The Ghost & Molly McGee really is a solid, fun time of a series and I couldn't be gladder that fellas like you are going in depth with some of its themes.
Glad you're talking about this series I feel like The Ghost and Molly Mcgee is really underrated especially with Amphibia and Owl House taking most of the light from it.
@@katzcat8719 Even if the show isn't super serialized, it has a surprising amount of continuity. Little things such as Molly's hatred for street magic get introduced in one episode then brought up time and time again, not to mention Scratch's gradual development.
As someone who's moved like 17 times, this show and video really touched me! This house episode and the Hanukkah one are my favorites so far and both did a great work showing the struggles inmigrant and low income households face and overcome. And again, great work with this analysis!
It's a really underrated show and gives off a 2000s vibe which isn't a bad thing. It's no owl house or amphibia where it's a plot heavy show which is fine. I wish people can just watch it for what it is and stop hoping it will become something that it wasn't intended to be in the first place. The humor in this show is top notch, the facial expressions are like no other show lol and the songs are amazing. Hopefully season 2 gets more attention.
"And let's face it, we've all had that thought to just Robin hood some place just so that all our troubles will go away." You are not alone. My mom constantly floats the idea. As a joke mostly, but still...some days are just harder than others.
1:04 boy that that really hits hard the most of the Struggles of Everyday life just to pay bills and working at a job to supporting the Family We all can relate
This show does it for me in ways not even the Owl House can, even though I do like that show too. The strong sense of community, friendship, and personalities are all great to see, and yeah, that episode where they sell their house really hit home for me - something like that I can't say I've seen in many other shows of its kind before and I was wondering how it would all end. Also yes, Sharon is the best. Love her.
I think Amphibia is closer on community aspects to moly mcgee, though it doesn't focus as hard on them, it lies in between owl house and moly mcgee. Between the thai community in LA and the small town community of wartwood there are similar themes. Owl house is stronger in the found family aspect and standing up to a tyrannical system. Think of the main characters, Moly McGee is a community organiser, while Luz Noceda is a resistance fighter, while Anne Boonchoy is kind of a bit of both. Spoilers for Amphibia: She does communal activities earlier on in wartwood, transitioning to her fight against Andrias and leading position in the revolutionary army marshalled against Andrias. Spoilers for the S1 finale of Molly McGee: Molly really only does stuff in the vain of resistance fighter in the season 1 finale, the current end as of time of writing, where she stands up to the ghost council in order to save her friend and challenge the notion that ghosts need to be miserable.
Don't you remember the episode where the whole family had to start working gigs for car repairs and other needed repairs/replacements. That might have been the first indication as to how precarious their financial situation is.
@@icecreamhero2375 poor seems subjective, they had the ability to, with a mortgage, buy a house. I remember when the show got announced and I really got hooked with the premise of the show about a duo with positive and grumpy protagonists, as well as the character designs themselves. I won’t lie, I did had unnecessary high expectations about depiction of the mental struggle for staying positive in dark times, or the worries that Scratch was going to be a punching bag for Molly. Look, those thoughts and worries were gone, after getting myself attached to everyone in the family (including Scratch, of course), their interactions with each other and their supportive nature. And of course, I cannot stress enough on how much I love and adore Molly McGee, her voice, mannerisms, the way she moves so bouncy and lively, the over the top faces she make, the expressiveness of her is one of the reason, why I love this character so much. And honesty, I couldn’t describe it better, than you did, Mann, I was just happy to see you made a video about this show. P.S. - no but srsly, that TWO BEST FRIENDS moment always gets me.

The end of "Home is Where the Haunt is" really warmed my heart, and reminded me of the old midwest tradition of the "Penny Auction" where neighbours would obstruct the sale of foreclosed/repossessed farms during the great depression to allow the original owners to buy their land back for pennies on the dollar.

