A question that we get asked frequently is "Why did y'all become minimalists? What's your story?". In our case, we don't think there is a singular answer; what we have is a collection of stories and experiences that, over time, influenced our outlook on life. Our original script for the story about this 30-day trip was more than double in length, but we thought: Who would want to listen to us reminisce for 15 minutes? 😂 So we controlled ourselves. Should we make these type of Storytime videos into a series? Maybe a longer audio episode as a podcast? 🤔 Let us know what you think! (And don't forget to LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!)
Would love the listen to the rest of it! How bout u guys break it over a few videos? More content for you guys and us too. But YT does like them long ones these days. Up to u guys! Thanks for making these! Fellow SG salutes u!
We need more pls, loved stories like these. I believe its even more important these days, as fast media becomes the norm, more meaningful relatable content are getting lost to editing process.
“We downgraded our lifestyles, but upgraded our lives.” This line really resonated with me being on the opposite end of the spectrum from you. We are now retired, but I see how this thought process could benefit us greatly in our retirement. Thanks!
Awesome video! I was an chemical and pharmaceutical engineer for 10 years, on the safe career path, and utterly unhappy with my life. I quit my job a few years ago and started traveling and realized the same things as what you shared in this video - it doesn't take a lot to be truly happy, our dreams are important and worth slowing down for and that no one else, but ourselves, can fulfill our dreams. I came back to Singapore and started a job as a coder, something that I thoroughly enjoyed doing during my travels, and I've never been happier :).
this is something i always wanted to inculcate in my children. to be self contented and not caught up in a life that is dictated by others. Walk the path less travelled and you will find your own special place in life.
I feel like the tendency to compare my life to my peers' lives was one of the biggest joy-killers for me. In contrast, learning to cultivate contentment has been one of the biggest breakthroughs in my peace of mind and everyday joy. I really enjoyed this story time - please keep making more videos like this!
Thank you for your video. I have noticed that when I have more things, I begin to feel overwhelmed. I have learned that having just the clothes I wear and Love saves me time dressing, money, and space. Thank you again.
Thanks for sharing. Very thought-provoking indeed. I had also recently quit my job to refocus on myself, mainly health. Though in these covid times, many people around me had tried to dissuade me but all that truly matters, is really what I myself feel/think. It’s important that we know that other’s opinions can be considered but shall not dictate our lives. Appreciate such videos, truly.
Ive been thinking of going minimalist because I’ve had so much clutter in my life from my family life. Though I wont be a pure minimalist due to my love of books.
thank you guys for making this! as a self-employed person feeling the lack of work in recent times, this really helps me reframe my way of thinking and realise that a lot of pressures i'm facing are external forces that i impose on myself, versus what i actually want.
It is a great video. I think burned out is real when u work on something and it didn’t work out the way you expected. Of course, many things in life don’t work the way we expected it to be too but working on something you like before you succeed is a lonely journey! Great job!
It is an awesome video, showing your fears and thoughts that more or less everyone of us shares when doing the "not so ordinary/expected" from society, relatives and friends. I think it takes courage to explore what do you really like and have the introspection and make the outcome the guide on your lives. I'd love to have more videos in this format, but I'd like to see your faces, it was weird to see the video seeing HL's torso and not the face, it's about understanding better what you are saying by reading the lips which help a lot with non-native English speakers like me. Keep being awesome.
A very inspiring video to what is a counter-cultural lifestyle. Mimetic desire (the desire to desire the things that people around us desire) is very strong and what most people desire is shaped by strong cultural assumptions and big advertising. I'm glad you persevered and thanks for your content.
Thank you very much for sharing this story! Both of you guys journey are amazing! I too quitted my old job to pursue my art and living my own because of those "noises", it was truly challenging having a big responsibility, but at the same time it's worth it 😊
After seeing and experience some life threatening situations you will understand that cultivating contentment is the most important thing. Not career, possessions, false friends and expectations etc. Life can be over at any moment and you also get older. So just live now. Therefor I reduce my worktime to spend more time with my family, friends and myself.
A very reaffirming video. The point is that we must not let other define what success is. It’s good to here other people (Thoughtworthy) have figured this out too!
15 minutes, 30 minutes, or a longer podcast, I will always listen to your life stories and experiences. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It helps me realize that it is okay to not be a part of a never-ending race. I hope both of you have a wonderful time.
This video couldn‘t have come at a better time for me! I have been working as an accountant for 15 years now, I started the apprenticeship at the age of 15. Even back then I wanted to do something else, but at that time it wasn‘t possible for me. At the age of 16 I met my husband and in all those years I still didn’t quit the job I absolutely hate, because we had the goal of buying our own apartment. We reached that goal in March this year, but it wasn‘t what we expected and we were massively disappointed. At least it gives us some form of security financially. Now we decided it is finally time for me to quit my job and do what I love, I’ll start studying game design next year and I couldn‘t be happier😊 even though it means we have to be content with less in the future
Those takeaways are so good. I've been learning recently that it's okay to go slower than the people around me. The part of this video about patience was a good reminder of that. Thanks for the video!
Lovely! One of your best videos so far. This kind of experiences are so useful for many people that are struggling with society stablished must’s. I have the same feelings and stress one time until I realize that more things are equal to more problems, big things are equal to big problems. The most valuable things we have in life are time, health and peace. Money and items only are only tools that should help us to achieve these three objectives but, usually, get us exactly the opposite. Thanks for sharing.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING! Man, that trip sounds like a real treat and came in at such a great time for you guys, otherwise we probably won't be here enjoying the things yall put out. Definitely more of such videos next time!
thanks for that.....im thinking of going back into my regular job after quitting because of the uncertainties. You made me think otherwise...gonna press on and pursue what i want to for now. Would like to hear more stories of how you and GLO manage each other as couple, both your expectations of each other and how you guys manage differences in a working r/s. Have a wonderful week ahead!
I can relate to the your story... But I haven't traveled at all. I quit my job right before the pandemics, so no traveling. I wish I could try things out, travel, get to know other people, find something new that i like. I'd love it you could tell more about this story!
There's no right time for a pandemic, but it sounds like the pandemic came at a particularly bad time for your plans! Hopefully things get better and you'll get to travel soon :) All the best!
Please share more how you deal with traveling and working all together? How you deal with the temptation of nice tourist places around the corner and not being distracted from your goals?
Hey! Our intentions were quite clear when we went on this trip, so that already set the tone. And when we picked our accommodation, we weren't too particular about location as our intention was to stay "home" and work most of the time. It may be somewhat inconvenient (from a tourist's perspective) but being far away from the city's center where all the action is, ensured that we stay focused. Good questions, we may elaborate on our answer in a future newsletter. Consider subscribing to it on our website if you're interested. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this awesome story. When the lock down comes to an end, i will be happy to take a little trip like you did * - * This social pression to be perfect in some things doesn't help at all xD
just found your channel and not many locals are minimalists. Seems like all the minimalism videos I have watched are all from the western part of the world. Nice videos!
Another great video. Glad that you enjoyed your time here in Bkk, TH. I am also in this trajectory and frequently thinking that is this all there is to it but why risk it. This pandemic shows that I am in a good position (career and financial wise) but it is also killing me inside.
I'm pretty relieved that I live in the timeline that you guys didn't quit because you guys are like my spirit guides in this journey of minimalism-- although I completely understand the worries and doubt. Thank you for sharing that part to us. Did you guys vlog your days in Bangkok? Or did you decide to embrace the moment and excluded the cameras? Either way, I'm glad you guys were living in the moment :)
We didn't make videos for UA-cam until 2019 (the trip was in 2016 and we brought our camera for other purposes), so we didn't vlog our days there. Actually, we still can't imagine ourselves being the vlogging types even though we're on UA-cam now 😅 We're grateful to be here as well, the community is great! Thank you for being part of it :)

