Love the cover-artworks! I bought all books when they were published for the first time, because this was at least some kind of BSG-"merchandise" which was available in Europe back in the time. Interesting is, that we got for most of it other cover artworks then in the US. I have never read the final books, so your vid is a great reminder to finally do so...
Thanks!
Nice collection there. Love the cover artwork on these. Don't see them very often in the UK. Only the Saga of a Starworld/movie novelisation is pretty easy to come across here. The UK cover features Ralph Mcquarrie's artwork, including an old design of the Basestar as explained in the book.
Very cool! I have to look into collecting those editions. Thanks for watching!
A school mate of mine went on a trip to the USA around 1980/81 and I asked him to find me some Galactica models, he didn't return with any but he did get me a brand new copy of "Galactica Discovers Earth" which was still quite exciting to get and was an interesting read as I had heard little or nothing about Galactica 1980 at that stage.
Great story! Thanks for sharing!
I have four of the earlier ones but haven't seen the rest of them anywhere. I always found it interesting in the novelization of the pilot that the Atlantia and Galactica were different designs, Atlantia described as a boxier ship designed for diplomatic purposes. A foreshadowing of different battlestar designs in the new series.
I wish that we would have seen that on the show!
You gotta love that amazing art work on the covers.
I’m planning a future episode that looks at that great art! Thanks for watching!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 nice one, looking forward to it

I have the whole set and I've read them numerous times each. There was a long period of time when Galactica was not being broadcast. These books were my fix. There are a lot of things from my youth I can get rid of but my Galactica stuff, are cherished pieces of my childhood.
I’m the same way! Thanks for watching and sharing your memories!
I have all the novels! Had them for decades. I am just rereading my collection and encountered your video (I like looking on youtube for vids of obscure novels whenever I do a reread.
How did you like Surrender the Galactica? I’m planning an episode on that one!
I have all of these ! Love them…!
They are a fun read!
I just got the first two off ebay a couple of weeks ago. I had read the first novelization as a kid. I'll pick up the rest of them before your other 132 subscribers drives up the price!
Lol! Your right! Especially Surrender the Galactica which is already expensive!
Both Berkley and Scholastic published a "special edition" of the first book, wherein a brief mention of drug use was edited out.
Did not know that! Thanks for the info.
I have the first book but a different cover. I also have the novelization that's kinda like a comic but with pictures from the show. And I had one that was written by Richard Hatch but that was not from the 70s
The Richard Hatch books are a whole different vibe! I plan a video on them soon. Thanks for watching!
You asked what side of the fence I am on with Surrender the Galactica: I haven't read it in well over 2 decades (I am up to book 6 in my rereads), but I really liked two elements especially: there is a girl Boxey's age who is kind of streetsmart, and it looks like Lucifer (the IL Cylon) will defect. Both things really appeal
Have you read Surrender the Galactica yet? It’s nuts! Let me know what you think of it!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 Did you see my comment? I just answered that
I’ve got the full set. The last four are more scarce and command higher prices, though. Those last few are not based on any TV scripts or shows.
Your right. Prices on those four have really gone up over the past few years.
I had the first 5 books but years ago my cat knocked over a big cup of water on them and warped them and they got watermark stains. Damn cat! I should of had a daggit instead.
Lol! Thanks for that great memory!
@@battlestarcollectica7106 I wish I could say it was a great memory but to honest I'm still a little upset by it. I found those 5 books at the Long Beach (CA) Antiques and Collectables show in the mid 1990s and bought them for a song! Then my dumb cat ruins them 4 years later. Oh well, se la vie.
I always thought Apollo on the cover of The Living Legend looked like Martin Landau...
He actually does!! Lol!
I'm reading The Tombs of Kobol right now for the first time. I've read the first two and also War of the Gods. So far they've been close to the tv episodes. I'll try and get to all of them if they're available.
Tombs of Kobol is a good one!
I've got the whole set and yes. Cylon Death Machine is the Best one! I also like the Young Warriors. It adds a lot ot the Cylon side of the story too. It makes them pretty funny.
I agree!
It's a shame they decided to adapt the G80 pilot before getting to the best original series episodes. Presumably, every book that followed was a "flashback" story. And with different authors coming and going, there were some continuity issues. But those things aside, the books were a lot of fun and definitely helped fill the void for many years after the series was cancelled.
I agree! These books and the Marvel line get the show alive for me!
I read most of these. Die Chameleon and Surrender the Galactica were two I hadn't read. Yeah, Cylon Death Machine was better than the TV show.
Incidentally, I remember reading a Galactica novel by Richard Hatch.(Apollo) It was fairly dark, with the Galactica, Pegasus and another battlestar leading the fight against the Cylons and another alien race. Can't remember the title, and I think it was part of a series.(always annoying reading the second in the series first.)
The Richard Hatch novels are a little “different” from what most fans would consider true BSG. Surrender the Galactica is one of the strangest books you will ever read!
I don't know many original BSG fans, so this seems like a good place to share an idea I always had about the show: so I personally am not a fan of Galactica 1980. But you know Glen Larson made this show and the Buck Rogers show. I always thought it would be a good idea if he made the reboot series in 1980 with the Buck Rogers props he already had and had the Galactica discovering earth in the 25th century timeframe of the Buck Rogers show! What do you guys think?
As a kid I really thought that the Galactica would find the Earth of Buck Rogers. As an adult I think it would be amazing!!! How much fun would that be!
I have the first two in a single volume.
That is a great book that is still in print!
I had quite a few of these Battlestar Galactica novels. I hope to get them all again! It's going to be something of a "Pokémon type quest", though. The books will be somewhat hard-to-find.
Say, here's a thought. Do you know if there might be KINDLE versions of these novels?
Reading copies are easy to track down (high grade books are hard to find). I don’t think there are kindle versions.
@@battlestarcollectica7106 (Plaintive wail!) Nooooo!
Are you going to cover the Richard Hatch novels? I had them, but they got to weird for me so I disposed of them
I’m not a fan of them but will do a overview someday. Thanks for the idea!
Any chance of interviewing Larsons co- authors? Are they still alive?
I’ve tried emailing them over the past decade but have never received a response. A few actually did conventions back in the late 1980s but none since then.
I have most of the novels in my collection. I am lacking the last four I think. Where can I find them?
Your best bet is used book store including Amazon and EBay. Thanks for watching!
I had up to Vol. 10
Did you enjoy reading them?
