Evening, I’ve no idea why the cable was too short ha ha, but just to say I enjoyed the video!..and result, good work mate..and beautiful bike btw!..rsmf, Mark 👍
Hello. Great respect to you, Cuban MZ owners. You are famous over here. Very pleased to read your comment. I have found the Mikuni to have been excellent. Much better than my old carburettor. 👍👍
Nice bike the 125 punches well above its weight and the 150 is even better, well done fitting the new carb. What make are the mirrors that you are using please?
hello chap i fitted my carb exactly the way you did, but i found ive had to raise the tickover to 1.800 to get it to tick over smoothly without cutting out, did you have this as well, i cant see by your video if youve turned yours up too
Never had a problem with my BVF, the problems you're facing aren't really the fault of the carb. The problem with throttle input under steering angle is a result of the cable routing, pulling it one way and the other is manipulating the throttle cable itself and either lifting or dropping the slide, and an incorrect mixture is resulting in a rich condition and sooted plugs. There are plenty of resources for 2T carb tuning online which will help you get the best out of the bike regardless of carb fitted :)
Up until last month I would have agreed with you. The BVF is my original carb I’ve had on the bike for 40 years. I tried a cheap Chinese thing and binned it, went back to the BVF. It’s not a routing issue with the cable, I’ve tried every which way including the original repair manual. Its same cable, same routing with the Mikuni. But I think, due to my experience with this Mikuni, it’s a weakened return spring in the BVF carb. Hardly surprising after 40 years use. I also think the needle is worn and that the ‘choke’ enrichment was leaking, causing plugs to die and excessive smoke. Being me I will restore it in time. But the kits are very expensive as the best ones seem to come from Germany. However, this bike now does run and idle better than it ever did, even when new. Having an extra adjustment definitely helps at idle. In the 80s if it cut out I just got off and kicked it to life. I lived in the countryside. The pace of life was slow. Hardly and traffic or traffic lights where I lived. In the city, nowadays, with fast accelerating electric cars, people not looking where they are going, it’s not healthy to have the bike cut out at the lights. Modern fuels don’t help. So I’m hoping this is E10 compliant and won’t deteriorate. So, yes I agree the BVF is fine, particularly at speed. But a bit of modernisation does not harm. Especially if it gives confidence in a city environment and keeps the bike viable. Cheers for watching. 👍👍
@@CodgerBiker One of the old tricks on the MZ was not to have a tick over as this reduces the surging when the throttle is closed when in gear and moving particularly when going down hill. However once at a stand still if you twisted the bars to the left it lifted the the slide slightly via tightening the cable and therby gave a tick over. I had a simular issue re the carb choke plunger rubber coming adrift and simular issues!
As I said. I rode this bike 12,000 miles in 80s. It never bothered me. I'm just happier with it now in modern traffic. The MZ rubber might be prone to E-fuel. Can't be sure as the choke is all original and after 40 years (30 in a shed) I guess deterioration is natural. I'll restore it in time... 👍
Brilliant video love the commentary as you go along .👍Alan Northern Ireland..
Cheers. I just say what I see! 👍👍
Cracking video as always Codger, go out and enjoy riding it now..
Cheers! I certainly do. 👍👍
Everything was explained very well, thank you for the video, I'll subscribe, best regards

Cheers. The mirrors are from Aliexpress. Just search 'folding ADV mirrors on there. Lots of sources, bargain price compared to Double Take. 👍

Hello. I’ve found it actually ticks over fine at lower revs. Much better than the original ever did. 👍
@@CodgerBiker thank you, ill have to re exam mine and see why
