Welcome to Northern Embers. This channel embraces life and the outdoors. My aim is to inspire others to see the beauty that the outdoors has to offer and show that nature provides us with resources that we can use and enjoy. We all love food and I try to cook many different dishes using many different methods at home and out in nature. I will camp both wild and at paid campsite and I will visit many beautiful places in Scotland, looking at the plants and animals as I go on my journey.

With the firebox Stove Five Way Cast Iron there really is no better or easier way to do it, so the time has come and I thought why not do a Venison meatball Stew to go along with it! Thank you for watching and the comment, appreciate it😁
Great one Chris, looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year!
@@bencrichton2436 thanks Ben for watching the videos, probably start proper Feb onwards, though burns night is coming! Haggis time😎
@northernembersoutdoors1045 cool Chris. Sure all your subscribers and viewers appreciate the work that goes into each video!
What is it with youtube xhannels subtly advertising brands......like petromax gloves that are way over priced and you can get an much cheaper equivalent that can last just as long. Or even hand made equivalent from small local tradesmen.
@@MattAdventuresout how long did your petromax gloves last
Great cook Chris, just had my breakfast and it still made me hungry looking at that full plate at the end there. Cheers.
Heh heh, in terms of taste this was a good one, burns night soon so should do something eh. Love the haggis, to which you could have a bit for breakfast 👍😎 Happy New Year Sir
Happy New Year🎉 such a beautiful video to kick off the new year! Thanks for sharing Chris!
Happy New year Steve, thanks for watching and sharing again, the year just past has been great channel wise and that's down to the firebox and cast iron, amazing, thanks so much. I hope to get out to different locations this year rather than filming in the dark near home! Find new recipes as well to go along with the adventures. All the best for the upcoming year, and more cunning inventions coming I'm sure! Happy New year, Cheers Chris
Chicken stuffed haggis, chaggis the new New Years tradition.
Ha, excellent,a new dish for a new year! All the best to you for the upcoming year, many thanks for watching the videos, happy New year, Chris
Happy new year Chris.
Happy New year to you, all the best for the upcoming year and thanks for watching the videos, I went to bed at 8 ha ha but up nice and early!
Nice cast iron skillet. I am doubting between the FB or a normal cast iron skillet 😅
A great dilemma to have 😜, the cast iron equipment is designed around the firebox and together they are brilliant. I'm very lucky. The firebox itself has always been my favourite and as a stand alone piece of gear it's simply awesome, even making a cup of tea in the woods is a simple pleasure. Thanks for watching and happy New year, Cheers Chris
Interesting! I've never heard of haggis, let alone chicken stuffed with haggis. But it looks very tasty. I wonder if I can get it here in Germany too. I always make my roast potatoes from raw potatoes, with a nice golden brown crust. Thank you for this rustic video, thumbs up!
Happy New year, thanks for watching the videos, always love your comments, especially about the ferns! It always makes me laugh. Haggis is a Scottish dish, I'm not too sure about being available elsewhere, although what I cooked in this video isn't true haggis in a sense of what it's like traditionally, which is cooked in a sheep's stomach. Sounds weird I know, soon it's burns night, burns is a Scottish poet that people here celebrate and they have burns night, and traditionally eat haggis, so this year I'll try and do the proper haggis and you'll see what I mean. All the best for the upcoming year and I hope you have much success with your cooking creations😁
Nice one
Happy New year😜
You make great use of space on them shallow 5-ways👍 I was always knocking foods and greases off the sides and went back to my 6"/15cm round cast iron when Fireboxing. I have yet to explore the potential of the shallow 5-ways, though. If there was a slightly larger shallow 5-way with sidewalls also slightly higher, that would great for my messy cooking, lol!
Heh heh, I am guilty of overloading my pans when I cook, always trying to put that extra in, the occasional item goes over the side but overall I love cooking with them, it's the versatility, the amount of different things I can cook is great, yet to do a pudding. Thanks again, all the best, Chris
Wishing you a peaceful Christmas season and a Blessed and prosperous New Year 2025 to you and yours, my friend 🙏🕊✨️ I'm happy to have found your channel through Firebox Stoves' recommendation of your videos 🔥
Thank you very much for the kind words, I hope your Christmas period was relaxing and a happy New year to you, thank you very much for watching the videos and all the best for the upcoming year ahead, Cheers Chris
Fancy meal, you made it look easy. Happy New Year, or Hogmanay! Looking forward to more content next year. Try some veggie meals.😀
Thank you, if only I had fancy meals when I was at home😅... I'm going to try harder this year to grow the channel, it doubled in size last year, something to work off, will deffo do veggie meals, needs to eat healthier! ❤️
Just got my freestyle and dutchie in Oz. Gave a beef stew a crack, but that chicken stuffed with haggis looks good. Next cook up I expect
Greetings to you down under 😁 delighted to hear you have this same cooking system, it's so much fun, beef stew sounds amazing, great idea, all the best, thanks for watching and happy New year, Cheers Chris
Hope you had a good Christmas and wishing Northern Embers a happy new year. Just got round to watching, been with the family for a few days. Bacon and eggs is the perfect combination.❤
Hi Ben, Merry Christmas and thanks very much, for me bacon and eggs is the best😎😎, it's always good to get away, did you get away anywhere nice?
@northernembersoutdoors1045 nothing exciting Chris, down at the inlaws in Newburgh, Fife. All been affected by the cold/flu during December so be glad to get back to normality in the new year!
@bencrichton2436 Awesome Ben, newburgh is one of my favourite places, there's a nice bakery there and I like to walk along the Tay, a mixed bag of houses but it has character. The steak pies from the bakery are tasty😁. Happy New year.
Yeah it's a nice wee place and a stark contrast from Aberdeen where we live. One love to move one day to a smaller town and Newburgh and the surrounding areas tick that box. We are there a few times a year to see the family.
Looks a lot like NZ Chris. Merry Christmas mate. Stay warm over there
Merry Christmas mate and a happy new year too, that location isn't too far from me and it's absolutely lovey, if I could just add a few Tui Birds there it would be perfect! All the best for the new year mate, I have a one Tigress evil eyes twig stove used a couple of times that I wont use again, it's titanium so quite light, do you still have the same po box that you sent me via email that time?
@@northernembersoutdoors1045 Hi Chris. I just got home today and saw your message. I sure do have the same address bro. I have heard of One Tigress, they have some great ideas and kit. That stove sounds awesome Chris. Thanks very much.
@southernlandsolo7839 hi mate, good to hear. Today is Monday and I'm off to Edinburgh for 1 week. Back next week so I'll be looking to post it then, not sure how long these things take these days with the post! It's a great wee twig stove, light too, I just just use the firebox all the time. Happy New year, hopefully this is the year where Southern land solo comes back😁👍😎. Back to jumping fences where there's gaps nearby😅

