We did the NC500 plus a few side trips two weeks ago. Fabulous trip, great country and people. From home on the South Coast and back again - just under 2000 miles.
Your videos are so beautifull. I realy enjoy them so much. Thank you. Greetings from Germany. I used to live in my Bedford van in the late 70th and early 80th. 😉
Beautiful work. One of the best pieces I have seen on the nc500. Done it in the summer. It’s like the m25 then. Considering it for this winter and this video may just have tipped our hand 🤚
Thanks for the compliments Nik 👍🏼 The route has gained so much popularity over the last six months, we were planning a summer trip but may just leave it until the winter again! Maybe we’ll see you there 👍🏼
Up the west coast last week in May, hill walking and caving weather was tremendous very hot ,but I was shocked by the amount of people and traffic ,before I retired I did the NC 500 route every month as part of my job,and some Monday mornings I was one of very few vehicles on the road, changed days couldn't get parked at Clachtoll or Achmelvich beach , good for the economy but the people who moved there for peace and quiet are not so happy.
Nice vlog!! We’re blessed to live amongst this stunning coast! Thurso is my home and wouldn’t move for anything. Just subscribed to ur channel guys ... 😜❤️🏴🥰
Great vlog, 1 small criticism would be when you switched from speaking to the music, I found myself having to keep adjusting the volume, when you talked it was low, so I adjusted it higher, then when the music started I had to hurrily lower it again, apart from that, great scenery and Scotland is my home, but never get bored of seeing it.
Thanks for the feedback Dave. I’ve had a few other mention the same issue. Strangely it only happens on certain devices but I’ll definitely keep a closer eye on my audio levels in future edits. Nonetheless, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
really great video and I watched it to the end. some really great shots in there. well done you guys. definitely making me want to do this . I know you have your own van and its so homely but do you have any recommendations for camper van hire to so this ?
Great views guys, very adventurous heading up that way at this time of year. It's a different kind of lighting at this time and unfortunately not much daylight. Hope to see your next Scottish visit. Out of interest, what tyres have you on the van, I assume it's not the odd name cheapo's?
Thanks, yes the days were rather short. But still an unforgettable trip and such a beautiful place to visit. Regarding tyres, we usually go for Michelin or Continental, but Michelin’s are the best all round.
Wonderful video, what camera and software did you use? We're moving up to Scotland in a few weeks and will be doing this trip on a Harley Davidson trike...😎😎😎
Hey, thanks for the feedback. Could I ask what device/audio setup you were listening to it on? Only asking as I’ve tested it on a few different TVs, phones and laptops and so far all have been fine. 👍🏼
There were a few places that were a challenge (such as Bealach na Bà) but most of it was fine. You just need to be super patient with other drivers. 👍🏼
Terrific. Quite therapeutic. Really enjoyed the whole presentation. You really have struck a chord with a lot of other viewers. I'm a few generations before you, but enjoyed the music clips. How can I find out who recorded them? The work you have done on the van is simply stunning. I look forward to seeing more of your trips.
@@TheRoadIsOurHome My apologies. I didn't look hard enough. In the good ole days I would have gone down to the Woolworths record counter in Swansea and bought the vinyls. Now I'll have to look for them on-line. You must have a very deep appreciation of the music available to you. Your selections here are prefect. What do you for a crust/living? You must have a significant trade qualification to have finished off the van to that level of quality. There must be a tremendous business opportunity in this for you. Next time I get back to the old country, I'll try and catch up for a coffee.