But the episodes that really worked for me were those you spoke about, with the McGees struggling to make ends meet. I think thats a harsh reality for a lot of familes these days, and seeing the struggle to overcome what should be simple things. The van breaking down, or someone suffering a minor injury being such huge hurdles for the family made the show feel wierdly real dispite the wacky antics and supernatural elements. How Molly reacted in "the don't-gooder" was particularly interesting to me. She worked incredibly hard to sell all the candy bars, and then found out Andrea just cheated. Its not explict, but it feels like a little parallel that no amount of hard work was going to help Molly overcome Andrea starting from a place of wealth. On a side note to the general working together as a community through these struggles, I'll say it's also one of the only times I've seen a cartoon character *be homeless.* Not in the whimsical "I'm on an adventure!" but "we're living out of our car because we neglected to pay our mortgage and are trying to avoid letting anyone in school know because they'd see us differently." It truly horrifies me how bad it's gotten in parts of this country with anti-homeless infrastructure like lining public places with *spikes.* Holy crap, they're people who are struggling, not pests to exterminate or drive out! I think this might help people recognize that, for the *vast* majority of us, we're *much closer* to a few crippling bills leading to homelessness than we are to being wealthy.

i have to say i wonder if the reason art is a struggle as a career is the fact that the prices are so high i envy the people who can do art well but i like looking at the art not buying it
10:07 don’t worry, you’re not the only one who finds her attractive, which is a change of pace cause how many plum people (I don’t find her fat) do tv show make look good, that you don’t need that slender model body to be attractive.

Hardly a day goes by I don't try to talk my wife into quiting our $#!+y jobs and just spend the day robbing banks together so we can spend more time with our daughter...on a beach...that we own..on our privet island. I know what you are all thinking. Did he really pause the video right after that joke to make this comment. Il answer that after it's finished.
The problem is that Molly McGee offers the same nonsolution that neoliberal America does. In this sense it's extremely corporate Disney. When the McGees lose their house due to medical bills, the solution is- charity. There is no push for systemic change in the real world. It's a good thing that Molly and her family have so many connections and friends to start a GoFundMe page...unlike most people. It was pretty cringe-worthy how they dodged this problem.
Disney ain't exactly gonna be promoting Marx. I think the writers are doing good for their child audience given the capitalist monster they work under (assuming the writers are more left than some angry democrat on Twitter).
@@toontrooper4103 The revolution in Ghostworld and the utter destruction of a meaningless hierarchy was definitely the highlight of the series at the finale. However, I fear the second season will roll back all of this progress, to show how ghostworld just doesn't work without a Chairman of some type. Just a good liberal one this time. Whenever corporate shows stumble upon the right answer so that they can relate to the audience, they always have to yank us back and remind us not to go too far. But let's stay hopeful for season 2
Maybe in future episodes, they will go to a protest for working class that would be so cool. Especially if Molly and Sharon get artsy with their signs. I'd love to see Molly and Sharon do that together. 🥰

i have to say i wonder if the reason art is a struggle as a career is the fact that the prices are so high i envy the people who can do art well but i like looking at the art not buying it
This show is better than TOH and Amphibia, don't @ me.
Ha ha lol 😂!
👻
I do have some problems about the show and I hope it gets better in future seasons but I like the ghost and molly mcgee
10:07 don’t worry, you’re not the only one who finds her attractive, which is a change of pace cause how many plum people (I don’t find her fat) do tv show make look good, that you don’t need that slender model body to be attractive.
I beg your parden sir but I am not weird.
I’m glad we are in agreement that Sharon McGee is hot. 😌💚
Next to the owl house, TGAMmG might be the most leftist show Disney has made.
Don't you just love kids getting tortured for our entertainment?
UA-camr Second Thought has covered Workerclass-Struggles, just like UA-camr Some More News.
They know what theyre talking about, i recommend it much.
Damn dudr youre woke. Puts you ten steps ahead of some shallower channels
Molly's still annoying.