Gladly another great video of you with damn simple cooking. I love it and the beautiful scenery too. A wonder how the little bottle disapears at 3:32, you're a wizard!
Thank you very much, your powers of observation are second to none. well spotted with the bottle, I must practice that trick more! Beautiful location, a nice place to have a swim as well, all the best and thanks as always, cheers Chris

Merry Christmas, just having a break, haven't been on tube much for ages, have a good day😊😊
Great video! Whats your process and how long does it take to pack down and take away your ahs after cooking? How long does the firebox gen2 take to cool down? Thanks mate.
You got a very nice set up. Going to try this with the pathfinder fry pan with the rack.
Thinking about you out there, my Firebox friend. Wishing you and yours a Blessed and Merry Christmas 🙏💌🕊💟
Thank you very much, nice to hear from you and wishing you a very Merry Christmas, hope that you have a lovely day, many thanks, Chris. P.S Will get the firebox out soon!
Great video with the cooking
Wow, I love this idea, I’m a firebox aficionado, have 3 of them and never thought of doing this. Thanks! I subscribed, nice useful videos you have.
Nice review! I just bought one for some winter fun. Storm kettles are so efficient that I thought this would be a wonderful addition to my emergency, (sometimes just fun) kit.❤

very cool guy. hope my newly bought stove will be as good as described one in this vid.
What temp did you set the oven?
Ich meine man sollte solche Laternen zur Sicherheit besitzen. Wer weiß was heutzutage alles passieren kann. (Krieg Naturkatastrophe usw) Habe selbst 3 Feuerhand-Laternen im Haus
Handy wee stove Chris, good experiment there with the fuels. I like the way the mess kit fits together too. Cheers man.
Nice one Chris. The tarp makes all the difference to a cook in the rain like that, you can sit and enjoy the surroundings. Cheers.
Good fix! Feuerhand lanterns are the best, and there's quite the aftermarket demand for them, so you should have no problems getting your money back if you ever sell it. I just happened across a Feuerhand 280, the largest model they ever made, and it's now on the way to me. I'm stoked, for sure, since I got it at a great price. The only question now is whether or not I'll have to sink any big money into making it functional. I figure that the price was low enough, and the demand for them high enough, that I can afford to replace the burner assembly and seal the fuel tank... and still come out well ahead on things. I won't be selling it any time soon, of course, but it's nice to run into a real bargain when it comes to these fine lanterns! Now you have to get a Chalwyn lantern and bring it back to life!
Nice tarp set and location…have fun stay safe.
Great job enjoy you cooking on it thanks
Love your calm and casual what you see is what you get meal ideas! I usual go with the 100gm gas canisters, but watching this with my 9yr old son now he wants a alcohol burner and the Swedish mess tin ;) You just won another subscriber. Well done chief.
Hi ya. Alwaysgood to see you doing what you love... my boy isaac wannts to go to Scotland and see you at some time fornsome wilderness experience. Drop me a.message soni can pass you his details
Look's like a nice and tasty way to spend an afternoon.
I always thought it was best to heat up the oil first, before putting food in? Otherwise, the oil just seeps into the food making it even more unhealthy.
