What a great video. Loved the inspirational talk. I didn't think Bartley was gonna hold his own after that swim, because swimming can totally drain you. Swimming for an ex-seal is a walk in the park given the swims they had to do in training. You could even see how much more energy Bartley had to exert while swimming. Still he came back and put up some really impressive numbers especially for a guy that size. Totally agree with the idea that if you are going to be that big that you should still be functional so you can do stuff with it. Also, Chadd is an inspiration in keeping up that level of fitness even though he is out of the service. Thanks for the inspiration guys. Really needed that.

@@joelpierce3940I know people who are 85 and going strong and don't swim. The problem with swimming is that you can only ramp up the intensity so much. Same applies to running and walking. You can't manage to continuously and progressively overload your muscles. You run into some kind of limit faster than you would with resistance training. I'm not suggesting swimming is bad. I'm suggesting that without resistance training you're not getting the benefits that you think you're getting, especially for your bones. Sorry, but for all over health there is no substitute to resistance training.

Way to go gents! I’m impressed and inspired to continue pushing myself at 56. Part if my workout routine is doing pull-ups and chin ups from my I-beam in the basement. It’s a struggle to get in 15 of each. I can barely grab beam standing on my tippy toes. I wish I had a body of water nearby to swim.
Killer video, guys. My older brother is a body builder. This makes me want to pair up with him and do something similar here at home. Thanks for the inspiration, especially coming from fellow brothers in Christ!
Swimmer here, that's incorrect actually. Yes fat floats but its more about technique than muscle to fat ratios in swimming. Also not putting your head underwater while swimming makes your legs sink which is why all kids that learn to swim are instructed to put their head in the water. Your head position is super important. Still don't believe me? Watch Eddie Hall swim at 300+ lbs he used to be a swimmer before he starting getting big into lifting.
@@HSmasteryodaYou just used one of the strongest men to ever live and a genetic anomaly as an example. His muscles are literally leaner (very little intramuscular fat), thereby denser than even top strength athletes. I’d say the force he can generate kind of offsets that and he’s an extreme outlier. He was born to accel in basically any sport. Watch the video where they do an ultrasound on his muscle. I’m not disagreeing with you here but a better example would be a regular muscular guy not The Beast. I would say body proportions are the most important factor to having good technique. Having a long and wide torso in proportion to legs is going to give you a big swimming advantage.
Man, after like 35, I felt like it took me days to recover from a PT Test. Give yourself a week and you’ll feel awesome again! When you integrate that swim in, it decimates all those other numbers! I think yall did great man!
My dad was about your size in the 80s 90s. He can still put up like 350 on bench and he's 63. I tried teaching him to swim but he sinks like a rock. He was all glamor muscles, Zero cardio, and roids were a big thing back then. He has to wear an external pacemaker. Keep doing that cardio! Function over form is key! I would work on flexibility as well,.

Great video. The BUDS Preparation Fitness test is definitely one of the toughest in the military, just to gain orders into BUDS. Then you're required to do the test in BUDS Indoc. The swim at the very beginning zaps your strength, especially if your swim technique is substandard. The SEAL in this video was super chill and so humble. Much respect to the body builder for doing this and especially for finishing this and not giving up. I've seen a lot of folks get gassed and quit after the swim or during the calisthenics phase. I wonder if the BUDS fit test still requires candidates to still do the 1.5 mile run in camo pants and boots though?

That would be another way to judge fitness. And in that case the other guy would look pathetic. For some reason people think fitness means your ability to swim a great distance or jog. That's just one type of fitness.

