Bro just what the fuck has men's xc-skiing become?😭 All gold medals and other medals but 2(!) bronzes in the world championships went to Norway. Today the complete top 10 is Norwegian. This sport is dead on the men's side. FIS seriously need to do something. Either implementing a budget cap to cut down on the Norwegian team's massive resources, or help the other teams and nations to atleast come somewhere close to having the same resources and therefore the same opportunities.
But perhaps that isn't even the problem. I seriously have no idea what they should do, or why and how the Norwegians can be so terribly dominant. We saw a few years ago on the junior side that many countries were up and coming, but compared to their Scandinavian opponents at the same age they are not on the same level when competing on senior level. Why is that? Or do they just need some more time? I seriously don't know, but I really, really hope men's xc-skiing can find its way out of this...

That's one thing that happens when the Russians aren't there, especially on the men's side. There's little to no competition anymore.

Difficult to know what to do about that, make them less good in their national sport? Interesting view that we usually don’t see in other sports where it’s almost shameful to be great when the opponents don’t measure up.

@@djordjenikolic9059 Northug is not active anymore, Klaebo is weaker than Simen in 50 km, skiathlon and freestyle individual.
@@djordjenikolic9059 UPD: I think Krueger and Klaebo are equal in general, but there is only one long race at the World Cup so Krueger can't prove himself to the fullest.

@@toddhoward3389 How bout this, Klaebo has a decent possibility on any given day to beat Krueger in a 15k, and remote possibility in a 50k. Hell would have to freeze over for Krueger to beat Klaebo in a sprint.

The Norwegian dominance is killing a sport that's already dying. FIS needs to implement a universal ski standard for their races so that every athlete has equal skis. Norway is dominant not only due to interest and training, but also because we have a wealth of expertise and funding in this area that generally puts us ahead from the get go.
