I spent half a year in bogota in la universidad de los andes as an exchange student. It is just a phenomenal city and country. Really loved the time there.
Hi there. The weather conditions in Bogotá are not the same for whole Colombia!! Every city and region has a temperature defined by altitude as we are close to the equator. If you come to Medellín, it is more spring like conditions most of the time. The coastline , pacific or atlantic can be very hot and humid or hot and dry; the amazon, the oriental planes and every wrinkle in the three andes mountains ranges offer you a great variety of ecosystems. That´s why Colombia is the second most rich place in biodiversity , only after Brazil.
I was awfully shocked when i was watching this video. The lack of research and misinformation is astounding. As some examples, they confuse Colombia and Bogotá as the same thing switching back and forth. In most of Colombia the temperature is warm or hot. It depends ON THE ALTITUDE because it is a country located in between the tropics. Bogota is at a high elevation. They say pleople drink cerveza or eat ripe plantains with cheese and guava as a breakfast when it is not true for almost everybody ( by the way it is guava paste made mostly of guavas and sugar). They say that there are "Spanish Arepas" or something like that. Never heard of that. That you should expect avocados served with the meals-not true. ETC, ETC ,ETC
Hey! just wanted to thank you for making such a beautiful video about bogota, i always search videos and most of the time they are not as nice as you were. Thank you so much for showing the Bogota we all love. Its so cool how you respected our culture. I moved out of colombia a long time ago, so seeing this videos makes me so nostalgic, im so happy you had a great experience there.
The greeting of Buenas is very common, i get that all the time when I'm there. Bogota is very high in the mountains and the air is thinner, It's why it's so much colder there. And coca tea is important to do well! I really love Cartagena as well. Medellin and Pereira is amazing!
Im so happy to see how people fall in love with Colombia 😍🇨🇴 It’s definitely a great country to visit. If you guys like partying a little bit, you guys should go to Theatron, the biggest night club in America, wanna get something delicious to eat, crepes and waffles. yeah the colombian peso has less value than the dolar or euro even tough they use a lot of money to have a small thing like 1000 pesos can get you a cola or a cookie. I am from bogota btw
OMG. This brought back so much memory cuz I was eating at the exact same restaurant up on Monserrate. Too bad when I visited in November, it was all rainy and cloudy.
6:11 It's a traditional snack. Called "Bocadillo" it is made of a local fruit "Guayaba". It started to be popular in XX Century in Vélez, Santander. Now it's one of the most popular snacks we export around the world. Guaba, never heard of it.
I miss Bogotá. My husband's dad side of the family is from there. My husband actually proposed to me in the Iglesia de la Candelaria 😍 Ajiaco is also my favorite soup of all time! I don't think I had one terrible thing the entire time I was in Colombia. I'm thankful we walked everywhere 🤣
9:19 American indigenous people have their roots in Asia (Siberia and Mongolia).
1. Kinda bothered me when you say the city name, it's BogoTA, not BoGOta. Accent is in the last syllable. Just FYI. 2. They tell you to not go south because that's the area where many low-income/working class people live and you find a lot of places with visible poverty. A couple of 'gringos' would give too much 'papaya' there. You can visit, but you should be low-key and probably with somebody that knows the area. A lot depends on specific neighborhoods. --- Look up a map of 'Estratos en Colombia' (Economic stratification) to see how the city is socioeconomically divided by districts -- Monserrate is located around 1,2,3 estratos, so the safety of an area can't be quite correlated with low estratos. In general, you you don't flash expensive stuff like your iphone if you are alone here. ** I would say it is fine down south as a tourist until you reach 'Tunjuelito.' There are commercial neighborhoods like 'La alqueria' where you can find every textile you want, dresses, halloween costumes, etc. Also, there is 'Centro Comercial Centro Mayor' which is one, if not the largest and newest shopping mall in Bogota (great stores, movie theaters, etc). Also, there is 'El Tunal' which has another shopping mall, and a park. Lots of people fly kites here during the windy months like August. 3. Why did you hike down? You hike up and take the teleferico down. It's too much for your knees otherwise in my experience.
The cinematography was dope! You did that all with cannons and drones? Really Enjoyed the diverse commentary and havinf Sal speak both English and Spanish was a nice touch. The local vibe. Have you guys been to Iceland?!
I realize that this is a million years after the fact, but I saw this video for the first time today. It drives me up the wall when people tell travelers to Bogotá to only stay in el Norte. The northern part of the city is wealthier and more expensive because of it, and I've found that the people who live in the north can be very demeaning when they speak about any part of Bogotá that's not the Norte. We've been going there regularly for almost twenty years, and we always stay in the Candelaria. Most of the interesting sights are in or close by to la Candelaria, and staying in el Norte just means you're losing time and wasting money on cabs (which are admittedly cheap). There are some good places to visit in the north, and the nightlife is definitely better up there, but you needn't be afraid to stay elsewhere. Even places that were dodgy 20 years ago, like Egipto, next to la Candelaria, are changing, and are significantly safer than they used to be. That said, there are places surrounding la Candelaria and el Centro that you may want to avoid, and you should always keep your head on a swivel there no matter where you're walking. Please do the research first.
It is not always like that, that day was like that because at that time there were smoog problems, so the mayor decreed a day in which the use of personal vehicles is prohibited if it is not strictly necessary, but when there are no such restrictions, the city It is a complete chaos, cars and motorcycles everywhere, and there are usually traffic jams at all hours
The Best Arepas (filled with Just cheese) are grilled and buttery with little burns on the edges, If you get the right one its delicious and its all you need to eat for 5-6 hours.
I personally fell inlove with la guajira (Cabo de la vela) and el lago calima which is 3 hours away from cali and el cabo de la vela is the northest point in south america it juts out to the Caribbean sea it's a complete paradise and you make an incredible connection