Absolutely loved this video .. thanks so much guys ! we are going mid September so I am proper doing my research ! haaa I will probably still bring a woolly hat in September :) x fab video and editing was gorgeous ! xx
Aw guys your videos are lovely :) it’s nice to hear familiar English accents as well! I love how your videos are not egoic at all, just sharing your masterpiece of a home and the beauty of your travels! Thank you ☺️
Just found the channel and I've watched a few other van builds but this one is the most elegant. Would love to see how things inside work, like how do you cook food, how does the shower work etc. Subscribed and liked :)

Stunning that guys. We're doing half the NC500 - I guess the NC250! 😅 - in September as part of a Scotland roadtrip. I love that you did your trip in winter. It gives it its own breathtaking beauty that you don't see in the usual NC500 summer vids. Great job 👍
We really enjoyed it in the winter, the only downside was the short days. But it was worth it to not be continuously attacked by midges 😄 hope you guys enjoy your nc250 trip! 👍🏼
Going to have to copy your route wicked stuff. Where are you guys based. I am going to do a photography road trip round Devon Cornwall this year if you want to join us
Thanks dude 👍🏼 we’re based around the Gloucestershire area when we’re not travelling. Let us know when you’re doing your trip and maybe we could meet up. 😊
The Kindness Coach TV Hi John, every time of year has its pros and cons. Weather in the Highlands is generally best in May/June. High summer can get wet and there are more likely to be midges. East coast is drier than west and less midge-prone. Autumn can be fabulous for colour, rutting stags and great light. Winter is quiet and a lot of things are closed. Road conditions can be challenging and the days are very short, but it’s still a very atmospheric time to visit. Be aware that a lot of camp-sites close from October to March, but not all. Since the inception of the NC500, many hotels and B&Bs have extended their seasons, so there is usually somewhere to stay. In terms of what to see, depends on what you’re into. For outdoor adventure there is everything from sea-kayaking to zip-wiring, but there are also plenty of galleries and museums, many of which are real gems, hidden away in small towns and villages. So it pays to take your time, stay and wander! Of course the scenery is everywhere. I’m a photographer and, for me, it is paradise! Just be aware that, at the time of writing, travel restrictions are still in place in Scotland due to Covid-19, and accommodation, etc is closed. I’m hoping we might catch the tale end of a season here in the Autumn when things start to open up. Here’s hoping for an Indian Summer!
@@TarrelScot Thank you so much for taking the time to give me all this information. I am thinking of going for two weeks from 15th October 2021 hopefully covid-19 been and gone then lol :-) my friend wants to do it with me she lives in Canada and is like you she loves photography for me dead simple just walking, nature and few beers. Look after yourself mate.
@@KindnessMattersTV Perfect. Walking all day, then retiring to a nice bar for the evening as the nights are drawing in. Most places will have the wood burning stoves lit by then. Nothing quite like being able to eat and drink your fill, knowing you've already worked it off earlier in the day! Just be aware that a lot of deer stalking activity goes on in October. You're fine if you stick to the paths, but be careful if you go off the beaten track. There's a special number you can call to get up to date info on which estates are stalking on which days. The service is called Hillphones.
Really loved how you took the time to let the scenery speak rather than you feeling like you needed to talk through the whole thing I really appreciated that and loved looking at the places you visited.
To anyone thinking of doing this trip: THINK VERY CAREFULLY! Doing it in Winter isn't so bad but in Summer (May to September) the road cannot cope. In the remote north-west, the route is single track. Yes it really is only wide enough for one vehicle. The tourists don't know how to use the passing places, much to the annoyance of local residents who have grown to dislike the 'stupid' tourists. Oh yes, and the Hooray Henrys racing their Lamborghinis. I live in the North of Scotland and I know what I'm talking about.
Yes the road in the far north used to be good but its positively dangerous now , there is also way too many campervans who park off road to wild camp and leave their trash behind - wild camping is legal in Scotland but only applies to land accessed on foot .
Thank you for your lovely video, we have been doing that route for over 35 years, before it became so famous as the NC500. We still have not seen everything. So glad you enjoyed our beautiful Country, haste ye back :-)
Glad you enjoyed the vid! 👍🏼 It’s such a beautiful place and you’re right, there really is so much to see! We’re thinking of coming back in the summer for another visit.
Truly inspirational video. A couple of questions 1)What month and date did you go? 2) How long did the trip take? 3) Is your van SWB or LGW? 4) Did you kit the van out yourself if not who did you use for your conversion? Thank you so much I have subscribed to your channel can you subscribe back to mine ;-) John.
Hey john, thanks for the compliment 😊 1) 3rd of February. 2) I think it was around 2/3 weeks. 3) Lwb. 4) I did the whole conversion, check out my other videos 😉 👍🏼
We are just back from doing (beginning of may )it clockwise . Stunningly beautiful and still quite quiet on the roads and all shops ect were opened 👌thankyou for sharing your vlog 😄

East coast not so much 😕
Glad you enjoyed the vlog and thanks for the feedback 👍🏼 Yeah we found the east coast to be a little less interesting, luckily we did the route anti-clockwise. We’re definitely planning another visit and will be sure to check out Skye. It’s such an incredible place and I’m sure really enjoyable on a motorbike!
how did you find spending the early evenings? i was plan to do this mid november but sunsets around 4ish not sure what i can do during the cold long nights, how cold was the temp?
The early sunsets did restrict us quite a bit tbh. Get up early and make the most of the day. I’m a photographer so I’d be editing throughout the evening. In February it got down to -7*c outside. The van stayed a toasty 21 inside though! We’re heading there again in February. The upsides of visiting in the winter are; no midges and the roads are much quieter.