Great Video. When I was in the Navy as a Corpsman with the Marines. I could do 80s push ups, 70 to 80 sit-ups and 20 to 25 dead hand pull ups. I was not a very good runner 3 miles a hair below 21 minute. Now shittttt!!!!! I would die!!! Fellas don't waist your youth. You only have one!!!!
You are so right about remembering to be grateful that you are able to train. I have a close friend who wants to exercise, but she is fortunate to even be able to walk some days, with pain. She has tried to do wall pushups with a slight angle, but she hurt the tendon at the elbow. Most exercises are out. Her joints and tendons are a mess from chemo and radiation.
you said to pause right now... I know you were talking about puttting numbers up, but I am pausing for my brothers that aren't here with me now. Thanks for this video, man.
Spent 11 months training to go to BUDS when I was 17. I achieved a 10:30 500 YD Swim 90+ Pushups 90+ Situps 8-10 pull ups and a 9:30 1.5 mile run My recruiter finally said I was competitive enough, so he sent me to MEPS to get my contract. That was the day I found out I was Color deficient. Honestly one of the worst days of my life and I'll never forget that feeling of immense disappointment and despair. All because of a genetic deficiency I had no control over.
6 years in the Army Infantry. 96 situps. Every. Single. Time. Everything else improved. I did situps for an hour every morning but Sundays, so I definitely recommend them for overall improvement.
Yeah I don't think people who don't work out understand just HOW much easier those bunny reps are compared to full reps. I'm fairly out of shape these days, put I can do 40 full reps straight still. I could probably do 70-80 of those bunny reps. Those only use your chest, which is a munch larger muscle typically than your delts and tris. It's a good way to focus just your chest, and thus why a lot of body builders who focus muscle isolation to get in extra work each week with steroid use do reps that way (and generally only as a warm-up), but for the average person it's an awful way to do a rep.
He was just gliding through the water, smooth. Big guy did well too for his size but was a lot thrashier and seemed to have to work harder at it. I would expect of all things though, a SEAL would do well in the water.
Love these guys. Both an inspiration. I am a nurse and the comment about training for those who cant rings true to me. I will add that mindset to my workouts
I have been on backpack hunting trips with guys that look like they could carry everyone on their shoulders into the rocky mountains, but no way. Ill take the skinny guy full of tenacity all day long. Its all for show, and then you turn 60 and the roids catch up.
You boys are in shape. Great shape. PHENOMENAL SHAPE! Especially at your ages. Very impressive. This comes from an older Marine who got a perfect score at USMC Bootcamp in 1986 (My #'s: 20 pull-ups, 100 sit-ups, 16:50 3-mile run). I did 53 pull-ups shooting for the regimental record which was 66, a few days earler, when I took a second to catch my breath my Senior drill instructor said to drop, so I had to right then). Anyway, this inspired me to get in shape. I just lost 48 lbs in 3 mos and completed a 4-day water fast 2 days ago. I'm 6'1 and I'm shooting for 190 lbs by Jan 30th (that should give me time to stabilize my weight and be a real 190 lbs). I really liked seeing this video. I'm 57 and have some old injuries, (need a knee replacement and an ankle ligament that needs surgery). This video is going to be the fuel I need to get me through it. That guy is one of the most natural swimmers I've seen. Amazing form.. looks like you were born into the water
He was a SEAL
Yes...I try and try but I look like a drunk monkey swimming.....which means you get gassed quicker too.
You'd expect a seal to swim like a pro swimmer..
Bet Phelps can't do 70 pushups!!
Phelps can do 34 pull ups lol and judging by the fact that Phelps had a routine of 3 sets of 30 push ups and posted a cool 25 minute 5k time without ever running, I'm fairly confident he would do just fine on this test @@GameridBackOnceMoreX0

Two brothers in Christ, testing their limits together. What a show, great job boys✝️🙏🇺🇸🫡
Why does that matter?
i loved the introduction!
@@rjbennett3418 It matters when you're in Christ. I wish you could feel the joy.
I loved it when you mention "a brother in Christ".
@@rjbennett3418 It matters more than you know. Look into it, talk to some Christian Men, look into Mens Alliance, i doubt you'll regret it.
Chad you’re truly a humble man. Your action in this video did not go unnoticed!! Keep up the good fight brother you got lots of eyes on you!!
Shock how good big boy did..hats off to both of you!
I wish I had some brothers in Christ like you guys to hang out with. I was in the Army from 91-96. I used to be in good shape but, have let myself go LOL. I recently lost 20 pounds and am wanting to get back into fighting shape. Thanks for this video and all that you guys do. This was what I needed to push me.

I was in the IDF 1997-2000 After that I was a member of a reserve Paratrooper unit. You can stay strong... I did keep my self in good shape. I don't run as fast... But I do almost the same amount of pullups and push ups!
Hail me
Look into Mens Alliance, see if theres a Tribe out your way. I mean it Brother, I was ARMY from 97-02 and MA has helped me get back into a less "round" shape. It has also helped me find brothers in Christ and yanked me out of isolation.
Nice to see a competition like this were the competitors respect each other.
I counted exactly…0 push ups by the bodybuilder 🤨.
Not even the horse fly reps?? Lol
lol yeah he didn't fully extend any that I noticed.
PROBABLY MUSCLE MEMORY BECAUSE A HEALTHY BODYBUILDER WILL NEVER LOCK OUT HARMFULL
Same with situps, shoulders never touched, except when he rested
He did well but yeah , no lock out on the up and didn't touch the elbows to the knees
His straw hat with the fan in it is cracking me up!
Man , I just love that blue Land Cruiser!
Yep, just to rewind sand check that out!! Like my mind old one that she sadly

