I’m a retired Jeweller and know why it has lasted so long. It was built to protect expensive jewelry and avoid entry due to weak construction. Like getting insurance against theft. The original glass was so thick to avoid easy breakage by thieves. The hooks I believe, were to hang chains and bracelets, so that they wouldn’t tangle. The worst waste of a jeweller’s time is trying to free-up a mass of tangled chain! I know! In my opinion, you saved an originally super well-built cabinet.

Most museums have little shops, would be ideal for that. Also high end stores that appeal to the traditional quality market could use to display accessories - I’m thinking like the kind of shops in Leeds Victoria quarter which are all in our historic arcades surrounded by Victorian architecture. But I love the museum idea.

You did a great job! The idea behind donating this to a charity thrift store is brilliant! They can display donated items in an elegant display cabinet, thereby helping them to keep on getting profit. Things like this are needed just like donations to help them run.
However, I would offer to install some locks for safety, and in the cabinet, to make a thin piece of wood, with maybe some thin felting, then black or navy velvet for display. The jewelry wont slide around on the wood and scratch it up. Just some thoughts.

You did it. Wow! I do believe it looks better now than it ever has. Each bit of sanding was necessary. I had to wait a few hours to watch the video & my anticipation was not disappointed. Thank you for saving this piece. It is a testament to your perseverance, experience & craftsmanship that it looks so nice now. Love the hardware.

I actually like the sanding. I love watching the real wood come to life, and i find it relaxing. You have a way of making even the worst peices look better than new. I think it would make a great display coffee table.

I remember seeing cabinets like this in some of the local shops where I grew up. They were just practical things hence the make do repairs. You did a great job bringing it back to life. I am sure there will be a “boutique” who would buy it for displaying merchandise.

It turned out wonderfully! I think you should sell it to an antiques collector, it would be ideal for small items, such as snuff boxes

I may have said this before about a previous piece, however,it applies here. You took something that was crumbling in your hands and made it into not just something functional, but attractive too.I never would have thought you could make it look so good. Bravo!