well , do you know that on the Andes range mountains going from Venezuela to Chile and argentina , THERE are many, many snowy pics or mountains and snowy volcanoes also, in Venezuela, colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile and argentina we have plateaus, moorlands, pics, volcanoes, above 6000-5000 thousand meters above the sea level, the average level meters of valleys and normal mountains in colombia are between 1000 thousand meters and 4000 thousand meters, here we know also temperatures in Celsius grade of 20 Celsius grade minus or - 20 Celsius grade, of course the temperatures are not like in Alaska, Russia or USA or Canada but we have all kind of weather, temperatures and ecological and weather and temperate areas and biological different biomass areas , we have deserts, oceanic temperate forests, Mediterranean regions, tropical savannahs and plains, tropical forests or jungles , mountains jungles, mountain temperate forests, 2 shores on 2 oceans, snow or alpine regions, tundras areas from 4 thousand meters to 5000 meters above the sea level , we have regions on amazon region or basin and the plains on Orinoco basin, we have the tropical rainy shore coast on pacific ocean and a dry tropical coast on Caribbean sea , colombia is one of the most rich and megadiverse country on the world in terms of nature, of living species, different topographies , mammals, insects , fungi, bacteria's, birds, plants and also many , many natural different resources , in one square of a forest or a jungle in colombia you will find more, more living different creatures than a similar area in Canada , you are not so unique and yes , you are in a temperate area of the globe like Russia, USA or Europe, Canada, Chile, south Africa, southern australia and new Zealand but your own features are not a monopoly of yours and is stupid to make a comparison between different areas of the globe who share many things on common and have their own specificities and unique and rich and interesting features because the earth is a beautiful lady, the mother earth is our mother and home and is a living creature and also a beautiful, majestic and diverse , with heterogeneity and a rich creation of father god like other things of the universe.......
looks like you guys enjoyed Bogotá. I'm excited for my upcoming trip. I'm a Mexican American guy so the language wouldn't be a barrier for me, I don't know what to expect about the culture but I imagine it's similar or the same as Mexico. The food looks so different even though it's the same or similar ingredients (they have Avocado, corn based breads but also banana based breads too). did you like Bogotá? did you like Colombia? what type of people would you recommend Colombia to?
I am Mexican and say Hola all the time. But truthfully, we also don’t use that much. Lovely place and air looks good. Guess keeping cars off the road is helping. Ty Team. Stay safe. Can’t comment on food since never truly had its food. But hope u enjoyed

well , do you know that on the Andes range mountains going from Venezuela to Chile and argentina , THERE are many, many snowy pics or mountains and snowy volcanoes also, in Venezuela, colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Chile and argentina we have plateaus, moorlands, pics, volcanoes, above 6000-5000 thousand meters above the sea level, the average level meters of valleys and normal mountains in colombia are between 1000 thousand meters and 4000 thousand meters, here we know also temperatures in Celsius grade of 20 Celsius grade minus or - 20 Celsius grade, of course the temperatures are not like in Alaska, Russia or USA or Canada but we have all kind of weather, temperatures and ecological and weather and temperate areas and biological different biomass areas , we have deserts, oceanic temperate forests, Mediterranean regions, tropical savannahs and plains, tropical forests or jungles , mountains jungles, mountain temperate forests, 2 shores on 2 oceans, snow or alpine regions, tundras areas from 4 thousand meters to 5000 meters above the sea level , we have regions on amazon region or basin and the plains on Orinoco basin, we have the tropical rainy shore coast on pacific ocean and a dry tropical coast on Caribbean sea , colombia is one of the most rich and megadiverse country on the world in terms of nature, of living species, different topographies , mammals, insects , fungi, bacteria's, birds, plants and also many , many natural different resources , in one square of a forest or a jungle in colombia you will find more, more living different creatures than a similar area in Canada , you are not so unique and yes , you are in a temperate area of the globe like Russia, USA or Europe, Canada, Chile, south Africa, southern australia and new Zealand but your own features are not a monopoly of yours and is stupid to make a comparison between different areas of the globe who share many things on common and have their own specificities and unique and rich and interesting features because the earth is a beautiful lady, the mother earth is our mother and home and is a living creature and also a beautiful, majestic and diverse , with heterogeneity and a rich creation of father god like other things of the universe.......

looks like you guys enjoyed Bogotá.
Colombia es un lugar para gente adinerada
@@Andrelmorales5665 fui a Colombia y se me hizo barato. Más barato que México pero si casi igual. No mucha diferencia

What's the situation now in Medellin and Bogota in regards to Covid? Are bars, restaurants, clubs open? Are you required to wear mask outside? Moving within country allowed? Gracias :)
Yes, the major cities are without restrictions. Only certain stores and clinics require you to put on a mask

Sorry for the things you went through on your first day...I'm Rican so I can communicate w colombians very well, but you always have to keep your eyes peeled. I stood in the South Bogota and barrio Primavera...walked around normally like anyone. But I saw the map of where they were trying to send you after kicking you out of of the Airbnb, they were sending you to barrio Santa Fe. Very dangerous..
Me gusta Bogotá 👍🏼
Love it here!
