    Nice talk
My dad is 94 and has just written a book: Fit at any age ( Retd Air Marshal PV Iyer.)
His blue zone lies in his running and home gym. He is so sharp that he makes 9 and 10 letter words in Boggle and very often beats his children and grandchildren at the game.
He ensures he sleeps well and actively participates in family get- togethers
Oh yes, he is vegetarian and very trim.

I was a ricebased vegetarian till 2021. Then came across Doc John McDougall's work and threw out the dairy and extra oil.
Won the bronze recently in the TCS World 10k ladies race with a timing of 1 hour nine minutes at the age of 66. Feels great throwing out dairy. I coach tennis and teach piano too.
My family is positively influenced by me when I tell them the evils of dairy. My small 5 grandkids are impressed too.
In fact, in my dad's book, he mentions that vegan is the way to go forward!

I made the transition to veganism nearly 13 yrs ago after watching under cover footage of the animal farming industries which shocked and horrified me to the core. I have been the healthiest and fittest iv ever been thanks to this ethical and kind way of living. I am nearly 69 yrs of age and my only regret is that i was kept ignorant and brain washed for the majority of my life. When we know better and different, we can be better and different. I love to read and see that veganism in on the increase as more and more people are discovering the truth about the cruel and evil animal farming industries. Veganism is the best most ethical and healthiest way to live and let live. Education is the key. It would help the next generations if they knew the truth and were educated in schools colleges and in the home all about the evil animal farming and other exploitation of animals to make a conscious change and decision based on truth and facts rather than lies/deceit and corruption.

1:06:36 the number one thing people can do is garden and be in green spaces. convert our wasteful lawns and backyards to permaculture food forest gardens landscapes with perennial drought and heat tolerant plants to provide shade and food year long for our family, friends and neighbors. It’s healthy and better for us mentality/physically and the environment. You will get your vitamins C from the medicine foods you grown and vitamin D from the sun. :)

