I love how specific you are about what you're trying to do with your channel. AND you're the only person actually doing a decent amount of comparison footage while explaining the differences. I don't know why it's so hard for others to figure out we don't want to stare at them holding the camera for 99 percent of the video.
Haha yes I hear you! That’s why I add so much demo footage, because I don’t get as much value watching reviews with just one small clip. Glad it was helpful!
Just bought the Weebill S to pair with my M6 Mk ii and Sigma lenses. I'd say it's pretty much the best gimbal I've ever used and would very much recommend it above the one you showed in a previous video.
Recently purchased the m6 " was looking for some good glass you sold me on the 16 mm also purchased the rode wireless go due to the excellent review you did. keep up the good work!👍
Good review. Note: Digital I.S. Is very good in shootings situations (other than selfie). Also: the removable EVF on the M6 m2 is a huge design enhancement. I use my EVF half the time and I love that it’s detachable (size, functionality, portable etc). It’s also included kit purchases.
You had me sold on the M6 until you got to the lack of view finder and the flip up screen, Mounting a mic is a pretty big deal as is being able to change settings. I don't use a view finder all of the time, but it sure is nice when trying to get the best manual focus, which I use quit often in the blacksmith shop videos.
Hey Alicia. super video. Thanks for the straightforward honest review of the M6 mk2. I gotta say its really difficult to choose between them even now after the M50 being 2+ years old., BUT i have the M50 and maybe biased towards that. That flip up screen is a deal breaker along with the price tag. You got the right answer right at the end of the video when you said get the M50 and accessories and maybe the Sigma 16mm lens. That's the way forward if your budget will only stretch so far. Also, the M50 has had so much commentary on the lack of DPAF at 4K and sound and AF at 120fps then i really think Canon will have listened and build that into the M50 mk2. So theres the answer for the future purchase of a run and gun camera with all the bells and whistles. Canon would be totally stupid to give away its advantage the M50 holds over its competitors, so they should absolutely build that in to the next M50. Stay safe and healthy. Ray and Sue ;0))

You took a deep dive into this new camera. Right now I’m skipping the need for 4K and those few subtle differences. I’ll probably wait for the next generation camera. Vlogging and news gathering in my primary needs. I have a terrific 80D with four lenses. I’m loving the M50 over my G7X II and the Sigma 16 MM lens is remarkable. I have a gimbal but it’s seeing little or no action because of the balancing complications. I’m all over audio redundancy and use shotguns, recorders and the Rode Go. I’d like you to do a piece on the talent side of the camera. You’re highly polished, relaxed and at the same time full of energy and enthusiasm. I know you’ve got days were frustrations hamper your video making but you never let us see your sweat or smell your blood!
Oh! I'm sorry, you had asked at the end of the video which cameras we (I) use. I use two setups: M50 primary with OG EOS M as backup, matching the white balance and picture profiles. Second setup is BMPCC4K with OG EOS M with MagicLantern SD card as backup with 10-bit raw. In all cases, the old $150 OG EOS M is the key component. It pairs with anything, serves as backup to anything, uses the same lenses and LP-E12 batteries as M50, and shoots raw like BMPCC. For that reason, EF-M lenses are never a wasted expenditure for me. It's always useful on no matter which camera body. Last year I had a trip to Europe and brought M50 and M; both in my carry-on underseat backpack, same lenses, same batteries, same charger; brought one SD card with MagicLantern for EOS M, blank SD to use on both. Couldn't be better!
Great comparison video! I love my M50, and had written off the more expensive M6II. Now that I have a few (extra) EF-M lenses sitting on the shelf. I think the M6II will be a in my future budget; despite the drawbacks you listed. Unless... The M6 Mark III is released and corrects those issues!
I have watched like 100 videos about M50 vs MK2 and this is the most intersting and very well made. A lot of work, great voice and perfect presentation. I am a new subcriber;) Side by side comparrision makes a huge impact.
A very professional review indeed. Thank you. I had my canon m6 mark II last February. I had attached my microphone using the little slit for the neck strap on the side and hook there my shotgun mic, using " small nail cutter". Good thing also about flip up screen is that when you look at it while recording it wasn't as obvious in the video as compare to looking at flip out screen.
