Hard agree on “the brands don’t expect every product/formula to be that great, but it’ll move.” Except it definitely isn’t just a drugstore phenomenon. It’s at least 70% of Sephora stock. It’s Charlotte, it’s Too Faced, it’s Pat (lol IT’S PAT! a sad moment in our collective history on a gender-consciousness level, but still). It’s basically a corporate requirement. And all the underwhelming Chanel quads out there … Doris is probably still gonna buy it because her personal shopper at Bergie’s has a standing order!
I know you’re not feeling great, but just wanted to say I love that you’re being your awesome, wacky self. Also I’m learning watercolor and it’s maddening.

These are all my feelings about the NYX Ultimate Utopia palette. There are some insanely interesting shades and it’s just fun to play with. Even the “pressed glitters” in it don’t fall all over my face. So great.
I loved that palette, except it was physically too big to work in my life! So eventually I tried to depot it using the oven method. It didn’t go well. Tragique

About your comment saying only 5% of drugstore makeup is remarkable. This is why I LOVE drugstore makeup reviews! I can weed out all that crappy drugstore stuff, and buy really great things! I have bought some really really awesome drugstore makeup recently, because I’ve watched so much great drugstore content. It really helps so much! 🙏🏼
There was a time when Pixi seemed like it was putting itself out there as an over-35 friendly brand that didn’t feel frumpy. They have the Glow Tonic and some relatively cheap okay-ish retinols, and their undereye corrector is genuinely good. Their lighter bronzer has a rosy, plummy tone. They have an okay gel tint blush. I admit to having a soft spot for the brand because occasionally they come up with something neat but then they can’t seem to figure out how to market it.
In general, there can be a lot of pressure to not be appropriately critical of a product if it’s affordable. I get why, but it leads to weird situations where people were blowing hundreds of dollars trying to find a good cheap liquid lipstick, and they were young or chronically online enough to have never tried MAC…a regular matte MAC bullet lipstick has all the lasting power of a cheapo liquid lipstick, and with a better texture. And no one ever put 2 and 2 together there because MAC wasn’t considering cool at that time.
I love the Pixi silky eye pencils and I used to love their bb cream but I think they discontinued it and i feel like i'm the only person in the world who tried it haha
@@user-fy4uv9wb7o I actually finished up their bronzer back in the day and I think I still have a highlighter and gel blush in a drawer somewhere. They have a decent drugstore iteration of a cleansing balm too. I think something about them just never caught on it the US?
I don’t have a fear of wet paper, but I have a fear of damp things not drying. Like when my bf stacks dishes in the cabinet that are still wet from the dishwasher and I just know it’s not drying in there and I feel it in my spine 😱

Kackie I honestly just love how real you are both in terms of your makeup opinions and your overall demeanor in videos, it's definitely one of the reasons you're one of my top favorite creators. I would rather watch content from and support someone who is so unapologetically themself no matter the vibes of the metaphorical room, and I love that you have a solid definition in your head of what quality means to you and that you stick to it despite the naysayers. You just put together some puzzle pieces for me re: art supplies vs makeup... because watercolor is hands down my favorite media. Ballpoint pen, inks, watercolor. My art style is rather decisive, fast, final. I've tried but have no patience for, say, charcoal or oils. And that totally translates to the way I do my makeup haha! Eye primer that grabs pigment like glue, then highest possible pigment eyeshadows, blushes, liquid liners. My daily full beat takes 20 minutes or less. I love both makeup and making art, but that's such a funny observation.
Also agreed on that eyeshadow quality wheel. My mother worked at a department store, and I had access to all sorts of bougie testers. There wasn't much difference between the Chanel quads vs. the Wet N Wild eyeshadows I could afford as a teen.
Oh no! But according to Tati’s video yesterday, any palette under $50 must have toxic chemicals in it that are “off gassing” and are going to kill us! 😂

I just bought the palette, and I love it! I depotted it, and I love how most of the shimmers are easy one and done on my light skin tone. Some have a little glitter in them, and some of those shades have fallout, but not all. I have high end and luxury eyeshadows, but this palette has a grip on me right now. The shimmers don’t make my 42 year old eyelids look old (Lorac shimmers don’t work for me).

I agree with your thoughts on drugstore makeup. I’ve found that I can easily and happily buy items I am not picky about like mascara, brow products, eyeliner but I absolutely am never happy with my pickier products like concealer.

I also feel like the magic partly comes from Make-up reviewers because they are the ones that give us the first interaction with a product and from the way that we store and present the Make-up we use every day. We can totally make drugstore things seem precious to us if we treat them that way…

I had the Makeup Revolution x Emily Noel palette (yes the one that caused the kerfuffle with Tati) and it was so ridiculously good for the money. I ended up giving it to a friend because it was just so physically big and heavy that I never used it. But yeah MR's eyeshadow can be really good for the money...Speaking of Emily Noel, her sister is Kelly Eddington, a watercolor artist who has a youtube channel and a watercolor class which I took in 2020. I really loved it. Watercolor techniques are hard to learn but I'm not a trained artist with a preference in media so I get why people don't like it. To me, I think it's amazing that such a simple thing can make such amazing marks on the paper that no other media can really do. There is something kind of magical about it. It's all about layering and patience...kinda like makeup really.

