This guy is big brain. Teach everyone to use blender, for FREE. Stuff that people would pay handsomely. And then sell amazing art to fund back into said free software. Something about that hits hard. Love it
I mean it’s not really for FREE, but I get your point. He is likely getting at least $3-5 per 1000 views on this video so this part 2 video made him over $1000 in Adsense.
I've been avoiding learning Geometry Nodes but after watching this 2 Part Tutorial, the intimidation is gone. Thanks for you help Andrew, really appreciated.
3:23 Density is just in terms of area, not volume: "The number of points to distribute per square meter on each mesh face." So a density of 173 means 173 crystals per m², or 0.0173 crystals per cm² - which isn't much on a cube with 2cm×2cm faces. (We got lucky to get any crystals at all!) The factor of 10000 Andrew typed in at 5:36 (or _1e5_ if you're lazy 😉) does exactly that conversion from m² to cm² (b/c 100 centimeters fit into a meter, and 100×100 centimeter-long squares fit into a meter-long square), so the _Sugar Density_ input ends up to be in nice units of "crystals per square centimeter." 🤓
@@blenderguru Like @Animzotic said, outside of this particular node (volumetric shader nodes, physics in general...), density is in terms of volume more often than not - so it was a good instinct. ;) I'd actually love to have a _"Distribute Points in Volume"_ node, though - r/n you can fake it by slicing the mesh with a stack of planes and an intersection boolean, but it's slow and janky.
Your tutorials are just so good Andrew. I recently got into UI design and have taken a paid course on udemy. It has nothing on you..doesnt even come close to the professionalism and excitement that you bring to all of us..and for free!! Amazing. Thank you once again!
Maybe a shorter way that avoid the Math/Multiply node is to do this before you begin the tutorial: Go to Scene Properties and set the Unit Scale to 0.01. I have this set by default because I model small things all the time. But it´s also very rewarding to see how to do it all the way around with nodes! I like the depth of your tutorials!!
For anyone reading: the drawback is that you might want to keep the scale untouched if you are working on a more complex scene or for stuff that will be imported lets say to a Game Engine. So it is an option if you are doing a single object but the way approached in the video would be a more convenient one in bigger scenes.
8:50 You don't need to do it like him where you have to punch in zeroes to get it to a really small value Just click on the dropdown next to Width Type (set at Offset by default), and select Percentage Now the bevels will be applied relative to the object's local size (applied scale)

Thank you for this incredible and complete tutorial on this complex topic of nodes, which for those of us who learned to model with the basic tools is a whole new world. Watching this video I feel like I lived in the times of the caves with 3dsmax maya etc.
Jeeeeeze what a great tutorial, Andrew. You truly are a Blender GURU. Love the way you explain everything when it comes to how and why. Best regards from Denmark❤
Thanks for the great tutorial man! Similar to the sprinkles on the donut tutorial which I recently completed (Wooo!) was great to further put those skills into practice. It would be amazing to get that '20 minute' tutorial on the materials for the sugar candy and crystals though man! Tried figuring it out myself and doing manually rather than copying but am struggling lol XD
I managed to make a V2 of this effect with a usable tick box for applying the effect to a weight painting layer and a couple of other small tweaks like adding a Poisson Multiplier. Used this to sprinkle the ground with sugar crystals. Really pulled the effect together. I am already in love with Geometry nodes.
That was so awesome! I learned again what I did with the doughnut but the transparent material is so fun! Just with that screen shot of the Node Editor I was able to create the Candy and Sugar Crystal Materials! Neat! Thank you Andrew!
This tutorial is AMAZING! I love geometry nodes but i didn't know how to use them but now i know and i can finally make some good stuff with this funcion. Thank you!
awesome stuff, was always scared to go into the geometry nodes because of the whole math thing but this really made it clear on how the nodes work! keep it up!
TIP: For anyone using Blender 4.3.0 (or possibly earlier versions), you can rename sockets by double-clicking on the socket name in the Group Sockets section of the "N" panel (found in the Geometry Nodes editor). Check out this part of the tutorial for reference: 1:20
Thanks for the tutorial! The earlier geometry nodes tutorials keep getting obsolete pretty quickly and i can't keep up. Changing the unit from Meter to Cm is one of the 1st thing i do to avoid this much math in my life. They should make cm default.
FANTASTIC!!! This was very helpful---ESPECIALLY the section on scaling down and not seeing the density retain the same amount. That was driving me crazy!
Grande trabalho! Mesmo tendo muitas dificuldades com o idioma Inglês, consegui aprender muita coisa. Você que não tem problemas com o idioma, aproveite os materiais que este grande artista disponibiliza. Obrigado!
Dude you remind me of my old math teacher in 8th grade. For years I had no clue about trigonometry. He simplified it to just being the ratio between the sides of a triangle not matter which unit you used. Hell you could even invent your own unit and it would still work. Thats when everything clicked
Thanks for the tutorial! Even more user-friendly is to divide the density parameter by the geometry's approximate scale, so that it increases as the geometry shrinks.
To make values more manageable at small scale you can also change the scene "units scale" inside the scene properties tab, in the same place, you can change from meters to centimeters. I have my scale set to 0.01
I know you are a busy person but it seems to me you're tutorials are the ones easy for me to understand and it's been long eversince you posted another geometry node tutorial and I am a beginner in geometry node and am almost giving up now and I just can't find my way through this stuff and if I would recall your donut tutorial series was very helpful and it is my hope through your geometry nodes series I might get better ....so I was just kindly begging you to atleast post on a weekly
Don't give up. Take a little break if you need to. I wish I could point you in the right direction, but I'm a beginner myself and learning all of this as I go just like you. I know this can be overwhelming, challenging, and frustrating at times, but don't forget your reason for starting this journey in the first place! Try Reddit, other tutorials, maybe even some courses. I'm sure Blender Guru will post more tutorials in the future, but he mentioned another UA-camr called Erindale so I'm going to try and see if I can follow along their Geometry Nodes tutorials in the mean time. There is a solution to whatever problem you're facing-it's just a matter of time before you find it. You could be close, don't give up. :)
Just a quick note: when you're increasing the Max Bounces for Transparency to 50, it's not necessary to increase the Total value as well. Transparency bounces are independent from the Total bounces, Total only limits the Diffuse, Glossy, Transmission and Volume bounces.
Truly an amazing perfectly well explained tutorial, Thanks a lot very much. I just starting off with the Geometry nodes for environment and level designing.

great tutorial! 11:29 tried making my own materials/colors but kept resulting in a black or grey candy. attempted for too long ended up going for the "append" direction on your blend file still getting a blackish candy, not sure how its happening but figured I'd leave this incase someone figures out why its happening and someone else has the same problem as me and gets a solution.
@@leandrosaldana6353 I actually did end up figuring out that if you click your candy head into your shading, tab the node before the "material output" look for the "volume absorption" on that node scale the density down from 354 down to 20-70 or so and go up or down depending on the look you want. hopefully that works out for you/anyone else idk if its the correct thing to adjust in this scenario it just at least made my colors visible and not all grey/blackish. the rest of the sliders seem to be fine with their attributes found in the video but I'm sure adjusting them here or there will result in a different look but start with that density slider so you can mess with the others if needed.

PROBLEM though - you mentioned that we could download blender files of the materials but they aren't listed in the descriptions.