Very thorough review! The footage looks amazing on both....still a tough decision to make 😩 I’d love to future proof my setup but that flip up screen would def take some getting use to.
Something to note on the Canon IS that they don't advertise for whatever reason. They have gyroscopes so activating IS is much smoother than trying to fix it in post. Having said that, you do lose image quality.
I bought my Canon M50 last November and i really like this camera together with the kit lens and Rode Videomic Go which i'm using now.. I'm planning to buy new lens that compatible with M50 without using lens adapter..Anyway, great video 😊👍
Thank you for all the insights and analysis of both options. Your videos are very well put together and the presentation style is very good. Subbed and grateful!

Thanks so much for another great, detailed review. I don't VLOG so had to adjust my expectations. I use Canon M50 for recording my music, though with a separate condenser mic into computer. 1080 or 4K is great on the M50 for this, 1080 is best since it's more editable and smaller vid size.
Great video! VERY, VERY helpful! the fact that you never used a viewfinder in like forever made me realize how unimportant that feature is lol... especially being that I really care most about video, not point & shoot photography. If the M6 had a flip out screen and IBIS... it would be an ABSOLUTE wrap for every other mirrorless camera!!!! thanks for your insight!
Sure! But it would be much different from the one I made with my M50 and the 16mm.. the original review of that lens. The footage would look almost exactly the same assuming I didn’t shoot in 4k or something. Are you considering the 16mm and just want to see more of what it looks like?
Just started looking at the M50 tonight. It seems to be on discounted sale everywhere. Which would indicate to me that a new model should be coming soon. I would hate to buy something that is on its way out...
Yes, it’s so frustrating not knowing for sure when a new one will be released! Historically, Canon cameras get updates about every 3 years, so I’m guessing we have at least 8 months or so before the M50 Mark II comes along. I’ve learned to buy and then sell on eBay once the upgrade comes 😊
I'm also debating whether I should buy it now or wait. But again, it's 499 with the kit lens today, and the new one should arrive in a year for 899, you know? Almost twice the price. I doubt canon will make the M50 even cheaper when the new one comes out. Aaaahh idk what to do. Haha
@@AMAETV better to buy now, use it, learn, get experience and then sell it when you want to upgrade. Sitting around waiting for something we don't have a release date for just means that you throw away time you could have used to get better 😊
Team Viewfinder for sure. The lack of EVF on the M6II is a show-stopper for photographers especially those (like me) that use external flashguns where you cannot have both(EVF and flashgun). The flip-up screen of the M6II is a DISASTER for videographers as you rightly pointed out - even when you don't have an external microphone the screen is still badly designed. Even for the same money I would still choose M50. Keep up the great work. Love the video quality and your casual but informative presentation..
I love your reviews. Too bad, that you have to spend so much time apologizing for Canon's penchant to "cripple" their cameras. They have all the technology, yet they seem to deliberately leave things off cameras, evidently to not make a camera "too good" for the money? I'm not a Canon boy, but I have recommended the M50 to friends because I think it's one of the best values for the money, even though it too is "crippled." Keep up the great reviews!
This is a great video, thank you. And it stopped me from buying the M50. ;) I think I need to go with the M6 Mk ii. I come from the smartphone filmmaking world, looking for a camera to see how different the experience is going to be making a film, and this really helped me. I was about to get the M50 with a Viltrox speed booster and a few great lenses, and since I always use manual focus, it seemed like that would deal with the crop in 4k on the M50 and make it usable in that camera, but it looks like I can get the M6 and not have to use the Viltrox and have the same result with a camera that has some better options all around. Clean HDMI, auto focus in 4k if I decide to ever use it, bigger battery, etc.... seems like the better option for basically the same price when I think about the accessories needed to bring the M50 up to the M6, which it will never be because of the sensor, is that right? Thanks for the insight, I think you guided me in a better direction toward a camera I can grow with. Looking forward to seeing how much better this is going to be compared to my LG V40 phone, which has an AWESOME video camera. I decided to go this way, however, because low light on any smartphone if the real challenge... it's tough to match a proper camera for that... Anyway, thanks so much, keep up the great work, and most importantly, stay well!! Peace and respect.
Hi there. I’m a new subscriber and I’m also an educator. I’m preparing to create videos for education in my office. I just bought my M50 and I’m so excited. Can you recommend a tutorial or playlist for lenses for small space vlogging? I love your videos and I’m using you as a muse.