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  6 місяців тому +4

Interesting, and exciting! It's very rare to find somebody openly demonstrate genuine curiosity and this is a beautiful sign of intelligence. What would you like to know? What are your personal goals? Here's what I would like to say to a carnivore who is honestly curious.
I thoroughly enjoy my way of living and way of eating as it's consistent with my ethical principles, simply I really love life and living play I don't like seeing animals hurt and when I realized I don't need to contribute to their suffering and I can even live healthier as a result and also not have such a big footprint on the world I can't imagine doing anything else. So for me there's every reason not to eat animals and every reason to be vegan. But when I say Vegan I mean as a philosophy. It's more than just what we don't eat it's also what we don't wear and essentially just not exploiting or commodifying animals.
When I first went vegan in 2011 I purely did it for the animals after watching Gary Yourofsky's best speech. At that time I was predominantly pescatarian and had already almost entirely removed all other animals out of my diet. So I was primed up for it you can say. And this made the transition for me easy.
The first 5 years I didn't tell anyone I was vegan I just basically did my normal day-to-day thing. It was challenging because I didn't do a lot in the kitchen but I'd already had a predilection for eating salads and bean burritos and things when I went out to eat. 5 years later around 2016 I started learning about nutrition and realized everyone can do this and they're really doesn't seem to be a need to consume animals at all so when I set out to see if that was in fact true I couldn't find any justification for consuming animals. So I started vegan linked in 2017.
Now I eat almost entirely 100 percent whole plant Foods consisting of legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices and a variety of each. I'm still learning and fine-tuning things because at 50 years old I haven't been doing this my whole life and even those I know who have been vegan their whole life are still learning things. It's the best decision I've ever made and everyone I know who's doing it, the biggest regret we have is not doing it sooner. I'm sure this is something most people can probably say even with other diets but not having done it this long and this is not just a diet, it's a lifestyle. When you truly go vegan you will find a way to make the diet work within the tens if not hundreds of thousands of edible plants to choose from.
I'm healthier at 50 than I was in my thirties and most people I know who have been doing this 20 plus years say the same thing and the vegans who have been their whole life and continuing to learn and eat a well-planned diet absolutely are doing better than our non-vegan counterparts and have been for many many decades. And the totality of evidence scientifically supports this which is why the leading health organizations clearly state that a well-planned vegan diet is healthy and appropriate for every stage of life and may even be protective against chronic diseases that result in lower quality of life and ultimately premature death.
I have people on my channel like doctors of nutrition or cardiologist or various walks of relevant professions that will explain how an elimination Diet like the carnivore diet, keto, paleo, atkins, Weight Watchers Etc may have transient benefits. But they're all a reiteration of the previous failed fad version due to their inability to maintain long-term results. So those anecdotes are not backed by the totality of evidence or long-term success.
There can be a learning curve to implementing this based on where you are, what kind of support you have, what kind of access to food you have, and so on. But I've traveled all over the country interviewing people who are vegan and have been doing this a long time and I have yet to come across a situation where somebody couldn't do this because we all have access to these options to some extent at least sufficiently enough.
Right now I am in the process of finishing transitioning into releasing content comprised of vegans who haven't been as long. But I do have a lot of long time vegans on my channel and lifelong already. I'm making way to release long time and lifelong vegans all year next year. I think it's pretty telling to see people having done this successfully for 20, 30,... even 70 plus years, even their entire life, even multi-generational. And this is something you won't see in the carnivore movement.
Something else you won't see in the carnivore movement is such a vast and diverse pool of relevant professionals like as many cardiologists as I have on my channel, nephrologists, pediatricians, bariatric surgeons, neuroscientists, professors of nutrition, scientists, General Practitioners, gastroenterologists, doctors of Public Health, dietitians, nutritionist, etc. You also won't see in the carnivore movement and equivalent to what we have like Physicians committee for responsible medicine, American College of Lifestyle medicine, nutritionfacts.org, National Health association, Hippocrates wellness, true north, support from Academy of nutrition and dietetics, and even things like National Academy of science, World Health organization, Kaiser permanente, medicare, American College of cardiology, American Cancer society, American Heart association, I could go on and on with the support we have.
The carnivore diet does not have any of this. All they have are UA-camrs like Dr Chaffee, Saladino, Baker, Berry, and Bart and these people haven't been doing it long. Most of them don't even have significant, relevant experience in nutrition or a clinical environment like the doctors I know; such as Dr Brooke Goldner, Dr Goldhamer, Dr Sabatino, Dr Duhrman, Dr Stancic, Dr Scott Stoll, Dr Baxter Montgomery, Dr Esselstyn, Dr Columbus Dr Lowndes, Dr Yami, Dr Nyugen, Dr Michael Klaper, Dr Beth Motley, Dr Milton mills, Dr Garth Davis, Dr Barnard, Dr Esser, Dr John McDougall, Dr Campbell, I could probably go on and give you more than twice as many of that right off the cuff and many of these people have been doing this for like half a century practicing what they preach with relevant experience working with tens of thousands of people.
Eating animals is Gravely unsustainable which is why there's over 200,000 concentrated animal feeding operations in the us alone and that's putting it lightly is probably over 400,000 if you lower the bar. Animal agriculture uses more than 10 times the amount of land but only produces 20% of Global Food intake. CAFOs are toxic to surrounding communities which is why they have biohazard signs when you enter their properties and real estate agents have to divulge their in proximity when showing real estate. And this doesn't even go into the vast destruction of rainforests due to animal agriculture being so invasive and destructive.
Furthermore, this dysfunctional relationship with animals fosters zoonotic diseases we all have to deal with as well as antibiotic resistant bacteria. The jobs are horrific for the slaughterhouse workers as well and everything about this fuels a violent, destructive culture. I have grandchildren on the way and I don't want to foster a future of concentrated animal feeding operations and slaughterhouses. Rather, a future of food Forests, veganic Farms, Community Gardens, food not Lawns, and greenhouses is far more dreamy, non-violent, sustainable, and healthy for everyone.
Humankind is obviously at a most unprecedented transitional point in our evolution. It's completely understandable how we got to this point and why people would be confused with so much misinformation. Eventually artificial intelligence perhaps will help us elevate the truth that others tried to manipulate for personal and corporate gain or whatever vile or malicious intent they have or maybe they just honestly are confused. Sure in the past we depended on doing all kinds of barbaric things but these are not reasons to continue doing these things. And this is why we become more Humane humans as we are striving to be a more civilized society ♥️
Some people may have a hard time transitioning because they live their whole life doing things completely different. So it's understandable they would not know how to do this. But a true vegan we'll find a way. For me it was easy because I gradually found my way into this. I essentially have been vegan forward since I was a child. And in the 90s I already gave up red meat and chicken for the most part and had a predilection for beans and greens and Grains. But others may find it difficult for a variety of reasons; for example, perhaps their microbiome needs to adjust so they need to systematically introduce these Foods until they can acclimate or maybe they just need to learn how to do more in the kitchen. These things may take time, especially in the beginning but eventually they become second nature and very enjoyable. And eventually you develop a sophisticated palate because all taste is acquired except for human breast milk so you can learn to love something that loves back.
It may also be challenging because we're still living in a predominantly non-vegan world. So our family, friends and local businesses may have a hard time understanding or even accepting what we're doing. But that's where we as forward thinking leaders in this movement work to educate others.
Someone wanting to do this may find it advantageous to befriend someone who's successful at doing it already. Keep learning and finding ways to improve your life in every way possible. And if you have difficulties seek assistance from a qualified professional like someone who practices lifestyle medicine.

