Thank you so much! I'm just a Swedish hillbilly trying to spit good ole' monkey shine like the great Uncle Dave 😅❤ this is almost a year ago, I think my timing has improved a lot. Please watch my take on Mississippi Kid, better timing on that one 🎉

@@johannesbroborn You're succeeding admirably. I did watch the MS Kid one that was excellent too! Cool to know that you're a fellow multi-instrumentalist. Also, I've seen Ern use the phrase "spit" monkey shines before what does that mean exactly? Is it just a turn of phrase for doing monkey shines or is it a specific thing within monkey shines?

@mixmastercj100 haha I think its just a phrase that was used by Dave Macon for the Juggling.. heard Leroy mention it sometimes, and I think it comes from the medicine shows. A fun way to say "Spinning the Banjo" and making people amazed.

@@johannesbrobornThanks man! I hope to post some shines soon myself. :) Yep from my understanding it comes from the minstrel/medicine shows. Believe I heard either Cordell Kemp or the guy who wrote the Dave Macon book say that.
There’s a clip on UA-cam of Bing Crosby in blackface performing with a minstrel troupe, and I don’t think there’s any banjo flips, but there are some instrument tricks (one of the minstrels kicks either the banjo or tambourine), that’s the closest thing to a live depiction I’ve seen as of typing this, am interested to see if there’s anything else.
The history of this music is just endlessly deep and fascinating.
