feel good enough. This was before full glam and BeauTube was even a thing really. Later on I had kids, depression, just a whole host of things going on and I stopped caring... then one day I realized I didn't wear makeup anymore! It was so freeing, and strange. Now I love skincare and makeup again, but I never want to feel like I MUST have it. It really irks me too 'cause there are people out there (one is my best friend, generally a great guy) who thinks women SHOULD wear makeup, like some form of uniform. Yet when I got back into makeup, he tells me "You don't need that." because I'm married. He's working on himself and his views of women / fashion / acceptance, lol. There's also recognizing pretty privilege too -- not all of us are so cute without makeup. Anyway, seriously just a topic that lives rent free in my head, lol.

Fact is that it is more like the opposite. You look beautiful just as you are. Too many influencers use bright lights and filters that make their skin look flawless. I love the message of this video. I grew up with a lot of brothers and no girls in my family so makeup was never a thing I learned properly. I know basics of mascara and light foundation. That’s glam to me. So daily people never see me with makeup only moisturiser, vaccaline on my eyelashes and lip balm. A lot of my friends tell me that they’re jealous of my skin because I look so young in comparison to them / that I never have spots (never really ever had spots either) and that the compliments on my eyelashes because I’ve helped them grow rather than having mascara strip them is the best compliments. Take care of your skin and enhance your assets don’t hide and damage them I say. Makeup is still great but then when you wear it occasionally for glam you feel all the better and people notice it and compliment the glam rather than having people say you look tired because makeup being worn always drys and tires the skin.

I have noticed the difference in you, in your videos, and you are simply glowing. Your smile lights up the room now. Your confidence is up. And you're much more upbeat. I haven't worn makeup in 6 or 7 years and it felt so good not having to do it everyday. Even when I got out I almost never wear any.

I almost never comment on videos, but I just had to thank you. I really needed to hear this today.

I wore makeup every day until somewhere in my 30's. When I stopped, I didn't realize how many things I was avoiding. I hid from the rain and avoided weather and activities that would make me sweat. It's a liberating feeling to be able to splash your face with water without worrying about makeup. I also never got compliments on my skin until I stopped wearing makeup. I honestly think my skin got nicer after I stopped covering it up with so many layers of crap.
Also, don't obsess over sun screen. Wear it if you're going to be outside most of the day, but don't wear it if you're just going to work and back. Protect your face from prolonged exposure and burns, but don't be afraid of getting a little sun. It gives your face some natural sun-kissed contour and you look healthier.

I haven’t worn makeup in such a long time and it is so freeing. It also has helped out my skin and acne so much. Yeah I still get breakouts here and there but it’s gotten so much better