Hi! If you had the chance one day, I would love to see a review of the canon m50, Tamron 15-30 f2.8 with speedbooster. I can't find this combination on youtube, no one has done that yet...✌
Nice video as always, I’m on a budget and I purchase a refurbished M50 from canon bought the Sigma 16mm also just received the Sigma 30mm they work well with Weebill Lab. Taking your advice an turning off digital image stabilizer.
Great review, your videos look so sharp, I am more a camcorder guy, but now I wanna try a mirrorless camera, I've just purchased the M6 Mark 2, and I wanna start with one of the sigma lenses, which one do you think I should get first? Are they much better than the travel kit that the m6 comes with, please let me know. Your videos look as sharp if not better than a lot of other demos that I have seen with much more expensive cameras, is it your lighting technics? this video was shot with the m50 right? I hope my m6 mark 2 is able to look as good as your videos, great job.
Just watched this report again as I am thinking of swaping have you done a photo report like this please. A great report and loved the end statment which is great idea thank youstay safe
Nice info, Nice editing. I'm with you on the M6 & the flip up screen wouldnt bother me. As for foe the Mic restriction you can buy a Shoe mount to go on the side....problem solved. Great video again well done girl I just Sub you. 👍
Would really like to see the processing for collating University lectures - human movements /training video then adding slides, , voice-over - How you prepare your presentations. Prep a UA-cam channel for a training site. Thank you
I have the canon M50 and its not really good and I feel like it has bad quality, my canon g7x mark ii has better colors, in my opinion. I was thinking of getting the M6. Could you do a video on video settings for the M6 mark ii, like what you did for the M50. Thanks
Are you using the kit lens on the M50? Most of the quality you see will come from the lens rather than the camera, so I'd think of upgrading that first. The G7x does create some awesome imagery.. and yes I will do an M6 settings video sometime soon!
Really enjoying your channel :) Out of interest, does the m6 mk ii shoot HDR video in 24fps - or is HDR only available in the 25fps/30fps modes? Thanks for sharing!
*subbed* much love from vancouver canada, really great video! been leaning on the m6 mark ii or maybe get the eos R or RP its around the same price if not that much more! still deciding tho!
Everyone knows that megapixels do not count if we talk about video ... it makes no difference, because the 4k format is 8 megapixels, so what you explain in the video sails only for the photos, but it seems to me that this movie does especially reference to the video.
you are so wrong saying that the M6 makr 2 is more expesive because it is newer.. only comparing the specs shows that it is a different camera with totally different specs. Higher resolution, higher frame rate, USB-C charging, different battery..
Do get the small rig relocation mount! they have TWO versions, one on top and one on bottom. I actually like the one that goes on the bottom because you can then leave a tripod mount on it the camera (because there are multiple screw holes available with the SmallRig mount) AND get to battery door.
Thanks for making choosing easy for me. I went with the Canon M6 Mark II with Sigma 16 and 30 f/1.4 EF-M lenses using your links. Please what is wrong with the Feiyutech G6 MAX GIMBAL? You seem to like it a lot in your review video of that product and now you said you are still looking for the right gimble. Please i'd like to know before t take the plunge. I look forward to reading your reply.
if the video on the M6II was comparable to the XT40 or A6600 I would've upgraded my M50. Going to wait instead there are rumors of a high-end M camera coming out later in the year with IBIS and much better 4k
@@AMAETV Yeah there's actually 2 new M series cameras rumored for late 2020/early 2021. One is an M50II and the other a higher end M camera that will be the flagship M camera with IBIS and better build quality see link below :-) www.canonrumors.com/the-eos-m-lineup-will-be-addressed-later-in-2020-cr1/
Thank you so much for the awesome video and great personality! Very clear and to the point. Very informative as well!! does this camera shut off while vlogging after a certain amount of time via hdmi? I use an Atem Mini Pro to stream and a canon m50. But the m50 shuts off after 30 minutes. I don't use the record functions. I just need canons amazing eye so to speak. I have the sigma 16mm and love it! also have other great lenses with adapters for the m50 mount. Peace!
