Well, in fairness, he doesn't know too much about braking a motorcycle in the first place... Listen carefully to what he says from about @1:00. Using the front brake 70% of the time and the rear brake 30% of the time? WTF? With video's about braking like that, you don't need broken brakes.
I'm looking to get back on a bike after a 35 year gap! I still miss my 1976 kawasaki z650 and that bike buzz. I'm sure when I do get back on the road I will enjoy it. Watching these excellent videos I haven't forgotten too much.
Best channel for beginners to learn how to ride. He gives a small amount of information in each video so he doesn't overwhelm the newbie. Must say thats a wonderful teaching strategy.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video! Really helped me get the hang of taking off. I stalled so many times when I first hopped on the bike before watching this video. I got on it today and took off without any problems. I am a first time rider..obviously. Here's to other first time riders! Thanks again.

ppl are hating because you dont have any gear on and didnt say anything about wearing gear and i get it but in regards to the mechanics of 1st gear and getting it rolling this video is really helpful for beginners so thank you...
My parents have bought me a CBR 150 but I didn't even know how to ride it 😂 thanks for teaching me the basics, at least I'll know where to start. Subbed !
Well I would definitely like to emphasize not starting on a supersport 600cc bike, for the exact reason of throttle control that you had a problem with. See, with a 250r or 650r, that mistake would have been a minor slip-up compared to what you experienced with your bike... but congratulations on keeping it upright.
Awesome video man. Taking a safety course that starts tomorrow so I'm trying to learn as much as I can before the course. I've never ridden a bike. This video made me a bit more confident in myself. Again, awesome video for us beginners!
Good job guys. I like how you focused on the controls and even though its obvious the person giving the presentation is experienced...you covered the very basic stuff.
I think they said they were covering this in a later video. You don't go to neutral. You push up on the gear lever with your toe. The bike goes smoothly through neutral and into second. Then you release the lever. When you need third you push it up again and get third. Again release the lever. Each higher gear is the same. To go down gears just push the lever down. Once for each gear. Until you get to first. When stopped in first, a gentle push up gets neutral.
For the most part it seems just like a manual transmission car, just the gear shifting in a different. Really cool to learn the basics on how to ride a manual bike. Been somewhat interested in these types of bikes since I was little.
I'm really grateful of where they position the clutch on most bikes. People have a natural reflex to tense up and grip things tight like a clutch whenever there body senses there in danger. That Honda 600 engine scared the shit out of me when I accidentally slipped the throttle to like 7000 RPM's and at the same time that intimidation factor made me not let go of the clutch! I agree about not starting off with a high powered bike but it's all my sisters got, i'll def be more careful next time!
Thanks to your friend for mentioning the whiskey throttle... pay attention new riders! That is exactly what I did I crashed andbroke my big toe.. was out of work over 2 months... just getting used to going on bike again... I flew across a lot hit a curb and the bike was stuck on top of me...
My friend offered for me to use his bike to practice once I get the written test done but I’m so scared that either I crash and damage his bike or I crash and get hurt myself. Thanks for making this video to slowly introduce people to it.
UA-cam wasn't in existence when i had to learn how to ride a bike first and my biggest challenge was getting the bike in motion from first gear and getting the clutch release right.
Looking to get a bike in the next two years and get my license prior with alot of pratice and coaching. Interesting how you gear a motorcycle. Much simplier to me than a car.
I tried to ride for the first time this weekend and sure enough...whiskey throttle 😞 haha but I'm going to try it till I get it down. Thank you for tips!
Liked this review best one yet. Thank you. Wearing gloves helmet gear is all an obvious common sense so I wanted a video that would demonstrate the actual shift of gear and how the foot works so this video went straight into riding which was what i wanted, tha k you guys.
For those who are looking at this for learning purposes, use all your fingers on your levers, and use both breaks all the time but use front break to do more of the work. Also the sweet spot he is referring to is the friction zone. I hope that helped some of you.
I like how your videos are detailed and you show how to do it a few times. All other videos is either just explaining and not showing or showing how to do it but not detailed and it's rushed. Great video. I feel a little more confident now. Subscribed!
Very clear and assumes NOTHING is already known. Good for beginner like me. "Give it gas" is said often, and I think he means give it some Throttle, and let up on clutch a bit (right?). No gas peddle, so the Clutch + throttle are sort of the GAS PEDDLE?
This sets you up for failure. You're a bump away from mistakenly grabbing front brake or clutch. It also gives you less grip on the handlebars in the event of rough road. It takes very little time to switch from bars to levers. Plus when you're grabbing brakes you generally don't want to be twisting the throttle; if your hand is around the grip then when you move to the brake you will release the throttle. I doubt even racers cover the brake/clutch like that, but the street is not the track.
The video is very good, helped me a lot. My Z800 will arrive soon and im a noob so is im catching all videos possible on internet cause i know i will have to use 15% of her power about 500 miles first before i could use more of it. Thanks again.
Pro tip. The kill switch isn't just for emergencies only. U can turn the bike off with that and it won't hurt it in any way. The manual just says that because if people use the kill switch they might forget to turn the key off and it will drain the battery. If you don't believe me search motorcycle magazine kill switch and he explains it better
I use my rear brake 90% of the time. I believe you meant to say that you get 70% of your braking power from the front brake, and 30% from the rear. However, you use them whenever you want, just be careful. Basically, if you give the rear and the front the same amount of pressure, you’re gonna fly forwards and do a stoppy. So no, you don’t USE it 70 and 30, you get 70% of your stopping force from it. You can use them whenever and however you want, just be mindful of how much pressure you use. I only use the front brake when I absolutely need to. The rest of the time, I’ll rev match and engine brake, then use the rear brake to stop completely. Nonetheless, the rest of the video was pretty good. However, you’re teaching people how to ride without wearing any gear. Be a good role model
There's always something to learn or practice. I know riders and racers who are lifetime learners. If you have never had some professional instruction, then how do you know if you're not building some really bad habits? Maybe there are things you've never thought of on your own but could improve your riding.
if you let the clutch go with no throttle you will stall in first. you always roll on throttle as you let out clutch in any gear but most important when starting to move.
The best way to learn to ride a motorcycle is by taking your local safety course (MSF in the US, in Canada just check with your local community college). You start off on small, light bikes that are friendly for beginners, and actually start out pushing them and balancing them. You build your way up to riding them and it doesn't take long at all. if your stopped it is easy to go from first to N, but if your moving and accelerating the bike is more apt to go to second even with the lightest of a tap.

It will jump forward and turn off. It will be more noticeable than a car, because a car has more weight, but as long as you don't panic you can recover quite easily. Just brake, hold in the clutch, pop it in neutral and fire it back up. Just like a car. ;)

I learned to drive a bike from this video, now can't figure out how to stop, still riding
Junaid Khan did you fall
you just use brake slowly..and put your leg down to the land..sorry..my english quite bad..
Just ride down the road next to parked cars - eventually someone will be kind enough to blindly open their door into the road to help slow you down.
Junaid Khan it is junaid khan why you saw video so I unliked you
yep, you got it right LOL
"basically this is how you ride a bike, oh on braking - we'll make another video later on"
