@@ehhorve857 In the case for Rock Howard, he knew of his father's existence, growing up living a modest life with his mother in a small apartment, and was once interested with getting to know him. But when his mother contracted a rare disease, Rock tried his best (and failed) to nurse her to health. As her illness worsened, Rock went to Geese Tower and met his father for the first time in his life, pleaded for medical aid and told him that Marie desperately wanted to see him. Geese would have nothing to do with the matter and sent Rock away. Marie reportedly died the same night and Rock has had a grudge against his father ever since. When Terry and Geese had their final confrontation in ‘Fatal Fury 3’ and following his death, Rock had a complicated mix of loneliness and joy knowing that his father died. Naturally, Terry began to feel the weight of the consequences of his path of vengeance for his father, learning that Rock was Geese's son. After the tournament in Real Bout, Rock challenges Terry to a fight, which Terry quietly accepts. Though a beginner, Rock kept up the fight from day to night, as something awoke inside of him, being inspired by Terry's will to carve his own way through life positively. Impressed by Rock's fighting spirit and hoping to put the past behind him, Terry adopts Rock and they begin their travels together. While their relationship was soured somewhat after the conclusion of Mark of the Wolves (Rock learning Geese had a brother and said uncle claims Rock’s mother is still alive, etc), I’d say Rock is fine with Terry being one of the few positive role models in his life, especially when Geese told his only flesh and blood son to bugger off.

@aquamarinerose5405 But so early in the series we see him trying to protect the kingdom from Nightmare by removing the star rod. And Kirby just assumes Dedede is being evil. Which just makes me think Kirby just had the wrong idea about Dedede from the beginning. Isn't the last time he assumes the worst of Dedede and goes after him either. I haven't played EVERY Kirby game, but the first game is the only one I know of where Dedede is actually seen doing anything bad.
@@darrenmacqueen9884His way of dealing with Nightmare in Adventure was pretty terrible though, showing his selfishness at the time by not considering the consequences of his actions or just asking Kirby for help (Meta Knight at least had the excuse of testing Kirby). He’s also rather unnecessarily rude to Kirby in 64 and plenty of spinoffs too, so it’s no wonder why Kirby falsely blames him in Squeak Squad, which is later quite nicely rectified in Star Allies.

Fun fact: "niger" (niy-jeer) means black in latin. However this is not how the north african country was named. One possible source of the country's english name is from the Egyptian geographer Ptolemy, who wrote of a wadi-gir in modern day algeria, and ni-ger, in the approximate area of what is now Niger, which are bodies of water in north Africa
Apparently Sonic’s voice actor in his OVA is black, but even besides that, Sonic is currently regular frenemies with Shadow. Also, Sonic’s core character trait is believing in freedom for everybody, so he would DEFINITELY not say it.

In Book of Mario: Thousands of Doors, a TTYD Google Translated mod, the Yoshi Kid drops one if they’re your active party member when you’re about to face the final boss. Obviously non-canon but one of the funniest parts of that mod IMO and I felt it would be a crime not to mention it.
Oh, Fatguy703 and friends' reaction for that, with Darkk screaming "WTF" and the string of panicked "NO"s and taking the game out of the stream from Fatguy, will always make me lose my sides laughing. Wario would say it entirely TO get you to try to attack him because he'd think that's funny, and even if he lost the ensuing fight he'd think it was worth it just to have hurt someone's feelings so easily.
Minor correction, Kirby CAN talk in the games (the anime where he only says "poyo" isn't canon). His main phrase in the games and Smash bros is "Hai" which translates to "Yes". Also, the flavour text for the sleep ability in games like Return to Dream Land and Triple Deluxe are written in first person from Kirby himself. Either way, he's way to pure to even know what a slur even is.

Roy would _absolutely_ say it. His personal skill in the Heroes spinoff is consistently just racism, giving him a boost in power whenever the user isn't using any shapeshifters on their team. ... ...Although his mother could be a dragon, so he _does_ have some degree of deniability. Byleth can choose to aid Claude von Riegan, whose goal is also ending racism, so they probably wouldn't say it, but Claude is also the type to jokingly give them the n-word pass, and Byleth is socially dense enough to believe him and say it in front of people. Ike however has called Ranulf a "subhuman" when he first met him, which is derogatory for Laguz in Tellius. This _is_ because it's the only way he was taught to call them, but he's still technically said it
12:20 Min Min would say it accidentally because there are a lot of words in the Chinese language that sound like it. For example, Ni Ge Ge (pronounced exactly how you think it is) means “your older brother”

