  • Dr. Klaper offers nutrition tips on the benefits of drinking a healthy green smoothie. He tells us that it is not a replacement for also eating greens, but a good addition to your vegan plant-based diet. Drink it slowly throughout the day to maximize absorption and reduce spiking in potassium and fructose.
    Question: Can you drink your daily dose of greens or is it important to also have them in their natural form?

I'm still struggling with a little red meat I binge I go weeks at a time no meat I get pissed of but get back on track feel like I relapse back when I was on drugs so just for today one meal at a time no meat. 22 years no drugs or alcohol 20 years no nicotine . Been trying to get this all together for 31 years now the whole program . Back to Eden read it over 35 years ago had my 1st juicer 1990s back and forth with my health journey one day at a time is all I got

    THANK YOU for this video. Recently, I started making and drinking a green smoothie every day made out of several handfuls of kale and green cabbage with 1 tablespoon of flax seeds and lots of fruit and drinking it with each meal. My meals contain cruciferous and starchy and non-starchy cooked veg, beans and small amounts of grains. The results have been great...better and deeper sleep, feeling more relaxed, whole system feels more healthy. I have been eating WFPB for several years, but only recently have gone completely SOS free (salt was too tempting.) I am 72 and need no medications.

    I eat a huge salad for dinner every day and I blend kale, celery and other veggies and viola it's my dressing.
    For those interested, I start my dressing with a soaked nut, then add in some green onion, kale, celery then depending on what I want I will add in a pepper or tomatoes. Just depends on what I have but it's a great way to get more greens in and not drink a smoothie if you don't want to. I prefer not

    I don't know how big of an issue this is... but since I know of quite a few older people including myself who have less than optimal dentition, I'd imagine it's significant... smoothies really help to get in the fruits and veggies that are hard to chew and would otherwise not be eaten. I tend to make them thick and eat them with a spoon so it isn't just drunk down, bypassing the NO production.

    It sounds good but here's the thing. I had bad gums. I learned that eating more salad greens improves your gums. Another benefit to eating your greens.

    I tend to take my time & swirl each mouthful of smoothie around in my mouth. It takes me about the same amount of time to ingest it as it would to eat a salad.
    I get way more greens in daily than I do otherwise.

    Very true regarding the amount of greens in smoothies (for some of us that is).
    The 10 ounces or so of kale and broccoli that I get per day in my smoothies would be a pain in the butt to try to chew all of that. Plus, I know greens are good for me and I hate the taste of Kale (unless it is smothered in unhealthy dressing but I avoid that like the plague) so I just have to vitamix it up with some fruit and plant milk to make it taste good. With banana and some strong tasting and tart berries like raspberries, that kale flavor doesn't stand a chance. The broccoli is pretty neutral.

    I enjoy eating greens, I just enjoy eating in general and only add greens to a fruit smoothie as an added ingredient, typically 3-4 fresh broccoli or kale baby greens from the garden. Otherwise, I’m eating spinach, broccoli and the rest cooked and served in various ways with pasta, rice, with potatoes, with savory oats, etc.. and adding nuts like walnuts, usually eating those raw as a snack or adding those as an ingredient to lentil no meatballs, or making the potato cashew sauce for pastas, etc. I have found that since almost totally eliminating Olive Oil, which I was eating daily, that my skin has significant dried and on my arms, craped. So I’ve started adding Olive Oil back in but in much smaller amounts than I use to consume, and not everyday. I did notice hair shredding much more than usual too, and just watched the episode about this topic, so I need to pay more attention to getting Omega-3’s from what I gathered.

    I am someone who never had a great relationship with greens, i can sit here and blame my childhood, parents, society, whatever! I’m an adult dammit. And I WANNA IMPROVE MY GREENS. Every week, month, year, I make it a goal to eat more veggies. I start off great but gradually decrease cus well- it’s boring. I don’t look forward to eating spinach. But I do look forward to blending it. I’ve been blending my veggies and so far, I’ve consumed more greens in a day than I have probably my entire life. I’m following a routine of green smoothie for breakfast and so far I love it!

    Unfortunately I’m a VERY picky eater, as a child I would always vomit certain good unfortunately and honest to god as I grew I thought I’d eat more veggies. Well I was wrong, I started to like some other things but that’s like ranch and sorta ketchup and stuff ya know! Simples... recently though. I did try celery with some peanut butter, it didn’t taste so well at first but it tasted good. I’m not a big fan of salads although I do like my salads with eggs ( boils ) and some croutons ✨ I’m hoping to enjoy more greens aside from these daily few

    The only issue with not drinking it within 15 minutes of making it is fermentation. Once you break the cell walls of the fruits and vegetables they start fermenting, and after 15 minutes it starts turning too acidic, not to mention rancid.

    • @dvdmon
      @dvdmon 3 роки тому +1

      Rancidity is a property of fats, not the mostly water, sugars, and starches that make up fruits and veggies. As for turning acidic, I’ve never heard of this, and certainly not within 15 minutes, perhaps you have a reference?

    • @johnkm77
      @johnkm77 3 роки тому

      @@dvdmon , if you're adding nuts, seeds, avocados, coconut, or even turmeric or ginger to your shakes or juices there will be oils present.
      Lactic acid fermentation is a natural breakdown process of fruits and vegetables. Go ahead and make some vegetable juice, drink half of it, and leave the other half on the table for 20 minutes, then drink and and let me know if you taste a difference. After 20 minutes it will taste mvu different and more acidic. The longer it sits there, the more acidic it will get (up to a point of course).

    I heard on the nutritionfacts channel that eating large quantities of raw, high oxylate greens (spinach/ beet greens etc.) can result in kidney stones - just something to be aware of.
    Also even consuming fruit can have a negative health impact when consumed quickly in large quantities.

    I already spend a lot of time eating. I don’t have an hour to drink an 8 ounce glass. Who actually spends an hour with a meal? That would be approximately 3 hours a day just eating, never mind the prep and clean up. With prep and cleanup, meals would take about 6 hrs/day. Not practical. I drink my smoothies slowly but it appears I am a 100 m sprinter compared to Dr K.