    • @VeganLinked

Health is not just what we do and don't put in our bodies nutritionally speaking but it's also things like quality sleep, not doing drugs, social support, stress management, exercise and nutrition. And this is what a lifestyle medicine practitioner may help you focus on and fix.
But to become vegan, all you have to do is stop exploiting animals. When I went vegan and 2011 I just stopped eating them and stopped buying things that used them the best I could. The first year I didn't do it perfectly but I kept trying and learning and before you know it I was well on my way to becoming almost a perfect vegan lol. I say almost because there's still things I can do to take things to another level. Like now I bring my own bags to the grocery store and I buy produce that's not packaged when I can, stuff like that. But don't let Perfection be the enemy of progress and definitely don't let it get in the way of compassion.
I imagine most people including you I really don't want to hurt animals. And the truth is you don't have to and when done right it can be the best thing you've ever done for your life in every way possible. And as a result you can be helping others live the best life they can live. There are endless resources out there but never hesitate to ask for help! Vegans are always more than happy to help.
Some vegans may be a little more challenging to deal with since not everyone is as tactful or knowledgeable, especially the new vegans who may be a little more shocked by what they've learned and anxious to see the world change. And we're all still human so don't let any one or group of vegans give you a bad taste for this lifestyle. Every Walk of Life has vegans and I'm sure you can find plenty in the hundred million vegans out there with a little effort. But at the end of the day you only need yourself to do this. And the internet helps a little.
You can find plenty of recipes by just doing a Google search for "Whole Food plant-based vegan recipe..." for whatever food you're wanting to prepare. I love nutritionfacts.org because it was a great tool for educating me about nutritional science. And his daily dozen app is free and backed by the most comprehensive analysis on nutritional science. So it's a great way to get the ball rolling toward being a healthy vegan.
The first five years I was vegan I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't care I just didn't want to hurt animals. Fortunately I had my blood work done in 2010 because every year I would get sick like twice a year. After being vegan for about 5 years I noticed I don't get sick anymore and I had to go to the doctor to get my blood work to save money on insurance. So I compared my blood work and my health had improved dramatically and all I had done was remove animals from my diet.
This was easy for me because I was already eating enough plant Foods before I went vegan. Along away my diet has changed and progressively become more simple at the same time. This is all just me of course and my n of 1 perspective. But I can guarantee you there's not a carnivore out there who has a pitch half as good. There's literally zero science to support the carnivore movement meanwhile the totality of evidence for decades has been pointing at eating whole plant Foods.

