After having used blender to render the image of an ice cream, I have developed an unbelievable amount of respect for Disney and Sony's animated movies. Thank you BLENDER.
When she blows warm air into her hands and rubs them together to grip her staff better was stunningly fluid. I see no reason why this couldn't be on level with any major Motion Picture release.
Yeah, I loved that part too! Character detail in animation is SOO important when it comes to making them have a personality! And did you notice how, after re-adjusting her grip, she looks down to make sure she got it right? BRILLIANT! More than I've seen in major movies released in theaters, by giants like Disney.
This is a very popular comment, but I don't understand what you mean. Do you think Blender is inefficient to use? Is Cycles rendering inefficient with resources? How can efficiency be improved?
@@SvenBrettschneider I mean, like, we can delete stuff in Blender, but it's two steps, x and the choose from the menu, when x could just delete it straight away and shift+x could be for the menu or something. So like that, we need a faster workflow, especially for rigging, sculpting, hair grooming, texturing, and even grease pencil sometimes has a lot of extra steps. Like colors in grease pencil are materials, which is nice, because tweaking the material will also tweak the strokes done with it. but setting up a material is time-consuming, while in Krita or something we just choose a color from the palette and draw. We need both. material and color picker workflow.

Do they ever do a "making of..." video of these productions? I would be interested in the whole process, especially the synchronization of animation to audio.
They did make some behind the scenes for Spring. Look up, "Spring - Blender Open Movie Showreel" It doesn't show everything like audio. But it does show the character design, modeling, animation and lighting. There's also a video that's an hour long called, "Spring open movie - Production Report" It has some of the creators talk more about their progress.
It's much better for me, look at the beginning where the texture of the ground and stone around. It's so breathtaking on how much work could have been done there.
I mean it was probably sculpted not modeled. You can’t have such high details with just modeling. That’s why you usually don’t model characters at least completely. There’s always some amount of sculpting involved unless it’s a low poly character. Like you said how many extrusions can one have in a goddamn leg
I think is sculpting instead of using extruede, for that amount of details sculping will be much easier. Also, it will create better performance via scuplting then using the edit mode.
Once you decide to learn, you'll start learning. I used to be very intimidated by Blender, but just one day decided to learn. A few months later, I was making some rather nice art. I want this to be a movie. There are so many unanswered questions! This girl has clearly done this before but there are hundreds of those old quills. Was she an apprentice and her master died? What happened to her family? What are these winter creatures?
I think she's supposed to be the anthropomorphized season of spring. The creatures are the embodiment of winter. Presumably there's some summer fairy that's going to lull her to sleep with hot weather, and an autumn goblin that will sneak out of some hole and shake all the leaves down before he gets frozen by the winter creatures.
I was going to call the creatures the T-Giants. T as in Tentacle-y, Tarantula-like, Tree creatures! (There may be many other T-words that may be used to describe these creatures as well. These were a few off-the-top of my head.) Such a wonderful animation!
A friend of mine recently donated his old laptop to me, so I find that the rendering is much easier on the two laptops instead of the one. (Forgive my English, I don't speak it every day😅)
With the ending, that means the shepherd girl does it every year for spring to happen. With that many appendages suspended, she's probably immortal-- or it's been a family tradition to continue the circle of life.
Mmmm my body is ready. Watched it, loved everything but the volumetrics are especially something that resonated with me. What an awesome way to push the opensource graphics world further!

Sometimes a story can be told without words. Amazing!
When she blows warm air into her hands and rubs them together to grip her staff better was stunningly fluid. I see no reason why this couldn't be on level with any major Motion Picture release.
Same here
Lack of resources. But i think this story just fits best as a beautiful short.
Yeah, I loved that part too! Character detail in animation is SOO important when it comes to making them have a personality! And did you notice how, after re-adjusting her grip, she looks down to make sure she got it right? BRILLIANT! More than I've seen in major movies released in theaters, by giants like Disney.
wow man
@@jascrandom9855 can you elaborate on what you mean by lack of resources?
Blender now has the capacity. Now what we need is efficiency. Good job Blender devs! You are awesome!
We need both. material and color picker workflow.
thanks for your explanation @@artstallion6029! Yes you're right. There still are lots of improvements that can be made. I personally still have to try out Blender 2.8, so I don't completely know how much is fixed now. Got used to most of the quirks you mentioned, but of course that doesn't mean everything is working perfectly.
In windows or linux just press "Canc" instead of "x". You can even go in Preferences->Keymap and remove "Confirm" option to the command. Jeje we got efficiency too ;) @@artstallion6029

ive been asking the same question, i havent found any video of something like that yet. I would love to watch the whole process too!!
They did make some behind the scenes for Spring.
Look up, "Spring - Blender Open Movie Showreel"
It doesn't show everything like audio. But it does show the character design, modeling, animation and lighting.
There's also a video that's an hour long called, "Spring open movie - Production Report"

Once you decide to learn, you'll start learning. I used to be very intimidated by Blender, but just one day decided to learn. A few months later, I was making some rather nice art. Still have so much more to learn, but that process never stops for anyone. There's tons of great free tutorials right here on UA-cam, but you'll only start to learn once you decide to.
Well, today there are many good tutorials for a very low prize. If you dont learn blender is because you dont want.

This is a masterpiece of animation! The creativity and skill involved are truly impressive. The storyline is compelling, and the animation quality is top-notch. Kudos to the entire team!
This absolutely deserves to be a full length film. A serious amount of thought went into the world we're seeing.
I was going to call the creatures the T-Giants. T as in Tentacle-y, Tarantula-like, Tree creatures!
(There may be many other T-words that may be used to describe these creatures as well. These were a few off-the-top of my head.)
Such a wonderful animation!
