They embraced it because they got good opportunities in India to move back where they could maintain their standard of living which made the transition less difficult. The space is huge especially by Mumbai standards. As someone who has grown up in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai feels like moving to a different city. Folks coming from outside don't have such hangups which is good as they get a better deal.

10 yrs down the line Ulwe will be at par with Vashi/Chembur in terms of rates per sqft.. MTHL, NMIA, Ulwe Coastal Road, Jetty at Nerul, Belapur nearby, NH 348 and Virar Alibaug MMC, proposed Aerocity near Wahal-Ulwe, International Corporate Park Kharghar, Nerul Uran suburban train completion, Reliance SEZ at Dronagiri JNPT, CSMIA-NMIA metro, Bullet train station for Mumbai-Hyderabad route at NMIA, connectivity with Nagpur Samruddhi, Mum-Pune eway and Kokan Coastal Eway through JNPT spur of Delhi Mumbai Expressway.. So considering all of this Ulwe might be on the par with not even Dadar but around Parel given that Other IT parks move over to Ulwe

I moved to New York from Parel last year. When you lease an apartment in NYC the amenities are like heat and hot water😂Some extremely lucky people have dryer/washer in house. I completely see someone moving from NYC to Mumbai, Mumbai has all the facilities and an arguably better lifestyle for the same budget. However I don't think it would be easy for someone to move to a satellite town like Ulwe after having lived in a major city

by far the most intelligent people Ive come across. Does not believe in amenities becs they are overrated. Damn right. Amenities and the maintenance you pay every month for amenities is a complete waste of money. id rather go to a gym or a swimming pool and pay as I use rather than stay committed to pay and not use. A club membership turns out to be far more cheaper and far more useful.
Not to buy a house is another smart thing he is doing. when investment in stocks and mutual funds give minimum 12 % returns why invest in property ? Id rather buy open pieces of land in a progressive 2 tier 3 tier small town than buy a house in Mumbai. it is irrationally expensive and the quality of construction is pathetic since last 10-15 years with the flimsy concrete blocks !! this couple is very very practical and thats how it should be. I am impressed.

Brilliant episode, would love to watch more such episodes of returnees to India. Returning to India must be normalized and not gawked at. Many people living in India think that living in Europe/US/Canada/UK is paradise - it couldn't be further away from the truth. Sure, these countries offer better standard of living but what not many immigrants talk about is the difficulties in saving money (especially in today's times), finding a well-paying job that considers your prev work experience/education, subtle racism in workplace, homesickness, lack of immediate healthcare, domestic help, the threat of homeless people attacking you/getting mugged/shot (yes this is very common in US/Canada). Uprooting your life completely and moving overseas for good was considered cool many years ago, but in 2023 I don't think it holds so much value. For a couple of years working overseas is good but not permanently...India has a lot to offer

People who are poor and living in Mumbai praising that Mumbai is the best, I just can't. The propaganda that Amchi Mumbai is for all is an illusion. Its a good city no doubt if you have some money but its hell if you are surviving paychecks to paychecks

even for ppl with money (say 5Cr+ rs), they still have to see slums, nalas, rash driving, bad roads everyday. Newer apartments dont have balconies because MVA decided to include that in FSI.
They can easily move to tier 2 cities, buy a spacious 2000 sqft+ modern apartment with pool, gym, security, gardens, etc and live a amazing life.

Check the amount of taxes one pay abroad plus being treated as 2nd class citizen . Just go t California and see homeless beggars on street in the roads . Not everything is dream life as shown in movies ..
Also check the cost for basic services one has to pa like maids etc
India definitely has to improve but one is definitely safe here .

With commission agents like IT services companies (Wipro, Infosys etc) it is extremely hard to save any money from peanuts salary after paying hefty taxes. I bill my client 100 dollars an hour in USA and I get 80 dollars for myself. My H1B agent gets 20 dollars commission. Biggest regret I will have is not being there for aging parents. But I went bankrupt working in India for pathetic salaries.

I think the couple is very careful and thoughtful of their decisions, they've literally considered every bit of the past present and future, so organized, I think they've made a wise choice to come back to their routes and also weirdly so, but I liked their thought of not being home owners at this stage of life. It is unusual but so practical and so true. very good couple, what a great space and they've made it into such a good HOME. all the best to this family for a great future.
