Absolutely brilliant! I have never ridden a bike before ( only pillion) and I have a intro lesson on the 13th November and my CBT on the 17th December. I have been worrying about the gears and I have just watched your video and you explain it brilliantly. I am sat in the canteen at work with my tablet and earbuds and I have been putting the clutch in etc as you have done it. I think my colleagues think I've lost it. I can't wait to watch it again when I get home. Thankyou so much xx
Thanks for this series of videos. I learnt more through you than I did when I did my CBT on a geared 125 last year, my instructor wasn’t very good at all. The experience wasn’t great and It put me off getting a bike to be honest. However with a year left on my CBT I am picking up a 125 tomorow at the age of 31. Thanks again for your videos, and if you aren’t an instructor already, then you should be!

But now I’m keen to get on the road. And I’m not bothered either way. Bike or car, Do you have any tips. That you can pass on. You seem to have a bit more experience than me. Like you have said. You done your CBT on a geared 125 last year, although your instructor wasn’t very good at all. “ sorry to hear that “ And the experience wasn’t great and It put you off getting a bike. But as you say with a year left on your CBT your picking up a 125 tomorrow at the age of 31. Don’t worry about that. 31 is still quite young to learn. I’m not sure when you left this message. But I’m 52 and looking for any tips. From anyone that wants to give them. Bearing in mind I’ve always been told that bikes are not safe. And I’d be better sticking with 4 wheels rather than 2 wheels. Im now looking to buy a bike anyway. As I’ve found by listening into various conversations insurance for a bike. Is cheaper than a car. Along with road tax. And once you pass the CBT your able to go out unsupervised. As opposed to a car. You have to have someone sat beside you. But a motorbike you don’t. But you do have to pass a c.b.t. Before you go out on your own.
I had the exact same experience ! I’m 33 , began on a geared 125 but the instructor forced me onto a moped because I was too jerky and in the end I had no confidence whatsoever, I passed on the moped but that was 6 months ago . I’d really like a 125 of my own so I can learn in a safe space watching these videos and get my confidence back .
This guy is very good. All the little details given like in his other videos 'always keep the bike moving' makes all sense once you start riding from being a learner. I recommend you watch and don't assume you know everything and as with motorbikes once you get experience, don't be arrogant but to respect the throttle and value your life and the life of others.

I have just moved from my scooter my first 125cc, a CB125F. I searched everywhere to find `when' to change gears and which one, eg. cornering, entering and exiting roundabouts. Even motorcycle tutorial websites neglected to provide any information. Now, thanks to this very informative video, I know I can navigate roundabouts in 3rd gear. A problem I have when leaving traffic lights or another stop, I end up revving too much while moving from 1st to 2nd gear. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
Great video, better than many quick fire CBT courses no doubt. But i'm surprised more people don't just do the DAS on say a powerful Auto Honda. So much to think about as a beginner to biking, gearing down for every junction. Arguably much safer with just twist 'n' go, not having to worry about stalling or skidding at roundabouts. As you say, many of the 125 manuals don't even have rev counters or even show you what gear you're in. It feels sketchy!
i been driving cars for last 30 year but now moving on to bike due high fuel costs i find gearing down 4321 was awkward now i skip few depending on speed seems to be better

Great video, thanks, passed my CBT with automatic over a week ago now, however I don't really want be stuck on a twist and go, was 50/50 about getting a geared bike to learn on but your video has convinced me that I can do it, I've been driving cars for 28yrs now so I know manual on them, hoping that does help me out, I will be sticking to quiet back roads as I practice though, thinking of getting a cheap Chinese bike with gear selection on display, possibly a Lexmoto zsb, then go for theory and test, then if all goes well I can reward myself with a new bike, fingers crossed.
That sounds like a good plan. To stick to quieter country roads. But then again. You don’t know what idiots are thrashing the guts out of their cars on what you think maybe a quiet country road. And there are quite a few dicks in cars on the road too. And that goes either way for bikers as well as car drivers. You never know what’s around the next corner. I’ve found that out by watching dash cam videos on here. And found that all is 50/50 bikers can be just as bad as any car driver. And that goes the other way about too. And a lot comes down to common sense too.
Thanks for the video, its good to see. Couple of things I could do with advice on. First I have trouble changing up, Ive worn my boots in but theyre still really stiff for getting under the lever to change up with just an ancle movement, I kinda end up moving my whole leg a bit, is that right? I believe its possible to adjust the level a bit but it doesnt look very low. Second is I am mostly worried about being an idiot new rider and not knowing how to do simple things like fill up at a petrol station. Ive been driving a car for years but new to riding, would love to see a video on the common things to know.
Hi James, yes you can adjust the lever which can help. In regards the petrol station... I go for pump on either side, doesn't really matter for the bike. If the pump is on your left make sure to allow enough room to get off the bike when it leans onto the stand... Get off the bike before filling up. Some petrol stations won't allow the petrol until you remove your helmet. And be careful as petrol stations are slippery places due to spilt diesel!
Brilliant video. Have my CBT tomorrow and wasn't sure if you could just hold the clutch in when approaching a stop and drop all the way from 6th to 1st in quick succession for example. I'm used to driving a car where 6th to 1st in quick succession wouldn't be possible without ruining or locking the gearbox, so I am more used to dropping down the gearbox more methodically as the speed reduces.
Do you need to find the biting point as you go up gears? As in you put clutch in, hit it up to 2nd gear, then do I need to instantly reingage the throttle as I'm letting go of the clutch or once I've let it go?
I downshift to 2nd gear when there is a turning, when I leave the clutch. It go forward suddenly( like stalling ) but it doesn't turn off , solution please
his kind voice and the way he talk is so amazing really helps mate

That sounds like a good plan. To stick to quieter country roads. But then again. You don’t know what idiots are thrashing the guts out of their cars on what you think maybe a quiet country road. And there are quite a few dicks in cars on the road too. And that goes either way for bikers as well as car drivers. You never know what’s around the next corner. I’ve found that out by watching dash cam videos on here. And found that all is 50/50 bikers can be just as bad as any car driver. And that goes the other way about too. And a lot comes down to common sense too.
I'm Turing 17 soon and I am looking to buy an automatic 125cc do you have any recommendations I'm looking for something cheap and reliable, thanks
l im 12 and studying to drive one cuz for christmas i got a race bike and im going racing wi my big brother a long term racer this helped a bit thx
Glad it helped :)
Quality video mate thank you
Can you let out the clutch quickly when changing gears with anything higher than 1st?. Like in a car?
very detailedly, thank you for such useful info!!
Thanks for watching :)
Once your moving through gears… example first to second… is the clutch still realised as slow as it is when setting on in first? Thanks
Glad it helped
Do you need to find the biting point as you go up gears?
As in you put clutch in, hit it up to 2nd gear, then do I need to instantly reingage the throttle as I'm letting go of the clutch or once I've let it go?
You are really instructor bro
Thanks for watching
I can drive a car, so would it be the same for a motorbike, but with different controls?
I downshift to 2nd gear when there is a turning, when I leave the clutch. It go forward suddenly( like stalling ) but it doesn't turn off , solution please
You haven't explained how you drop down gears. Do you go up or down on the pedal?
Down
Up to go up and down to go down?