Glad someone said it!
Not sure how many push-ups for the body builder guy because I didn't see a lot of locking out at the top. Oh well, still not a bad showing but the Navy Seal kept it real!
man,you guys would be awesome to hang with. awesome work and spirit. love from australia.
Glad u called no reps. So many guys let that stuff go. No one cares either how many you do. You’re beating most 90% of people out there anyway. Great channel.
66 years old this month...I swim 3 miles 4 times a week! Love the water!!
I do 2000 meters 3-4 times/week. 500 meters is easy. I am older than you. Swimming is great! I have a friend who is 85 and going strong because he swims!
@danielotwell4315 Keep rocking steady mister!
I can't hardly go 100 yards. I have always SUCKED . I told my friends when I was on a cruise ship if I go over, just keep going cause NO way I'll make it. Sad but true.
@@joelpierce3940I swim 30 miles twice a day 7 days a week
@@joelpierce3940I know people who are 85 and going strong and don't swim. The problem with swimming is that you can only ramp up the intensity so much. Same applies to running and walking. You can't manage to continuously and progressively overload your muscles. You run into some kind of limit faster than you would with resistance training. I'm not suggesting swimming is bad. I'm suggesting that without resistance training you're not getting the benefits that you think you're getting, especially for your bones. Sorry, but for all over health there is no substitute to resistance training.
When you guys had the "we get to do this /some people cant do what we are doing here" it really hit me inside because i have not been able to train for 6+ months right now and it has me sooooo depressed idk what to do with myself i hope i can be back to fitness being a part of my career /daily life again soon ive lost all my results cant even recognize myself at the moment . Anyway great video
Get a pull-up bar, you could even make one using pipe and pipe hangers at Home Depot/Lowes.
"A dragonfly is biting my back" has to be the the words that nobody has ever uttered in the history of humanity😂😂😂
Yea, I thought that was odd too….
I'm 5 minutes in, and you got me wanting to do this tomorrow after church!
Killer video, guys. My older brother is a body builder. This makes me want to pair up with him and do something similar here at home. Thanks for the inspiration, especially coming from fellow brothers in Christ!
Man seriously impressive for a big guy! Both have great cardio and strength 👍🏻
Can we stop and recognize this man has a fan in his hat? This is insane. I want one.
Brick house impressed me with the swimming. With that much muscle, you're fighting to stay afloat as much as you are to make forward progress
It's comments like this that really make me see just how uneducated the general public is about almost everything
And clearly no athletic knowledge. He was just pushing water with how vertical he was. I was so very impressed with his swimming performance
Ross Edgley would disagree...
“ alright now I’m actually gonna start runnin”😂
I’m still smoked from that swim lol
Did you make Chadd take you to Golden Corral afterwards? 😅

@16:22 In Navy Aircrew School, instructors would've been screaming: "ZERO, ZERO, ZERO, ZERO, ZERO.."
Exactly what I was going to wonder / say . . . Those don't count!
Bodybuilder did way better than I expected. I'm glad to see that.
Most bodybuilders are full of water weight and not real muscle. This guy looks legit 😂
@@10MM-MAGAMAN-420 Exactly. Typically full of creatine induced water retention and for pictures get a big pump on using vasodilators. He is definitely in great shape. Youth has a way of doing that though.
Retaining that muscle on 20 mile rucks would be a challenge. Your body would cannibalize a lot of it.
@@10MM-MAGAMAN-420 that's some hilarious bullshit.
Still annoyed he didn't lock out his push-ups. Clear discrepancy of ROM between the two. Both in great shape, not hating, just a pet peeve

Super inspiring 🤩👊
I'm impressed with Bartley's performance, especially after that swim. Lack of technique and no goggles...he was burning twice the energy!
that horsefly on TRT SON!!!!

I enjoyed this video. When you said "man do this for those that cant" was a gut punch for me. This has motivated me to push harder. As a DAV there are many things I can no longer do but I've got it better than a lot. Im going to swim, and walk for those that can't. Ho F**k'n Rah! And that Land Cruiser!!!
I remember my pst’s. Your knee hits the deck and your done son. It’s awesome to see this. Great video brother.
I remember Senior Chief Cutler too. He wouldn’t count your pull ups if your legs weren’t straight either. I remember him showing up to one of our PST’s with vodka soaked grapes. That was a salt of the earth mofo. Loads of respect for that man.
Very inspirational Iam 50 with a 32 year career in CDN SF and still going hard as well. Back in the day I used to get a lot of flack for carrying around the muscle mass but if you train correctly that muscle doesn’t slow you down. Nice work Chad and Bartley.
Really impressive for a dude that’s 270 pounds. Just imagine what he can squat bench and deadlift on top of all that.
That would be another way to judge fitness. And in that case the other guy would look pathetic. For some reason people think fitness means your ability to swim a great distance or jog. That's just one type of fitness.

The other dude was cheating those pushups bad
Yeah I don't think people who don't work out understand just HOW much easier those bunny reps are compared to full reps. I'm fairly out of shape these days, put I can do 40 full reps straight still. I could probably do 70-80 of those bunny reps. Those only use your chest, which is a munch larger muscle typically than your delts and tris. It's a good way to focus just your chest, and thus why a lot of body builders who focus muscle isolation to get in extra work each week with steroid use do reps that way (and generally only as a warm-up), but for the average person it's an awful way to do a rep.
Chadd has a great freestyle stroke!
He was just gliding through the water, smooth. Big guy did well too for his size but was a lot thrashier and seemed to have to work harder at it. I would expect of all things though, a SEAL would do well in the water.
The only drawback is that he breathed on one side only (my coach prohibited us doing this).
Love these guys. Both an inspiration. I am a nurse and the comment about training for those who cant rings true to me. I will add that mindset to my workouts
Years ago I saw my uncle who is a skinny runt beat the crap out of a monster body builder that kicked his car