I have that palette! And i love it! - because at the time (like 3 years ago), i was trying to get deeper rose colors that werent just light pink and rose-gold shimmers that werent just frosty icy pink and this actually delivered. You just never know . Would love to see more of your dumb basic eye looks with it🧡👍🧡👍

Hey Kackie! Just wanted to say I bought this palette two weeks ago because i thought it was so unique and beautiful when you showed it and i can't stop using it either! Would love to see another look with it on camera.
I’m here for discovering some lower cost eyeshadow palettes! I got all of the Revlon so fierce prismatic palettes after hearing Amanda Z review the “ slight flex/vantardise” color way. I also really like the “clap back/riposte” palette, which has an amethyst shade so much more beautiful than the LE similar shade. Not all of the colors are great but these palettes have been a great find.
I think “comfort food” makeup is great. Things that are easy to apply, wear well and help you look and feel great for a reasonable price. 💜
Watercolor is my preferred artistic medium and you really have to completely change your mindset about fixing mistakes, you also have to be so patient and go so slow. It's intense. But the color theory of it all is so much easier to work with because everything is so easy to sheer out.
for many years i wore only Mac eyeshadows and the occassional few by Origins (miss those so much). then i got super into the clean thing (the essence of which i still care about- now it's just all been so clean-washed) and got into Honeybee Gardens and Aveda. still like both of those, except now Aveda seems to have done away with most of their makeup. ugh.
and then during the pandemic, when the only exciting thing to look forward to was going to the grocery store once a week, i started trying some drugstore items (which just happen to be cheaper than at the actual drugstore). well, lo and behold, i discovered how amazing the Maybelline eyeshadow quads are. they used to be like $5, they're probably more now, but holy crap. the colors! the variety of finishes! and you know what, i kinda don't mind using that flimsy little sponge applicator, either, to lay down some of the shinier colors.

I totally resonate with your chaotic energy. Also I think that this is the only eyeshadow I've ever liked from any of Makeup Revolution brand. They are some incredibly hit and miss and I simply refuse to waste my money with them. Also some of their business practices give me the serious icks.

@@agresticumbra I have teenage twins, and my daughter has depression as well. I always tell her that we do the best we can with whatever psychological and emotional energy we’ve got available. Some days that might only involve eating a yogurt and not crying, and you’re right, that’s enough.

Kackie I found that same palette at Marshall’s fell in love had not tried revolutions formula before. Bought a couple more at one of my Walgreens. It seems this big one is the best. I have started to realize that most things if you know your stuff u can find just as good at the drugstore. I’m only buying reveltionary make up from now on.

I have seen that currently people are just crazy about “Drugstores” makeup. It could be economical reasons, but I think is because people are realizing that you can get great products for less money; also drugstore products are more experimental and fun. Currently right now if you go to wall mart or target you’ll see how empty the makeup shelves are. People are truly just buying makeup like crazy.

shout out to revolution they were incredibly hit and miss but they were my first foray into makeup and most of dmy stuff used to be from them, super accessible in the UK
OMG I'm wondering if that Rituals Serum could be a near dupe for the old Becca First Light primer??? I loved that stuff and have not been able to find anything close enough.
I am intrigued by the Mr blushes, don’t care that it duped Jones Road because of all the neg reviews Jones Road received so BB is not getting my money. Even as a melanated person I like low pigment blushes as long as they build and don’t lift on themselves ( I returned the Rare beauty liquid blushes because the pigment was too much😛) would love to know if they do build well.
It builds but only to a point. It's really balmy. But I do think it's got about twice as much pigment as the Jones road which is to say, still not a lot lol

I totally think you're on to something with the drugstore theory. In the new year, I actually made a semi-resolution to myself that I would buy less drugstore. I tend to buy a bunch of it to catch a vibe or a feeling, and it just hovers over that feeling and never fully satisfies it. Sometimes it does, but not always or even consistently. So I figured I'll save money by getting a higher end product I know will work more often than drugstore, and just getting the one thing I want instead.

Every single thing I have bought from Pacifica - toner, makeup remover, lip gloss, lip balm have been Awful. I have closed the door on Pacifica and thrown away the key.
Don’t like watercolour ? What? Kackieeeee! 😛 it’s a nightmare I agree between the blooming and hideous bleeds I achieve when doing a Wet on Wet. I bought loose Arches paper for the best results but am too scared to use it and ‘ruin’ it.
But between oils and acrylics it needs the least amount of babysitting. Water…and go (have learnt to love the blooms too)

There's some pixi skin care that I can get on board with, but I've never used a makeup item that's impressed me.