I'd say Terry wouldn't say it. He's a local hero in his small run-down town, takes care of the child of the man that killed his father, so I wouldn't say he carries that hatred with him. Plus, there are a few Black characters in the KOF series, I'd say Terry doesn't have any negative reactions with them at all. He's made an orphan thanks to Geese and plays basketball with kids. Idk, I don't think he'd think about it. That being said, his romantic interest is a cop, but overall, it seems like the only "soft A" he's hitting is "BUSTA-"
Weirdly specific peeve on a non-serious video, but most Link's do talk, we just don't hear him talk as a player or see his text boxes, but he's canonically talking to other characters very regularly.
Ok I actually looked it up because I was bored and it really does depend. The first documented use of the n word was in 1574, and simon and richter's games are set in 1691 and 1792 respectively. However, the first recorded use of it being a slur specifically was in 1775. So they'd probably both know of it, but in different contexts.
4:09 Actually, it's established in several places that Kirby _can_ talk; he just doesn't do it often, or it's not audible most times he does. • Kirby Right Back At Ya has him audibly speaking some words (at about an infant's level), as well as calling out attack names • Kirby's Avalanche has him speaking in full sentences in every single cutscene (though this was a Puyo Puyo reskin developed by another company, so IDK how canon it is) • the manuals for Kirby's Dream Land 3/Adventure/Tilt 'n Tumble either describe the pre-game story scenarios where he talks, have him directly talking to the audience, or have him describing game mechanics • Kirby Super Star has him about to tell Nova his wish, but Marx knocks him aside and gets his own wish granted instead • Squeak Squad and Star Allies have pause descriptions where Kirby describe his own abilities or give quotes ("Let's beat this guy already! After that, lunch and a nap!") • He visibly converses with others in Kirby 64 and Mass Attack - just with no voice or text box, like with other conversations elsewhere in the series (such as in Planet Robobot, where the devs confirmed that Meta Knight was yelling in a cutscene where we only see him nod) • Return to Dreamland has him participating in conversations with Magolor, though we don't ever hear directly what Kirby is saying • Mass Attack also has his disembodied soul speak to his body ("Kirby! Follow me! We can fight Necrodeus together!") • Epic Yarn has him speak in some cutscenes ("This grass feels funny. It feels like... pants.") • Heck, he even has dedicated voice lines for his copied Neutral Specials _in Smash_ (Pikachu/Pichu's, Ness/Lucas's, Robin's, Shulk's, etc.)! And Smash was made by Sakurai, who also made Kirby! Therefore, I would change the ranking to "Probably not", considering he's still very young/innocent, and is also (usually) very kind.
0:57 the thing is, sarasaland is made up of 4 kingdoms, so that makes Daisy an empress. Even if it's tiny, she still can't be offending kingdoms under her rule.

Jin: no, cookout is my interpretation as he sympathizes with historical baggage of the word. His poetry is n-word free.
Noah: probably not. He doesn’t even know it and would oppose using it on introduction.
Mio: probably not. Even if she knew Taion (has black VA) much longer, she is too considerate/sweet.
Matthew: “I have an N word pass”. In similar situation to Little Mac. But his descendants eventually are black (both Monica and Ghondor II even have black VAs), but he can’t.
Elma: is explicitly black, beyond “Is Ganondorf black?”
Chapter 4 and Torna Mythra definitely would say it. Pyra would never though
My history teacher once saw a Nintendo themed history coloring book where there was a drawing of mario and Luigi,
With mario being the civil war union and Luigi being the confederate…
I don't think this would be officially sanctioned by Nintendo, lol.
Being a politician is not a deterrent from saying it I fear
At least we know Peach won't say it on camera. God only knows what she's talking about behind closed doors.
I interpreted that tier as “would be careful that nobody’s recording them when they say it.”
She was based as hell in SMRPG when calling the weapon creatures lowlifes and that line wasn’t removed in the remake

You forgot that the duck hunt character is not only the dog and bird but also the person behind the tv using the blaster therefor he's a gamer
Smash Dedede is voiced by Masahiro Sakurai, so Dedede would not say it.
Also there totally should've been a tier for "doesn't know what that means" Piranha Plant definitely knows what that means, he just can't speak. Rosalina literally would not know what racism is.
And I feel like Bayonetta definitely listens to hip hop and would totally sing along uncensored. "How do the Americans put it? "bust a cap in yo ass?""
Your take on Bayo is 100% canon
Genuinely just heard that in her voice as i read it wtf-

Link canonically talks. You chose dialogue options all the time, he explains things to other characters, Zelda's diaries in BotW say he talks. HE CAN TALK. I'M SO TIRED OF THIS
Yes he is a silent protagonist but he's not actually mute in canon. He's just introverted and doesn't talk a lot.

