  • We're talking about Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur again in this Simple Thoughts. This time I'm going over the episode Skip this Ad...Olescence. It's an important episode that deals with Moon Girl skipping past the mundane parts of her youth and seeing the ramifications of doing so. #moongirl #moongirlanddevildinosaur #disneychannel

Moon Girl was able to touch upon a unique topic of mindfulness when it comes to the youth and father-daughter relationships. Do you feel the show handled these issues well?

Personally I think it handled it great. Lunella relationship with her dad is simple and sweet. They show you during the episode how close their connection is and how invested her dad is the two of them bonding and it warms my heart. She loves her dad and doesn't want to lose the connection she has with him but she is known throughout the season to be impatient and want to skip the mundane in favor for excitement and she doesn't even realize the things she missed until there gone. And I know that it must hurt so bad when that happens. I wish I cherished more of the moments I had with my dad before I lost him. I have some but not enough.

Lunella's relationship with her family is so incredibly wholesome. And her coming to appreciate her goofy giving 110% dad instead of a non-stop highlight reel is a timeless message.

This is one of my favorite episodes of Moon Girl. I seriously love Lunella's relationship with her father as well when it comes to her family in general. I swear this show does a pretty really good job on tackling different topics and issues in such a creative and still engaging, entertaining way without said issue or topic being too water down and still able to get across a lot of meaning within the episodes that handles these issues. My favorite one being the episode with Lunella's and her feeling insecure about her natural hair. I swear that episode does such a good job on the bullcrap Black women and black girls goes through when it comes to our natural black hair and when it comes to trying to fit in or being forced to assimilate when it comes to White-Eurocentric beauty strandeds in order to at times get by in society as a black woman. This cartoon really be hitting it on so many levels its so good.

I had original thought that the addition of the self learning AI for skipster felt a bit extraneous to the story at hand when the concept of messing with your perception of time was plenty interesting on its own. But the more I thought on it and reflected its truly a chilling commentary on the attention economy we're in right now. Social media companies, tech mogols, AI advocates and the like are pouring billions into monetizing every second of our attention and working to sectionalize our interest as much as possible all for the sake of slightly higher click per minute. Lunella thought she outsmarted the AI until the AI started deciding for her, so even though she had decided to quit on her own, her interests and history had still been cultivated by Skipster and those effects weren't going away easily.

If I had a nickel for every time a modern Disney Channel cartoon used a Bill Withers song at the emotional climax of one of their episodes I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice...

the episode sends a strong message life goes by quick enjoy the good moments and bad moments but enjoy life in general to.

I like the message it sends on that episode because when your watching cartoons, you only get to watch the important moments which makes the episode and not realize how long in that show did it took from 1 episode to the next in a span of days, weeks, or months, and if all you cared about are the big moments, you would miss out the little ones that builds up everything the big ones. We all do have the habit of wanting something exciting or fun to happen in our lives immediately, but as my football coaches once told me that the little details in our lives matters.

I know this movie wasn’t the first to do it but yeah, this episode really was basically the G-rated version of Click for this generation. I remember watching that movie as a kid and genuinely enjoying it. (Even though I definitely shouldn’t have been watching it at that age lol)
Moon Girl’s take on the concept is both relevant to today’s culture but also timeless in the sense that all generations can find something relatable present within said concept.

Absolutely incredible video!!! I love this show so much, and this episode is one of my favorites!!! It’s one of the episodes throughout this season that hit me hard and has made me INCREDIBLY emotional and really made me tear up. Although I’m an adult, I think back to the times when I was younger when I just wanted time to skip for different reasons, but now I really want to make the most out of life!

I never understood why young people are in such a rush to be older.
I'm 37 years old, a stone's throw away from going over the hill, and I can tell you...being an adult isn't what you think. I know that's not the main theme of this episode but the fact that Lunella was so bent on skipping ahead through life reflects my statement pretty well

From what Ive seen, people who want to be more independent and get away from parents and school want to be an adult more than anyone. They want to party, they want to get into relationships, they want to drink, they want to make money, they want to stop listening to their parents, etc etc

    • @SilverScribe85

@@chey6073 True...but most of the stuff mentioned, you can do when you're young; namely party, have fun with friends, have relationships and even if it's in small ways, you can make money.
