Of all the nice things that you mentioned about the Firebox Stove what I liked best was: "It's fun to use" That's what it's all about! The Firebox stove is intended to support your hobbies. If it's fun to use it becomes part of your hobby rather than a distraction from it.
There's no substitute for experience and you clearly have plenty of that working for you. I've been thoroughly enjoying your videos since I discovered you earlier today. Thanks for all your effort in putting together these nice presentations 👍👌😎

Hello again and a big thank you for sharing my videos, it was very kind. The only thing I didn't like on this video was the white mark on the stove, I hadn't cleaned it properly and only noticed in editing ha ha, it was batter from when I deep fried something. This stove is brilliant and since I first used it I realised i've not used any of my other twig stoves, seems pointless using the lixada for example, this is my journey stove so i use it off camera for quiet woodland moments. I've had some really good feedback about it, my camera broke last week so might have to wait a wee while before I fix it but the stove and I will be back😎😎. many thanks again. Chris

I've tried a Jetboil, a few gas stoves, MSR Whisperlite, solid and gel fuel stoves and twig stoves, yet I keep going back to my Trangia 27. I bought the gas conversion kit for my Trangia and I still revert to the traditional stove. As you said, great piece of kit.

Hey there, I totally get what you're saying. It's a real pleasure to use. When I was doing the video I was thinking I really need to take this out again. I love it in the hills, deals with the wind really well. I've never tried a jetboil but maybe hopefully one day. Thanks very much for watching and commenting. Cheers Chris.

As I said on a previous comment Chris, Firebox really seem to know what they are up to, the nano is one of my favourite bits of kit. So portable and well thought out like it's big brother. I loved your multi stemmed pot hanger, looked like a set of antlers!😂

Hey Trev, I must admit when i look at twig stoves now I kind of say to myself, well i have the firebox so I don't need another anymore. When I had the cheaper versions I was always looking for better, but no need now. Cheers bud, I loved the part of your last video where they had planted the trees badly at the top of that hill, a spectatular failure😂😂, it's true though, looks of consideration needed. Good stuff, cheers Chris

Such great mess kits. Used to have a few of these while I was training in the militia and were able to keep them. For some reason or another I gave them to a buddy and as far as I know they are still going strong. Great stuff! Bruce and Otis

Hiya Chris, thanks for the detailed info on the various mess kits and stoves that you use 👍 I quite like the American mess kit and the Swedish stove. Both look like great pieces of kit tbf. As for twig stoves I'd say that the Firebox and Bushcraft Essentials alternative are very similar. I can only speak about the Bushcraft Essentials LF and it's a brilliant bit of kit for a solo adventure. The steel version that I own, is a tad heavy but absolutely solid and totally avoids any fiddly construction, especially when your hands are cold. I totally recommend it. Great video and presentation as always buddy. Atb, J 👍

Thanks Jason, aye I like watching you use the bushcraft essentials stove, gives me the impression it's pretty solid. Those American army mess kits are on amazon for cheap, I think they're reproductions. Really handy though, I do like them. I like them all😅😅. Eventually I'll get the one you've got. The Swedish stove i think i got off amazon too. A bit of a long video, I know i release to much! Thanks again for checking this out, so the best and as always looking forward to your next. Cheers Chris.

One thing I noticed is that you also need something called "Cotton Gloves". I usually get the cheap chinese made cotton gloves for workers. They make it easy to hold on to hot mess kit or mess kit handles without burning your fingers. I got them for 2 pairs for US $2 , if they get dirty, you can wash them with washing powder and then hang them out to dry.

I find that the thicker aluminium pots/pans (I have some of the British, similar to what you've shown, which I also adore and have used almost exclusively when tramping - and also the Serbian/Croatian/Yugoslavian mess kit pot) are better at distributing the heat for actual cooking or for heating food (thick soups or stews, baked beans etc) but a bit slow for heating up water for a drink. I think you've hinted at it, but I think it's fair to assume that the main intent with some of those mess kits was for the serviceperson to receive food from a field kitchen - and not necessarily have to cook or heat it themselves - but then again they obviously can be used for cooking (that thin US pan looks to have been decent enough for frying). Superb video, and I appreciate your insight on the stoves.

Cheers for a great comment Phillip. I've no doubt how I use the kits differs immensely from original intention and the main purpose as you say is to receive food, they really are ingenious. I love the fact that they're all different, like personalities, and all offer a different experience. Glad to hear you have a bit of a collection too 😎😎. Cheers for that, Chris

I think you can get the American army mess tin replica from amazon for a pretty cheap price. Booming good kit. Cheers for watching this long video. Tried to keep it shorter but got carried away😅

Your last mess kit shown that you made tea in looks surprisingly like the new Mil-Tec "German" mess kit I just obtained. If yours has some numbers/letters stamped on it near the hinges, it's likely real military issue. If none, it's probably a fugazzi like mine. But it'll still serve it's purpose. You have a great collection!

  • @gregor6138

Well, every bit of kit has obviously been well used, to the point of warping in some cases so if you say the fire box is the best you have used, then that carries some weight Chris, particularly as you bought and tried all those stoves yourself. A piece and pork chop, as you say, can't get any simpler than that. Nice one , cheers.

Thanks Gregor, a long winded video to promote the firebox😂😂😂😂. have it on good authority sir, they are all good I think I like the options the firebox gives, especially with retaining the heat. Cheers for the trust😎😎

Also buy yourself some tongs, it is much easier to manipulate the pork steak with metal tongs than a cooking spatula. The metal tongs can also be used to move charcoals in your wood stoves.
