I showed this song to my dad. He wasn't wearing his glasses and was convinced Leeroy's pull-off strum trickery was actually just being played by that there moonshiner standing in the back. >
Still the best entertainment value for the money ANYWHERE. Leroy Troy strums a wicked banjo just like his predecessor... Uncle Dave. Who's gonna feel Leroy Troy's shoes and keep the banjo gymnastics, strummin, and singin in the years to come? Who?
***** u must not be familiar with Leroy troy. His banjo picking is different. Its called claw hammer. If u will Google clawhammer banjo on wikipedia read to bottom u will see Leroy's name. Grandpa Jones did this also. Leroy's picking is very real. If u watch the Marty Stuart show on RFD- TV u will see Leroy every show picking this style. Leroy's as real as real gets. If u also Google Leroy troy u will read about his claw hammer picking.
I just ran across Mr Troy by accident. Heard the Bicycle Wreck Song on Barren River Breakdown, thought it was done by Homer and Jethro. Came home and plugged it into youtube. Found Leroy Troy. Amazing bit of banjo playing! Also found out who wrote the Bicycle Wreck Song. Mr Leroy Troy I truly appreciate your talent. Great.
Didn’t understand what was going on till I saw the comment about his dad and his classes, and was amazed when he started flipping the banjo, and it was still being played 👏
Great job on this old Uncle Dave Macon favorite. Your banjer has a great sound and you handle it a la Uncle Dave. The cat crossing over is a nice touch, but an accessory strangely absent is a hound napping by your chair. ;-)
Nice to have someone off camera that keeps playing. Slow to 50% and it’s clear he’s not playing during the flips and spins. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still entertaining.
@@hsl49scorpion73 You are mistaken. The banjo is tuned to an open key (usually "G" but in this case, "C"). If you'll notice, whatever hand is unoccupied during the flipping and rotating, it is the one brushing across the strings, imperceptibly to most, to keep the playing continuous. These "tricks" (for lack of a better word) were part and parcel of Uncle Dave Macon's performances, and he probably learned them from the many minstrel performers who stayed at his folks' hotel in Nashville at about the turn of the last century.
If anyone digs this kind of music among other styles, please please check out Niel Woodward, Legend of Crossroads Village and Michigan's own state troubadour. You wont be disappointed. Niel plays some mighty fine music and he is a great friend of mine.
Leroy I have no idea as to why Marty keeps you throttled back on his show except that he doesn't want you to show him up. My respect is split equally 'tween the two of yous.
The closest we'll get to having footage of Uncle Dave Macon performing this song. Great job!

I might be bout eight years late, but he even did that banjo twirl old Dave Macon use to do, what a man alive!
Unrelated but is your name and profile pic related to far cry 5 by chance?
Leroy Troy is the real deal. Just love them old country tunes

The cats name was Kayla
The cat heard all that talk about greasy skillets.
Love the cat's reaction at :44. "Whoa, what's that?"
Holy snap. Dude's maneuver at 1:40 is unreal.
The cat that walks through the video makes it legit
Todd Cottle I noticed that too!!!
Definitely, Jake...and he kept perfect rhythm all through. ... Right on, Leroy, sounding great. :-)

Haven’t seen more videos from him recently. Too bad. I’d like to see some more.

IT DOES'NT GET ANY BETTER , THEN THAT !

How does he keep the banjo strum going at 1:38 while he is spinning the instrument around???
I can't figure it out. Is it an overdub? Help!
+FriendlyBanjoAtheist I've decided he's either faked every performance, is faster than video can comprehend, or has a ghost hand. haven't decided yet.
+Matt Eagle. Hmmmmm. I am curious. Anyone know for sure?
There is a video on here called "guitar moves with leroy troy" where he explains it, something to do with pulling off the strings on the neck
i can do it myself maybe not as clean as leroy but it will get there keep on rappin on thang leroy !
he is scrapping the strings with his fretting hand as he spins it
cookin'
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤
I let him play by my summer home. The cat's name is General Lee. (just kidding, of course).
Is that double C? I am wondering what tuning is used. Excellent work Leroy!
It's open G. I've learned to play this song on the banjo and I can post a tutorial if you'd like.
Always impressed with Leroy's gymnastics. (Is the guy in the yellow shirt a cardboard cut out or a mannequin?)
Does anyone know what Leroy is up to these days?
I got a hat and banjer ladies
Ive moved away from folk like you
. Cept, the music brings me bacj
***FREEDOM IS"NT FREE LET"S SAVE BURMA***