Lucas should be invited to the cookout, as:
• he doesn't even know what the N word is
• has a black friend (Reggie), whom he indirectly avenges by fighting the literal Nazi pigs that destroyed his house
• fights actual nazis and the racist peddler that turned Tazmily Village into a cyberpunk dystopia
Wait, hold on, rewind the fuck up... NAZI?!
So real. Also something of note is that Reggie is a pretty racist caricature of a Black person so we should question Itoi
Agreed! Lucas is our anti-fascist king!
@@skld-xm Not really. Reggie is a pretty cool guy. I do think his appearance is stereotypical, but it isn't really racist
@@doodlesyoru2108 I... believe it still to be racist; the exaggerated appearance, while it's likely no harm was intended, still comes across as racist. More so a reflection of internalized racism from Itoi and the prevalent issue of Japanese representation of BIPOC. However that original comment was a bit of a joke, because I know Itoi didn't mean anything negative and I can look past that :) (tbh it has been a bit since I finished MOTHER 3 so I'm not sure if his stereotypical representation extends further than just his appearance)

Captain Astronaut when Kazuya shows up: "You can have my N word pass"

In the case for Terry, he's the guy who everybody in South Town calls when they need help moving their couch. Just a regular cool dude that will be wrapped up dealing with a world ending threat one moment ("Another mysterious monster butting in? Wouldn't be KoF without it!"), but will will be spotted hanging out with his mates playing beer pong at the PaoPao Cafe or to play a round or two of basketball for fun. Oh, and he's also an adoptive father that is trying to raise his kid right.
Yeah, he's the sort that gets invited to the cookout in my book.
right, about that, does anyone, including the kid, care that terry adopted the kid of his fathers murderer after said murderer died?

Thank you for getting King Dedede correct. He's not an evil man, he's like an older brother teasing his little bro. And like a good brother, stands up and helps when it goes down.
Dedede is a good boy
It's interesting how much Dedede has changed over the years.
@@aquamarinerose5405 My assumption is he was always a good king. That time Kirby thought he was stealing everyone's food, he was probably going to door to door asking for donations for the food bank. Dedede is a good guy.
@@darrenmacqueen9884 I mean... I'll strongly disagree with that mostly because I think from a narrative standpoint the idea that he seriously had to learn to go from a selfish ass to a genuine King is a great arc that I won't have erased.

Apparently Sonic’s voice actor in his OVA is black, but even besides that, Sonic is currently regular frenemies with Shadow. Also, Sonic’s core character trait is believing in freedom for everybody, so he would DEFINITELY not say it.
He didn't even have to clarify we were all just expected to understand
@@WuhHuh That was Martin Burke who is white. But Jaleel White was, I believe, Sonic's first ever voice actor in 3 different cartoons in the 90's. And he was black.

Daisys original design was actually very tan so it makes sense that she has the pass

Well, that and "Ken MASTERS???" 😂😂😂
5:50 "is lucario ganondorf?"
Damn, we really need MattPat to come out of retirement to answer this important question.
4:09 Actually, it's established in several places that Kirby _can_ talk; he just doesn't do it often, or it's not audible most times he does.
• Kirby Right Back At Ya has him audibly speaking some words (at about an infant's level), as well as calling out attack names
• Kirby's Avalanche has him speaking in full sentences in every single cutscene (though this was a Puyo Puyo reskin developed by another company, so IDK how canon it is)
• the manuals for Kirby's Dream Land 3/Adventure/Tilt 'n Tumble either describe the pre-game story scenarios where he talks, have him directly talking to the audience, or have him describing game mechanics
• Kirby Super Star has him about to tell Nova his wish, but Marx knocks him aside and gets his own wish granted instead
• Squeak Squad and Star Allies have pause descriptions where Kirby describe his own abilities or give quotes ("Let's beat this guy already! After that, lunch and a nap!")
• He visibly converses with others in Kirby 64 and Mass Attack - just with no voice or text box, like with other conversations elsewhere in the series (such as in Planet Robobot, where the devs confirmed that Meta Knight was yelling in a cutscene where we only see him nod)
• Return to Dreamland has him participating in conversations with Magolor, though we don't ever hear directly what Kirby is saying
• Mass Attack also has his disembodied soul speak to his body ("Kirby! Follow me! We can fight Necrodeus together!")
• Epic Yarn has him speak in some cutscenes ("This grass feels funny. It feels like... pants.")
• Heck, he even has dedicated voice lines for his copied Neutral Specials _in Smash_ (Pikachu/Pichu's, Ness/Lucas's, Robin's, Shulk's, etc.)! And Smash was made by Sakurai, who also made Kirby!
Therefore, I would change the ranking to "Probably not", considering he's still very young/innocent, and is also (usually) very kind.
I love that we have more characters in the "Is Ganondorf Black?" tier than we do in the "Invited to the Cookout" tier 😂