@@snowboardgirl1000 that's probably because you have messed yourself up to the point of having something like insulin resistance Maybe. It sounds like you might have diabetes or prediabetes. Going carnivore just masks the symptoms. Do you know what a whole food plant-based diet is? Because that's what we are doing. We'll just eat carbohydrates we whole plant foods which have carbohydrates but they have all of the other macros and micronutrients as well. It sounds like you would benefit from someone who practices lifestyle medicine. That is, if you want to get yourself on the right track where you're eating whole plant foods and benefiting from how awesome that can be for you. You're basically on an Elimination Diet that only has transient results. You seriously should see a physician that practices lifestyle medicine or dietitian or nutritionist but probably a physician. Unless you can find a doctor that understands enough about this way of eating so you can learn how to do it properly.

    • @VeganLinked
      @VeganLinked  6 місяців тому

@@snowboardgirl1000 it's not the carbohydrates that were the problem it's the mixture of other things you were eating with it. For example if you don't live right can eat properly you can get fat buildup on your insulin receptors preventing glucose from entering your cells and causing diabetes. And what I mean by live right is like I mentioned earlier, it would probably help if you consider other lifestyle behaviors as well like getting proper exercise. A lot of people they eat high fat processed and animals, then they sit around all day and get insulin resistance and her feet swell up. And this is no way to live.

I understand that "Globally deaths among adolescents aged 15 to 19 years accounted for 43% of all deaths in those aged 5 to 24 years" and 99 percent of these people aren't vegan. So, maybe Jane was lucky to at least have lived out her days with a higher quality of life because she was vegan. Maybe she lived longer because she was vegetarian and went vegan. I understand 99% of the 3.4 million people nationwide that have epilepsy are not vegan. Over a million adolescents die every year that aren't vegan or vegetarian. So, please refrain from making ridiculous, grossly dangerous overgeneralizations.
Also, your nutrients that you claim cause seizures are found in plants; even D in mushrooms and b12 in water lentils. But, we can depend on sunshine and supplement when that's not possible; same with B12 since that's synthesized by bacteria; 80% of which those supplements go to animal agriculture. Fortified beverages and foods can also be a good source when they're minimally processed at least.
The other nutrients we can find in nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, greens, vegetables, etc. If that's hard to do consistently, perhaps a supplement could help. But, your body does not need daily replenishing via RDA's; rather, replenishing happens over time and days, esp. considering how they may be 2 standard deviations higher for a healthy individual. And RDA's are based on normal populations, not populations properly adapted to a well-planned vegan diet.

Heart disease is the number one killer of people today and cancer is number two.
Being over weight is the number one factor leading to an early death.
People who are over weight have higher risks for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences.
There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese.
What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications.

Actually the science suggests that eliminating animal will reduce your risk for chronic diseases and plants are protected against many of those chronic diseases. So what you've done is an Elimination Diet but it's a death based fad diet that is indicative of transient results with long-term consequences. People have add far more success for many decades longer just eliminating everything except for the tens if not hundreds of thousands of edible whole plant foods such as legume's, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds herbs and spices in a variety of each. Apparently you don't know that 95 plus percent of diets fail and that vegan is not a diet. Vegan is a philosophy and the healthiest way of eating are whole plant Foods. This is why vegans are more successful at demonstrating evidence and you can see this through Physicians committee for responsible medicine, nutrition facts, American College of Lifestyle medicine, the National Health Association who just celebrated their 75th annual conference, Hippocrates wellness, true north, if eating animals was so good why do they not have any equivalents to these successes? Why do they not have support from the largest health organizations all over the planet, like the largest organization of nutritionist and dietitians The Academy of nutrition and dietetics, why don't they have support from the National Academy of Medicine? It's because eating animals increases your risk and eating plants is more protective you can also hear this coming from the American College of cardiology, the American Heart association, the American Cancer association, the World Health organization, even Kaiser Permanente supports eating plants, even Medicare supports the Ornish program which is a non-invasive program for reversing cardiometabolic diseases. But you're just increasing your risk. Sure you might get symptom relief from your Elimination Diet. But you haven't been on it long and you may be masking significant underlying problems.