Hi, thanks for all the great info! My wife and I have been enjoying your channel :-) We're expecting our first baby and have invested into an M6 Mark ii... I'm new to photography/video (I'm actually an audio engineer/producer by trade). In light of learning, I've shot some test clips in 4k/24 and am getting what I feel is an uncomfortable amount of judder... not "horrible" but not awesome. Shutter speed is set at 50 with aperture/ISO adjusted appropriately. I'm currently still shooting the kit lens with the "standard" IS on. I'm also using the G6 Max gimbal (after your excellent videos!) set up properly without any vibration. I'm struggling for answers as how to get the buttery 4k/24 footage I'm seeing on so many other videos. Are you shooting much 4k/24 on your M6? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much
Hi! Just one question from your amazing video. How are the preamps compared to the m50, is there a background hiss on the m6 ii too? If none, I would upgrade immediately since this is what’s bothering me the most with the m50.
Hello thanks for all your videos on the M50. If I want to shoot portrait, food and also bit of editorial looking fashion shoots would you say the 16mm 1.4 sigma can do it? Bit indecisive as I am purging my Fuji + Panasonic gear. 16mm 1.4, 22mm for all-round and 30mm 1.4 sigma is my eventual plan but for now if it's just 1 lens which can you recommend + my kit? Thank you!
It’s so hard to just pick one! If you’re serious about up close portraiture I would not pick the 16.. although it’s better for fashion and fitting a full body in frame with some background. You could make the 30 work for that as well though, and the 30 would be better for food.. although the 16 would work for food too, it’s just a different look. Haha sorry it’s just so hard to decide! Maybe go to a camera store and see if you can try a few at these focal lengths to see..
I am just about to buy my first vlogging camera but I would like one that I can also grow into (practice cinematic b-roll, slow motion video, etc.). I have been looking at the M50 and also the M6 Mark II since I am also a Canon girl :-) but I just cannot get the Sony A6400 out of my head. We'll see what I end up buying. :-)
@@TrulyHaja Hi Truly! Ohh, I am still deciding but I have abandoned the idea of getting a Sony camera. Now I am stuck between the Canon M6 mark ii and Canon 90d (the latter has 99% of all the features that the M6 has + a couple of nicer ones like the fully articulating screen, weather sealing, etc.). The 90D is a DSLR whereas the M6 is a mirrorless which means that the latter will be lighter in weight, which I really like. But I have some EF and EF-S lenses which would fit perfectly on the 90d (without having to buy any adapters). So yeah, still haven't purchased anything but soooo close :-) Are you considering to get the M50 or M6 mark ii as well or do you already own one of those?
One more question, I have attempted to get a cell phone holder for the feiyuTech G6 MAX and the one they sent doesn't fit. Where did you get the one you use on that gimble?

The flip-up screen of the M6II is a DISASTER for videographers as you rightly pointed out - even when you don't have an external microphone the screen is still badly designed. Even for the same money I would still choose M50. Keep up the great work. Love the video quality and your casual but informative presentation..
Which of these is better for photography? Landscape and/or Milky Way ?? Thanks
Nice comparison, thanks AMaeTV ❤️
Is it true the camera sounds really good without a mic? Someone told me they've improved the audio quality would love to see a test
Omg the baby is stunning
Nice video as always, I’m on a budget and I purchase a refurbished M50 from canon bought the Sigma 16mm also just received the Sigma 30mm they work well with Weebill Lab. Taking your advice an turning off digital image stabilizer.
im planning to buy M50. do i need to buy some adapter for the lenses?
Not with the Sigma M-mount
@@johnnyjmartinez8293 can i use it straight ahead to M50?
@@wilsonrositaortiz5037 Yes, both work really well with M-50, these two lens is all I use.
@@johnnyjmartinez8293 thanks
Can't wait to watch this!🔥
Nice info, Nice editing.
I'm with you on the M6 & the flip up screen wouldnt bother me. As for foe the Mic restriction you can buy a Shoe mount to go on the side....problem solved.
Great video again well done girl I just Sub you. 👍
What a Perfect Explanation !! ❤
Thank you so much absolutely auto subs \\
Thank you for this thorough review!
Would really like to see the processing for collating University lectures - human movements /training video then adding slides, , voice-over - How you prepare your presentations. Prep a UA-cam channel for a training site. Thank you
Cutest kid I've ever seen 😁
Thank you for the amazing advice you covered everything!
