Yes the staff at Slovenianbears were telling me about people ice skating, it is so lovely that you have such a motivating way of life. Hehe it is definitely like something from a book, very magical and beautiful! 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoriaHi ! Thanks for your reply. Yes, our move here has been quite the experience and full of adventure. Since we've been here I make a video each month which I put on UA-cam but it's only really for family and friends, so is set to Private. This morning we woke to snow everywhere which was quite the surprise. I'm just finishing off putting a short video together of our Dog (Rocco) having alot of fun with it. :)
Wonderful photos and videos of these bears! I just looked up the size of these bears, who are cousins of our North American grizzly bears. Both species are very similar in size, weighing up to 400 kilograms. These are big creatures. My wife and I flew with another couple in Alaska in 2022, to view some Alaskan brown bears (large grizzlies). The pilot was also a licensed guide. We hiked along the coast and stayed a safe distance from a mating pair of bears. Suddenly the bears were curious about us and came unexpectedly unexpectedly within 20 feet (about 6 meters of us). We followed the guides instructions and the bears left after a few minutes. This was the best travel experience of our lives. I can relate to your experience and I am so glad that you had your wonderful experience with these beautiful creatures!
Thank you so much! Yes they are similar but the bears in Slovenia are quite timid and not inherently aggressive to humans. And wow, what an incredible experience you had! That must have been so scary but so incredible at the same time, I hope you got some wonderful shots of them that close! And glad you had a wonderful time - sounded like a very good guide too! 🙂🐻
@wildandfreevictoria Thanks! The guide was a 6'7" ruggedly handsome outdoorsman who my wife couldn't help looking at. He was very experienced, and we were surprisingly not that nervous. This was a spiritual experience. We were all older adults, except for the guide. My wife mentioned several times how good-looking the guide was, which made me laugh.
Thank you Trent! Hehe well there is more stuff on the way! And it all depends on the subject/situation, for the bears I did a mixture of AF and Manual focus. Sometimes I prefer just swapping it into MF especially if I know a subject is staying in one location and then there is no issue with AF wavering. But I do also use the subject tracking, but with that I adjust the customer AF settings for the tracking sensitivity and speed of the AF 🙂
I'm truly in awe of the beauty and atmosphere of your images and videos. It's a real pleasure to discover them! Have you had the chance to test the Fujifilm X-H2 with the XF 200mm F2 lens, in photography or video?
Thank you so much for this! It’s so lovely to read! And yes, the next episode has a lot for shots and videos with the 200mm and the X-H2, so keep an eye out and i’ll include the metadata 🙂🙂
Thank you so much! And I had my camera mounted on a gimble head which worked great. But when I shoot in slow motion this tends to steady the footage as well 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoria Cool! That's so great! I have seen many other video's that use bait to bring in the bears. I'm not sure if that is the case here, but you got great images and video.
Hello! Just because I was wanting to get good filming footage first on the XH2s but in the next episode I swap camera bodies and lenses, so there is lots on the way of with the XH2 - i got some cracking shots with it! 🙂
Thank you, and I love them too! No feeding as such, they just scatter a little dried corn and that’s it. But what’s nice is, I noticed the whole time I was there that the bears were very random when they would show up and sometimes for 10 mins and sometimes 45mins. So it was really great to see that they were not habituated to the hides but just roaming randomly 🙂
Beautiful!! Love the vibe!! ❤ One question, do you shoot your photos in raw and edit them? Or jpeg with a fuji filter? Same goes for video actually... Do you film in F-log and edit the colors in post? (sorry, that were actually two questions 😅)
Thank you very much! ☺️ And that is ok, I like questions! So I shoot in RAW but with a Fuji film simulation - i don’t think (i could be wrong) there is a way to shoot in true RAW which I would actually prefer to do. So yes, in RAW with a film simulation. And then for filming I mostly shoot in f-log, the colour grade post. It was a bit tricky for this vlog as I did a mixture of f-log and normal film simulation, f-log can get a bit tricker in darker conditions but I find film simulations harder to colour grade in post. I hope that helps! 🙂
In North America there are plenty of bears in the wild but you have to go out in the wild to find them. It's much more dangerous but there are places where it's very common to photograph bears in the safety of your vehicle.
Thank you! The main b roll at the beginning and throughout, the first bears shots but not the second bear shots 🙂 and it’s high speed rec at 120p (5x slower at 24p) 🙂
Wow, beautiful videos and photos of the bears and that only with 200mm! 😍 Reminds me of the vulture hide in northern Spain, where I had 400mm and 200mm with me and the vultures jumped onto the hide and sometimes sat right in front of the window of the hut about 50cm away 😄 What price package did you book with Slovenianbears? Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you very much! I beg the vulture hide was amazing! And that sounds sooo good it was so close! Slovenian bears offer a few different prices packages, some just for one day or 3 days, I would highly recommend over 3 days because, like I experienced when I was there, the first hide I saw the bear for 5-10 mins but then the next I saw them for longer. This experience was very kindly provided by SlovenianBears 🙂
You’ll be happy to know I use the 150-600mm a lot in the next 2 episodes as the bears came out around 15:00ish - 18:00ish. And I will share the metadata if that helps too? ☺️
How do you get so close with just 200mm. I mean these bears had kids and usually they would protect them. Was it a national park where the bears are used of humans?
