Spring is the story of a shepherd girl and her dog, who face ancient spirits in order to continue the cycle of life. This poetic and visually stunning short film was written and directed by Andy Goralczyk, inspired by his childhood in the mountains of Germany.
The Spring team used the development version of Blender 2.80 for the entire production, before the software was in official Beta even. As for all of Blender’s Open Movies, the entire production process and all its source files are being shared on the Blender Studio website.

Rendering IT4INNOVATIONS VSB - Technical University of Ostrava
Format: 3D animated film, 7:44 minutes. 5.1 sound. No dialogs. Fit for an audience of 6 years and older (PG). Everything you see was made with Blender, GIMP, Krita and Inkscape.
It all started with a cube in the middle
Remember, they started with the default cube too
Ok, this is awesome, but nobody is talking about the magnificent human expressions, I mean, how an inert cube can transform into the warmest human expressions on a girl's face.
Re-watching this after 2 years, and it's still gorgeous.
*Someone starts a new bender project*
Didn't knew one cube could turn into a whole dreamworks animation.
Just imagine, they could made an entire movie like this, its incredible.
I see so many people talking about the animation, but no one is talking about the story, I mean, it's so heart warming and also leaves loads of room for your own imagination.
me:
Blender is free...
Ugh. Animation is so hard. People who do this for a living deserve more credit and respect.
Oh wow, and I was so proud when I learned how to make a very pixelated tower and knock it over, lol. This is definitely blender goals!
Every time you blink you miss 5 hours of rendering.
me: That was inspiring!!!.....lets get back making donut...
To think this was made in Blender 2.8, before Geometry Nodes, blows my mind. This short film really is a work of art. But imagine what you could do in later versions. This is simply amazing.
I know everybody is praising the animation and lighting but the music and sound design is also next level.
everybody is talking about the animation, but nobody is talking about th incredible audio in the video
Heavens... How do they manage to give the models so much life? And those realistic environments and textures! The sensations of weight and impacts!
I used to criticize when I was a kid over like... Why the animation is bad or why it's not like this or that... But after learning about what goes into the animation and production... Mad respect for the creaters behind it.... And also "Spring" Is awesome.. Just love the details that is put into this and each of these projects.
