    Got a Backfire Zealot the other day (belt driven). I love the direct drives but most of the boards I've seen have them too low to the ground for my taste. In a couple years I'm sure they'll be even better as well as cheaper, so I'll ditch the Zealot around then and get a dank direct drive board (=

      @@joshdimovski4483 I ride a lot around the lake where I live. There is a lot of crap from trees ( seed pods ) and some gravel with hub I don't worry about belts breaking..
      The twin motors do get me up a fairly steep hill at home. The belt would go up bit quicker but not enough to debate.
      My board is rated at 3000 watt top speed 35 kph. I have measured at 37.
      One thing you should consider is trucks , reverse king pin are more stable at high speed. Standard kingpins carve better.
      Double kingpins very carvey but stability drops.

      @ArtimusPrime 5 років тому

      What about a skid plate? That would fix that problem. And it wouldn’t add much weight. You could even use plastic just something that keeps SOMETHING between the motor bell and asphalt or whatever you are riding on (rocks, dirt, etc)

    Ermm. When's the last time you built or bought a hub motor eboard. The esc has a big impact on performance. Enertion boards. Off the shelf boards like meepo v3 and their awd more than hold their own against the popular belt boards. Esk8 builders recently built a hub board with dated maytech hubs that went 30mph. Noise free, free wheeling, cheap and effiecent is why hubs are so popular.

    looks like the biggest advantage here is added wheel selection and full spec wheel shock absorption. A hub motor could be longer and stick out of the wheel sleeve while not compromising on ground clearance as much.

    I am sure they are really nice! :) But so are also the new 100mm Meepo hubmotors. I run two of dose on my DIY, VESC board. They are speced 540W each so 1080W total on 10S, but I run 12S and 40A to each motor that makes the board really powerful and fast (35mph) (2000W). The old Meepo ESCs outputs max 2x15A if I am correct, and the new ones outputs max 2x32A for these new hubmotors. It says 22A on the website, but the website also says it is for the dd, which needs 55 amps not 22. I was just wondering if this is important, or if it is bottlenecking the dd kit. Ive got a 35a esc which is better, but nor sure if it can support the kit either...

    I got an important question. These direct drives are from eLofty skateboards, its a fairly new chinese brand and there were some issues with their quality control ua-cam.com/video/ERYZDyoaY3k/v-deo.html
    also many people on the esk8 forum have complained about the cutomer service from their chinese contact person Kenna.
    I'm very interested in this new direct drives but worried about reliabilty, so i would like to know if you have tested the motors for some time without having any issues?? Will they ride without overheating ?(no temperature sensor)

    Thank you for this video. I kept hearing about direct drive but no one explained it. So does direct drive have good torque or more torque than belt driven boards.

    • @nathandavis1093
      @nathandavis1093 4 роки тому

      I would imagine they have the same torque as belt drive motors but without the belts

    • @Monstertweaks
      @Monstertweaks 3 роки тому

      Love your channel! It will be a bit more torque due to the loss of the belt tension

    • @MBoardsco
      @MBoardsco  3 роки тому

      Belt driven will have more torque due to the gearing ratio. Direct drives are limited to a 1:1 gearing ratio whereas belt driven set ups can adopt any gearing ratio.

      Yeah can it be used as drop in replacement from hobbywing based pre built (wowgo) esc? I heard that you need to run it sensorless. Any idea what does that mean

  • @pmacnz
    @pmacnz 4 роки тому

    You also get crap trucks you didn't want. Belt driven you choose the best of everything. Wheels, motors, trucks, bushings etc all your choice. Part replacement easy including motors. Sorry my dude but the noise of belt driven is also awesome!

    • @MBoardsco
      @MBoardsco  4 роки тому +1

      Definitely a ton of benefits to belt driven set ups! We personally really love how modular belt systems are. But we are definitely going to see more manufacturers adopt these types of motors.

  • @Pryside

    Direct drive is definitely the future but will still never be as powerfull as a direct drive. Every time you double your kv rating of the motor you are 1,4x ing your power density of the motor. Thats why gears are still very practical to producing the highest amount of power possible.

    The main problem with direct drive is ground clearance. Especially with smaller wheels

      Yes that’s definitely the biggest con to a direct drive setup.

      This particular set would be quite large for a penny board. We’d recommend a long board deck.

    With a price of 500 and up, it depletes the purpose. Direct drives are supposed to be options for people trying to save. I’d rather buy a complete set and save my self the hassles of building one when there isn’t much difference in the price.

    I look at belt driven and direct drive and I dont see a difference. Cant you just bolt down the outer portion of a belt driven motor with a custom clamp to the trucks and attach and adapter to use any wheels? I dont even get my belt driven was every created... the outer motor case spins...for what? If you just made the motors like any other electronic motor on earth the center shaft spins...end of story... I think it was a ploy to make more money by taking a step backwards and then go and introduce new more expensive motors...that are just normal motors after taking 2 steps backwards ...

    • @MBoardsco
      @MBoardsco  5 років тому

      I totally see what you’re saying. It all comes down to production cost and the cost of custom fitting motors onto custom trucks. As the Esk8 community grows more and more money will be invested into creating things for performance rather than cost.

      I would agree that they are a bit expensive. The price will come down as more and more companies begin to produce them. But I wouldn’t say overrated, they are very very nice and incredibly smooth.