It is on a crop sensor so 305mm equivalent 👌🏻 and no, I was hidden away quietly in a hide so they could not see me and I would also not disrupt them ✌🏻
Many thanks for that fast answer, even in a hide with 305mm you have to be soo close that I would not have felt save. So guess your hideout was made from solid wood or something the bears could not enter even if they tried?!?
That is ok, they were till far away for a 305mm equivalent - hence no closer shots. And I did feel safe, the side is a professional set up and secure. Also the brown bears in Slovenia as very timid to humans and are not inherently aggressive. The hide is there to not disturb their natural habitat and so they don’t get used to humans. Hope this helps ✌🏻
I did take my 150-600mm as well which is use a lot in the next episode. I think with big mammals you have to be prepared and safe, last thing I would want to do is have a safety issue or harm a natural habitat. So best to be careful and prepared :)
I am very disappointed in this episode because.... Where are all the pots of honey? Everybody knows that bears eat honey because its well documented in the historically and factually correct book written in 1928 called "House at pooh corner" I hope this glaring omission will be resolved in the next episode and I will see bears stuffing their faces with lashings of honey.
I worried for a second 😅😅😂 I am very sorry, i will do my best to have bears stuffing their faces with honey in the next episode 😄 I can confirm that there was a lot of bee hives in Slovenia and they were all raised up in houses to keep the bears. So I did see bees 🐝☺️🐻
Thank you for sharing this beautiful moments with the Bears 😍 Love it!

Hello! Just because I was wanting to get good filming footage first on the XH2s but in the next episode I swap camera bodies and lenses, so there is lots on the way of with the XH2 - i got some cracking shots with it! 🙂
I love bears and the images are amazing. Does he feed them at the hide locations to attract them?
Thank you, and I love them too! No feeding as such, they just scatter a little dried corn and that’s it. But what’s nice is, I noticed the whole time I was there that the bears were very random when they would show up and sometimes for 10 mins and sometimes 45mins. So it was really great to see that they were not habituated to the hides but just roaming randomly 🙂
Beautiful!! Love the vibe!! ❤
One question, do you shoot your photos in raw and edit them? Or jpeg with a fuji filter?
Same goes for video actually... Do you film in F-log and edit the colors in post?
(sorry, that were actually two questions 😅)
Thank you very much! ☺️
And that is ok, I like questions! 🙂
Hallo und Grüße aus Osnabrück in Germany ...ich schaue dein Video gerade ....
Greetings from Scotland and thank you for watching!
In North America there are plenty of bears in the wild but you have to go out in the wild to find them. It's much more dangerous but there are places where it's very common to photograph bears in the safety of your vehicle.
Ah I can imagine! The bears over there are very different and scary! That is good you can do it somewhere safe though 🙂
Que bonitos los colores Fujifilm, pero el color de tus ojos es el mas hermoso.
Aw this is very lovely ☺️ hehe thank you for making me smile 🙂🙏🏻
@@wildandfreevictoria ☺️
Great video... So was most of the video shot at 120 fps ?
Thank you! The main b roll at the beginning and throughout, the first bears shots but not the second bear shots 🙂 and it’s high speed rec at 120p (5x slower at 24p) 🙂

🙂🐻✌🏻
Wow, beautiful videos and photos of the bears and that only with 200mm! 😍
Reminds me of the vulture hide in northern Spain, where I had 400mm and 200mm with me and the vultures jumped onto the hide and sometimes sat right in front of the window of the hut about 50cm away 😄
What price package did you book with Slovenianbears? Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you very much! I beg the vulture hide was amazing! And that sounds sooo good it was so close! Slovenian bears offer a few different prices packages, some just for one day or 3 days, I would highly recommend over 3 days because, like I experienced when I was there, the first hide I saw the bear for 5-10 mins but then the next I saw them for longer. This experience was very kindly provided by SlovenianBears 🙂
@@wildandfreevictoria Thank you so much for recommending the 3 day price package, I'll take a closer look at the website 😉
Hi, will you show how the 150-600 works in this environment? I'm planning to buy it and I would also like to visit Slovenian Bears😅
You’ll be happy to know I use the 150-600mm a lot in the next 2 episodes as the bears came out around 15:00ish - 18:00ish. And I will share the metadata if that helps too? ☺️
@@wildandfreevictoria Thank you☺
No problem! 🙂🙂
Very well prepared apparently and so a great result. Good job, great pictures.@@wildandfreevictoria
Everybody knows that bears eat honey because its well documented in the historically and factually correct book written in 1928 called "House at pooh corner"
I hope this glaring omission will be resolved in the next episode and I will see bears stuffing their faces with lashings of honey.
I worried for a second 😅😅😂
I am very sorry, i will do my best to have bears stuffing their faces with honey in the next episode 😄 I can confirm that there was a lot of bee hives in Slovenia and they were all raised up in houses to keep the bears. So I did see bees 🐝☺️🐻