Heya dude, yeah apologies for the lack of content. We had plans to be travelling around Europe and bringing out regular videos, unfortunately this was set back when we discovered in April this year that I have an aggressive cancer so we’ve been trying to deal with that. Keep you eyes out though as we’ve got big plans for some more Uk trips and Europe for the new year 👍🏼
@@TheRoadIsOurHome I have just discovered your channel and you and your wife both seem like beautiful people, so I am so sorry to read this. nice video of a tour of Scotland. I love driving around the mountains and glens. you threw me a bit at the end though, the sequencing of locations was a bit random. you were in Glencoe and then coming over the pass from Applecross :-)
Heading over in two weeks to rent a campervan..... you've made us completely reroute our trip! This looks great!!! thanks for the heads tips and the heads up. What was the parking app you mentioned? I cant find an app to show us some free spots for wild camping... Thanks!

I loved your adventure on the NC500.. And very nice video.. Will surely use this one when I'm planning my trip to the NC.. Can I ask you how many days did you take to go round the NC500??
Great video of parts of Scotland which the majority of Scots have never seen. I was hoping your filming would include Achmelvich beach and caravan/camping area on the north west coast, but alas, you never went there. Make it a destination to visit someday - you'll always be glad you did!
Thanks. We did actually visit Achmelvich but unfortunately the weather was terrible and we didn’t manage to get any useable footage. Absolutely beautiful place and we’ll be sure to get some better footage in the summer. 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing your adventure , great video (and soundtrack) I’m planning to do this early next year so your vlog was super inspiring. Thanks again.
Hi guys,, just caught Yr video,,, just want to say it's awesome,, really liked the transitions, scenery and most of all the great route you were on,, I've liked and subscribed,, looking forward to your adventures,, 👍👍👍
Just found your Channel and itˋs really lovely. :) I have a question. Do you shower in cold areas? How do you manage it with your greywatertank? I heart a lot of people have troubles with the tank because itˋs freezing. Keeping up the Great work! Greetings from Berlin.
Glad you’re enjoying the channel 👍🏼 it was pretty cold In Scotland, -7*c. We just make sure to to empty the grey water tank each night. No issues so far.
I told you before your van is the best i'v seen ,,,,,, now your video and editing is outstanding keep um coming guy's , u 2 could take over youtube , i loved it well done
Again, thanks for the kind words Pete, really appreciate it 👍🏼 when you spend so many hours creating something it becomes difficult to gauge if it’s good or bad, so it’s really reassuring to hear your comments.
Love the video scenery is beautiful but the music is way too loud! I spend most of my time changing the volume turning it right down, drounded out by music when there’s no commentary
The Road Is Our Home We watched it on the smart TV. The volume was in the mid twenties to hear the narrative but needed to lower it to about fifteen when the background music came on
It was wonderful. I always dreamt to have such beautiful moving home. I ll try to make one myself in future. The views and sceneries were excellent and I felt the cold. By the way the foos look Delicious 😋
I watch a LOT of travel videos. I have to say this was one of the better ones. The style and composition with good song mixes was especially pleasing. EPIC video pull-back from 2:00 to 2:15! That segment made me subscribe.
Hello you two. Just want to congratulate you, on putting together one of the best touring video's l've ever watched. Fantastic viewing.. loved it. Thank you for sharing. Cheers Gary
Just found your channel and its the perfect mix of vlogging and exploration with your cosy mobile home ☺️ pleassseee upload more regularly, let this channel grow! Also just wondering do you have a carbon monoxide monitor and additional security for the van just to keep your home safe? Great work overall!! 😄
Awesome stuff. Great vids!!👍😎 with your morning videos and evening videos try and keep them in time sequence, one minute the view over the north coast sea has the sun to the left (pm) the next shot it’s on the right (am) time sequence is important especially with B role. That aside awesome job! Dramatic, visual, keeps the viewer captivated!! I want more👍👍👍

Hey guys when are uploading next. I've been subscribed to you quite long & honestly I just can't wait to see what's ahead in this journey for you two.
Unfortunately, time is not promised, but you are living life in the most amazing way, so keep making the most of it, and hopefully you will make a recovery so that you can go continue living your dream. 😁
@@TheRoadIsOurHome so very sorry to see this. Hope treatments are working and you get to make your trip.
Scotland is always beautiful and my favourite. Hope that you would do more Scotland road trips so that I have more ideas where to explore next time 😉
We’ll definitely be doing some more of Scotland 👍🏼
wonderful video. well edited. lovely music. well done and thanks : )
Thanks for the compliments 👍🏼
nice video of a tour of Scotland. I love driving around the mountains and glens. you threw me a bit at the end though, the sequencing of locations was a bit random. you were in Glencoe and then coming over the pass from Applecross :-)
Haha yeah the ending was bit of a mix of the whole trip. Bravo though, we’ll spotted! 👏🏼 thanks for the compliment 😊
I wouldn’t mind doing that route and getting the ferry across to Orkney for a few days while I’m up there.
