No doubt. I started watching reruns of The Marty Stuart Show on UA-cam. I doubted that Leroy was his real name, or that Goodletsville was an actual place, but heck, the guy can sing and play, and is a great entertainer. I grew up on Hee Haw, and it turns out Buck Owens and Roy Clark were not hicks, but great musicians. I guess a lot of it gets dressed up in cornpone, but that's show biz.
I saw him do that on Marty Stuart’s show years ago paying Grandfather’s Clock and I couldn’t figure how’s the music playing while he’s flipping the banjo around.🤔
You can see those same tricks from a 1940 movie about the Grand Ole Opry, featuring Uncle Dave Macon. Macon grew up in the late 1800s, learning tricks from the traveling musicians who stayed at his father's hotel in Tennessee. He became a kind of Roy Clark for his time, a big star who was equal parts musician, storyteller and comedian.
If you ran into this guy and he played banjo for you...nobody would believe what you were telling them he did. You'd probably think you just met some kind of hillbilly woodland spirit that was made out of tree bark and mountains.
Awesome episode!! More guitarists should learn banjo. Especially ‘Clawhammer’. I probably play more Banjer than guitar nowadays. It’s a seriously cool and fun instrument. Thank you for giving it some props!!
Saw them both live in June this year they still know how to put on a good show, I’d live to see him interview Kenny Vaughan he’s such a interesting person
I was Troy‘s friend and neighbor in Goodlettsville Tennessee for over 10 years. He’s the real deal .
How exactly? Tell some stories man :)

That's called banjo flipping and he gets that from an old time performer called Uncle Dave Macon

Simply amazing! When he is tossing and flipping and playing the banjo was pure magic!