I can totally relate to being the responsible one and playing it safe. I'm saving so I can quit my job so we can open a business of our own. I really enjoyed the animation in this video :)
It took me longer to come around to the idea of following my passion. Good for you for placing higher value on happiness than on keeping up with societies expectations. I liked this style video and am curious about other stories that have shaped your lifestyle.
I would be interested to know which books do you read... and all appliances and devices you own in your beautiful and unique minimalist life More about curiosity would be a whole day in your life, what time you get up, working schedule, work out program, meal time... You ask our requests and here are a few ideas
Love you guys so much !❤️❤️ I can resonate so strongly with your story, I'm also currently rebuilding my life after realizing I need to stop chasing other people's ideal, and instead focus on what's truly important to me. Theres nothing more painful than living a life full of what ifs and regrets. There really comes a point where fulfillment is more than just money.. It's definitely not an easy journey but at least I honored myself enough to do it 💪
I'm studying to work with what I want, but it is very difficult to study living with my mother, as this relationship often causes me emotional instability. so I think about trying to work in the kind of job that I could work today with my current skills, but it's a job I don't like very much, and it would cut my time to evolve in the role I want to work in the future. all I wanted was the privilege of a small and simple apartment to live alone with my cat and my studies, without having to give up focusing on my real goals... so in this situation I'm playing the safe game, but it's really emotionally stressful :/
The best decision in your lives. I have never looked back and yes most of my friends have Mercs and Condo but I am free and I have done skydiving, flew a plane, drove a Ferrari and Lambo, fired real guns. Now I can be financial free if I want to. Take a break Singaporeans and think for yourself, not your future.

I would like to listen the podcast, the podcast could be the series! And I would listen ✨your stories✨ to 15min or more
Please make the supercut version of this I would watch it. Your voice is nice. :)

Good video. We need more voices like yours, to give others the assurance that it's ok to not stay in the mainstream or "play it safe."
Thank you! Much appreciated :)

Love people generously and use things minimally!
Set yourself free and live in the moment with joy.

You just put all my apprehensions about a break year after Masters in 5 mins of the intro and gave me reasons to go for it in the end!
We're sure it's gonna turn out awesome for you. Good luck and all the best! 💪

We hear you. It seems like you've given it a lot of thought. We believe you'll be able to find a path that's right for you, all the best! 💪
@@ThoughtworthyCo thank you very much, I wish you all the best too! 🙏