Heading over in two weeks to rent a campervan..... you've made us completely reroute our trip! This looks great!!! thanks for the heads tips and the heads up. What was the parking app you mentioned? I cant find an app to show us some free spots for wild camping... Thanks!
That’s so cool! No doubt you’ll love it.
The app is called ‘Park4night’.
Enjoy your trip!
Thank you, such a fab video,so informative and calming to watch.I have done the nc500 myself in my T6 and can’t wait to do again as so much still to see, recommend the walago steps and smoo cave....keep up what you are doing whilst we can, take care
It really is an incredible place isn’t it, so much to see! Thanks for the compliments dude, maybe we’ll see up there at some point 👍🏼
I loved your adventure on the NC500.. And very nice video.. Will surely use this one when I'm planning my trip to the NC.. Can I ask you how many days did you take to go round the NC500??
Glad you enjoyed the video 😊 We spent two weeks, but you could easily go for a month or two and still enjoy it. There’s just so much to see.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the positive feedback dude 👍🏼😎
Amazing! My husband said when you’re done can we rent you van and do this trip! I’m in awe!
Cracking vid glad I found your channel :-)
Lielisks video
I told you before your van is the best i'v seen ,,,,,, now your video and editing is outstanding keep um coming guy's , u 2 could take over youtube , i loved it well done
Again, thanks for the kind words Pete, really appreciate it 👍🏼 when you spend so many hours creating something it becomes difficult to gauge if it’s good or bad, so it’s really reassuring to hear your comments.
Did it last year on the bike, epic run....
Best travel vlog I've watched. Really well done, beautiful videography and informative.
Thanks for the compliments David, much appreciated 👍🏼
yes them roads are very busy from may to september as i have done it in a 43ton artic delivering food around scotland
Fair play, not sure I’d fancy attempting that in the busy months! We did see a few big trucks on the route, but not quite that big. 👍🏼
There is now a sticker board nearby the John O'Groats signpost to stop people putting their stickers on it. The signpost looks nice and clean now.
That’s a great idea. I’ve heard they used to strip the stickers off annually, so it’d save a lot hard work.
Great video thank for sharing we are doing the NC 500 in August with my daughter and son-in- law we are also going to be doing it nationwide
Thanks! 😊👍🏼 it’s a truly beautiful route, hope you enjoy it as much as we did 😊
Most Scots have never been to those places.........😀
I have! It's the most beautiful trip in Scotland. I did it in Summer don't know if I would try on the Winter.
Willnot Betracked Would like to see the results of the survey that you are obviously basing that statement on ! YER MAW !!!!
Love the video scenery is beautiful but the music is way too loud! I spend most of my time changing the volume turning it right down, drounded out by music when there’s no commentary
Thanks for the feedback, strange only seems to happen on certain devices. Could I ask what you were viewing it on? Thanks :)
The Road Is Our Home We watched it on the smart TV. The volume was in the mid twenties to hear the narrative but needed to lower it to about fifteen when the background music came on
Some great camera work, good to see young ones taking a interest in our fantastic countryside, well done
It was wonderful. I always dreamt to have such beautiful moving home. I ll try to make one myself in future. The views and sceneries were excellent and I felt the cold. By the way the foos look Delicious 😋
Thank you for the compliments 🙏🏼 you should do it, life is too short to dream. 😊
Love this. Love the edit, the music and obviously the amazing scenery.. thanks for sharing
I watch a LOT of travel videos. I have to say this was one of the better ones. The style and composition with good song mixes was especially pleasing. EPIC video pull-back from 2:00 to 2:15! That segment made me subscribe.
Thanks for the positive feedback 👍🏼 appreciate it. I really enjoyed that shot 😎
Hello you two. Just want to congratulate you, on putting together one of the best touring video's l've ever watched. Fantastic viewing.. loved it. Thank you for sharing. Cheers Gary
Hey Gary, thanks for taking your time to write such kind and encouraging words, it really means a lot. Glad you’re enjoying our content. 👍🏼
I want more👍👍👍
Hi guys, just discovered your channel. Looking at your Nc500 vid is one of the best seen. I am Currently of to be doing the Nc500 this October 2020 coming and am so excited. Will be putting my pics and route on Polarsteps. ♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for the compliments 😊
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did and be sure to drop us a link to the pics 👍🏼
Thanks for your response 😊
Really enjoyed this, great style and music choices.thanks