I really love your reviews. Thanks!
Yes pls I need the best video settings for M6 mark ii. Thanks for the informations.
Thanks great video!! :)
Really enjoying your channel :) Out of interest, does the m6 mk ii shoot HDR video in 24fps - or is HDR only available in the 25fps/30fps modes? Thanks for sharing!
Do you happen to have a website where you sell your old cameras?
*subbed* much love from vancouver canada, really great video! been leaning on the m6 mark ii or maybe get the eos R or RP its around the same price if not that much more! still deciding tho!
Lots of useful info here! Subbed!
Gosh im on the fence. I am in between waiting for the (Hopefully coming) M50 Mark 2... I just want the screen that comes out to the side.
Which sigma lens do you recommend for vlogging for the canon m6?
Everyone knows that megapixels do not count if we talk about video ... it makes no difference, because the 4k format is 8 megapixels, so what you explain in the video sails only for the photos, but it seems to me that this movie does especially reference to the video.
The best video I've ever seen, give us more please.....😘
Wow, of all videos ever? Thank you! 😄Would you like to see more about the Canon M50, or the Canon M6 Mark II?
you are so wrong saying that the M6 makr 2 is more expesive because it is newer.. only comparing the specs shows that it is a different camera with totally different specs. Higher resolution, higher frame rate, USB-C charging, different battery..
Your audio sounds superb!!!!
Thank you! It's that Rode mic :)
Terrific value add to my world.
I love the M6 Mark II. The video quality is great and you can operate everything with one hand.
I just bought a M50. I have this awful hissing background noise. Is the camera faulty? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP 😭😭😭
What Lexar card you´re using to record 4K on the M6 Mark II? 170 MB/s transfer rate?
Aside from the image crop and the change of autofocus, does the 4K still look good?
Do get the small rig relocation mount! they have TWO versions, one on top and one on bottom. I actually like the one that goes on the bottom because you can then leave a tripod mount on it the camera (because there are multiple screw holes available with the SmallRig mount) AND get to battery door.
New to your channel, I have the Canon m50 and I just want to say Thanks. Love your videos have you tried the DJI ronin sc? If so what do you think?
Thanx hun some great points :)
Well that is interesting! What are the rumors? Like an entirely different M camera?
@@AMAETV I guess he's referring to the new M5. I don't see an M50 II or M60 coming with IBIS.
@@AMAETV Yeah there's actually 2 new M series cameras rumored for late 2020/early 2021. One is an M50II and the other a higher end M camera that will be the flagship M camera with IBIS and better build quality see link below :-)
www.canonrumors.com/the-eos-m-lineup-will-be-addressed-later-in-2020-cr1/
@@victorsabioni Yeah the rumor is it's going to be better than what an M5II would be - see the canonrumors.com forum for more info
Peace!
I am planning to buy a cannon camera but what are this camera you have been mentioningbisvthe best for vlogging?
Thanks so much
Teriffic video!! Thank you!
12:10 THE M50 & M50ii BOTH HAVE 120FPS, BUT ONLY AT 720P RESOLUTION. M6ii HAS 120FPS AT 1080P I THINK.
Hi! Just one question from your amazing video. How are the preamps compared to the m50, is there a background hiss on the m6 ii too? If none, I would upgrade immediately since this is what’s bothering me the most with the m50.
Fantastic analogy!
Thanks! Which analogy? I feel like there may have been a few 😆
You are the reason I bought Canon G7x Mark III too >__
Hi! Would like to ask the best vlogging set up/settings for canon m6 mark ii still using the lens that it comes with :)
Does it heat up like Canon g7x Mark III when recording in 4k?
M6ii features in an M50 body would be awesome.
Yessss, I hope that happens on the M50 Mk II
i'm concerned about the 4k upsampling...
Loved it
Hello thanks for all your videos on the M50.
What did you end up buying?
So yeah, still haven't purchased anything but soooo close :-)
Are you considering to get the M50 or M6 mark ii as well or do you already own one of those?
@@kristinamathiasen8190 Hi Kristina, just curious what did you get?
One more question, I have attempted to get a cell phone holder for the feiyuTech G6 MAX and the one they sent doesn't fit. Where did you get the one you use on that gimble?
